Wanna see Johnny Depp as John Dillinger in Michael Mann's PUBLIC ENEMY?

Published at:  Mar 18, 2008 11:18:57 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... tonight I received a communique from the spectacular Suki Jonze - who had it on the up and up where I could go to see Johnny Depp as John Dillinger - and I have to say... this is cool. First off - it's just the notion of Michael Mann doing a 30's Gangster story... then there's the notion that Michael Mann has his mitts on Johnny Depp. And that Johnny is playing the movie star of classic gangsters... Dillinger... And then Ms Suki pushed me to the images that just look right. Here... go check it out for yourself...

Are you sure that isn't Jack White?

    by industrykiller!

Either that or Johnny Depp is morphing into...umm...Jack White. Hopefully this is actually a realistic take on the gangster genre, because the last thing we need is another over glorifying Hollywood genre tommy gun shootin' gangster film. The world already ahs one "Mobsters".

Less Gangster, more Spanky from "Our Gang"

Which is to say, he doesn't look so tough. Then again, when you look at old photos of gangsters, they all come off as pasty-faced doughboys.

Except the Johnny Depp smirk. Granted, its good to see Depp out of that ridiculous pirate make up, but sometimes his constant smirk gets annoying.

    by superduper3000

Love Depp, and glad to see him continue to stay true to form. One might have been concerned that the man would have fallen under the spell of Hollywood after Pirates, but going on five years since there's no sign of that ego anywhere. Love it!

Keep 'em coming Johnny! Just no more remakes, OK?

    It's funny

    by malificus

I used to watch Depp on 21 Jump Street back in the day and even then you could tell he had something but also it was like driving a racecar in 2nd gear you could actually FEEL Depp holding back when on screen, he obviously wanted out and it showed in every scene, he didn't phone it in, he just didn't give with the goods, and it was like overwinding a timepiece to watch. It's gratifying to see him now represent what's great about a truly talented actor making choices for himself and not chasing fame or bucks or box office draw, his talent AND his scruples are to be admired. Really great.

    by turd furgusen

Since I live in Madison, I planned on visiting the set. They are supposedly holding shooting for a snowfall we're expecting on Friday.
I love Mann's work and can't wait to see this on the big screen.

I can tell you that Columbus is so proud of this, they plan to save some of the store fronts and props. There is even talk of a plaque being placed in honor of Depp, Bale, and the rest of the crew. Columbus is a great little town and this is huge for them.

Street Kings banner????? I've heard very nothing about this movie. But the Human Torch and the one being in the same movie???? If they touch aren't they going to turn into my bubble like Ron Silver did in Timecop? Can both worlds exists in one movie? Speaking of Ron Silver, funny story, a couple years back I went to a taping of Crossfire, only live TV show taping I've been to, don't ask me why. But he was on it and the audience got to write in questions, all of my were related to Timecop... but the Nazi run CNN didn't ask him my questions. DOUCH! Hope Jonny Sparrow has in English accent in this movie, its well wicked.

I for on, am not looking forward to the mass hysteria/paparazzi/people camped out for days/traffic blocked off an re-routed for blocks around... I mean, it's good for the community and I'm looking forward to the movie...but no way in hell you're gonna catch me down there in what's sure to be that sea of humanity
