Schwartz To Paley Crowd: CHUCK Inspired By 24!!

Published at:  Mar 19, 2008 6:07:19 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

The Hollywood Reporter’s James Hibberd staked out The Paley Festival’s “Chuck” event and came away with some geeky nuggets.

The audience learned:

* how “Chuck” was partly inspired by Jack Bauer and “24”;

* the title of the series could have been “Scenario Five” (a title I like a lot better);

* Chuck originally had a very different love interest;

* how ABC reacted to the four-toed ruin on “Lost” (courtesy “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof (who for some reason moderated the “Chuck” panel).

Ain’t It Cool apparently got a shout-out from the stage as well.

Read all of Hibberd’s report on the event here.

If anybody out there attended or will attend any of this month’s Paley events (we’re especially curious about the Judd Apatow panel and the upcoming “Buffy” reunion panel), don’t be shy about rocketing some reportage in this direction: herculesAICN@yahoo.com.

    So how did ABC react? You can't just mention that in passing and not explain.

    No Buffy panel for me.

    by hercules

    But not for lack of trying. Tickets were sold out less than an hour after they went on sale to Paley Center members.

    Hopefully someone will kick in a write-up. And if not, I'll just drag my ass down to the Paley Center a year from now and watch the DVD version.

    What I still don't understand about Chuck

    by chrth

    If they wanted Seth Green on the show, why didn't they hire him? It's not like Seth is that busy. What's with the clone?

    That's not fair. You'd think someone involved would have made that happen. Ungrateful jerks.

    What, you mean producing "Robot Chicken" isn't a full-time job? I'm shocked!

    Still funny, though.

    Also, the "six-toed statue" suggestion by the ABC suits is hilarious. Lindelof is absolutely right: a six-toed statue is just as weird as a four-toed statue.

    DVD of Buffy panel?

    by buffywrestling

    Is that availble for distribution or do they only show it at panel gatherings? Cause I surely would like to check it out.

    Sucks that you couldn't get in, Herc :(

    Chuck: the comic book

    by bigdogg

    DC's Wildstorm imprint (the one that's currently doing Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash and Supernatural comics) announced in their most recent listings that there will be a Chuck miniseries coming written by one of the show's writers.

    It kinda took a month worth of episodes to get its footing, but it is actually one of the better new shows of the season. Besides, Adam Baldwin and a bunch of hot chick just equal good fun for all.

    BUFFY PANEL WILL BE SIMULCAST LIVE

    by droogie alex

    At the Paley "Pushing Daises" panel it was announced the the Buffy Reunion will be simulcast live on the Paley website. I emailed both Harry and Moriarity, but no announcement. You have to be a member to get first crack at tickets, which I got some, even though so many people tried the second they went on sale, their website crashed over and over again. Finnally got my tickets. The Daises panel was a lot of fun, by the way.

    If the website crashed just getting tix, what's it going to do if we try and watch the simulcast?? Still would rather have my own dvd or download, I think.

    Anything interesting about "Pushing Daisies"? Spill all!! And then come back and spill all about Buffy too.

    Good With The Fans

    by manchovy

    For a first season group this pannel had it down. They were ready to laugh at each other, tossed out free t-shirts for the crowd, had Damon Lindelof as the moderator, and stuck around for autographs for just about everybody. Paleyfest RULES!

    That's a good point. I stayed on the computer for an hour to get those tickets. Well, Anna Friel,who plays “Chuck”
    is English, so it was odd to hear her speak, as I hadn't heard of her prior to this. She then talked as Chuck, to everyone's delight. Kristin sang a bit of opera, signed my Wicked book, remembered me from other meetings. Everyone talked about ABC's strong support for the show, so new episodes will come in the fall, instead of being rushed out now. The kid actors who play young Ned & Chuck were there, also. A nice touch. Everyone talked about their favorite moments of the show.

    The quatlity of chuck

    by nabster

    is pretty low. Even the production qualities seem budget, and the acting is your typical tactless tv quality acting. I think anyone would be hardpressed to say this is a good show, but I must admit to downloading them and watching them. Although the only possible way for me to watch this show is watching them one after another. Its definetly not a good enought show to warrant it being watched on a weekly basis, ala lost.
