Darwin's tidbit on ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE shooting in Brooklyn!

Published at:  May 10, 1999 3:29:46 AM CDT

Darwin wrote in here with this teeny tiny tidbit about the flightpath of a certain flying rodent in Brooklyn. Are there often flying rodents in Brooklyn or do they mostly stick to the sewers? I don't know... Personally this is gonna have to be one surreal as hell film experience if you ask me... Here's Darwin...

I was just walking back from the gym, which is on 86th street here in
Brooklyn, where they filmed the car chase in The French Connection, some
Saturday Night Fever stuff, etc etc etc. Anyway, it looks like we're going
to add one more film to that list -- there was a sign up alerting the "small
business owners" that Rocky and Bullwinkle will be shooting there on May 10th
and 11th. Apparently, it'll be done from a helicopter -- it's for a scene
involving Rocky flying around Brooklyn. Don't know if that's really much of
a scoop, but I thought you might like to know. Unfortunately, I work in
Manhattan, so I can't check it out. Such is life.

If you have any love of movies at all, please stay away from this turd when it comes out. Moviegoers Against Stupid Shit beg you. You know it's going to be horrible (and if you don't think so, you're just living in denial). If this movie makes even 1 dollar, we're going to get dumped on with countless loads of crappy re-makes and re-hashed dumb ideas. There are already enough dumb movies being made, we don't need any more. Remember kids, just say no!

I suspect that it will be nothing more than helicopter fly overs and that they will insert the flying squirrel later using some sort of computer generated graphics. I don't think they really have a trained squirrel to fly through the streets, do they? 'jus wonderin'.

I just got back from the Rocky and Bullwinkle auditions with my pet flying squirrel. I hope he gets the part although he did bite 15 people and killed 4 other auditioning squirrels. Oh well, that's show biz.

Does this movie really have to be made? Is there a demand for a film based on this campy '60s cartoon (that was never all that popular)? I'm just wondering why it is being made at all. How on Earth are the production designers gonna match the set with the odd, angular images and animation of the original t.v. show? That, to me, is what made the show worth watching during reruns, though I never really enjoyed it all that much...too campy and stylized. De Niro looks terrible as Fearless Leader and Alexander looks even worse. Also, I couldn't stand rocky's voice (obviously a woman's, June something...). For the life of me, I thought Rocky was a girl squirrel!!

Aw C'mon! R&B is a classic! Why are people always so quick to jump on these movies & cal them CRAP? Sure... I know most of the time they ARE but every once in a while they sneak something good in there!

I'm still not sure what to make of this ROCKY & BULLWINKLE movie. Yeah, the show was heavily stylized & it was almost more of a comic strip, with its minimal animation & reliance on dialogue (albeit GREAT dialogue),than it was a cartoon. I can't imagine what Rocky & Bullwinkle are going to look like in CGI. Finding the right tone for this is going to be all important. If nothing else, maybe this movie will cause more episodes of the original cartoon to be released to tape. I'd love for them to put out all the episodes of the rocket fuel story. Oh, Rene Russo's dress needs to be strapless, too.
