Craig Brewer wants to be GANG LEADER FOR A DAY!

Published at:  Mar 24, 2008 2:16:09 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. If you're a regular Colbert watcher, you might be like me and recognize this book, GANG LEADER FOR A DAY, from author Sudir Venkatesh's appearance on the show to pimp this book. Sudir spent years befriending the Chicago gangs for research and chronicled the society that formed in the gang communities. He even got to lead for a day, hence the title.

BLACK SNAKE MOAN's Craig Brewer will direct for Paramount Vantage and they've hired SOPRANOS scribe Michael Caleo will pen. I really dig Brewer's style and this could be a good fit.

    First?

I've always wanted to be first. And Hustle and Flow owns, so I'm down for anything Brewer related.

a series of articles for the NY Times where he watched The Wire with a group of New York gang members and got their opinions of the show and each season 5 episode. What does this mean? I don't know, but any excuse to bring up The Wire....

Needs to do something new. He's putting himself in a box and I think he could do some great work if he tried out other genres

Dude is my former teacher and mentor. I am very proud of him and the work he does. Also check out his documentary entitled: "Dislocation." Powerful stuff.

NPR had a more in depth, very interesting interview with Sudhir a while back. Colbert definitely had some fun with him, though. This could be good.
