Ain't It Cool News (

Monday Brings The Big 2-Hour TERMINATOR Season Finale!!

I am – Hercules!!
I have not been watching. All the adventures of cyborg Cameron and her humanity-savior friends nestle safely on my DVRs. Was it as good as “Terminator” or “Terminator 2”? Of course not!! But was it as good as “Prison Break” or “Supernatural” or the latest season of “Dexter”? I don’t recall Fox yet renewing “Terminator” for a second season. Here’s the talkbackers’ chance to convince fellow geeks to pony up for the inevitable season-set DVD. Here’s how Fox describes tonight’s installments:
John defends Cameron against a damning accusation by Derek, putting him and Derek at odds, while Sarah finds herself in a business transaction with a mysterious business man. Meanwhile, Cromartie closes in on John and Agent Ellison discovers a nemesis at the agency on the "Vick's Chip/What He Beheld." Guest Cast: Garret Dillahunt as Laszlo/Cromartie; Dean Winters as Charlie; Matt McColm as Vick; Kristina Apgar as Cheri Westin; Jose Luis Chavez as Morris; Brian Austin Green as Derek Reese; Andre Royo as Sumner; Jonathan Sadowski as Sayles; Edoardo Ballerini as Timms; Karina Logue as Barbara; Diana Maria Riva as Dr. Carmen Cabrera; Allen Evangelista as Doug; Tony Ramond Wilde as Eric Carlson; Bruno Amato as Gym Coach; Joshua Wold Coleman as Clerk; Aki Kotabe as Kendo; Brian D. Jones as EMT; Ismail Bashley as ER Doctor; Claudia Choi as Nurse; and Derek Basco as Worker at Hospital; Catherine Dent as Agent Greta Simpson; Keith Pillow as Mr. Bianchi; James Urbaniak as Caf Manager; Craig Faribass as Sarkissian; Jesse Garcia as Carlos; Sabrina Perez as Chola; Bailee Madison as Little Girl; Mark Bloom as FBI Evidence Clerk; and Ramona Duberry as Karen.
8 p.m. Monday. Fox.

    Best show on TV...

    by Rindain

This show is like crack. It's awesomely woven into the first two movies 9especially that future war episode). Fox NEEDS to renew this...not just for fans, but for themselves...this is the kind of show that will build a huge audience once the dvd hits.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:21 a.m. CST

    by Errockk

I saw the pilot, and it wasn't bad. definitely gonna netflix it.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:26 a.m. CST

Best show on TV in sucky TV land

    by AxeBox

Which is our current TV climate. The show's watchable, but that's about it. Nothing memorable or exciting, and the characters are good but aren't given great things to do.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:28 a.m. CST

    No Errockk, you're not first...

    by LordPorkington

So where do you go from here? You've made a fool of yourself, and every time I see your name in a Talkback from now on, I'll think to myself "There's Errockk, the idiot who tried to cover himself in glory and failed for all to see". Let Errockk be a lesson to you all, this whole 'First!' bullshit needs to be dropped!

  • March 3, 2008, 12:29 a.m. CST

This show deserves a second season.

    by The Outlander

It needs to be released on DVD and then given a second season to find its audience. It's a great show.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:32 a.m. CST

    I agree with AxeBox...

    by ShogunMaster

This show is WAY overrated. I keep hearing that Sarah is a great actress and stunningly hot (not true), I hear the Summer Glau is a stunner as well (nope), and throwing in BAG as Reece's brother?! I really wish this show was better, but it's not. If we weren't dealing with a crap season of reality TV and Reruns, it wouldn't have gotten past the pilot. <b> BTW, I also agree with LordPorkington: Errockk sucks cock and 'First'ers must die!

  • March 3, 2008, 12:38 a.m. CST

I've been watching the whole way through

    by dgcrawford

and I can honestly say it has been solidly entertaining. It's not LOST or BSG, but its up there in Heroes territory, though it doesn't have the highs and lows that Heroes has experienced. But with this you know you're going to get a solidly entertaining hour out of it every week.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:39 a.m. CST

Oh, and it deserves a weekly talkback if it is renewed.

2 best shows on TV for me at least. Dont kill Terminator, FOX! Come on.

why has this show been ignored by a.i.c.n?

    by thedudelar

i've been wondering about the lack of talk backs with this show. i was beginning to think that i was very much alone in digging this show. sure, it's flawed but it has some serious potential i think.

Don't listen to that asshole. The glory of being First will always outway the risk of being chastised. Don't forget people made mocked the Wright Brothers when they tried to be different as well.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:45 a.m. CST

My favorite new show. Bring on Season 2!!!

    by LoneGun

While I don't think the program is utter brilliance, I do find it immensely entertaining and I love it, warts and all. Lena Headey is a great, GREAT Sarah Connor, and the kid is the best John Connor yet. Summer Glau is terrific as a model of Terminator copying human emotions and quirks, trying them on like pieces of clothing. She seems quite human one moment, then utterly empty and mechanical the next. I really want to see THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES continue. I don't care as much about the upcoming films.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:47 a.m. CST

    Let's all be reasonable

    by waggy

The show is clearly not gonna take the title of "best show on tv" when The Wire ends next week, but it's also not the worst thing on tv by any stretch of the imagination. It's solid entertainment that's better than T3 but not as good as T1 or T2. The mere fact that i'm watching a show on Fox (a first since they cancelled Arrested Development) is a notable achievement for them. And if you don't think Summer Glau is hot, please hand in your heterosexual card.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:50 a.m. CST

This is a really good show!

    by Aloy

I came in with less than zero expectations and envy anyone who has these shows cued up for a power watch. Solid story lines and Summer Glau is cool as a Terminatrix (too funny when they worked her ballet into this though). At this point I would watch this over the current Heroes.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:51 a.m. CST

Took me a while to warm up, but

    by cookepuss

the show is one heck of a ride.<p> <p> It pays a lot of fan service to longtime T1 & T2 fans with inside references to both movies. At times, it tends to forget that its viewers might be tuning in to the Terminator universe for the first time. However, the characterizations are fantastic.<p> <p> Summer Glau's Cameron is equal parts Lt. Data and Arnie. Kinda like a Pinocchio that isn't afraid to kill. Some surprisingly funny stuff being written for her that is actually not as embarrassing as what passed for cyborg humor in T3. You also never fully know if Glau's character is playing things straight or if she's just playing them all for fools, buying time until she whacks 'em.<p> <p> Lena Headey puts her own spin on the Sara Connor character that makes her stand apart from Linda Hamilton. She's a little more feminine/maternal and a little less butch, but you really get the feeling that she can and will kick your ass on the drop of a dime. She feels like Sara Connor without ever stepping on any toes.<p> <p> Thomas Decker's John Connor... I honestly didn't think this kid had it in him. I really didn't. He plays the character as smart, brooding, and mature. He's not the little punk that Furlong played and he's not the washed out scaredy cat that T3's Nick Stahl felt like at times. The show might be called "The Sara Connor Chronicles", but this is as much Decker's show <p> <p> As an ensemble cast, they're just great together. <p> <p> At first, it was a little odd that they conveniently (mostly) ignored T3's existence. However, you can understand why. In T3, there was no real sense that Stahl's John had the balls or know how to fight in and start a resistance movement. Here, you can kinda see him becoming more of the person you'd have expected him to be in T3.<p> <p> I know that continuity buffs will point out plot holes or weak points. However, it is still one of the most enjoyable genre shows on network. Let's face it broadcast network doesn't do genre well, especially action & sci-fi. When they get it right its a rare thing. Enjoy it while its around. With Fox, you never know how long that'll be.<p> <p> I'm actually rooting for a season 2. I read something about Phil Morris of Seinfeld & Smallville notoriety being in talks to somehow bring Miles Dyson back from the dead. If they can pull that off without negating T2 I'll be thoroughly impressed.<p> <p> Again, this is Fox. You never know what the future holds. They screwed over Dark Angel, Millenium, Strange Luck, Firefly, John Doe, and tons of other promising and entertaining genre shows. I'm hopeful that they'll renew it, but not expecting them to.

  • March 3, 2008, 12:55 a.m. CST

It's a good show.. not great, but good... Lots of promise, and better than much of the crap on tv. Certainly worth another season.

FACT 1: It's way better than BIONIC WOMAN

    by nopix

FACT 2: DEXTER ownz Sarah Connor's ass. FACT 3: THE SHIELD just fucking ownz. And will likely have a beautiful final season.

rsanta74, I like what you say...

    by LoneGun

...especially in regards to Lena Headey. The single most accomplished thing about SCC may be how easily Headey has made us believe in her as Sarah Connor. She's swiftly made the role her own, while honoring the memory of Linda Hamilton. She's a very strong protagonist, and I've got to say, I love it when she kicks ass on the show.

  • March 3, 2008, 1:09 a.m. CST

    Show's true to T & T2

    by Vigilant

It has the spirit of the movies. This is done by rehashing most of the dialog for said movies. But I rather the frequent nods back than forgetting they existed.

    Continuity error from Terminator 1...

    by Executor

It's been a while since I saw it, so correct me if I'm wrong. But in the first Terminator, Sarah asks Reese why they just don't kill Connor in Reese's present-day-future, instead of sending Arnold back in time to kill John. Reese says that the war is over, the machines lost, so killing him then wouldn't have made a difference.<p> Now on the TV show, we've seen the future time period AFTER Reese travels back in time...and the machines are still very much in control. <p>Doesn't make sense.

    C'mon, least give it a Season 2...

    by Kasch

With T4 in development, Fox would be crazy to pull the plug when their next season could ride the hype train for the next movie. Plus with a season's worth of set-up storylines out of the way, this show could easily explode into one of the best serials since Lost.

  • March 3, 2008, 1:56 a.m. CST

    by slkboxrman

i hate to be the one that says this , but the original timeline that kyle reese travelled from was changed to a certain degree by the terminators from one and two going back in time and messing up the timeline..the way things originally happened never happened...its true that judgement day is inevitable but things beyond judgement day are playing out a lil different......but overall its a great show....i like how theyre actively changing the future, so sarah may not die of cancer now that shes aware of it, and the countless terminators and resistance fighters going back in time has to be changing things too...i just wonder which model cameron is.... i like how they referenced the triple 8 model...and i stilll wonder camerons plan for the chip that she discreetly pocketed.

  • March 3, 2008, 1:56 a.m. CST

    by Fievel

Brian Austin Green actually works for me as Kyle Reese's brother. I would have bet the farm that I'd hate him, but he's doing a great job. The show is great. So many T1 & T2 references. I seriously hope it comes back.

  • March 3, 2008, 1:56 a.m. CST

This and LOST = Best shows on Network TV

    by theoyboy

This show has tons of promise and I believe a full order of episodes (20 or so) for a second season could really ramp things up another notch in the mythos. And with T4 coming out in 2009, a new season could really be big in the ratings if they advertise it right. No way FOX passes renewing this for a second year.

  • March 3, 2008, 2:01 a.m. CST

Heroes and Jericho put me to sleep, but this show is fun. Not better than 24 though.

  • March 3, 2008, 2:11 a.m. CST

I was hooked after episode 3! Great show!

    by smellmycheese

The computer that could play chess, the early robotic AI thing at the science fair, the ballet scene at the end of last weeks episode and that horrendous creature sitting in the tub at the end of episode 3. It philosophically shows us the similarities between man and machine, the grey areas between the light and the dark, and the greatness that man could achieve if only he wasn't so destructive. It's what ST:TNG would be if Data was a Cylon, it's BSG set on modern Earth. This show is fucking great.<br><br>It's had a strong, solid start, largely ignores the shitfest that was T3 (that film was truly dreadful) and is by and large completely faithful to T1 and T2, with a few nice nods thrown in too.<br><br>With BSG coming to an end, Prison Break over (for now at least), Heroes lacking, 4400 cancelled, and Lost drawing to a close with shorter seasons, I NEED a new, GOOD sci-fi show that I can tune in to and enjoy! Terminator:TSCC definitely shows that potential if given the opportunity and space to bloom. Ignore the declarations of the female cast being hot - I can't say they are but they're neither unattractive nor bad actresses. In fact, the entire cast is strong, the writing is strong, as is the production. The show is quite simply finding its feet during its early days (as most good shows do) and considering it's a TV spinoff from a legendary movie that was made 24 years ago it's doing pretty well to impress. I sincerely hope it gets a second season because it's showing a lot of potential and deserves the chance to expand.

Terminator is what Bionic Woman couldn't figure out

Bionic Woman was a lame show that tried to appeal to everyone. This show just concentrates on it's storyline, and forgets about trying to appeal to everyone.

My friends and I are all hooked

by Just another useless chump with a microphone

We're all in our late 20's, early 30's, and for most of us, T2 was one of our first real "R" movies as kids. This show REALLY honors T1 and T2, while expanding on the universe. I saw the leaked pilot back in September and was thoroughly unimpressed, but I have to admit it's grabbed me by the balls. It's the only show that I WILL NOT MISS. Anything else, I'll download and watch at my leisure...this one, my friends and I will actually gather at someone's house to watch and talk about. I think one of the best things about it is the fact that this show is constantly moving. A lot of hourlong dramas, particularly sci-fi, like to spend their first season establishing their mythos, and then just spinning their wheels. Terminator: TSCC has changed in every episode. Characters have been brought in, characters have died, characters have grown. I honestly thought the FBI Agent would be a pretty static character, but he's ALREADY starting to believe the Connors about the coming future. I didn't see that coming so early. The acting in this show is pretty top-notch too. Maybe I had low expectations, but I've been impressed in every episode. Summer Glau could easily have phoned in her performance as an emotionless killing machine, but she doesn't. She is oddly emotive, and you can see her robot brain learning and digesting. As said before, Lena Headey and Thomas Decker handle their roles brilliantly as the Connors. And you know, when Brian Austin Green was cast, I groaned and rolled my eyes. But damned if he isn't taking this role seriously, and doing a fucking good job of it. I never, EVER thought I'd be able to take him seriously, but he's doing a damn good job (and who knew he'd grow up to look just like a scruffy Vince Vaughn?). I really, really hope that this gets renewed for a second season, if only because I want to see where they go with it. I like the idea that things in the past can change SOME things in the future, like pushing back Judgement Day, but it's still GOING to happen at some point. I have been really surprised at how much I like this show. I hope that there will be more.

This show sucks. Sorry. It does.

    by Ash Talon

People just like cheese, I supppose. I've only watched the first 3 or so episodes and found it boring and almost nonsensical. Several plot points are downright retarded. Terrible dialogue as well. Regarding Headey as Connor? She's awful. She can't emote or act tough. You can't possibly believe this is the same character from Terminator 1 or 2. She's way too soft and didn't even get in shape for the role. She has no muscle tone. She wouldn't be able to kick my ass if both of my arms were tied behind my back. In fact, I dare her to try.

  • March 3, 2008, 2:31 a.m. CST

What's funny is that I thought

    by cookepuss

Brian Austen Green was going to be bad. He's actually not. I'm not gonna marry him off to my sister or anything, but he's not a scene killer. That distinction is reserved for the FBI guy right now. <p> <p> I also love the recasting of Bruce Davison as the doctor from T1 & T2. Genius casting actually. <p> <p> Hands down, the best thing about this show is that they're not afraid to show the future. T2 & T3 shyed away from it. TSSC goes back to T1 and actually shows you a world at war with the machines. Any scene in the future is just pure gold here. <p> <p> BTW, anybody who disses Ted McGinley is gonna have to fight me. Well, Harry first and then me. Oh. Forgot about the TMG fan club. Okay. Anybody who disses Ted McGinley has to fight the TMG Fan Club then Harry and THEN me. Hmm... I think my brother Joe likes him even more than the fan club. Okay Joe then TMG then Harry. I'll kick the crap out of anybody left, provided I have time and can do some stretches first. =)

yeah, it's better than Prison Break

    by newc0253

but then nearly anything is better than that mouth-breathing show.<p> I've only seen two eps of The Sarah Connor Chronicles: the pluses? Summer Glau, the action, Summer Glau, writing that isn't completely terrible, Summar Glau, the music, Summer Glau, some of the ideas, Leana Heady is easy on the eyes, Summer Glau.<p> the minuses? Leana Heady might be a good actress but her character has only a three-note range: angry, angrier and concerned; the writing isn't completely terrible but it isn't all there yet. There are good moments, though, and glimmers of increasing cleverness so i'm gonna keep watching for the time being.

    by Retlaw Kciuq

Herc, but I know for a fact it's one of the best genre series to come around in a long time, and it's much better than Buffy. Then again, a lot of the shows you parade on here praising aren't worthy of the praise at all. So maybe I will like this show. Maybe, maybe not. Can't hurt.

Better than T1 or T2, no and no, better than T3, yes. Better than Prison break and Supernatural, most definitely, better than Dexter certainly not. I've been enjoying it though, it deserves to stay around as long as they keep it relatively sensible, it should only be around for 2-3 seasons max as it will quickly get silly if everytime a certain problem (evil terminator shinnanigans) is overcome they simply say 'oh, and then they sent another one back...'

    by optimus grime

I didn't much like the first three episodes, partly because it was hard to accept the new actors and situations as really being Terminator that we know and love, and it seemed like it was spinning off into a boring and repetitive chase movie. But after it established its parameters, and you accept the new incarnation as more than the fan-fiction T3 was, it really grips you and adds a lot to the canon. At first it seemed to be rehashing the themes of T2, but now it's building on them, especially the mother/son relationship and the transformation from kid to general. At first it seems kind of ridiculous that SO DANG MANY terminators and resistance fighters were sent back through time, but once you kind of accept that's where they're going with it, I like the little world they're creating with it. And I agree that the Dungeons and Dragons episode, which takes us to the future war, is the best so far. Bring on more!

Not Yet Great, But Very Good...

    by BigCoffinHunter

Of course the show is not as good as the first two movies, but I can't understand why Fox would even think of not coming back with a 2nd season. Please do the right thing Fox and sign it up for a second run.

  • March 3, 2008, 6:20 a.m. CST

    by Alientoast

Fox recently changed the commercials from "season finale" to "cliffhanger season finale". That notes a possible renewal. Plus I've heard the show has been pulling 24-style ratings in it's timeslot. I think the show is safe. PS: Herc, I find it ironic you lavish a little praise on Dexter yet YOU NEVER POSTED A DAMNED TALKBACK FOR IT.

    Timeline note

    by MrD

T2 is the first in the series to screw up the time. T1 was set in 1983/84, which means that John should have been under 10 at the time of T2, which he clearly was not. John is supposed to be 15 at the start of T:TSCC in 1999 (in which case the actor is woefully miscast as he can't pass for under 17).

It has a lot of action....

    by Mr. Profit

Especially for a TV show, it consistantly provides action on a weekly basis. And that's what I fear will ship the show off to cancellationville. I bet Fox will bitch about the show being too expensive to produce. But I think its a good, well done show. So what if it aint T1 or T2, for a TV show it delivers. I'll be upset to see it go.

  • March 3, 2008, 8:08 a.m. CST

    Timeline is mostly correct

    by Anakin Whoopass

T1 was May 1984 (the cop Reese took the gun from said May), so John Connor was born in February 1985. John was 12 in T2 and it was set in 1997. Judgment Day was to be later that year, explaining Sarah's urgency. John would be 14 in 1999 but would have turned 15 during the school year that was starting in the pilot.

    Brian Austin Green

    by Mr. Profit

I was weary when I saw his name in the credits, but he is really working hard to get rid of his 90210 past. It's funny how he gets a lot of bullshit, yet other actors who appeared on crapfest TV shows back in the day don't get any hate. The guy does a good job on the show, and his "Lost" like Flashback episode was a highlight. And he also get's to bang Meagan Fox, so I guess he really doesn't care what some stupid talkbackers think about him.

  • March 3, 2008, 8:20 a.m. CST

I think the show started slow and weak...

    by BizarroJerry

But it's picked up momentum and gotten increasingly better. The flash forwards to the future and movie connections have made it better. Last episodes references to the events in T2 as some sort of religious experience were very cool. Makes sense that some one would go nutty after witnessing that. "He was like Mercury..." or whatever. Great stuff. Even though Davison in no way resembles the original actor.

I really hope TERMINATOR: TSCC gets renewed for Season 2

    by SpyGuy

    by Anakin Whoopass

No way I'm buying he was supposed to be 10. T3 said John was making out with Kate Brewster after school just before the events of T2, which would call for more hormones. By mentioning Sarah's cancer TSSC validated T3's timeline would have happened if not for the cyborgs that went back to 1999.

    by Nesstar

There's a major quandry in the fact that John Connor even exists. You talk about justifying timelines, etc. If the machines never rise up, then they never create the time machine. If they never create the time machine then John's daddy would have never come back in time and porked John's mommy. So for his own sake, John had better hope he never stops the machines, or he'll disappear in a *POOF* into obscurity.

It's better than Heroes, that's for sure. The only complaint I have is that as a person who has only seen Terminator and T2 once when they came out years ago, the future war episode was very confusing. for making fun of this show. I'm sorry but I think it keeps true to the movies for the most part, including all the cheesy voiceovers. If you loved the movies, then this show is about as good. As for me its decently entertaining enough and Lena Headey sells the role of a mother/fighter better than the original. Linda Hamilton was good but she's not exactly queen of subtlety.

I really hope it does get a second season. It had a shit first episode and a bit of a slow start with all that Turk business but it's been pure gold the past few weeks. I really want to know what Skynet's up to, it's clearly got some weird shit going on in the future with those people it was experimenting on.<br><br> Also, the scenes where that endoskeleton was going around in a ski mask looking to grow new skin were really creepy. It's the first time the Terminators have been really scary since T1 I thought.

To that Ash guy...they obviously had to soften the Sarah Connor's character a bit for people to be able to handle her week after week. I agree she's totally less gritty than in the movies. But hours and hours of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor would have been painful. I like her in other stuff, just couldn't stand her over the top screaming in the T movies. Lena heady in that way is better. She's still a bit awkward with the American accent though which is a shame. I could go for another season.

Rules of time travel? What is that shit?

    by I Dunno

Did Jebus come down and clue us all in about the rules of time travel? Because I never saw them. Terminator seems to suscribe to the "Back to the Future" rules of time travel. Whenever something is changed, a new timeline is created. So SkyNet could theoretically be eliminated and whatever terminators are her are safe in this timeline because it's a different timeline. <p> Who cares, Summer Glau is hot. </p><p>One encouraging thing is that the big ass LED billboard has an advertisement for Terminator on it. If Fox put up the green for that, they might be considering not canceling it.</p>

I'm with other people who watched this show until BAG showed up as Reese's brother. Fucking 90210's Brian Austin Green as legendary badass Reese's brother? Terrible, terrible casting. Whenever he comes on screen, I think, "That's the guy from 90210." Then I suddenly can't take what I'm watching seriously. Other people might be able to overlook Derek Reese, but I can't. 90210 and Terminators don't mix. Ever. This is why Richard Kelly and Tony Scott skewered them as pansies in "Domino." There's a reason BAG is the definition of typecast.<p> It's sad, really. I really enjoyed the first several episodes. The plot moved, I liked Lena Headey as Sarah, believed the kid playing John, and the action was balls out. There were a few plot contrivances I was willing to overlook for what I think was good writing, but then Derek showed up and I couldn't take the show seriously anymore. I still can't. Which for a story of this hallowed magnitude kills it dead.<p> Someone let me know when Derek dies and maybe I'll come back and watch.

SCC sets the events of T2 in 1997

    by performingmonkey

If you've actually watched the episodes you'll know that they keep mentioning Sarah's breakout, Dyson being killed, i.e. the events of T2, as happening in 1997, making John 13 at the time (which is realistically how it should have been all along). It should be taken as canon that T2 was set in 1997, even though T2 itself doesn't follow that line. Funnily enough it's JAMES CAMERON that fucked everything up! No-one else is to blame!!! He should have changed the dates around when they cast a 13-year-old as John.

    Is Cameron Skynet ?

    by siatrisx

I agree with veritasses and I'm afraid johnnyjlawless might be right. I'm a big fan of Lost so all other shows suffer in comparison. But Terminator SSC is fun. You have to get past the first 3 episodes, it does pick up. For example, the FBI agent seem useless, or just an excuse to add a CSI element to the show, but in the last episode his role is becoming justified. Also, I was wandering WTF with Cameron dancing ballet in the last episode, but what if SHE was Skynet ? I mean, they kill everybody or destroy everything that might build Skynet, and we know it gets built anyways, and John spoke of the singularity (when a machine becomes aware), so what if Cameron developed awareness and was the one who builds Skynet or wipes out humanity? Or, that her mission was to try and understand humans in order to convince Skynet or the machines to not nuke humanity? Any theories ?

    This show isn't bad.

    by I Hope You Die

After the pilot, which was truly awful and had no redeeming qualities, they made some changes and got the show on track. It's better than Prison Break; but then absolutely everything is better than Prison Break. They reenacted some scenes from Terminator 2 last episode that proved that this Sarah Connor doesn't have the acting abilities of Linda Hamilton, but she's okay. The kid who plays John Connor might as well just not be in the show. Summer Glau's face is distractingly misshapen but she manages to walk around and stare at things as well as she needs to. The action rarely tries to overstep the budget and remains convincing. It's watchable; much better than the pilot would have led me to believe. I think it's worth another season.

Took me awhile to warm to it

    by allykatD

but I'm glad I gave the show a chance. Now I'm hooked. If you're a fan of the Terminator and of the sci-fi genre, you owe it to yourself and the genre to give this show a try, or a second try if you've watched it and wasn't hooked. I say this because watching something once and blowing it off sends a bad signal that sci-fi shows aren't worth producing. I want more good sci-fi shows, not less, so lets try and support those that are on. I'm not saying watch something that you find completely unwatchable trash (like Knight Rider 2008) but give a show a seconde or third try before entirely writing it off.

    by GreatCzarsGhost

I was expecting some lame attempt to do something vaguely Terminator-isk to milk what's left of the name (in other words, a regular Fox series) but was very surprised to find a very good Terminator television show. They have paid a lot of attention to what has come before and I get the feeling the people doing the show really like what they are doing. It looks like they are moving in a direction that might start asking what is the difference between the humans and the Robots. The last seen of last Mondays show had Cameron doing some ballet dancing. Is she starting to wonder what it is to be human? Do we have some Data/Next Gen or BG Human/Cylon stuff going on here? This could be very interesting if so and this them is carried into the next Terminator films.

I've been wondering the same thing, there's definitely something funny about her and the blue eyes obviously suggest she's a different model to the T-888s. They seem to be building on this idea that re-programmed Terminators can just suddenly go bad, maybe the re-programmed Terminators follow the same growth pattern as Skynet, they eventually become self-aware and conclude that humanity must die.<br><br> I'd be interested to know what the difference is between a T-800 and a T-888 too....

    The Wire and The Shield

    by TheLastCleric

I think these two shows are on a pretty even keel in terms of quality. The Shield is a bit more extreme but overall I think both deserve the copious amounts of love they get from their respective fan bases. I’m behind on the Wire and need to catch up all the while I’m chomping my fingernails in anticipation of the final season of The Shield, which may be delayed until the fall. As to SCC, it’s a good show and despite the knee-jerk reaction by some, Brian Austin Green does a solid job as Kyle’s brother. That said, this show is nowhere near the same level as DEXTER.

    by allykatD

How can you be still after a guy for a role he played 10 years ago? Get over it. Brian Austen Green is very convincing in his role of Kyle's brother. He's adding some layers to the story since he doesn't know that John is Kyle's son.

    RE: Sarah's psych evaluation scene

    by digitalcos

This scene has been mentioned a few times now as an example of bad acting on Headey's part. I have to disagree.<p>Oh, I do agree that the scene didn't quite work, but I don't blame Headey for that. I blame the director. The blocking was awkward, and it was shot poorly, too wide and stiff. Just poorly staged all around. Headey's performance was fine.

    I don't envy Lena Headey

    by drewlicious

As much as I like the show you have to admit she has pretty big shoes to fill. The role Linda Hamilton got was a character that scared the hell out of me sometimes. Not only was she built like a brick shithouse she wasn't the type who flinch over killing a computer programmer. Lena does have more going on in the looks department, though and the fact that she plays the role more feminine makes it easier to empathize with her which is necessary since we're investing hours of our time here.

I wonder if that subject head got cut off? Anyway, maybe not the best addition to the Terminator mythos, but its interesting enough and has enough cool little moments (like when the Army/Merc Terminator - new models called the T-888- simply shut down and went into standby moment to wait for judgement day) that you'll dig on it. Just try to get past the fact that its completely different actors, and Terminator 3 didn't happen, and you'll roll with it.

    Leave T1 and T2 Alone

    by bobinnova

The series is just okay for network television (how I wished it was on cable to get full frontal nudity of Lena and Summer during the time travel sequence - maybe on the DVD?) But leave the T1 and T2 alone on the show. I could handle Thomas Dekker as John as he looks the part, and after a few episodes could even handle Lena as Sarah, until they threw in the flashback to T2 in the hospital - there was really no point to showing that - that was Linda Hamilton's role and they shouldn't be duplicating it. Why couldn't you bring Earl Boen (the original Dr. Silberman in T1-3) to re-create his part? It's not like he's hurting for work these days doing Kim Possible voice work. And how cool would it have been to have Michael Biehn do a brief cameo of Kyle Reese? If they are going to do a Season 2, have it lead up to the T4 movie where the series ends with a nuke detonation. Maybe even have a countdown clock running on the lower corner of screen counting down the days, hours, and minutes until the machines take over.

  • March 3, 2008, 1:47 p.m. CST

Also, we need season 2 so John Will Fuck The Terminator

    by TallBoy66

He has to do it because they wouldn't build up all that sexual tension between Connor and Cameron without the eventual release. Pun intended. Thats way it adds a really fucked up dimension to John's eventual quest to destory the machines ... because they took his innocence!!! He's just getting back at Cameron for being his First, over and over. How crazy is that?

"Some to kill him, one to protect him"

    by redfang

Skynet *knows* that its creation is part of a temporal loop. It may even have known so from the start, and that's *why* it sent Arnie back in the first place (and maybe "let" Connor send Reese back as well; note that we were told that Connor couldn't have captured the Skynet time machine without help from the "reprogrammed" terminators). Whether or not Skynet originally knew that John Connor was essential to its creation, it knows it "now" (whatever that means in this context). Cameron is protecting John Conner.... but on Skynet's behalf, to ensure that the time loop remains unbroken. It's all there in plain sight. Look at the series' opening narration, and note the first pronoun in the second sentence: "In the future, my son will lead mankind in a war against Skynet, the computer system programmed to destroy the world. *It* has sent machines back through time, some to kill him, one to protect him. Today we fight to stop Skynet from ever being created. To change our future, to change his fate. The war to save mankind begins now."

    Dumb, but fun

    by Dangerousapple

This show is oddly entertaining, despite it's many flaws. For one thing, it's pretty dumb with some glaring mistakes. It's not TRANSFORMERS dumb mind you (which I swear knocked off a few points from my IQ through it's sheer stupidity). Let's look at SOME of the most obvious mistakes. For instance, the head trough the time portal. SEVERAL mistakes here. How did the metal head pass through with no skin on it?? T1 stated that Terminators can pass the portal only because of their organic skin , this blatently contradicts that rule (which already made no sense to begin with). Also, how does the body find the head? How does it see with no eyes? And even more important, how can it function without a chip? Removing the chip from the head will deactivate a terminator, but removing an entire head does not? Stupid. And what about the skin bath. The show states that lying in a chemical solution combined with blood will make skin grow on metal. Several problems here. How does the skin form in such a way that it neatly covers the endoskelaton in a very human looking way? And how does the cartilage from to make up ears and the nose? But still, a lot of fun.

    Dangerousapple: responses to "dumb" charge

    by Le Vicious Fishus

    1. the skull through the portal problem could be explained by the skin melting off the exoskeleton skull in transit. Still, they should've SHOWN that (even though it'd be fairly gruesome for prime time).<BR><BR>2. How does the body find the head? T1 established body parts moving independently of the head when ripped apart. It's not way out there either. There could be a bit of homing hardware built into various parts of the exoskeleton which could seek the active head (in reasonable proximity). There could also be low functioning, emergency "eyes" built into various locations in the chassis for such an emergency situation. In any case, wireless functionality making the body move independently of the head is not at all far fetched.<BR><BR>3. "Removing the chip from the head will deactivate a terminator, but removing an entire head does not?" Again, rewatch T1. These machines are designed to be very difficult to destroy. The head and body could easily have back up power sources. The head, of course, contains the microchip "brain" so it stands to reason that once that chip was destroyed (or removed) the whole unit would deactivate.<BR><BR>4. The skin bath. You've got me there and are completely right about cartilage. Since most of the rebuilding took place off-camera, though, (and since we're swallowing some pretty far-fetched concepts anyway due to the very nature of the original plot) I was able to suspend my disbelief pretty easily. <BR><BR>So, sure, there are some logistical difficulties and inconsistencies, but no more than the average sci-fi/fantasy tv show (don't even get me started on HEROES). From a plot/character growth and basic writing perspective, any niggling problems notwithstanding, the last few episodes have been executed superbly. The writing the last couple of episodes has been, imo, close to top notch.

    Termiplot Holes

    by Alientoast

Well the Terminator mythology has lots of plot holes. Like the living exactly does the living tissue get the nourishment it needs to remain living? Cameron seems to kind of solve this, by virtue of the fact she can eat. But none of the other ones can eat, so far as we have seen.

    RE: Le Vicious Fishus

    by Dangerousapple

Regarding point 1 about the skull, since they show no skin - I operate from a no skin hypothasis. And while your explaination fits, I don't get the feeling that's how the writers intended it. It's a major oversight, plain and simple. You points under (2) are all valid. However, the Terminator POV is a Termintar staple that has been used in every iteration. We heve never seen a POV from a point other than the eyes, and are shown repeatedly damaging the eyes (or head) disrupts the Terminator POV. I can get behind your reasoning behind (3) as a satysfying solution (but again, I have the nagging feeling this is another oversight by the writers). But at the end of the day, like you, I very much enjoy the show and look forward to watching it every week. 'Terminator' is an entarintaining franchise and so far this is a pretty decent addition with a lot of potential to grow and improve.

    Dangerousapple--an answer from Josh Friedman!

    by Le Vicious Fishus

Well stated, sir. Well stated, indeed. <BR><BR>"How did the terminator head travel through time? <BR><BR> According to creator and executive producer Josh Friedman, there is still flesh (at the time burning from the effects of the plasma weapon) on Cromartie's head when it enters the portal. This allows it to time travel. The flesh is completely consumed when the Cromartie's head exits the portal, thus leaving only a metallic skull. <BR><BR> His words: 'When Cromarties head goes through the time bubble, THERE IS FLESH ON IT. If you cant see it, thats because a) its burning off very quickly and b) certain people dont like it when we show burning flesh, cyborg or not.'"<BR><BR>All that quoted from Y'know, I posited this myself, but I gotta admit that it is not an altogether satisfactory response (and may well have been a cover story after they let a big mistake slip through their fingers). For one thing, if the "didn't want to show that gruesome an image" rationale holds, why do they keep showing the clip from Sarah's nightmare (in the pilot's opening) in which the nuclear blast strips the flesh from a terminator's entire body? That stated, at least they have a position (and the writing and missteps in the last half of the tiny season has been FAR superior to the first half).

Season 2 of Dexter was pretty bad

    by punto

compared with the first one. Still pretty watchable, which is what Terminator is. You can tell they've had some really bad scripts, and some really low budget episodes.. But still they've managed to keep it interesting, unlike Bionic Woman (which had a similar hype when it launched). And they have _no idea_ of what to do with the Cameron character. <p> Also, the first thing I though when I learned who was playing the female terminator was "I wonder how long it will take them to come up with an excuse to make her dance". It was pretty weak, Firefly was a lot better.

    by Le Vicious Fishus

That was an example of simply innovative (and strong) writing, directing and performing. I love the counterpoint between Cameron's cold diss of the chess master and his sister and Sarah's unwillingness to let a potential enemy suffer and die. "John recovering from a fractured pelvis."

    by TallBoy66

That's be an amazing Season 3 arc. After finally sealing the deal with the Terminator, John spends the first 10 episodes sitting in bed, avoiding awkward silences with Cameron (who still has a habbit of walking around in her underwear) while his mom feeds him chicken soup, bitching him out all the while, and BAG spends most of the time yelling about "how she's a machine and you can't trust her!" Turns out John can't trust her. And the reason Cameron is different is because she can get pregnant. Season 4: Lil' Terminator Babies Save the World!!

    Time portals..

    by SlickyVonBoner

The whole flesh-covered-metal-only through the time portal thing was shot to hell in T2. Because that T-1000 was all liquid metal, with no skin. My logic is that the machines upgraded their time-machines so that all-metal can pass through, but the resistance is using an older stolen one. which works fine for them, as they are all flesh anyways. I did enjoy something I saw in one of the Terminator comic books where three terminators were heading back in time and kill some human and stuffed some futuristic weapons in the corpse so that it would pass through the time-portal. I always thought that was clever.

    by My Pretty Pony

The show has only gotten better and better. BAG is doing an awesome job and his character has only added to the show. I also think they've done a great job of honoring the movies (not the crappy third one). At first, I thought the actress playing Sarah was pretty dull, but her acting has improved quite a bit. I have to agree with the poster who mentioned that ballet scene at the end of last week's ep. That was a perfect example of the potential this show has. It is definitely the opposite of what they did w/ that terrible Bionic Woman remake. SCC deserves a second season. Couldn't FOX do something right, for once??

    1) I think Agent Ellison is a prime player in the creation of Skynet. There's no other explanation why Cromite or w/e didn't shoot him after he destroyed that FBI taskforce. 2) John never told anyone Kyle was his dad. Little kid Kyle is in the same town. Bad mojo? If people found out, he could be a target. 3) I think EMT guy's wife is a Terminator even more now. She has to be. 4) My most wacked out theory: Cameron is the Avatar of Skynet more or less...but a version that wants to become human, to have a soul. This would help explain why she seems to have her own agenda. We already know there is a connection between Cameron and that future war episode, where Derek goes into the basement and that music is playing that is identical to the music Cameron is dancing to a couple episodes back. I have a feeling we will see a link between these two later on.

    They better not cancel

    by Dashl

Really great episodes tonight. I just wish I had faith in FOX. They come up with really great shows (Firefly for example) then cancel it without a second thought. I just hope that this comes back, since unlike other shows FOX has on then cancels, it made it past two episodes.

i'd hate for this to turn into the "Rescue John Because He's Acting Out Again" Show, but so far, this series is engaging me more than Lost (which i continually feel c--kteased by, but watch anyway). the Terminator stories are starting to unfold nicely. Summer Glau is way better than i expected. i lurv that she is a robot. cyborg, whatever. she's a fairly sleek design. Chronicles gets bonus points for bloody goo-blood squish-foley gross-out factor. bloody hulky robot kill now! Renew it, Fox!

    Bring on Season #2

    by J Migidy

When I first heard the concept for the show I was a skeptic. I figured it was a bad idea but a combination of nothing good on TV and my fondness of the original Terminator and T2 movies made me check it out. Every Episode of this gamble of a show had me excited for the next one. I needed to know what happened next. The 2 hour season ending episode was no different. This show works for many reasons. The time line is no longer a set limitation due to the events in Terminator 2 and they have been able to pull off some really fun things. John's future freedom fighter father dies before John is born in the original movie. John being able to see his father for the first time as a little boy playing baseball in a park years before the bombs drop was a mind fuck and a half and I loved it. Watching John grow up dealing with the knowledge of what he might have to become in order for humanity to have hope all while living with family members from different time periods is great as well. But lets face it. The single coolest part of this show is Cameron. The super advanced Terminator chick sent back to protect John. She's super cute and super bad ass! Seeing her interact with John is great. She is learning how to be more human and you sense John's attachment to the machine grow in every episode. Never was this more evident than in the last episode when John has to cut her open and take her chip out to complete an important task. Right before he brings her back online you got a real sense of where this could go. I think that John's machine hating uncle from the future might even warm up to her. If she survives the car bomb which left us hanging in the end that is. She is a key part of this show and I hope they bring it and her back so the story can continue and our questions can be answered!!!! I hope someone at FOX reads these things!!!!

    by kesoze4

I already said I kept watching it hoping a T-1000 would show up. Which it didn't to my disappointment. Even Robert Patrick would have ruled, but no. "you realize that Joss Whedon's best show was on Fox? you might have heared of it, Firefly?" And they cancelled it. This show has huge potential, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and help rattle off the top of my head just a few shows out in the past few years that are infinitely more clever and engaging than this pile of terribly paced, terribly acted, unoriginal, mindless DRECK: The Wire (HBO), Six Feet Under (HBO), Lost (ABC), Battlestar Galactica (Sci-Fi), Firefly (Fox), South Park (Comedy Central), The Sopranos (HBO), The Shield (F/X), Rome (HBO), Buffy The Vampire Slayer (various), Weeds (Showtime), Journeyman (NBC), Rescue Me (F/X), The Office (NBC), Entourage (HBO), Arrested Development (Fox), Family Guy (Fox), How I Met Your Mother (CBS), Veronica Mars (WB), The Simpsons (Fox), Life (NBC), Californication (Showtime), Flight of the Conchords (HBO). Just because you all have the creative curiosity of wheat germ doesn't make the waste of huge potential that was this show any easier to deal with.

    Happy Birthday John

    by J Migidy

I just wanted to agree with everyone who liked the Birthday scene in the season finale. It was some damn good writing indeed. John's future uncle taking John to a park to show him a younger version of himself playing with his younger brother (John's dad who he never saw since he died before he was born) was great. This show is good and makes me wish that T3 was never made.

First ever post: Love this show...

    by Zedul

Very few shows on TV I have loved this much: B5, Lost, Firefly and BSG - this show for me was right up there. It actually prompted me to post for the first time in the 10 years I have been hanging around this site. I actually wrote Herc about this show - I like every character especially Cameron (Summer Glau!) As much as I liked Pushing Daisies and Life... I would trade their souls for this show next season in a Heartbeat.

  • March 3, 2008, 10:15 p.m. CST

    Herc, don't do it

    by kesoze4

Unless I'm mistaken, you have yet to begin watching this show. Man you don't know me from adam, but I know you've got taste... the shows you review have led me to discover some of my favorite TV moments ever. Above I listed just a few of them. But listen to me now when I tell you: you're going to watch those recorded episodes of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and among two or three glimmers of potential you are going to be hugely bored and vastly disappointed. Go ahead, watch away, but prepare yourself for something that makes the worst season of 24 look like Lay Down Your Burders, Pt. 2. And I hate 24 too. Jack hanging from a rope flying away from the derrick my ass. Summer Glau, find yourself a worthy show. Please.

The script bothers me sometimes, John does too many obviously dumb things and Sarah needs to be more ruthless, but it's a solid well made show with plenty of action. Cameron is wonderfully ruthless, leaving those two Russians to die was spot on.

good show but finale was a letdown

    by Mazzle

I've really enjoyed the show, but that finale was a real let down.<br> - Having a buildup for a big fight but just showing a bunch of guys falling into the water was anticlimactic. I know they don't have a huge movie budget, but that felt too obvious and compromising.<br> <br> - Was that end supposed to be a cliffhanger? If so, that was retarded. The show has made a big deal about how they need special chemicals to get super hot temperatures to destroy the terminators. A bomb is clearly not going to kill her. A bomb set by someone who has shown no evidence that she's even a terminator is even less threatening.<br> <br> That said, I hope the show gets renewed. Except for the flash forward to the future stuff and the finale, I think the show has been paced well and quite suspenseful.<br> <br> btw, I think he didn't kill Ellison because he knew that Ellison mission in life has been to find Sarah. That was the clear message with the scene in which he found out that Eliison checked out the Sarah Connor files. He knows that Ellison can be an asset in terms his own primary mission to find Sarah and John. Of course, he wouldn't kill him.

  • March 3, 2008, 10:52 p.m. CST

    by Mazzle

I found the future stuff really shallow. They don't have a big budget, and it really shows in those scenes. They all looked very fake, like something you'd find on an episode of Andromeda or Xena. The characters were one-dimensional and had absolutely no depth. Finally, all of the interesting aspects of the story they were dealing with (stealing the first terminator, reprogramming it, figuring out the time travel stuff) all took place off-screen. They even had a bunch of buildup like they were going to show future John Conner, but all they did was show some cheesy, in the shadows, fleeting shot of the back of his head. It was underwhelming to say the least.<br> <br> I did like the finale, but I was expecting a lot more. I didn't find it anywhere as near as exciting as other episodes, though it did have its moments. That said, I really do hope the show comes back. I've really enjoyed it overall.

    by grendel824

I started with low expectations, but the show kept getting better and better. I can understand some people not liking it, but I'm sick of the really idiotic "criticisms," like continuity being violated (the head through the portal) when it so clearly isn't. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence could figure it out, so consider the source when somebody disses the show. It's no Lost or anything, but at the rate it's improving I can no longer rule out the possibility...

I mean, if you're a Time Traveler on the run, and you can do the job cheap, why drop thirty bucks on some specialty pliers instead of feeding your long lost uncle the cheap steak that will slow him down enough to save yer mum a piece of ass? Bring back the Glaubot with a nasty comb-over or something, and figure out how to go from there. Please and thank you! Then promise to make the time travel thing dumb enough to allow the haters to wrap their heads around it already! For Real! What are you looking for? It's fucking time travel! It's been getting better and better. The producers aren't afraid of expanding its scope and depth. Watching it, I actually believe anything can happen on it. The show seems willing to upend the status quo, the timestream, and viewer preconceptions with every other episode, which is refreshingly unlike Heroes and Smallville.<br><br> As for those of you complaining you didn't see the gunfight at the end, how many frickin one-sided gunfights do you need to see? I had zero expectations for this show but it's won me over. I'd definitely watch season 2. Love how they play with the mythology with Derrek Reese, etc. Also, I love that it has some of seriously dark imagery. by CrichtonAstronut

I could get just not liking it but there seems to be a lot of anger here, and at it's worst it was still pretty decent and it's a hell of a lot better than it was in the premier. My major problems were Glau was too human in the prermier and the guy playing playing Cromartie in the prenier wasn't creepy enough. And boy did they fix those, Dillahunt awesome. Glau's Camerlon's cool as hell now and, they've expanded the cast and world to more than just Sarah,John and Cameron. I think it's been fgreat and really hope for another season.

Yeah they don't have 'tough guys' in Hollywood anymore because they're all mostly dead. Your idea of a tough guy is antiquated. And how did we all forget that Michael Biehn had one of the girliest voices ever, he was a male model with a sad stubble in T1. But was great in the role. In fact BAG quite nicely fits as his brother.

    It's a Great Show

Outside of the Simpson's, where the quality is plenty spotty, it's the only one I make sure I watch. I'm sorry the season is over. It's a little convoluted--I watch it with my ten year old daughter, and I have to explain a lot about what's going on. But I loved it when BAG was soothing the little girl and then, bam, shot the bad guy in the head. That was so fockin' sweet. Derrek Reese is a great addition. There are lots of little problems and holes, but that's not unusual for a first season, and I've liked each episode better than the previous.<br><br>I think the Cameron-bot is an experiment, a pet project of John's . . . maybe even one he built. It's entirely possibly in the constantly shifting timeline that John Connor has control of a lot more than a band of rebels--he obviously controls a time machine, and was able to have one built in a bank pre-1963, so it's entirely possible future-John controls a whole terminator factory. Additional weapons. Etc. And that Summer Glau is part of an on-going effort of John's to get sentient machine's "right", so we can have a robot-filled future, only they aren't all trying to kill us.<br><br>I would like to see the lack of liquid metal Terminators addressed--for example, they are easily destroyed by napalm or something like that, which is a recipes freedom fighters going back into the past know, so they are fairly simple to take out even in the past if you have "the key"--and it makes sense to numerous advantages of the T-1000s would come with some serious drawbacks, if the weaknesses were known and exploited.<br><br>I love it, and can't wait until next season, BAG and all.

The show didn't become anything special, until...

    by MrGreenStache

... the last episode. I've watched it all since the beginning. I didn't hate it, but it also wasn't a good show. I just had the feeling that the potential was there. Some of that potential was reached last night. Spoiler alert When Derrek took John out for his birthday to see him and his dad playing baseball. Whoa. Way more powerful than I thought this show could get. Also, the Johnny Cash music with all those police getting thrown in the pool was really neat and different than I thought the show would be capable of. /Spoiler alert Anyone think that this show won't get better next season?

    Damned Writer's Strike!

    by SoWasRed2012

When I first heard this show was being produced I'd hoped it was a joke - now I'm more than a little annoyed that there's only nine episodes! Don't get me wrong, I supported the writers but still... I'm allowed to mourn the casualties of war. The birthday scene with Derek and the scene when Derek shoots the guy in the head were both absolutely amazing - it feels good to know that there are guys out there, who aren't Jim Cameron, who can produce entertainment like this that doesn't shit all over what's gone before (hello, T3). Two things though: 1 - the Johnny Cash song, maybe it's just me, but it felt totally out of place for such a serious moment (I know it's a serious song, but it didn't fit) and 2 - The Sarah Connor Chronicles doesn't really seem to fit as a title anymore now that Derek is in the picture and John seems to be stepping up to the plate more and more all the time.

Seriously, <p>That whole Johnny Cash song during the FBI raid was VERY Homocide: Life on the Street. I thought it was an interesting way to do that whole scene but I have to admit that it pulled me out of the show a bit.</p> <p>I have to agree with what others have said. I gave the show a shot and it has been, not spectacular, but pretty good and the finale was a good payoff.</p> <p>Here's hoping that the quality is allowed to continue to improve.</p> <p>MT</p>

    Horrible show...

    by vittala23

Just awful... the main character's are just whine all episode long or if they aren't whining they brood... whats worse is the whole episode will totally suck and then for like 2-3 minutes which is usually the action scene for the episode will be well done. Like last nights where the whole episode was pretty bad up until the 2 minutes of the FBI raiding the apartment with the Johnny Cash song and the pool shot which I thought was great but not great enough to merit sitting through 2 hours of crap.

    When the man comes around!

    by Das UberMan!

Nora Inu got it right. There are problems with the show. It had a very hard time finding its footing, but the last 15 minutes of the show was beyond beautiful. "When the Man Comes Around" was ab-so-lute-ly perfect. Having been raised in the whole apocalypse-is-a-comin' world (just a few miles from Mr. Cash's birthplace), I was stunned. I can't describe for you the fanboy buttons that scene pushed: Terminator, crazy-ass religion, and the Man In Black all in one. As the agents fell in the water, I forgot all my qualms with the show and was almost ready to praise Jee-zus one mo' time.

Since I don't have TIVO or any kind of PVR, I should really wait until shows come out on DVD to see them. For various reasons, I missed large chunks of every episode. When I first heard this was going to be made into a show, I said, "Yeah, whatever." I honestly could not see how it was going to work as a tv series. After watching the whole season, I can say, for me, they made it work. This show rocks! Is it going to appeal to "fanboys"? Sure. But what's wrong with that? I don't dig BSG, or many other cult shows like it. This fills that purpose for me. Lena Heady has fit into the role of Sarah Connor quite nicely, Thomas Dekker is a real find, and Summer Glau is absolutely scrumptious. I even came to like the characters of Ellison and Charlie. And any show that makes Brian Austin Green involving has some serious mojo going for it. This series has much potential, and it would be great to see where it leads.

    Minor scratches?

    by DarthFloyd

An entire SWAT team with semi-auto weapons burst into a one bedroom apt, and besides bodies falling into a pool, Cromartie comes walking out with minor scratches? Even Arnie's T2 version took more damage when he was just walking up to a SWAT team - and was intentionally trying not to kill anyone! Had Cromartie come walking out after SWAT had fallen back with half the skin on his face missing, I could believe that, but minor nicks?

they mention in T2 that he was simply a prototype, so it makes sense that we've never seen others before or after. i guess you could count T3 since she had some liquid metal but this show pretty much ignores that movie so.

Really? I'd argue Arnie didn't look much worse.<p>Besides, if Arnie was trying NOT to kill anyone I'd expect him to be in worse shape than if he was out to kill. When are you going to come out better, if you stand there and get shot at, or kill the shooters. Your argument makes no sense.

Really cool moment: John Connor, on his birthday, watching his dad play baseball as a 5 year old boy. Very cool. Most anti-climactic moment (tie): the showdown with Cromartie and the cops. (we didn't see anything!) And finally, the "cliffhanger" ending: Cameron in an exploding car. Wow. How dull. Like a Terminator is going to be killed by that weak ass explosion? Yawn. Now, if it was JC or SC in the car? THAT'S a cliffhanger. The show wasn't perfect by any means, but it had it's moments. Needs more action and more, well, just MORE!

    Worth Watching

    by _Maltheus_

<p>It's not a great show, but it is watchable. There's a lot of stupidity in it, but the eye-candy that is Summer takes the edge off of that. So far, it's the level of quality I expected after watching the pilot. It has the potential to be much better however. This strike has fucked this season so completely that it's hard to come to any conclusions.</p> <p>Also, what's up with the butterface comments? Her body is a freakin' stick. Her face is the only thing she's really got going (her body only in as much as she's not fat). Unless it's a gay thing and you're into the whole "little boy" look. by Napoleon Park

around for the "New Amsterdam" article and talkback. Fox's new fantasy series about a 300 year old immortal turned NYC cop doomed to live until he finds true love debuts in about four hours, no mention of it here. I thought AICN was into these geeky fantasy shows. Aren't there supposed to be some Buffy fans working here or something? Doomed crapshoots like Moonlight and Journeyman got talkbacks, the fairy tale series Pushing Daisies got a weekly love-fest, but New Amsterdam gets ignored like it was Reaper? Are we that worried that if someone tunes in a minute too early they'll catch sight of "Idol" and their eyes will catch fire?

    Little Kyle Reese

    by Anakin Whoopass

Well we see the timeline has changed because in 1984 Kyle Reese said he never saw the war but grew up after. Now Judgment Day is in 2011 when Kyle is 8. That's a pretty big change to who he is, I think. It's critical that Skynet never learns Kyle's identity or Terminator 1 never happens. I also find it interesting that Kyle was born during the years Sarah and John skipped over in time which avoided the scenario of the son living at the same time the father is conceived, if the universe would object to that somehow.

The best thing about this show...

    by Johnny Rocket

...are Sarah's wrap-up monologues at the end of each episode. They've been able to pull in a lot of T1 & 2 canon there, and it fits nicely.

John is showing a few flashes of decisive leadership.

    by kabong

BAG is not bad, but I don't think his character should exist. It's too much a part of TV's tendency to make everything small. Everybody is too tightly related. Kyle Reese should have been just one soldier in TechCom. Everybody doesn't have to be everybody's buddy. They're setting this up to seem like John Connor beats Skynet with a few guys in the neighborhood. The war should be global. Skynet should relocate its central node to a high mountain protected by squadrons of HKs instead of camping in Topanga.

    Minor Scratches

    by DarthFloyd

Honestly, the first few SWAT guys go storming in and then go flying out the way they came in, the next ones go in firing until Cromartie plugs them, the next SWAT members, seeing their cohorts go down, go in spraying even more shots. Mathmatically speaking, there should have been more bullets pelting the T-888 than shown. Once they gave the order to fall back, did they just disappear altogether? I'd be back at the SWAT van looking for some nice grenades or something else strong enough to bring it down. At least seal the area so it doesn't get away!

  • March 4, 2008, 10:35 p.m. CST

    by DarthFloyd

Okay, I'm over-analyzing, but it's either this or suffer through American Idiot...I mean Idol (well, no I don't) with my wife. Should we get a second season, I would think Cromartie would be #1 on the FBI most wanted list, and there would be an investigation to the deaths of the SWAT members.

Last comments for the night. Remember the exoskeleton that was incinerated...Cameron was packing away several bags of what appeared to be the stripped blood and tissue from the exoskeleton. If her skeleton is still intact, she should be able to graft whatever flesh and muscle she needs (of course, if she grafts the T-888's wang on as well, they better start playing the theme music to The Crying Game). <p> Oh and kabong, in the novel/script to T2, John is shown listing to a radio getting intelligence from battles from all over the world in different languages. So for now, he's got a little posse he's a part of. After Judgement Day, he'll lead the world.

Awesome season. My favorite FOX show.

    by ZeroCorpse

But I do have some questions. <p> Did they sew up Cameron's GAPING HOLE on her head? Was that done off-screen? <p> What's up with the strange Mexican chica who NEVER SAYS A WORD?!?! Is she a Terminator, or just an actor who doesn't speak English? (and why am I so turned on by her?) <p> How did Sarah figure out that Reese killed Andy? <p> And finally, I have to say I LOVED the SWAT scene-- The use of the swimming pool and the song was inspired. It was much more effective than showing us more scenes of the terminator slamming guys against walls and throwing them in the air. (Seriously. Terminators have two fighting moves: Grab collar and slam into wall, and grab body and throw into wall. RInse and repeat.) <p> This show is worthy of the Terminator name. I love what they're doing. Hopefully season two doesn't drop the ball like HEROES did.

Best 2 scenes of the finale...

    by SlickyVonBoner

Where Derek Reese used what he thought was the dudes daughter as a bargaining chip and then shot him in the face... and when he took John to the park for his birthday to see his father, at the age of 5. A pretty touching scene and well acted. I just wish the terminator show-down near the end was seen, but regardless it was well-done. Oh yeah, and Cameron is gonna need a plastic surgeon too.

  • March 5, 2008, 1:56 a.m. CST

Hey haters- Season "finale" wasn't meant to be the finale.

    by ZeroCorpse

If you don't think this was much of a cliffhanger, you're right. This was episode 9. The final episodes of the season were cancelled due to the WGA strike-- Remember that little event? They cut the season short at this episode, and will incorporate the ending they wanted into the beginning of Season 2. <p> So please, stop with the whole "that wasn't much of a cliffhanger" thing. Yes, we know Cameron will survive. We're watching the show, too. We don't need your Captain Obvious powers to help us this time. <p> And finally, will you dorks PLEASE shut up about wanting to see a T-1000..? Why are you so horny for a T-1000, anyway? having one in the series would make the one in T2 seem less unique. The whole point of the T-1000 was that it was a rare, special model that was deployed out of desperation. It failed. Perhaps there are no other T-1000 models? Perhaps they only have one of those for every 10,000 endoskeleton models. Who knows? Either way, a T-1000 would not enhance the story in any way. It's a cheap special effect that was put into the movie because it was a cool way to show off a new technology. These days, CGI morphing is hardly that impressive. I'm much more impressed by the terminator's quest to steal an identity the hard way.

I couldn't agree with you more, David Cloverfield. If I was just reading summaries of the episodes, I'd think it was the cheesiest thing on the tube. The pilot I thought was pretty cheesy and bad, but every other episode greatly exceeded my expectations. I REALLY hope this comes back for season 2. My god, they actually got the "teenage girl terminator" thing to work...and work well.

    IF I were them though

I would've abandoned all this "having your cake and eating it too" approach, and say T1 happened in 1991, T2 happened in 2005 and Judgement Day was always coming in 2010. James Cameron himself was pretty flexible with the time line (John sure did grow up fast in T2). That would avoid a lot of confusion and exposition (like jumping forward in time a few years.).

If you've been paying attention, (like I know you are) then you'd know that while Andy was in Derek's post-apocalyptic future, Derek kills him in the present. Therefore, like Sarah says at the end of T2, the future is uncertain. POTENTIAL SPOILER ALERT: With the future being uncertain, I've maintained that Cameron's role in Judgement Day may be that of a peace-maker between the machines and humans. Whether robotic or not, as Arnold expositioned in T2, the terminators are designed to evolve with human exposure. Further, if John Connor's relationship with Cameron evolves into a trusting relationship, Judgement Day can be avoided. Remember that Kyle Reese (and I think Derek said this too) said that Judgment Day was triggered by Skynets FEAR of the human race. If that fear can be satiated, there would be no need for Skynet (or any other A.I. to protect itself). Camerons link into the traffic system is the first hint as to how she will be playing a role in the series finale, if it happens.

I'm actually impressed that this many people

    by kesoze4

Seem to really enjoy the show, that's fantastic that you guys have found something you like. It's just such a pity that you don't know how awful this is compared to so much else out there. I've seen every episode, I'm a huge fan of the movies, but either you have the lowest standards of entertainment out there, you haven't tried anything on expanded or premium cable, or you're just very young. Anyway, again, don't mean to hate, glad you can enjoy it, but the worst episode ever made of The Shield had more intelligence and emotion than the best episode of T:TSCC this season.

    Summer Glau is a robo-babe

    by RogueWarrior65

This show rules. Summer is certainly one of the chief reasons I watch this. Beautiful and tough. Precisely the type of girl I search for. Given the last scene of the season I seriously hope the producers don't pull a Dr. Who on the actor. BTW, Summer, if you're reading this, can I take you out some time?

    by biggles2_22

...I'm also glad that your enamored with that show starring the guy who played Thing and a really unfunny John Belushi. Such a pity that maybe you don't realize that sometimes, folks just like to have fun with a sci-fi series (even with it's faults) AND watch the other stuff that meets with your approval. Don't mean to be hatin' here but there's nothing worse than a boob-tube snob.

    TSCC Love

I really can't get enough of this show and hope it returns next season. Anyone bashing Brian Austin Green must not be watching. He's done an excellent job in his role. I think one of this show's strengths is that they have developed a solid central core of characters and stuck with them. Unlike Heroes(which I do enjoy as well) where it seems that there are at least a dozen central characters this show keeps it simple. Sometimes less is more and I definitely think thats the case here. VIVA SARAH CONNOR!

If I hear anyone say "The Turk" one more time...

    by Joelseph01

*I* will bring on the apocalypse. There's got to be someway they can lighten the mood, inject some actual humor when discussing the utter destruction of the planet so as to pull back from the melodrama. Buffy did this extremely well, despite making the dialogue outright quirky (I love Buffy, but the wit was outright screaming at times). As for the cast, only Lena Headey should speak in a whisper. Dekker needs to cut that shit out, and good God, get a haircut. Why does the leader of the surviving population of the planet look like a Trenchcoat Mafia d-bag. As for the poster who shot down Dillahunt, Garret is the man. Rent The Assassination of Jesse James if you don't believe me. As for Bruce Davison's recent performance (Gotta hate those mutant lovers), Earl Boen is low-grade-pay enough to get him to reprise his role, isn't he? That's something we would've loved. Also, where is the T-1000 model? I know it's a TV show, which means A) they don't have enough money for the effects or B) the model won't be introduced til another season, but there is no reason why they should send a T-800 after a T-1000 failed. You send 2 T-100s.

    kesoze4: The Shield?

    by ZeroCorpse

Dude, if I wanted to watch another cop show I'd watch The Wire, but I am sick to death of cop shows. Fuck cop shows, and ESPECIALLY fuck "gritty" cop shows that rip off NYPD Blue. <p> If you don't like Terminator, then go elsewhere. Watch a CSI marathon and wank to the 'realness' of it. I'm having fun with Terminator, and though it's not exactly Shakespeare, it's still better than watching yet another cop, lawyer, or "fat/annoying guy and his hot wife" show.

A familiar face in Terminator The SCC finale'

    by pumaman

Anyone here recognise Craig Fairbrass ( formerly in Uk soap Eastenders ) and also the tough guy in Stallone's Cliffhanger, who got to call Sly a wanker :-) Shame he wasn't cast as a Terminator as he certainly looks the part. The only thing wrong would be the heavy cockney accent . For instance : " Alright guv'na you ain't seen John Connor around have you me old china ? " Either way, give this show a second season dammit !

Has to get a 2nd Season

    by TheTaf

Lena Headey is reason enough for TTSCC to get a 2nd season on top of that (unfortunately not literally) you got Summer Glau (did you see her doing ballet...OH MY!!) and if thats not reason enough then you got kick ass scenes from the future, judgement day and the war against the machines in all its glory (dont think glory is the right word but you get my point!!) This has to get a 2nd season!!

    Canon Vs. Cannon

    by Reel American Hero

This is something that's bugged me for as long as I've been talking in geek friendly forums on the net. Terminator the tv series doesn't violate cannon. As a matter of fact I haven't seen a single cannon since the start of the show. Guns yes, cannons no. Now, Canon, (one n) is another word for continuity or the mythology of a show, comic, movie series, etc. That has been fucked quite a few times on this show and a lot of other things lately *cough*Marvel*cough*. But to this day I've yet to see any cannons get violated on this show. I'm not sure why one would want to violate a cannon, but people sure do seem to talk about it a lot though. To each his own I guess.

    T3 Continuity

    by BigMick

This is just my own thought on the subject, but I think what they're doing with the show is kind of like what Bryan Singer did with Superman: Returns, and ignore the godawful mess that was T3. This would explain how the events of everything that's happened in the series could have happened. Because T3 took place in 2004 and in the show they've jumped forward in time to 2007 and presumably by the time Judgment day happens John Connor is only going to be like 20 or 21. <p> I don't know if any of that is true or not but it makes everything in SCC a little easier to grasp. If not I don't really care, it's still a pretty decent show and a good break from studying on Monday nights. Let's face it people, they're just trying to entertain us for an hour, not split the atom.

  • March 5, 2008, 2:12 p.m. CST

    by BigMick

Ok, what I meant was how Bryan Singer ignored Superman's 3&4 while making Superman: Returns...not how he ignored T3. That just doesn't make sense. I have no idea what I'm even saying anymore.

    It Was Just OK

    by bobinnova

As pointed out in these posts the two scenes that made two hours of waiting worth it were the swimming pool and seeing the Reeses as kids - I was really hoping for that as with 2-3 years until the Apocolypse you would think that some of the characters would exist. The swimming pool scene has to rank with the other famous scenes in Terminator movies - only other way to improve on it would have been to show the corpses with various causes of death - gunshot to chest, head missing, neck twisted, etc. I thought the ending was one of the best revenge sequences with Cromartie basically telling Cameron "you fucked me up, now I'm gonna fuck you up - go try to rebuild yourself now". Lots of questions remain - Who was that guy with the fake daughter and how did he have Sarah's file? Why did he go to the Hispanic house first? Where is 'the turk'? Why did that girl jump off the roof of the school, and why did Cameron stop John from trying to save her? What images was she seeing? Why didn't Cameron detect there was a bomb in the car?

Love the Show, Hate the Trolls

    by Visact

This is a potentially great show. The acting and production standards are high. There is the occasional line of dialogue that makes me groan, but most of the show has great promise and is already great entertainment. I'm trying to understand the minds of the Trolls who frequent these talkbacks. If you don't like the show, don't watch it. There are enough Reality Shows out there that I would rather die than watch, so I just don't watch them. Get a life people, if you have something contructive to say, say it, otherwise go move into a hole with Osama.

    mai too sense....

    by RokurGepta

it's not "great", but it hasn't been terrible either. I've actually enjoyed about half of the episodes, i think all the actors are doing a fine job, even Brian Austin Green. I also think that B.A.G . did a pretty good job in that Domino movie as well..... <r> I love the character that Summer Glau plays, Cameron is a terminator that I would definately appreciate some quality time with.... Is her name a little nod to James Cameron or what? <r> i can't believe that more people havn't picked up on the opening monologue "some to kill him, one to protect him" it is saying point of fact that Skynet sent 1 terminator back in time to protect John Connor.... i think it is safe to "assume" this is Cameron... right? <r> what if Cameron IS skynet? not that she will become skynet, but that skynet copied or uploaded its personality/AI into the Cameron terminator body/unit? <r> <r> I think the acting for the most part is pretty good. I think that they actor's/actresses are just "getting to know" the characters.... <r> yes my favorite scenes are the park scene, and the future scenes..... and the shoot out in the "finale" <r> basically I'd be really really sad if fox did not renew this series, if this show were to be canceled, it would not be the first good show to be shit canned by FUX, ad it definately won't be the last... <r> on another note, that show "UNHITCHED" look good to anyone? i was thinking of checking it out.... anyone really like it? think it will last? <r> the juilianne morgolis show looks damn terrrrrrrrrrible.... <r> i watched the first episode of "new amsterdam" and it was OK, but only ...just OK....., so I have a sneeky suspician that it will be canceled after around 2-3 episodes.... <r> hey anyone know what happened to the show "quarterlife"? did it get canceled after 1 episode? i noticed it then aired on the channel bravo? what is the story behind that? <r> ok enough rambling, and I hope i put in the right symbols for line spacing, otherwise this post will be a jumbled mess....
