I am – Hercules!!

Rob Thomas, creator of “Veronica Mars,” has just gotten the green light to shoot his third pilot script of the coming season.

It’s an ABC remake of a New Zealand series titled “Outrageous Fortune,” about a mother who tries to make her family of criminals go straight.

Thomas’ other pilot efforts for the coming season include a remake of his ‘90s comedy hourlong “Cupid” for ABC and a sequel to “Beverly Hills 90210” for The CW.

    Pissed off...

    by danielkurland

Yes, I'm glad to see him getting work, but spreading himself thin over three lesser shows is not going to help him any. He's turning into a Josh Schwartz, which isn't a good thing. Go back to VM.

Honest was much later and a flop.

    by elab49

And even though it was effectively a remake was never once in any of the promos linked to the Aussie series even though the writers penned the first epi.

    The "spray-and-pray" approach to TV

    by mullah omar

I guess the theory is that you make a load of pilots and hope that at least ONE of these shows is going to make it. Except usually I don't recall one guy making so many pilots at the same time. If they all get picked up, I guess he'll have to give away 1-2 of them or else invest in speed.

Dosen't this mean he's spreading himself thin?

    by yeti

Or is he just getting these shows started then leaving them with other showrunners if successful?

    by fishpillow

So let me get this straight? He has multiple failed shows and suck movies so he gets rewarded with 3 pilots?!? Man, I gotta move to Hollywood....

    which will win?

    by imascooby1985

I am hoping that the Cupid pilot is the only one to get picked up to that Rob can just focus on making one great show instead of three mediocre ones. But knowing Hollywood, the 90210 spin-off will be the one to succeed and Rob will stay with it for a season then leave to make another show that will probably just be cancelled in a year and then people will start back up about him doing a VM movie. Mark my words. ps... this is coming from a huge VM fan.

Cupid, Veronica, Dawson's Creek, and The Riches

    by karuma

Two of those were very engaging and well done. The other, Dawson's, overblown and ham fisted so I don't know what to think about the latest news. However, it couldn't be a worse that quarterlife....could it? Sounds like a network version of The Riches.

    Holy shit

    by charlie murphy

likes me some Rob Thomas, but this is pushing it. can you imagine if even two of these shows get picked up? he'll be stretched too thin and his input will be pretty minimal on each show. excited, but still... three fuckin shows?

I speak only for my own predilections. If you liked the show, applause to you for being able find beauty and grace in something I could not. You are among many who enjoyed it, however I found it just to be another in a long line of attempts by writers to pull in the teen angst audience and generate enough viewers to make the sponsors happy and give the writers another day of employment, in which it was very successful in doing.

    Good. Outrageous Fortune sucks.

    by crayon

The show doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or a drama tackling serious issues and awkwardly tries to mix the two with poor results. So a remake can only be for the best I'd say.

In terms of acting chops. NBC, do whatever the fcuk it takes to get her on board as a regular for season 3 of Heroes. They need her more than she needs them.
