FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Getting Third Season On DirecTV?? (Then NBC??)

Published at:  Mar 06, 2008 2:23:21 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

It looks like a third season of “Friday Night Lights” will air first on DirecTV (Channel 101 I guess?) then on NBC, at least if the rumors are true.

Deadline Hollywood claims it has a source, but Deadline Hollywood’s sources are wrong sometimes. Mike Ausiello at TV Guide hasn’t been able to confirm anything at NBC.

Find the Deadline Hollywood story here.

(Thanks to BourneAgain for the heads up.)

This is great news for fans of quality TV.

They don't give Peabodies away for nothing. One thing does bother me though: Why does NBC/Universal expect people to buy the season 2 DVDs, seeing as the season has no ending??

    This is nice to see.

    by codymr

Have not read the original source material, but thought the feature film was one of the surprises of that year. It is one of the few Book > Film > TV adaptations that works well. I can't for the life of me figure out why this show does not do better?! Although I think the cast is a bit too pretty in the TV version, it does have the hunk/T&A factor covered. Perhaps the "affluent demo" doesn't want to watch a show about football meatheads and the "average viewer" doesn't want to see a show mirroring their own lives... I can't figure it - why can CSI or Las Vegas or Prison Break find and audience, but quality like FNL struggles?!

I hope this is true. This is definitely a superb show.

Man, that cover for the season 2 DVD is ATROCIOUS. Could they have chosen more inappropriate expressions for each character?

    Can't blame NBC...

    by yanksno1

if they tank it. Looks like they're really trying to make this show work which I give them props for. I was sorta hoping they'd just sell it to ESPN and they'd take it over, but at least this is a solution as well. A very interesting one indeed. Hopefully the airing on D* will be in HD.

    Season 2 DVD

    by shoe1985

Hopefully it has better features than the first one.

As for season 3, bring it on. This show is one of the best on right now, too bad people prefer reality shows.

As for why it doesn't do better.

    by wheel99

It needs a better time slot. This show should have been given ER's Thursday night slot and what passes for ER these days should have been moved to Tuesdays. People would have watched out of curiosity about the show that they bumped for ER alone.

I am not a FNL fan but...

    by maestro610

I have to say that this kind of news excites me because if Directv is going to start picking up series that are cancelled or at least footing enough of a subsidy to keep them on the air for another season by having first run exclusivity... think of the possibilities. There could be hope for other shows, I'd love to see Journeyman back in midseason if this experiment works out. I hope along with the rest of you that FNL will be brought back in this capacity because it may serve other rating starved series as well.

    by executor

and 2for2true, re: Sunny in Philly: I hadn't heard that, but the show was shit last season. And I thought S1 and 2 were some of the funniest half hours of TV ever, rivaling Curb at points. S3 was terrible.

    Sunny Season 4

    by stuntman mikey

great article up on ew.com about season 4 with Rob M. It will be 13 episodes and looks to feature the return of "Day Man/Night Man"

Season 4 premieres in the fall and the season 3 dvd set which will be fully loaded will probably be out just before the S4 preem.
