And While We’re Talking About WonderCon... coughxfilestrailercough...

Published at:  Feb 24, 2008 5:11:21 AM CST

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

Look! Quick!

My first reaction? Looks like a lot of fun.

My second reaction? I’m honestly more thrilled by the sight of Mulder and Scully together again than I was by the sight of Indy back in action. Wouldn’t have guessed that before seeing these trailers.

My third reaction? I love the audience at WonderCon screaming. Fox should leave this version online... that’s what really sells this trailer.

Thanks to Paul for the heads-up on this one.

Love the reactions. You almost never get that in muted bloody Blighty. The only time I did was at a screening of Cloverfield a couple of weeks back. No, it wasn't that movie which elicited the response, rather the Rambo trailer that preceded it. A few seconds in and I couldn't hold it in any more, so I had to let out a very loud "YEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!!". Pretty soon, the whole audience was lauging, pumping fists and cheering through the rest of the trailer. Loved it.

enough to make us demand more. This trailer falls considerably short of that definition. For the record, I was also a big X-Files fan of the first several seasons, and enjoyed the monster-of-the-week episodes better, since they usually had a fun sense of humor as well as the dark foreboding.

I'm sold in that Carter gets the benefit of the doubt, as does Spielberg/Ford on Indy - they didn't have to make these, it's no 'cash-in' cuz they have shloads of money, so they made them with nothing to lose - which, yes, can mean utter slop, but rather is probably going to be uber-surprising and that much more fun....and no one knows shit about this script (that i've seen), so count me in til I'm proved wrong! He is the perfect director for the job, he created the show for christ sake. the last thing this movie needs is some big shot hollywood director coming up with his own ideas of what mulder and scully should be like. Then why even watch Indy 4, Mori?

    by thelastcleric

You seem hellbent on bad mouthing Indy Jones 4 based on 90 seconds of footage so why even bother seeing the entire film? More than likely you’ll trash it regardless of quality if only to vindicate your initial (and frankly premature) musing based on a teaser trailer. You write good reviews here at AICN and there is plenty to see in the upcoming months so why not leave this one to some actual fans of the franchise? Seriously, you sound downright pissy when it comes to this film and it’s unnecessary.

    Fist Dirtbox

    by fist dirtbox

The Indy4 trailer doesn't quite suck, it does look underwhelming though, and I'm sorry but Ford just doesn't have the physical presence he used to have. He just looks old and scrawny to me - and a movie built up from sequences that go OLD MAN -> STUNT MAN -> CGI -> STUNT MAN -> OLD MAN just seems a bit sad... Also, in all fairness while Raiders was a masterpiece neither of the sequels that followed were even close quality wise. In case you haven't noticed every genre piece Spielberg has done in recent years has been phoned in. They tend to contain one or maybe two sequences that show how fucking great Spielberg can be, but the rest is just meh...

    Got my interest

    by fenrisulfr

But really, there's nothing to go nuts about with those few images. Like many, I was a huge X Files fan in the mid to late nineties. I used to buy those magazines with the whole new season overview, I even had the I WANT TO BELIEVE poster in my bedroom as a teen. And like everyone else, my interest started fading away with the 5th season when they started including more and more comedic episodes like Bad Blood. The 6th season saw the show lose its gritty mood with the relocation to LA, but it was still ok. And then I stopped watching with the 7th season. Curiously, my favorite episodes were always the Monster-of-the-Week episodes. I was always eager to discover which new mutant would be featured in this week's show, which special characteristics he would have. And I also loved the very dark, supernatural episodes like Die Hand Die Verletzt, which dealt with a satanic cult; or Excelsis Dei and its haunted hospital; Syzigy and the two little sluts who played witches; or the psycho episodes like the one with the guy cutting the word SISTER on his female victims chest.
On the other side, if the mythology episodes were interesting in the beginning, it became way too confused and complicated. Anyway, we will hopefully have a great two-hour loner, moody and gritty, just like it was back in 1994-1995. Rainy weather, Mark Snow's score, and a monster/unknown entity plot. It will be great. But please leave the alien perspective. No shit from space that remained buried in the ice for thousands of years, please.

    Bad Blood

    by edshrinker

HAve to agree with Gillian. I just rewatched Bad Blood and that is by far my favorite Ep. From Luke Wilson's novelty teeth to Mulder's theme from Shaft "shut yo mouf". And "well, he was kind of, knawed on" -AD Skinner. Awesome Ep.
