WOLVERINE goes to the carnival! We have set pics and a spy report here!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. WOLVERINE is shooting in Australia at the moment and now they're doing some location stuff... you know what that means! Spy pics and reports will start flowing in!
Let's start with the report and that'll be followed by some pics! Enjoy!
Hey Harry
Long time reader, first time contributor. I have a small tidbit about the Wolverine prequel coming up that you may be interested in.
An article ran in the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this week that said they would be doing an overnight shoot for Wolverine in Federal Park this Friday night and that fans should beware because security would be tight. Taking this as somewhat of a challenge my mate and I decided to tool up and see if we could sneak onto the set. We arrived at the location just after nightfall dressed in suitably dark attire and proceeded to try and sneak in past security.
The set was pretty cool. They had sealed off a fairly large section of the park and done it up as a carnival with lots of bright lights, some rides and a Ferris Wheel and various attractions. There were a lot of extras milling around in typical carnival attire such as mimes, clowns etc.
We made it past security and into the restricted area and were wandering around through the trailers and such but couldn't really get close enough to the set to see much, although we did go past Ralph Winter and John Palermo's trailers. We doubled back around and discovered there was an area where we could get quite a good view of the set and that was actually open to the public with security letting us stand quite close. Unfortunately all of the lights really messed up my camera and none of the photos turned out very well.
We saw someone who looked like Will.i.am from the Black Eyes Peas wearing a purple jacket and sporting an afro walking around the carnival set and conferring with the director, but what I found most interesting was the set dressing of the sideshow attraction. There was one that had a picture of a man with a beard in a top hat called Dr Freak advertising his freak show with a woman called 'Elastina' who I assume is going to be a mutant. There was also a three headed baby. It'll be interesting to see how this ties in to the film.
If you run this you can call me 'The Man Who Japed'.
And then we have a series of pics taken by another spy, known in the talkbacks as "hallmitchell." No actors are in them, but you can get a feeling of this carnival atmosphere. Enjoy!

This better fit.
-
reminds me of face off, when travoltas kid gets popped!
-
It's it me or did that guy get his buddy to pretend "pose" just to get a picture of the carnival?
-
What's with The Rock wearing sunglasses on that poster?
-
Does anyone think we'll ever see the "masked" version of Wolverine in a movie, or does the outfit work strictly on the page? Would it look goofy brought to life? Anyone?
-
More like a tapestry. A sign. Whatever. Dwayne Johnson would be rolling over in his grave if he were dead.
-
My guess is this is where the Blob gets introduced... just a hunch.
-
You took mah line!! hahahaha just messin, but yea I would assume we'd see the blob here.
-
That carvival dude totally looks like the Rock.
-
"I am not an animal!!!"
-
I would for one would like to see the mask done in a movie. Also tone down the hair do a little bit.
-
Did you go on the teacup ride? Those always make me dizzy!
-
Err..
-
Just keeping the updates coming
-
Kinda looks a little like Paul Giamatti no??
-
I mean, they kinda look as if they were drawn with 3D Studio and Photoshop, don't they? When is this movie taking place? early 80s? Look at the one of Dr. Freak, looks too elaborate for the time. Anyway, I don't want to nitpick, just a comment. Looking forward to this movie

My guess is either The Blob or...(highly unlikely) but Arcade's
by reel american hero
Which would be kind of cool. -
Sorry. I was only dreaming of what could be...but with a REAL ending where Batman DOES knock the livin' $#!tt out of the Joker.
-
it's where one of the key grips for this movie drove by (i assume). expect the article to arrive! i'll provide some commentary in the TB on possibilities of car make and what speed. WOLVERINE KEY GRIP ALLEY DRIVE PIX should be the title.

...I am not authorized to tell you about this scene, but I will.In a lighthearted, comic relief moment, Wolverine and Colossus take their gals (respectively: Mariko Yashida and Juno Pryde) to the carnival on a double date. The boys get the bright idea to win stuff animals for the ladies.Wolverines keen senses indicate that the dart is weighted, so he has Colossus do a fastball special and throw him at the target, which he slices in half. When the carnie attempts to give them only one stuffed animal, Wolverine says, "I'm the best in the world at what I do, and what I do isn't very nice."To which the carnie replies, "Who talks like that?"Suddenly, a team of carnival themed mutants attack our boyz. There's Ms. Meth; Cyteeth; X-Con; and Teardroptattoo.Wolvie says: "Music to my ears, bub. I was spoilin' for a good scrap."To which the original carnie (played by me in a cameo) says: "Who talks like that?"
-
And candy corn!
-
Or is that Elektra I smell?
-
You remember "Solid Gold?" You know that chick on the far right with the hoop earrings and the glitter boots? Jonny Wraith got some 'o that meow, you dig?
-
Oh, come on, man, you have to love the ultra-stylized dialogue of Chris Claremont!
-
Ha! I work with the guy who took the photos. I had told him I was going to sneak onto the set - looks like he did too.
-
Great writing and great scoop.
We'll have a laugh about it on Monday.
-
Cheeky bastard!

"Elastic Man" in this? Check out the carnival banners in the pic
by mike_d
hmmm.
-
Odd choice, but it could work.
-
haha, eh.
-
someone said up there, the posters are way too modern...for any time period, but esp if this is taking place in the past. i see a very retro truck. even if you've been to a modern carnival, the attraction art is ugly, naive style. i guess mybse they are making enough cash from the wolvie shows they hired their own graphic designer and ordered up some high quality UV print banners.
as repeated above, this nitpick bugs me too. -

Since this superhero talkback is still live on the major board, I wanted to repeat how important it is that Tony Stark's voice be electronically altered when he is in the IRON-MAN suit. Of coarse, it's a given that the original design does not feature such sophistication, considering the circumstances, obviously. -Being that I'm a rather passionate fan, I just want to make sure that all the bases are covered. I have so much faith in the IRON-MAN movie, from what I've seen thus far. However, at the same time, I do NOT want to see (or in this case, hear) a surprise screw-up. I mean, can you imagine Darth Vader's voice any other way? IRON-MAN's voice does require some attention. His "word balloons" look differently in the comic books for good reason. Please cover your bases, Fav! (I figure it was something that I didn't NEED to say...but just had to say it, anyway.)

Yes, at one point, you will hear Wolverine say "WHEEEE!"
by mrmysteryguest
-
..2nd one, with actual pictures, is way better
-
Poor bastards.
-
…Populated with midgets and knife jugglers and so on. The time period is hard to tell. The “hero” cars were from the 1950s, but the clothing of the extras looked more modern than that. I saw Hugh Jackman at close range and he had a different hairstyle. But this was just before he left. Also, that's me in the photo. Thanks for publishing it Quint. I've been reading aicn since '98 and this beats being "FIRST!"
-
Is it just me or does that Mr. Freak guy kinda look like Mr. Sinister?? I'm not saying it will play a big part....but i think it would be kinda cool to have as a cameo.
-
Stupid fucks. Japan is the next most important thing in Wolverine's origin apart from Weapon X, more than Silver Fox etc. Wolverine is a failed Samurai. That is his character.
-
Blob is your man. Japan saga will be focus of sequel when an old face shows up in America from Wolverine's past.
-
ok....
-
You make a good point and I agree with you. However did anyone else notice the pagoda style buildings in the background on the first promo shot of Wolverine from the new movie? Look closely. Maybe Japan does play a small part after all?
-
Well spotted BuckNasty1138! I heard a rumour Sinister might have a blink and you'll miss it cameo in a scene featuring Gambit. Maybe the carnival is a cover for Sinister's experiments and that's where Logan meets Remy Le Beau. It would fit quite nicely with comic continuity.
-
way comes?
-
I was actually alittle surprised that nobody made that connection earlier...because it was the first thing that i thought of when i saw the pictures. I definitely think it would be a very realistic take on Mr Sinister...having him doing experiments in a carnival of freaks..instead of doing them in the Savage Land on freaks...the Savage Land will never work in the movies, and i'm glad because i never liked the Savage Land at all!
-
Sorry. It's just been awhile since I've seen anybody post that.
-
...because this movie seems to have thrown in everything but that. Doesn't it seem like this is about 30 movies thrown into a blender?I'll say it again: I really like Wolverine, I really like Jackman, and I have zero interest in this movie. It's hard to screw up such an inherently good thing as a simple Wolverine movie, but this is looking more and more like one of those designed-by-committee things with too many elements that distract from the central character. Hope I'm wrong, but evidence to the contrary is thin so far.
-
A movie that takes a fantastic premise or two and turns it into an hour and a half of solid poo!!!
You are correct, kevred. -
If you recall, in the Blob's first appearance in X-Men comics, he was a sideshow freak in a carnival...since the Blob has been cast, I'd imagine this is where his story begins.
