LOVE GURU trailer hits! Mike Myers and Verne Troyer together again!

Published at:  Feb 29, 2008 3:12:07 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It looks like Mike Myers is back doing his thing. If you like him, that's good news, if you don't... well, then you probably don't give a shit.

But I like him. And I like midgets. Ergo I like this trailer. It has a little something for everyone... for the guys you have pre-preggers Jessica Alba, for the gals you have Justin Timberlake (playing a character called Jacque LeCocque... at least at some point... IMDB says his name is Jacque Grande now... LeCocque was funnier) sporting the most obvious package since David Bowie in LABYRINTH.

And then for people like me you have midgets. Hooray!

Harry here... personally - I prefer this trailer:

When I was in middle School, me and my buddies thought up the movie Ass (but we were only of PG age so we call it butt) and the sequel to it would be Boobs. EHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm a hyper hypo!! Mike Meyers just go back to SNL, because why the fuck not you should have enough money from White Trash idiots buying your fucking crapfest Shrek 3 so you don't have to even get off your couch again, let alone waste my precious theater spaces with your movie premade for a sequel. Oh man Jimmy Kimmel was playing the bass clarinet, who'd a thunk that Man Show Co-host would be making relevant comedy in 08, while one of SNL's greatest actors would be making movies that Larry the Cable Guy fans waste all there money on so they don't have enough money to see his flicks.

Mike Myers back in a lead role feels so off to me. It feels like a lifetime ago we saw him in anything and now here he is; front and center.

The trailer has some laughs but the big ones are midget jokes. Maybe Myers time has come and passed, we just didn't realize it because he doesn't do anything. We'll find out for sure opening weekend.

    by antonphd

I love all of the shit people are saying here about how unfunny Mike Meyer's is. Enough people think he's funny that he's a millionaire too many times over to count. I know that none of these people would ever stoop to making movies that are funny to millions of people in exchange for being a rediculously rich. Being rich as hell just isn't worth having to make a silly movie once every few years or sit in a chair and do voice work for animated movies once every few years. Yeah. That Mike Meyers. He is such an idiot. He must just spend all of his time having fun being rich instead of working. What a loser. Not like all of the folks here who find that they have so little to do with their time that they spent it bitching on AICN talkbacks about Mike Meyers comedies. Ah, was nice to drop in after a long time and see that nothing changes around here.

    Baffled by Myers hate

    by mr writer

Is it because he's a millionaire? I'd rather watch something with Mike Myers in it than anything by Will 'Chevy Chase' Ferrell anyday! Yeah, The Love Guru looks as broad as comedy can get (its the definition of low brow comedy) but I laughed a few times during that trailer and it basically looks like an Austin Powers retread with an Indian theme. Its not going to be a classic, but it'll probably be funnier than 80% of the comedies at the cinema these days. I know the likes of Apatow and Rogen are the flavour of the month at the moment and can do no wrong, but Myers has done some great stuff over the years.

    by llghtst0rmer

it did make me chuckle once or twice, but... it is so similar to all the last 3 Austin Powers movies that it's just embarassing. I mean, after all this time Myers has been away from appearing in movies (last one was Cat in the Hat and that was under extensive makeup,) and he comes back to do this. Basically the exact same stuff he did as Austin Powers. Really, Mike? ...Really?

This seems like the worst case of going-back-to-the-well syndrome since Kevin Smith made Clerks 2.

Nice Deepak Chopra impression, but not very funny. And making fun of Verne Troyer's size got old a few Austin Powers films ago. Speaking of "Master of Disguise", that film has a unique distinction. When I was a projectionist, "Master of Disguise" was the film for which I had to shut off the projector the most times because the theater was completely empty. Second place went to the "Jamboree Bears".

Can Verne Troyer make a movie

    by grammaton cleric binks

without Mike Meyers? Considering what life has given him he's done well. It must be tough because look at it this way: Peter Dinklage, while a dwarf himself, has a cool voice which give him credit to roles he's in. Elf sucked balls, but the only good part was Dinklage. Troyer on the other hand, like others with his condition, has a voice of a higher pitch, which makes it harder for some to take him seriously. If you put Troyer in the roles Dinklange has done they films would be inferior just because of his voice. This is probably why he's sticking to comedic roles.
