There's A New DAY OF THE DEAD Remake Poster Online...

Published at:  Mar 25, 2008 8:49:18 AM CDT

Merrick here...

The poster for the remake of George Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD is online over at impwards.

If you've seen the film's trailer (you can find the trailer HERE), you probably feel like this project is cool only by virtue of Ving Rhames. From where I'm sitting, that's a pretty fair assessment.

...to see the poster for this remake, which is directed by Steve Miner (HALLOWEEN H20, LAKE PLACID, and FRIDAY THE 13th Parts 2 and 3). I believe this title is straight to DVD.

    Straight to DVD

    by plasmaorb

Just saw the jacket cover on Digital Bits, its coming to DVD in a few weeks I think.
I will rent it to see it and make my own judgement of it. Some people are really picky about remakes, especially of Romero, which to me is a overated hack. His movies werent scarey at all, they were almost pitiful looking, plus his movies never have any consistency to them, even thought they are all supposed to be this one big zombie universe.. one minute they are slow and blue and the next they are fast and then they are slow. Sorry, just think George is a bit over hyped.

has anyone seen the remake of Brian DePalma's Sisters? It hit direct to DVD a couple of weeks ago, and at least has an interesting cast ( Stephen Rea, Chloe Sevigny ). I saw the original in the theater on its first run, fucked me up good, and made me a Brian DePalma fan for life. GREAT Herrmann score.

I remember seeing the trailer for this like a year ago at least. Also I feel like PlasmaOrb you are mixing up your zombie movies. Romeo didn't direct every zombie movie ever. Just Night/Dawn/Day/Land. And in all those the zombies are slow, just in Land they kind of communicate with each other. Granted I am not the biggest fan of his either, i just feel like you are attaching his name to everything, he didn't direct the re-makes. Plus you have to understand that when Night came out, you probably weren't even swimming around in your fathers nut sac yet.

I downloaded this movie off of a torrent site not so long ago. Me and my wife laughed throughout, it was pure comedy gold. It was so bad, it was fun to watch. It should have been called Return of the Living Dead 4, though. As it is, the title pisses all over Romero's classic and that, people, is no laughing matter.

    by wickedjacob

Actually, DAY is begging for a good remake. Its got some of the most innovative ideas but unfortunately fails in its execution. Even Romero has said he didn't have the resources to do it like he really wanted. In a lot of ways, CITY was a remake and extension of a lot of DAY's ideas, but I think of all of Romero's movies, DAY is the one that has always needed a good remake -- though I'd love to see Romero remake it himself.

you have to give absolute respect to those opening scenes of the deserted trashed streets, with money and newspapers blowing around, and the zombies coming out of 'slumber' and then rising to the moaning, shuffling mob.
for that scene alone, we need a big budget, quality remake.

    by tk 421

I agree that Day isn't my favorite Romero film, but I can't say that I've ever watched it and felt that it screamed for a remake. I feel that the film stands on its own quite well and I don't need to see it remade with a bigger budget. I'd rather see new films rather than constant remakes. World War Z would be nice.

What exactly are you talking about? 'Consistency'? In all of Romero's movies the zombie were slow moving. In 28 Days & Weeks Later and the DOTD remake, the zombies were fast moving. And G.A.R did way better than you ever could with a miniscule budget and limited resources. By todays standards, of course the films have dated and do not have the impact they once did - but if you were around when these fims were made, maybe you'd think differently. I know you're entitled to your opinion, and if you don't dig the films, fair enough. But calling a legendary filmmaker like Romero a hack is just bullshit. What has been your contribution to cinema? by elbox

I'm a huge fan of zombie movies so I found this movie on the interweb and watched it a few weeks ago. Let me just say that this movie is terrible. The acting is so bad that it's funny.
Nick Cannon becomes a bow wielding super zombie killer half way throught the film and Mina Suvari does the worst job acting like a soldier since... well, probably the first Day of the Dead came out.
However, this movie has very interesting zombies in it. They are fast. They set up traps. They ambush people. They kick ass but they're wasted in this movie.
If you're a die hard zombie fan and can put up with terrible acting a piss poor plot then this is probably worth renting but otherwise, stay away from it.

The original was just too silly. Yes, even for a zombie movie. The soldiers were bumbling idiots and the scientists experimenting on the zombies acted just like that alien doctor Phlox from the Enterprise show. I would have liked to have seen a really scary ass scientist with a real zombie chamber of horrors. The gore was pretty good though.

    Brians

    by kolchak

I concur. Humans have always been fascinated with death. And I think part of our infatuation with them (as well as vampyres and such) is because a part of everyone wants to escape death. And that's what zombies do.

    vegetarian zombie, holy shit

    by i dunno

I've blackouted drunk a lot in my day but I'm pretty sure that I have a perfect record of non-human flesh eating and I'm sure (I hope) I would chow down on the living with the best of them. What a stupid plot point.

    by some farts really stink.

It blows and has been on p2p forever. I'd like to have Tyler Bates' score though. It's awesome as usual.

there is something totally wrong with this one sheet

    by windowlicker74

The line of blood dropping from his tooth suggests that the zombie is totally motionless for at least seconds or even minutes but other drops are exploding all around him in a wild frenzy... ?? just weird to look at.

    save yourselves while you can

    by robertrageson

i have seen this movie. i can hear your sighs of remorse already. dont go see it, dont rent it, if a friend talks about seeing it punch them in the face and then run away. i hate to say it like this, but nic cannon was purely a negro. the way he talked walked acted was like any hiphip rapper would do in a music video. mena suvari...i dont know how they picked her to lead this movie, but she needs to keep her hat on to hide that huge forehead of hers. "bud" the vegan zombie...words cant describe. ving plays no relation to his previous character in the series and the only thing he adds to the movie is him eating his own eyeball. save yourselves from this one at all costs. you're better off watching In the name of the king:a dungeon seige tale

with a dildo made of rebar. World War Z was interesting (especially the soldier story) and is being made as we speak (I think by Brad Pitt's production company). Zombie's don't run. I like Romero, but Diary Of The Dead was not great.

Diary of the Dead IS great

    by tk 421

Sorry, I can't agree with any hate for the film. It had classic Romero zombies, great gore, cool zombie/human kills, the awesome Amish guy with dynamite and a scyth, the militant black dudes, the professor with the bow & arrow and TITS. All around, the movie was fucking great.

Diary wasn't half as bad as people say

    by kolchak

It was a great entry in the franchise. Only Romero could put a fresh spin on a tired genre like that. Fuck CLoverfield. Diary is going on my shelf the day it's released.

    by soup74

okay, i would love to believe that the 'message' of this film got blatantly pounded into the viewers head, because the whole concept was that it was a student film, and thats how a real student film would be, but i just dont know if i can give george that much credit lately.

So it was a bit preachy

    by kolchak

It's only because Romero understands modern audiences are stupid fucks who need things to be laid out clearly for them. It doesn't undermine the rest of the film, which was done well.

    george's messages

    by soup74

i think he meant to have a message in night. then just figured a mall would be a cool setting for dawn. when everyone said it was all about consumerism, it went to his head. then he tried too hard to force social commentary in day, land, and diary.

    veggie zombie

    by hellnback

thanx to torrents i've already seen this ok movie. first of all it's nothing like the original which is great cuz nothing can compare to it. this movie should have been given a different name. i didn't even recognize rhames. he plays rhodes who you'll remember gets torn apart by zombies in the original. rhodes was an ass in the original. in this one he's hardly even a character. just some military guy who is just doing his job and he isn't an ass. bub is in this movie is just some soldier guy in love with mena suvari. he gets bitten and then turns into a zombie, only he won't eat flesh cuz he was a vegeterian in life. stupid stupid stupid. there's nothing in this movie that even makes you remember something from the original. just watch it as if it was a completely different zombie movie with a different title. alot of the movie takes place in a hospital, part of a radio station and then some underground lab.

    If anything

    by kolchak

Night was the film that didn't originally have a message. Everyone involved just wanted to make a scary movie. Then people noticed the commentary and he thought a play on consumerism would work. LAND was really the only film with hardcore commentary written into the script. It basically screamed "Hey! Look! We're actually talking about Iraq!"

    Diary Of The Dead...

    by 23greatwoundsallgotinbattle

I liked the elements mentioned. The deaf Amish guy was hilarious, the opening scene with the news footage was gold, but it just didn't hold up. The cliched drunk British professor was laughable, and whereas in Cloverfield I never once questioned the believability of the guy doing the camera work, every ten minutes or so of Diary I was like "why is this guy still filming this?" It was alright, but it was not great.

    by brians life

The only book I've read straight through. That's not a sarcastic knock either. It was so damn compelling. Took me like 20 hours. I was terrified, but I couldn't stop. That Max Brooks is a genius, must be in the blood. Fans of the book, I'd say check out the audio version too. It's abridged, but still lengthy and read by a GREAT cast (Alan Alda, Mark Hamill, Henry Rollings, Carl Reiner, etc)...DO IT!

    by sir nigel lengthington-smythe

No, no, no no no no no!!!!!! Why the FUCK are you giving this crap the fucking oxygen of publicity? I have seen many bad films in my life, and watch them for comedy value mostly, but this is a fucking insult, and rates, bar none, as THE WORST FUCKING FILM EVER! I'm not even going to bother ranting on about it, except to say that i saw it about 2 months ago, and was absolutely disgusted at how shite it was. You're fuckin' warned!!

    Dumb Zombie Fun

    by skimn

If you want to feed your "drive-in-Joe Bob Briggs" jones with a fun little Z-movie you could do worse than Flight Of The Living Dead. Its got a great C level cast with Steve Sommers fav Kevin J O'Connor as, what else, a smart ass con man, gone-to-seed hunk Richard Tyson, and many more..Just don't spend more than 99 cents in the bargain rental bin.
