Alleged new Bruce Campbell film!

Published at:  May 10, 1999 5:12:45 AM CDT

I don't have second sources on this one, but since Bruce Campbell is coming to the ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE (For More Details Click Here!) on June 4th, so I'll be able to ask him then. But for now... take it as strictly RUMOR!

Harry my pallamino!

Great news about the uber-actor Brucie!

Rumour has it he is being pursued to star in a low budget Black'n'White
British flick called 'Preacher; ' as are Christopher Lee and Brian Dennehy.

Wait till ya hear the plot of this baby!

Campbell is Caleb Archer, a Southern American Preacher who is found
unconscious among his slaughtered congregation and becomes the prime
suspect.Because of the nature of the crime he is banged up in an asylum and
given electric shock treatment. Then in the solitude of his cell he is
tormented by a Demon who claims to be responsible for the gruesome crime!

More news on his shit-hot surreal British Psycho-thriller when my pals at
Channel 4 Films and Natural Nylon tell me some more.

See ya!

"Preacher?" Suonds like the Vertigo Series...

    by talgar

I dunno about this - the plot sounds VERY close to the DC / Vertigo series "Preacher" - down to a Preacher being found in the middle of his dead congregation, in a small town, and Demon in his head being responsible. Supposedy work IS being done on a Preacher film - but it's supposed to be serious, I can't see bruce playing Jesse Custer unless either A) He's playing it straight, or B) they goat-f*cked the original concept.

    MOVIE SCOOP! MUST READ!!

    by red7ine

Just got news on a new movie called 'THE WOLVEROONIE' It's about some dude named OganLay who is found in the Canadian wilderness and given adamantium claws and bones! Wow! Slated to star is Marlon Brando, Arsenio Hall, and Bernadette Peters!

My top-secret source also mentioned something about a new movie with some guy in a red and blue jumpsuit that can climb walls and 'shoot' webs out of his 'web-shooters'! Neat-O !!
Starring Jonathan Brandis as SPIDER: THE MAN and Tony Curtis as VENOMOUS !

    heh...

    I'm gonna assume...

    by rocqueja

...that there is a mix up somewhere here. This sounds way too close to the comic book so it could be that it is the film version and the reporter has it wrong about being a low-budget black and white (neither would work for the concept of Preacher). But as for Bruce playing Preacher, of course he can do it. The man is a fantastic actor who had he been given a chance or had he wanted to he could have been huge, he's got the looks, the charisma, and the talent. "Good, bad, I'm the one with the gun!"

Preacher's Demons and what McKracken wants: EVIL DEAD 4

    by mckracken

This flick sound extremely cool. Bruce is a talented actor and deserves better than what he's been given: a five minute walk on extended cameo victim in "Congo", "Army of Darkness", Guest spots on "Lois and Clark" and "X-Files", reoccuring roles on "Xena: warrior Princess" and "Hercules". Ok I am only gonna say this once and one time only (and yes I'm shouting because nobody seems to be listening) "PREACHER" WONT MAKE NEARLY AS MUCH MONEY AS "EVIL DEAD 4" WOULD. MAKE "EVIL DEAD 4" DAMMIT, MAKE IT NOW!! THIS IS WHAT THE FANS WANT, BRUCE. THE FANS WANT EVIL DEAD 4!!!! Bruce I've been to your Evil Dead 4 page, how can you justify saying "Army of Darkness" didnt pull in the kind of money needed to make another movie? "Army Of Darkness" wasnt made off the profits of "Evil Dead 2", everybody knows that! Give the fans what they WANT!! ugh... McK out.

    by uncle cracky

Now, I don't claim to know much about plotline ripoffs, comic book movies and the like. But I do know what sounds good. And Bruce Campbell playing an insane religious man in an asylum being tortured by a demon REEKS of cool. I don't know if Evil Daed 4 would be better or worse than this. I'm still psyched that I may have a chance to actually see 'Running Time' someday...

    The Bruce and Jesse

    by hyde'nseek

It'd be nothing new for me to say that this is a blatant ripoff of the Preacher comic. Or hopefully, a misinformed scoop on the actual Garth Ennis movie. I'll be the first to agree that Bruce is a talented actor, one of my favorites, actually. I also think that he deserves much better roles than the cheesy walk-ons he recieves. But Evil Dead 4? Come on, really. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the hell out of the Evil Dead movies, but let's face it: those movies are the reason he just gets the walk on roles. People think of Bruce, and they think "Cheesy, square-jawed hero." I think that Bruce could play the HELL out of Jesse Custer. And, God willing, maybe he is under consideration for the part. But Eviel Dead 4? From everything I read on Bruce's website, he's not too excited about the idea of a fourth movie. Isn't that the important thing? Give the guy a little respect and root for him to land a good, solid acting role.

    PREACHER

    by w. leach

All right! This sounds like one cool flick. Bruce Campbell (still my only choice for Robert Neville in I AM LEGEND) is the best action/comedy/horror/sci-fi actor working today. And Christopher Lee? Only one of this century's finest character actors. In Black and White? Glorious, beautiful Black and White? What can I say that hasn't already been said? Oh yeah: is this going to be a period film? Can anyone enlighten me?

    EVIL DEAD 4 PLEASE!

    by mulder2001

i just bought the Evil Dead series on DVD (including the new kick ass Evil Dead collector's editon), and I am dying for the futuristic ED4. Anyone seen the Japanese "Captain Supermarket" version of Army of Darkness? All you can say when you see it with it's 1,000,000 times better apocalyptic ending and awesome deleted scenes is god, America sucks.

Oh, and we'll never see Evil Dead 4. It would be too damn cool.

Who Cares? Bring on the dead!

    by futuremoviesman

Who really cares bout this movie called "Preacher"???? Certainly not me. After just recently renting all of the Evil Dead movies, I suddenly got the urge to look up to see if there was a new one coming out. I mean, for god sakes, we can get a new Star Wars movie, but not an Evil Dead movie? That's stupid. Then I went to Aint-It-Cool-News.com to see if they had anything. When I read this article, the first thing I thought was, Evil Dead 4, but its not. I guess that this movie will have to make up for it. Thanks for helping out the fans Bruce!

    Get a grip...

    by matchstick

You all sound like a bunch of OLD LADIES!!! Jesus, it's a RUMOR!!! Maybe it's right, maybe it's blantantly false. Who cares? Evil Dead 4? While it would be INCREDIBLY cool, it probably won't happen. Bruce isn't too keen on ED4, and Sam Raimi's next film is a baseball romance with Kevin Costner, "For The Love Of The Game," so it's not really likely he'll reverse his new "legit" course. Harry, you oughta stop posting comic-book movie rumors, it just arouses and enflames the "living in their parent's basement" crowd.
    -Matchstick

p.s. That last sentence was a JOKE! I don't want fifteen emails from people defending the fact that thier "just living there until I get out from under my Visa debt."

Bruce get it in gear, MAYBE Raimi isn't right 4 Evil Dead 4

    by grouchlord

Well, after some thought, I'd likely conjecture that Raimi isn't inclined to revisit Evil Dead, although it's a shame. Simple Plan was a good movie, a little flat and a downer, but I'll never forget Billy Bob askin' to be put down like a dog. Really, maybe what 4 would need is some new blood(hee, hee.) If Peter Jackson wasn't already moving on I'd say him. In it's day, I loved DeadAlive, and although it was stained a bit by Zemekis meddling, I think Frighteners was sorely underappreciated, especially with the creepy hospital shooting scenes and crazy Dee and ugly Busey. Perhaps, Raimi could produce and give parameters but I' rather see an ambitious retelling than a sad return of the originals, Phantasm Oblivion anyone? I did'nt think so. Hell, even Lynch, if he's poor enough yet could do something fun.

    Bruce, Preacher, and Beyond

    by justin sane

You know, as I was reading the Talkbacks, one thought occured to me: Are you all so quick to discredit the "Preacher" movie as being the movie adaptation of the comic book because it's in black-and-white? Have you thought that maybe the Preacher movie will be shot in b&w? Personally, I prefer b&w to color in most cases...
And for anyone who is a disbelieving blasphemer, just you remember that ol' Brucie Baby is one fine actor...

    Preacher casting

    by hyde'nseek

To all of you worried about Ben Affleck playing Jesse Custer, calm down. As I heard it, Affleck turned it down, citing that he didn't want to do another controversial religious film right after doing Dogma. So, as far as I can tell, the role of Jesse is still open. Cameron Diaz as Tulip? I can see that. I certainly don't have any better ideas. But as for Sam Jackson as the Saint of Killers? Dear God, help us. I love Samuel L. Jackson as much as the next guy, if not more, but c'mon people. Need I point out that the Saint of Killers is white? I agree that there aren't enough black characters in comics, and I don't want this to turn into a race issue, but don't change the already existing characters in order to feel more P.C. That would have been like keeping Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent for the third Batman movie (piece of crap, regardless.) Lance Henrikson still has my vote. And as for Evil Dead 4? Let it go, people. Let it go...

    by mckracken

I've never read the Preacher comic, but if Saint of Killers is white, they should find a white actor to play the part (notice they did this in SPAWN, casting D.B. "I got famous playing Strange Luck" Sweeney) Lance Henriksen will need a gig after Millenium (damn that cancellation bites ..damn DAMN DAMN!!) Personally I'm hoping he'll be busy doing the Bishop android in "Alien 5" but hey who am I kidding. I will NOT let EVIL DEAD 4 go...NEVER!!! EVIL DEAD rocks!!! (and as soon as this teenie bopper slasher fest gets discontinued, real horror will be back, and then GORE films will be back after that) Bruce Campbell IS "ASH"...he says on his Evil Dead 4 page that he would do another Evil Dead/Army of Darkness "but dont hold your breath" so he's there, Raimi is there (well maybe not after directing Kevin Kostner but one can only hope ehh?) the fans need to push for a MASSIVE campain to boost independant GORE films like DEAD/ALIVE again...that would rock!!! LONG LIVE GORE FLICKS!!!!!

    by plosion

might be able to pull off a good St. O' Killers. Check out his performance in Dead Man. However, if you want to wait a little while, I'm almost positive that as I write this Robert Mitchum is kicking the shit out of the Devil and will offered the role for real. Damn I love that man.
