My problems with 'I am Legend', 'Ang Lee's Hulk' and the above picture. The director should have the guts to say to the CG dept : It looks CG ! How hard is it to photo a real armour ? Shouldnt be too expensive to make a real suit for the close ups (in terems of a studio movie) ? Cameron got it right 17 years ago when he mixed CG and real props. (Tippet's handywork) especially for the close ups. Sigh.

The poster is obviously inspired by classic movie posters painted by Drew Struzan such as the Star Wars trilogy, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future. It's a throwback, but a charming one and reflects the care and good taste of the people involved in this film. The only mistake they made was not actually getting Drew Struzan to paint it.

You look at the cast as listed on there, and if you isolated that from the rest of the poster, you'd have no clue it was a comic book movie cast. Which is a good sign. That's the best poster I feel like I've seen in years; impressive looking without being silly. Makes it seem like what it seems to be (a really quality piece of work, a good movie that happens to be based on a comic, instead of a 'comic movie').

It's really more meh than crap. It's not earth shatteringly original, but at the same time it feels right for this film. The poster reads to me as saying Ironman is a summer blockbuster, which is what it is! As excited as I am about this film, I'm not really expecting to use the parts of my brain that I would for say... The Dark Knight. Maybe that's just because I'm not a huge Ironman fan like I am Batman, and thus don't understand it for the deep thinking man's comic that it is. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's mindless, nor am I meaning to talk smack about the Ironman. I'm just saying its more about blowing shit up. Blowing shit up with class and quality, but blowing stuff up nonetheless. So anyway, the fact that it doesn't have a poster as great as the "Why So Serious?" one for Dark Knight doesn't freak me out.

Its not too flashy, its not too dark, its not centered on JUST Robert Downey Jr., and it feels like a poster that gives you a feel for the movie.
Good symmetry too.

Not enough old skool poster art around today, nothing compares to the excitment and dynamism of a beautifully rendered poster illustration (Bysouth, Chantrell, Struzan, Peak, Casaro, Amsell and Kirby masters all). Photoshop compositing can be effective when applied artfully but most of the shite out there is sterile and dull.

As much as I love Orson Scott Card, I am so glad they went with the original concept of Iron Man with Stark just being a smart, conflicted and motivated motherfucker with a fat bankroll. I hated when he was made a mutant in the Ultimate comics. Thanks, John Favreau and crew!

you have to add in explosion/fire and fighter jets in the background. it's called pandering to the lowest common denominator. direct to video actioners has that kind of poster all the time. looks like it took about 10 seconds to conceive and put together.

But, like a couple of other posters have mentioned, that same collection of images would look a thousand times better if it had received the Drew Struzan treatment. Jesus, that guy paints some amazing posters, and the composition of this is so similar that you can't help wishing it was painted rather than photoshopped.Also, I am running out of ways to express my excitement for this Iron Man superhero comic book film. It's my number one pick for this summer and I can't wait to see it, but there's still another two months to go!

What's with the negativity toward her? She's an elegant, old-fashioned beauty, and also a perfectly decent actress, so I don't get the venom. I wouldn't have given her an Oscar, but I've liked her a few films, especially Great Expectations, Sylvia, Mrs Parker (a favourite of mine), and The Royal Tenenbaums. Anyone would think she was Jessica Alba bad from all the flack she gets around here.

If you step back and look at the overall design, there's a HUGE ugly black space down the middle of this poster. Better idea would be to commission some Marvel artists to do several posters, even some old timers like Steranko. Mix them in with new guys like Adi Gadnov. It's a way to tie the source material to the film and perhaps draw some new customers to the comic medium.

That is a film I would probably watch. A bunch of super-rich guys with fancy mechanical suits that let them fly and blow stuff up and whatnot, and they spend all their time wandering around getting drunk and acting like assholes and pulling chicks. I'm not sure what the story is (maybe Spandau Belly can work on that), but it would make me laugh.Renny Harlin is, I believe, attached to direct.

The dramatic stares/poses/lighting and the fireball and planes in the background are a bit much (even for a comic book film) and make it too busy but it could've been worse.

The poster reminds me of every low-budget movie I've ever seen. You know, the type of movie that's done in someone's spare time but try to make their film look as professional as possible, but they still manage to make shitty looking posters like this one for Iron Man.

Has been awesome. But this poster looks like some bad movie starring a rapper. They should have just stuck with the original poster. I now loathe when a movie I really want to see is getting closer to release. Because more and more crap gets made for it then is necessary. Call me a dick, but ever since Ledger passed away, there has been very little new Batman stuff, when it looked like they were going to start a new poster out every day. Which from a marketing stand point makes perfect sense. Too bad it takes the death of the star of the movie to get studios to shut up and stop jamming crap down our throats.

Fair enough. I'm not a comic geek and mean no offense to Ironman fans, but regardless of what Ironman is like in the comics, this film has been packaged the way I've said. We've heard little to nothing about a complex villain. The the redemptive superhero arc is almost as basic as it gets. Nothing about this film's trailers has indicated to me that I should expect more than a great summer blockbuster, so if that's the case, than what's the deal with a poster that tells me its a big flashy blockbuster. If this film is more complex and being handled wrong, then why are so many Ironman fans drooling over the trailers? It seems to me that it is giving people what they want. I'm not saying the film is stupid. Understand that I watch maybe 6 films a year in the theater and this will be one of them. I really am looking forward to this. When I say it's a blow shit up blockbuster, I mean that in the best possible way. Most blockbuster action movies suck because they are bad movies, not because they are blockbusters. This looks like one that's doing it right.

And I totally agree with Series7: they're really blowing their wad now that the release date approaches. The last trailer was nice (by far my favorite - the only one that truly pumped me up) but they screwed the pooch again with too many revelations and details about the plot. Spider-Man 3 all over again.
And as a life-long Shellhead reader I agree with ya too Neosamurai: the only shot that gave the movie a clever and "deep" look was in a teaser posted months ago (Downey sat down with his Power Glove, with his "intense" look on), the rest is clearly marketed as brainless fun. Even an old fan like me can admit it. The substance is here - no doubt about it - but somehow they chose to give it a manic, ADD spin that's not totally coherent with the way they sold us the movie since its inception. Strange. -

My mom knows who batman is. She's heard of spiderman. Superman... check. She has no clue who Iron Man is. This is Snakes on a Plane all over. The web gets jazzed because they're comic book fans and they then think that means 300 mill at the box office. NOt a chance. No way. And I really like the trailer and like Iron Man and hope this movie rocks. But it doesn't have a chance.

Supposedly, creator/artist Dave Stevens bought a huge luxury home in L.A., thinking he'd profit from "inevitable" sequels and merchandising. Oops. The p.r. office has obviously declined to promote (supposedly) a cameo by beloved, iconic radio personality High Pitch Eric. Pity; could add millions to the tally, right?

Why is the dominant visual element a big blob of blackness inthe middle?Why can't it seem to decide if it's a photo or painting?Why, if this is an action movie, are all the images so stiff and still-looking--no movement at all?I've seen tons of cooler-looking images of the suit--why use this mostly-shadowed one?Thankfully, everything I've ssen of the film itself looks terrific. This poster just looks like they couldn't afford to do a proper one, which in turn makes the movie look cheaper than it is.
