On Wednesday night’s “Late Show With David Letterman,” America learns “The Top Ten Reasons To Watch The New Season of Battlestar Galactica.” In keeping with the theme, 10 oddly attired extraterrestrials were chosen to recite the list. A screencap of the reading, shot Monday:

And that, my friends, is why David Letterman > Johnny Carson.

The cast was in Manhattan this week for the big SciFi Channel upfront. The “Galactica” season premiere is April 4.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "Galactica" mastermind Ron Moore said:

* He's not into the idea of a big-screen "Galactica" movie.

* The game plan put in place before the writer's strike changed because walking the picket lines gave Moore time to think.

* Most, but not all, of the series' loose ends would be tied up by the finale.

I thought NBC owned Sci-Fi and was backing Battlestar Galactica, including airing the miniseries premiere and putting reruns in HD on UHD. Does Letterman and/or CBS have any involvement at all with BSG ? If not, it's even cooler of Dave. If so, oh well - it's still cool he's promoting them.

    by dumbpeoplesuck

Okay, so it is a combination of three words, but I couldn't help myself. There's no doubt Letterman is the cream of the latenight crop. When news came that Carson had been secretly passing Dave jokes for years before the former late-night great's passing, that spoke more volumes than had been previously or said of Johnny's distaste at the network for not allowing him to choose his own successor. To me, his legacy lives on through Dave. Just incredible. THANK YOU DAVID LETTERMAN! And to the powers that be, if you want your Globes to remain Golden, BSG needs to the the Return of the King treatment this final time out!

    Letterman sucks

    by expert40

And that's not to say that Leno is better, because he's not, he's just different. But Letterman is overrated, so overrated. His humor is no longer ironic or satiric. He's a pale imitation of what older people tell me Letterman was in the 80's.All of his gesticulating and Hee-Hee's are just retarded, and his banter with his castrated bandleader is boring. At least Leno's bandleader is perpetually stoned, so he's funny in that point and laugh, "Hey, look at that stoned bass player," way.But as far as who's funny on late night now, I'd go O'Brien and Ferguson tied (which sucks, cause they're on at the same time) and followed really closely (I almost made this a three-way tie) by Kimmel, who is hilarious and unafraid to tell the truth about his ass-kissing job.And Caprica, yay!

    by robogeek.com

...that's simply not an option for Moore / Eick / Sci Fi / NBC Universal, as they don't own the feature film rights - original series creator Glen Larson does. (Hence, 'Razor' had to air on Sci Fi before they could release it on DVD.) Oh, and as much as I love Letterman, asserting he's > Carson is just blasphemy (and Letterman'd be the first to say so).

Seriously Herc, I challenge you to defend the Carson thing. I can see Letterman being better than Leno, although most of America (by ratings) would probably deny you that. But Carson? Carson is and always will be the gold standard for late night hosts. He brought in audience numbers Letterman can't even dream of, and was genuinely funny.

Let's get something fucking straight. There would probably have not been a Johnny Carson without Steve Allen. Wikipedia him if you're not busy crapping your diapers.
Carson was the King as Letterman would be the FIRST person to tell you.
Letterman was outstanding and amazing for a very long time and has earned the right to coast a little now, he's still light years ahead of that foul hack Leno.
And Conan and his ticks and mannerisms are TIRED. I like Ferguson a lot, but he is in danger of becoming locked in to the same thing over and over again like Conan.
    And now, back to work.

Does that stand for Hunter S Thompson by the way? Also, I do agree that you could argue that Letterman brought the funny more often than Carson.

The Galactica crew arrives at Earth way, way back in earth's past, co-habitate with the cylons and the mixture of the two races produces the humans that we are today. I could be wrong, but this was strongly, but subtly implied in a previous episode.

Letterman's show may have been funnier in the 80s

    by smackfu

But Carson was generally just a cooler, fun guy to watch. He was clever as shit, the stuff that spontaneously rolled out of him was way funnier than his scripted monologues. Take the script away from Letterman, and what do you get? "Buttafucco....Buttafucco...Butta....foooo....co"
The man literally, from month to month, and sometimes year to year...would just randomly repeat a punchline or random phrase from an earlier monologue, over, and over again whenever he had nothing clever to say. Which was often. He stopped being remotely funny about a year after he moved to CBS, now watching his show is like watching someone with tourettes or Autism, where his primary form of communication is a series of repeating tics and memes.
