Tony Gilroy wants him some Giamatti!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I loved MICHAEL CLAYTON... it just came out in a year where it was overshadowed by some incredibly spectacular movies. Tony Gilroy's direction and writing was very strong and now he's building a great cast for his next, called DUPLICITY.
He already has Clive Owen, Julia Roberts and Tom Wilkinson, who was so great in CLAYTON, and now he just cast Paul Giamatti who will play Wilkinson's rival. They're both corporate titans that are battling to one-up the other. Apparently Owen and Roberts play ex-spies who each now work at a different competing corporation. This news reminds me I have to set the DVR for the John Adams HBO series...

Thanks to Tony Gilroy we've had both The Bourne Supremacy (writer) and Michael Clayton (writer/director) over the last year. I'm a fan - not least because he dares suggest that a paying audience may not comprise of a bunch of grunting fuckwits.
If he keeps making movies with that combination of intelligence, integrity and thrills then I'll keep paying to see them. -

Loving Giamatti and Wilkinson going head to head and I can handle Roberts although i'm not a fan, but the half-man half-tree Clive Owen is a negative. Still, I have faith in Gilroy after Clayton to bring something interesting so here's hoping. If, as suggested above, Billy Bob is in this too that would be great.

Of course you have plenty of time to catch up. But Giamatti and Wilkinson are both great in it. I really enjoyed the first two episodes, and highly recommend the series. Very interested in this movie as well. Cast sounds good.

Has done some duds (Shootem' up & King Aurthur) but let's not forget how kick ass of an actor he can be (Sin City, Children of Men and Closer). Plus he probably got the part due to his connection to the Bourne series (he was the assassin who came after Bourne while he was hiding out in the old country house with his girly and some dude & his two kids).

Seriously, Quint, you need to catch up if you can before Sunday (I think they're repeating the first two episodes at least once a day).As a history major at UGA, I can attest that the best part of thsi series is that HBO and Tom Hanks did NOT skirt historical detail.There are no combined characters. There is no "sexing-up" the history surrounding this spectacular time in American, and really, world history.David McCollough was on set to ensure exacting detail of the day to day lives of the colonies, then states.They will not be glossing over the Articles of Confederation period of the country, which will surprise I think, the vast amount of people watching who have no idea that we did not have the Constitution directly following the Revolution.The series goes from the night of the Boston Massacre in 1770, until, I believe, John Adam's death in 1826.In fact, most people do not know this, but John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, friends then rivals then friends again, died on the same day, hours apart. John Adams' last words were, "Thomas Jefferson survives." He had no way of knowing that Jefferson had actually died a few hours before him.The shared date of their deaths? I shit you not - July 4th, 1826, exactly 50 years after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. I think that is MORE awesome than Twain being born and then dying with Haley's Comet, exactly 76 years.I hope that the series spends a lot of time on Adams' and Jefferson's 1796 and 1800 Presidential Elections, and their friendship dissolving, only to be repaired years later as pen pals.Awesome miniseries, Quint. You don't want to wait for DVD for this one. It's going to go Return of the King at the Globes and Emmy's.

They're filled with the kind of fantastical revisionist history that crazy left-wingers are trying to force down people's throats. The particularly don't care for the Founding Fathers. Also, John Adams' Presidency was more George W. Bush than George Washington (Alien and Sedition Act, anyone?) So you should do like me, don't pay attention to the NY Times, which left journalistic integrity in the dust long, long ago.

As far as I'm concerned, he's one of THE writer-directors to watch for. MICHAEL CLAYTON was my personal favorite of the year's Oscar-nominated flicks. And it sounds like DUPLICITY is shaping up just fine.

John McCain, the guy who wants us to stay in Iraq for 100 years (you can google any of the stuff I am about to say, it's all stuff he's really said). John McCain, who wants to invade Iran, who thinks that Iran is helping Al-Qaeda? (Al-Qaeda is a different Muslim sect than Iran is, they hate Al-Qaeda as much as we do and could be a real ally). No the problem is I won't let you spew lies about McCain. He's not a moderate. He's done one bit of "aisle crossing" and that was to work with Russ Feingold on a campaign reform bill. This was of course before he abused the campaign finance laws earlier this year.
Can you name some other times that McCain has reached across the aisle and helped Democrats? He hasn't done that on anything of substance -- when it comes to wars or other Republican wedge issues, he's right in lock-step with the rest of his party.
McCain supports the Iraq war 100 percent and has Joe "we're making huge progress in Iraq, it will all be over in 6 months" Leiberman as his bestest buddy. Since only the dumbest and most gullible idiots, or the most imperialistic, are supporting the Iraq war at this point, that's not moderate.
Voting to allow people to be tortured for "actionable intelligence" is not moderate.
Having George W. Bush call you a child and tell people that you fathered an illegitimate black child through push-polling back in 2000, and then kissing his ass later, is just about the most craven thing a politician can do.
I don't know where you're getting this idea that McCain is moderate. He's a flat-out imperialist who thinks that "National Security" involves having the United States invade other countries. He left his first wife (who cared for his children while he was being tortured in Vietnam) for a rich heiress to kick-start his political career.

Were rich white men who got tired of paying taxes to the British. Fortunately, the result of their petulance was one of, if not the, greatest documents concerning government ever made. I love the new Adams miniseries, especially the court scenes in "Join or Die". Wilkinson is strong as usual. Fabulous show.

Well said, well said indeed. The scariest economic reality to me is the fact that China is and has been buying billions of dollars in Treasury notes and Bonds. Basically, the Chinese government is funding the American government. Imagine the shit storm that'll happen if they decide to dump the notes and bonds. Or, less drastically, it at least gives them a huge amount of leverage when dealing with the U.S. Also, the EU is now considered the world's best economy. They managed this with socialized medicine, strong labor unions & the French. That's impressive.

That cast is going to be irritating in a Gilroy film. The guy is the screenplay equivilant of Bay. His work is souless, idiotic, empty trash that contains lots of actorly poseur moments where people can play serious face so that morons who cant tell the difference between art and their ass can nod along going "Oh, yes, yes, very serious. Hmmm. Art."

Giamatti and Wilikinson are brilliant. Laura Linney's a gem as Abagail Adams and the guy playing George Washington is good to. Also written and directed excellently.
