There’s A New Trailer For John Woo’s BATTLE OF RED CLIFF!

Published at:  Mar 09, 2008 11:17:49 PM CDT

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Pleasebegood. Pleasebegood. Pleasebegood.

I want a good John Woo film so much I can’t stand it. I remember when I loved his work, and I find his last decade’s worth of output incredibly depressing.

Maybe he feels the same. Maybe this is what he needed to do all along, and this is going to be a genuine return to form for him. At any rate, thanks to Twitchfilm’s Todd for sending us this link.

Pleasebegood. Pleasebegood. Pleasebegood.

Hey! There's a new Japanese trailer for John Woo's Battle of Red Cliff and it looks amazing!

You'll find it here!

Todd.

    First

    by hoorayforeric

The movie is really only 15 minutes long...but since John Woo uses so many slow motion shots...it'll stretch it to 3 hours.

It hurts me to admit this...

John Woo makes bad movies. There I said it.Seriously, back in the day I was as big a fan of Woo as the next guy. But I eventually realized that all he did was come up with what were some really cool innovative gags to the action scene at the time. That's it. Gags which have since been adopted by much better filmmakers to much better effect.I've always had a problem with the thinking that being the first makes you the best. I don't want Orville and Wilbur Wright working on my 747.

Woo hasn't made a decent film since Face-off

    by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks

If you didn't know about his earlier and better films we would be comparing him to Jan DeBont. Windtalkers was horrible and Paycheck was average(though at least on par with Broken Arrow). It's just depressing when a Van Damme movie is his second best American film.

I dont know if american audiences will ever be satisfied with a John Woo movie because their expectations seem so out of whack. The directors cut of Windtalkers was a great movie and pure John Woo. Over the top violence and a wonderfully corny story about friendship and loyalty. That's what he DOES. The biggest problem with his american movies was they just weren't crazy enogh but I don't think that was his fault. He should just stay in HK, where I'm sure he has a lot more control. BTW AICN, you better watch out. Twitch is fast becoming the coolest movie site on the web.

...Correction, John Woo hasn't made a decent film since he left Hong Kong. Face/Off was dreadful.
Cage and Travolta out-hamming each other amid endless tiresome slo-mo gun battles. Ooh look! We can see the bullets leaving the barrel! They're holding their guns sideways again, that's so-o-o cool!
    Yawn...

    Face Off???

    by metaluna

Yeh... thanks for that Mr Wayne. Haven't stopped laughing for the last 1/2 hour since I read that comment. He's an amazing action director (as this looks) but his stories are hopeless.

I'd rather see another 2 gun action/crime movie from Woo

    by neo zeed

He was the master at it. When Woo went back to HK, I was hoping we'd get another Hard-Boiled style action flick from him. I will admit this movie is a good way to get back into critics' good graces (With the historical angle and what not). However, there are other directors who can make this kind of movie, but there is no director who can make action scenes as wild as Hard-Boiled or The Killer.

    woo is cool

    by mr.slade

the problem is that he has been ripped off so many times that when he does his thing its like a paraody of himself, face/off was cool for what it was, a really good action movie. Red Cliff could go either way but his last epic war movie was utter shit

    Broken Arrow

    by mattmanreturns

is the last movie of Woo's that I enjoyed, mainly because it had no pretentions. It was just an action movie that blew up helicopters and shot people real good. Face/Off is one of those movies I thought I liked, but now I can't take seriously.
