The Final WALL·E Trailer Is On Apple.com Now!!

Published at:  Mar 12, 2008 12:00:01 AM CDT

Hey, everyone. “Moriarty” here.

Alright, if you can watch the new WALL·E trailer and not want to see the film, we’re just interested in different things, and I’m certainly not going to convince you simply by telling you how great I think it looks.

Check it out for yourself here, where it’s listed as “Trailer 3”.

There are still a number of things they’re holding back, ideas they’re just hinting at in this, but Disney says this is the final theatrical trailer. Fine by me. I’d rather let Andrew Stanton and those big-brained Pixar boys knock me silly in the theater. I love that they’ve laid the groundwork by letting the character of WALL·E get ingrained in pop consciousness before they started selling the storyline. It’s worked, at least with all the kids we know. Just now, when the trailer went live, some friends of ours were here to meet my new son, and their two kids (ages 4 and 9) and Toshi all crowded around the computer, super-excited to see more footage of WALL·E, and they went absolutely apeshit for what they saw.

Me? I’m just intrigued by what looks like a cross between a Buster Keaton comedy and 2001, and I hope this marks another step forward for the Pixar team.

I’ll leave you with a comment I heard from Jeremy Smith, the artist formerly known as Mr. Beaks, when he got back from Pixar. He told me that he asked Stanton why WALL·E would have a video copy of the god-awful HELLO DOLLY, and Stanton replied, “Because WALL·E has terrible taste.” For some reason, that entertains me mightily.

Is it June yet?

I loved the Incredibles and Ratatouille but i wouldn't really call myself a Pixar fanboy (though i've liked all their films). But this movie can't get here soon enough. At this moment in time i think this is my #2 most anticipated movie of the summer after Dark Knight, and this is coming from a HUGE fan of Marvel Comics and Steven Spielberg.

He created the sounds and voices for all the Star Wars films and has now done the same for Wall-E. This film WILL ROCK!!

Check out this video to see Ben and his team at Sprocket Systems (now Skywalker Sound), record and build the library of sounds in their first 10 year. Sounds still being used today.

...because of the cute, little robots. The only thing I don't care for about the trailer is the hint of a romantic element between WALL-E and the other robot. Something about machines getting smoochy with one another just strikes me as weird. That's just a personal preference, though. Mostly, I think this flick looks fabulously promising. Really looking forward to this one.

Thank you, Transmetropolitan. I left a comment on your Melon video as Colorscheme.

It's interesting to feel the difference between what it was like to be taken by surprise by Yoda and ET nearly 30 years ago and now anticipating this little guy to do the same when we have full knowledge of his predecessors. Yes, he will sweep the world over. The difference is, we're waiting for it. I don't know what that means, really... Just an wistful observation about the nature of cinema and the prevalence of the 'net. NOTHING can sneak up on us anymore... if we're plugged in.

At the same time, my nine-year-old picked the right time to be a kid. She'll devour this.

With the prominent feauture of wall-e's ETish voice the teaser and trailer almost left me with an annoying feeling every time I watched them in the theater. But this... this looks fabulous. can someone please explain to me the big deal about this thing? it's like you all are starved for something to get excited about, and this is what you're being told you've always wanted to see, and you're buying into it. pixar puts out a movie every year guys, sometimes they are pretty good, sometimes not so much, this will probably be in the pretty good category-- but it is still a movie about a cute robot putting a bra on its head, not the seventh lost star wars film or whatever would merit this reaction.

Give highlights, but don't give away plot. Besides knowing there's a love interest and that Wall-E ends up on some different ships/planets, I have NO idea what's going on. Plus, this was the first trailer in ages that gave me a belly laugh. I'm very excited.

And some people here are asking for some adult sci-fi. I don't totally disagree, but I think there are still some people in the industry trying to lick their wounds from Titan A.E.

You're right. Titan AE is not adult SF. I was thinking more in terms of a sci-fi film that included some adult tones, language, and humor (still wrapped up in a generally family-friendly package), which is what I erroneously thought the other posters were saying. In that effect, Titan AE had some writing from Ben Edlund that was laced for a more mature audience--and it flopped (AND it was actually done by a reputable animator). That was what I was drawing from. I didn't think we were asking Pixar to start animating films written by Nivenh or Clarke.

Wow, looking at this it's huge, beyond what I imagined. Since when does a movie make you feel like that in these times? Did I say 'best movie ever'? I meant best movie ever apart from The Dark Knight.

Google 'Quicktime alternative'. It sorted me out when Quicktime was giving me problems, and is generally an all around awesome piece of software. I now have the WallE trailer sitting on my desktop to watch whenever I want. :^)PS, Realplayer alternative is a must as well, because if Quicktime can be a bit finnicky, Realplayer is just a piece of shit and always has been.

Robots are in because of Battlebots ?

    by irrelevntelefant

Pixar's timing is better because ESPN is bringing back battlebots? really? do you think battlebots came up at ANY Pixar product meeting? no, it didn't I hear ESPN 2 is bringing back Roller Derby, time for Pixar to dust off that Derb-E script...

Good God Pixar is going to rake it in this summer. And more importantly, the movie looks like it deserves to.

    I told YOU!

    by earl of sandwich

I knew the bitching would start, there was simply too much excitement in one thread to allow it to continue. Why do so many people expect Pixar to make anything other that children's movies. Please show me a quote, article, or bar napkin that details Lasseter's intrest in making anything other than the best children's entertainment. Some of us have just forgotten what it feels like when you are a kid and movies (especially animated ones) seem like the biggest gift to you. It's 90 minutes (which is a long time to a kid) of something that was made for YOU. You don't know it in a literal sense, but you still feel it. I can see it on my son's face when I watch Cars or Aladdin, and that's why Pixar exists. To keep giving that experience to kids, with the knowlege that what they are producing is the best they can do. And damned if they haven't hit it out of the park almost every time. And if I hear one more Short Circuit crack, I'm gonna lose it.

Finally PIXAR makes a PIXAR film again!

    by fleshmachine

CARS really blew (I thought the whole premise was pretty lame) and RATATOILLE was surprisingly disappointing (the charachters paper thin, the whole story too obvious). This looks like something fresh.

    HYPE KILLS.

    by potsmokinalien

Remember when a few years ago everyone on this site was using the phrase "I call bullshit?" Well I am doing that now, i am bringing that irritating phrase back for this irritating-looking movie. The hype campaign started at 10 for this thing and has just maintained the same stance, "HOW COULDNT YOU LOVE THIS LITTLE FELLA HE IS CUTE AFTER ALL AND YEAH YOU LOVE HIM TOO, YOU, SITTING THERE AT YOUR COMPUTER, OUR MARKETING ANALYSTS HAVE DECIDED YOU ARE A 'GEEK' AND THEY HAVE ALSO DECIDED 'GEEKS' LOVE CUTE LITTLE ROBOTS SO TELL EVERYONE HOW EXCITED YOU ARE ABOUT THIS MOVIE YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE ANY RESPECT FROM THE OTHER 'GEEKS' NOW DO YOU?? C'MON, FIT IN FOR US, IT MAKES OUR JOB EASIER." Look in the archives at the first bits of publicity, we got some well-animated but utterly unremarkable shorts of the robot running into a pane of glass or some such horseshit and our corporate 'pals' here at AICN are all "OH MY GOD!!!! THIS MOVIE IS SO FUCKING AMAZING YOU CAN ALREADY TELL HOW FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE IT'S GOING TO BE LOOK AT HOW CUTE!!" And everyone falls in line behind them: This movie is 'genius' based on a 2-year-old getting momentarily worried because the main character was placed in danger?? Yeah. 'Genius' all right, let me get my pen and pad out to steal that groundbreaking dramatic principle before i forget it. this movie is 'one of the major milestones in cinematic history'?? Give me a god damn break dude! The motherfucking thing is not even out yet and based on two minutes of cutesy-poo hijinks you're putting it in the same class as 2001 and Citizen Kane. OK, guys. When this thing lets you down this summer, remember what got your hopes up in the first place.. HYPE.

Personally, I get this feeling of an epic journey of discovery, where anything is possible. I've always loved space and this just feels so epic and imaginative. I guess it just strikes a nerve.

He had ET's purr and R2's beep-boops. It's like they took the best from both of them and added that Pixar qualitly of making the mundane special.

    Jagged Fanboys

    by redfist

Hey guys, now I know that you have been fucked over in the past. I know that a lot of films have broke you heart, raped you wallet and left you feeling like a used condome. But have a little faith. You know that rush that you felt watching that Indiana Jones Trailer....when he put the hat on in shadow...that little giggley feeling you had, it is ok, it is normal. So just have it and let others have it too. Then again, a hater will hate everything.

I'm as cynical as anyone, maybe more so...

    by metaluna

...but this looks excellent to me, visually speaking. We all might get in there and the story might suck harder than a Dyson, but I have faith in Pixar as they usually put that high on the agenda. If the story is as good as those visuals, we're all in for a treat. It's a good job this isn't opening on the same day as Indy. I'd get stuck in an infinity loop deciding what to see first.

    by dangerousapple

But what's that business at the end with the shopping carts? I can't make heads or tails of what I'm looking at. His 'girlfriend' scans a windmill, suddenly Wall-E panicks and even more suddenly the carts go chasing him. Most random thing I ever seen. Does someone understand what's happening there?

    Beautiful render engine

    by movietool

I'll wait to see it to see if the movie's good - but I'll definitely coment on how gorgeous that render engine is. I see that planet Earth stuff I want Pixar to make John Carter as a 3-D film so bad it hurts.

Every movie is great. If you had to pick the top 50 animated movies of all time, Pixars would dominate the top 10. Of which is the top would be the only argument.

    JESUS HAS COME BACK!!

    by arcadiands

If that was an actual real news event and JESUS himself actually came back, and in his own words, "...man I gotta see this Wall-E thing.." the same haters would be saying in response, "...what the hell does stupid Jesus know about movies? Wall-E is hype and its obvious that Pixar bought off Jesus with banner ads."
That is the level of stupid to which the haters in this talkback have reached. Great Success, fellas.
