TRANSPORTER 3 In Motion!! Same Stars, New Director!!

Published at:  Feb 25, 2008 10:53:46 PM CST

Merrick here...

Jason Statham and Francois Berleand are back, and PRISON BREAK's Robert Knepper will join the mayhem.

However, Louis Leterrier, who helmed the first two pics, has been replaced by Olivier Megaton ("Exit," "The Red Siren"), who was second-unit director on EuropaCorp's "Hitman."

...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

When I first read the director's name, I thought it said Oliver Megatron. Really... is there a better first name for Megatron than 'Oliver'?

As previously mentioned on this site, the director of the first two films (Louis Leterrier) will be bringing us THE INCREDIBLE HULK this Summer.

Excited that Shoot'em up 2 doesn't seem to be coming up everywhere. The Transporter is so much better, and Jason Statham is so much cooler in this role then Clive Boring. Plus Jason can actually fight. I wouldn't mind if Statham just came out with a new Crank or transporter every year and didn't do anything else. Any word on Crank 2?

After all, they had to make this series a trilogy. Besides, between Transporter and the Bourne series, we already have an American version of the James Bond franchise.

    by thedarklinglord

The first Transporter was decent, mostly because the action scenes had a kind of Jackie Chan energy about them (minus the imagination, of course). The plot was pretty laughable and the ending was about as anticlimactic as you can get - it seriously felt like they were running low on film so they decided, "Okay, we'll just wrap it up here." The Transporter 2 was fucking retarded. It was like XXX and XXX2 got together for inbreeding and out came Transporter 2. It was THAT bad. Everything about the movie sucked. Crank had an equally implausible plot, but it was pretty much ideal for an nonsensical action movie: he needs to keep adrenaline pumping to stay alive, so let's have 90 minutes of non-stop carnage. Only, we didn't get that, did we? The action kept getting bogged down by the moronic story and lame attempts at characterization. Oh, and the public sex thing? You know, that would have only been remotely interesteding if we got to see titties and ass - and NOT Jason's. It wasn't the most horrible piece of shit I've ever had to sit through, but it seemed like a colossal waste of cheesy action movie potential. We need Transporter 3 about as badly as we need Ghosts of Mars 2, okay? Someone give Statham some decent scripts or go ahead and relegate him to low budget direct-to-video shit alongside Snipes and be done with it.

    by maniaq

sure Megatron would happen to be so much cooler but a megaton is a helluva lotta weight to be throwing around, nonetheless
I thought 1 & 2 had been done by different directors - they were so different, right down to one sucking and the other being absultely fucking awesome (except for Stratham's American accent, which always sucks in every film) but waddayaknow it was the same guy!
maybe Megaton can breathe some much-needed new life into this franchise? I agree the finicky perfectionist nature of Transporter was where the character got a lot of his charm and was especially important to the chemistry between the leads in the first. Those few scenes of character were better than an entire film's worth of action and stunts in the second one - which struck me as a poor man's Man On Fire, which was not that good by any stretch

Loved the style of the first one, all the action scenes had energy and, dare I say it, wit. The film was ridiculous, funny and exciting. Not even good gratuitous nudity from Monica.

Well said, Spandau Belly. I totally agree. The absurdity of the action sequences is something I look forward to. The parachuting onto a moving 18 wheeler in the first movie. The oil fight in the first movie. Deflecting a missile with a dinner tray (a scene that was in trailers but not the actual movie) in the first movie. The ridiculous sequence where he ramps the car and hits a crane hook in mid-air to dislodge a bomb underneath the car in Transporter 2. I love that ridiculoid shit.

    I Want Better Villains!!!

    by fan180

While I enjoyed the last two and look forward to a third, I think action films need better villains.

Instead of having these random, faceless henchmen they should put in more memorable bad guys like Kill Bill, and Smokin Aces had.

If they can't fight make them smart and unconventional like Kevin Spacey in Seven. If they can fight make them deadly like Ray Park or Cyril Raffaelli(Diehard, Kiss Of The Dragon)

If the villains don't pose a serious threat to the hero it will look like Power Rangers.

It's true, it's true! Hunt around online and you'll find that the US release versions of both movies got toned down substantially. The full-strength versions are a lot more fun, and the export version of Transporter 2 even has enhanced (errr finished is probably closer to the truth) CG fx.
And for the record, Crank is a comedy- That was its directors stated intention anyway. PS. Shoot-'Em-Up failed badly, it was so... obvious and calculated.
