No Return For Amy Sherman-Palladino’s RETURN OF JEZEBEL JAMES!!
I am – Hercules!!
Fox has aired its last episode of “The Return of Jezebel James.”
The laughtrack-riddled sitcom, the first series created by writer-director Amy Sherman Palladino since parting with brainchild “Gilmore Girls,” only saw three of its seven completed episodes make it to air.

Staying with Gilmore Girls would have been much better than making this failure. Then we wouldn't have been stuck with that shitty final season of GG.
-
But man this show just sucked. I'd like to see the two of them together in another series concept, however.
-
Isn't Bones already CSI-meets-Gilmore Girls (the chatty cute-speak walk-n-talk style)?
-
Might've gotten 4 seasons
-
but wow that show was terrible.

I don't think even Tom Bodet's favorite thing could've saved it.

GIANT ROBOTS. ;)
-
A big deal at the time, but now, not a peep about it.
-
Lets bring out the Peanuts! Fucking every damn broadcast company cancelling every show I love. THANK GOD That Jim show is still on. BRING BACK GREGORY LOPEZ!!! And that Stephen Harvey in the Morning show. They both made me feel like I was the funniest man on planet Earth. fuck Jericho.
-
damn near impossible to watch. After stuff like The Office & 30 Rock...it's difficult watching multi-camera/canned laughter comedies.
-
neather gal was easy on the eyes
-
is just absurd. I'm shocked that new Sunday night comedy with the incredibly gorgeous Rashida Jones is still on the air.
-
...given that it's one of the worst rating new shows that Fox has ever had. Nothing was gonna save this one. And deservingly so, it was fucking awful.
-
Good, now start writing that Gilmore Girls tele-movie.
-
...about how the broadcast networks are working outside of the traditional television season constraints. Still, if you read a list of new shows during the spring up fronts or in the Fall TV Guide new show preview issue and then the show actually debuts in late winter BETWEEN key sweeps periods, you know the network doesn't have much faith in it. I'm talking about you, Unhitched, New Amsterdam, Canterbury's Law. Oh, hi, Eli Stone. Yeah, you too.
-
The two leads deserve much better. And the laugh track is retarded.
-
Might have made it past 3 episodes.
-
Why doesn't Fox put on something like that, hmm? Find some CG-enhanced giant-headed kids and a piano-playing dog. Shouldn't be that difficult. Guaranteed hit with the elusive 8- 23 y.o. insane demographic.
-
For the love of Parker and Lauren, I watched. And I tried to make myself like it. But yeah, the show sucked.
I hope these 2 ladies can ind their way back to tv though. -
Jezebel James probably won't even get a DVD release. Hope Lauren Ambrose moves on to something worthwhile and not some shitty J-horror movie or remake.
-
The one with Anna Paquin?? Last I heard, a few episodes were already in the can (?) I hope it doesn't get the same treatment as Trick or Treat!
-
This was a waste of great talents in front of and behind the camera... I laugh track?! Give me a break. I hope all of them can now move onto better things.
-
I really love this chick. She was outstanding on "Six Feet Under". I hope she ends up on something more deserving of her talent.
-
My understanding is they've now shot four episodes, and the series will debut this fall. HBO was showing a couple of scenes from the new series in its promos a few weeks ago. Agree with MCPot-- Ambrose is an incredible actress who deserves better material.
-
Why can The Paladino's do anything new that was as (overall) brilliant as "Gilmore Girls" ? Looks like they're destined to be one-hit wonders. Pity, that ... really. That is all.
-
I'd bet a lot of money that this show was like so many of the worst GG episodes in that her coattail riding husband was responsible. It could also be that they just gave up because of some disagreement with Fox, but it was just plain awful.
-
The look of the show didn't even seem like a multi-camera show. It actually looked like a single camera sitcom with canned laughter thrown in in post-production. I wonder who's call it was to add it in.
I think the show was pretty awful but the laugh track made it even worse than it was.
I love Parker Posey though. Party Girl is an all time favorite film of mine. -

The sad thing is, you can see how it MIGHT have worked...

... as a dramedy. But the laughy-jokey tone and the agonizingly bad laughtrack killed it.
-
Why this show was even mentioned on this site is beyond me. Do people outside the world of having a vagaina wanted to or did watch this or Gilmore Girls? If so do girls actually read this site?
-
The eventual baby would have been named after the titular imaginary friend. That is all.
-
The network people need to realize that the laugh track is a vestigial organ of televised trickery that the viewing audience has come to see right through. Live audiences are golden, especially with dodgy hit or miss comedies like 'Jezebel James'. This is a show that had too much going for it, but proves that the creator of Gilmore Girls was just a flash in the pan. Nice try, but this show didn't catch lightning in a bottle again...Parker Posey was AMAZINGLY funny in 'The House of Yes'.
-
As much as I am against canceling shows after a few episodes, it was a season pass well worth deleting last week.
-
I finished watching Six Feet Under for the first time on DVD two days before I started watching Jezebel James. Because of that, I constantly interpreted Lauren Ambrose's Jezebel James character's "stupidity and cluelesness" as "Claire Fischer being a smart-ass". I just couldn't separate the two characters in my mind, and therefore her JJ performace didn't make sense to me. :)
-
Horrible laugh track...just horrible.
-
I thought laugh tracks were only supposed to laugh after jokes, but in this shows case I was wrong. I just watched it cause I've had the hots for Parker Posey ever since Best in Show
-
She should've kept her job as a hostess at the local rib joint where I banged her in the stockroom. I miss my high school days. She wouldn't shut up then either. That's why God gave men penises. To stick it in yappy broads mouths.
-
but it did not record. Even the PVR knew it was not worth the effort.
