Young Kyle Reese in McG's TERMINATOR movie is...

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. This is the new Kyle Reese:

Anton Yelchin is getting a lot of play right now. He'll be young Chekov in JJ Abrams' STAR TREK. He was great in Charlie Bartlett and has been a strong actor in everything from the vastly underwatched Showtime series HUFF to ALPHA DOG.

On the surface he feels a little... low-key... to play Kyle Reese. But I will say that Michael Biehn did play Reese as a very internal character that was able to be the badass, hardened warrior. Since Yelchin will be playing a teenage Reese in this film I think it's an interesting choice. I especially like having Christian Bale as John Connor being so much older than his father. It'll be a good dynamic. The only thing that has me worried is a bit of the character relationships described in the Hollywood Reporter article. They say Kyle Reese befriends a character named Marcus, to be played by Sam Worthington. The problem is that Marcus is an "early version" of the Terminator. Now, I don't know about you guys, but having Kyle Reese being friends with a Terminator... that kind of goes against his character in the first film, does it not? There's a hatred for Terminators in that character, someone who grew up in the war... in poverty and seclusion. I'm wary of going back to a "friendly terminator" storyline. Why can't this be a straight up science fiction war movie? That's what we want to see... well, at least that's what I want to see. Or maybe I'm overthinking things. What do you think?
