We’re three for three on season four. Of tonight’s installment, titled “Eggtown,” ABC says:
Kate's need to get information out of the hostage may jeopardize her standing with Locke -- as well as with Sawyer. Guest starring are Ken Leung as Miles, Jeremy Davies as Daniel Faraday, Rebecca Mader as Charlotte, Shawn Doyle as Duncan Forrester, Susan Gibney as Melissa Dunbrook, Traber Burns as judge, Fred Q. Collins as bailiff, Beth Broderick as Diane Jansen, Tania Kahale as nanny and William Blanchette as child.
* This week’s flash-forwards belong to (a maternal) Kate Austen.
* We’ll learn why Kate’s hinder isn’t languishing in stir.
* Beardless Jack Shephard turns up in Los Angeles.
* These are the last flash-forwards until 4.7, said to be the last episode before the multi-week break.
* John Locke will release Ben Linus from the rec room.
* The captive Miles will make a deal with the less-captive Kate.
* Over a box of Dharma vino, Kate will make a eyebrow-raising proposal to James Ford.
* Jack, Juliet, Dan and C.S. Lewis will be informed that the helicopter carrying Sayid, Desmond, Frank and Naomi did not get where it was going.
* We may learn how a major cast member – one introduced in the series pilot – meets his or her untimely demise. (Hint: It’s not Rose.)
Gibney, who apparently plays Kate’s lawyer, also assayed Knight Rider’s mom earlier this week and reportedly came really close to getting the Kathryn Janeway role on “Star Trek: Voyager” 13 years ago.
ABC confirmed Wednesday that “Lost” is indeed moving to 10 p.m. Thursdays starting April 24. New episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” will reclaim the current “Lost” timeslot, namely:

since they decided to only make 13 episodes this season because of the strike, how will that affect the remaining 16 episode season? Does this mean we'll get a 19 episode season at some point? Will we get 13 episodes this season, but a couple of them will be two hour episodes? Inquiring minds want to know!!!

as I say, season four is three for three so far. the fat has been trimmed, the filler has dissipated, and all of the flashbacks are now great. Season four has been distilled down to almost PURE COOLNESS!

i read somewhere carlton cuse said that the remaining 3 episodes will most likely be delivered in other seasons, as they still want to deliver the same total amount of episodes in the series as they had promised. they're not sure where or when exactly the 3 episodes are gna be thrown in yet

I posted this theory in the last Talkback: When Kate returned to civilization, a hotshot lawyer represented her, and helped to convince the jury to acquit Kate. And also since Kate is one of the Oceanic 6, she's a huge celebrity. (This explains why Jack had a hard time getting a hold of her in the third season finale -- not because she was a fugitive.)

the people rescuing them have the pull to get Kate off the hook. Alright maybe not clearly, but some kind of a deal had to be made on her part in exchange for her freedom. Something not so nice I'll bet. It can't be as simple as Jack spinning things to amp her up as a hero who saved lives. Maybe the "he" she refers to in the finale is the dude who put together Naomi and the team, or the unseen alleged economist Ben and Sayid were targeting. She's totally sleeping with the enemy.

Some of the oceanic six ended up working for Ben. Remember he is the arch manipulater. How did ben leave the Island. That is what I want to know. We will find out in time.

Isn't that what they've said all along? 7 episodes and 5 episodes is 12. Weren't we told that they'd filmed 8 episodes pre strike? Then we'd get 5 more after the hiatus?

8 done, filming 5 more. We get ep #8, which was done pre-Christmas, after the hiatus. I'm guessing eps 12 and 13 are a double episode so it airs in May during sweeps time.

I had been thinking too, okay, if this season gets shortened by, say, three episodes then maybe they'll just adjust and shift the cut episodes so that next season is three longer. But apparently not. And for good reason. That logic would sort of dictate stopping the current season three episodes before where it was supposed to end. So that means ending on a random point rather than the intended season ending climax. The producers say they intend to end on X point in the final episode and so, now, to get there they'll have to cut and change plans to get to that point quicker. And since those cut bits are points on the way to reaching X, not like they could then just paste them into next season episodes. The opportunity to tell those stories is just missed. I guess they could add episodes to the next season but they'd have to be new different stories/chapters they have to invent JUST to fill that air time and in that case why bother?

I thought Geneieve Bujold was almost named Janeway before Mulgrew was. Still, this has been an interesting season thus far. Much better than last year.

She was hired and filmed in the Voyager's captain's chair. Creative differences ensued for two days of shooting. Kate Mulgrew was the producers' second choice. Gibney, who earlier played LaForge's girlfriend on ST:TNG, was apparently their third.

Herc is correct that there will be a break after episode 7, because the producers found that episode to be a more "logical" place to start the hiatus...when Lost returns (in April?) they will show episode 8 (that was already filmed pre-strike) and then FIVE more episodes after that. Yeah, we still don't know if the finale is one or two hours - but they've been 2 hours every season so far, so I don't see them breaking tradition even with a shorter season.

That's the breakdown. They filmed 8 episodes, but the producers figure episode 7 is the more logical point for a break. Then April 24th we return with the one pre-strike episode plus the five more being filmed for a total of 6 more.

... near Tallahassee (yes, there really is such a place... it's the state capital) there's a tiny little town called "Two Egg" (Yes, there really is!) The episode title "Eggtown" immediately makes me think of that place, even though Two Egg's just a gas station, 4 or 5 houses and a stop sign.

I've loved every last bit of Lost for the past 3 seasons, but something about this season lacks the oomph I've seen and felt before on the show and I don't know why. Its not that its bad, but I swear these first 3 eps could have been put in one ep. I'm all for building up suspense and characters, and even during the "slow" part in S2, I had nothing bad to say, but maybe its the feeling that there are more commercials or something, I just feel at the end of these episodes I'm not really satisfied. Still best show on tv though.

I saw that clip and she was terrible. The only thing I can say is that she had a nicer voice than cigarette smoker, coffee drinker, Kate Mulgrew.

There's something missing. I think it's momentum. I thought the show would start burning forward after the finale last season and seeing as how they know the end point. But they are in a holding pattern. Really, the Losties aren't in any different position than they were during the finale.

I am apparently NOT the only one who feels this way. And if you'd read my post, I loved the last 3 seasons because they took their time. Some of the best episodes were actually pretty light on plot progression, but the character moments were so good I still felt satisfied at the end of the ep. For some reason I don't feel satisfied this season.

Why the flip Jack, Kate and Sayid -three smart cookies- are trusting these new guys so much. Sayid himself said he knows they arent there to rescue them adn yet he trusts that if he brings back the chick they'll take him on the helicopter. Why would he believe that? Then Miles not denying they were there to kill them, the guns, the gas masks...! Seriously?

just that nothing true to the characters has happened. Read my post a few back - thigns just don't make sense. The effect of that at least for me is that things have less oomph this season. This show IS a character driven experience and when you lose sight of that and have your characters just going through the motions of the plot, then you lose a great deal. The fact is, with all the HUGE things that are happening this season, I am frustrated that I'm just not into it like I should. Understand?

I never said nothing has happened. I said what has happened lacks any impact for me as a viewer BECAUSE this season seems more involved with the plot than the characters. I feel as though these once great characters are just being led along by the plot and not acting like they should based on the years we have spent with them this far. My saying that these first 3 eps could hae been put into 1 ep is just a result of there being no real moment that has mattered to me yet. I have always defended Lost's slow times when it was more about character - as I said, those were some of the best eps. I used to be on the edge of my seat, just praying the commercials would end becuase I was so involved. Now, its just simply a good show. Maybe they are just building to something, but I hope they remember who these people on the island are. BTW, I totally admit not even being sure myself what the problem this season is, so I admit to not being clear enough in previous posts.

I had a dream the other night where I was a character on Lost. The losties were wlaking with Ben still tied up as a hostage and they were taking them to some special machine. When they put him in the machine all of his special island powers would be gone. Similar to them forcing him to leave the island, he would lose his connection with it. The machine had five or six different lazers attached to it and each laser was responsible for a different island power, i.e. Desmond's future sense was one, Locke's powers came from another. The Losties set all the machines to take away the power and were about to put Ben in it when all of a sudden Jack switched it back and threw himself into the machine so he was hit with all the lasers and thus gaining all of the special island powers that Ben and others have. Then Jack just started doing this evil laugh. Then I woke up....LOST

This is what people have been waiting for, a fast paced progression of events (as compared to previous seasons), and yet there are STILL complaints! I personally think the fast pace will level off in a few eps, and we'll be back to the quieter moments which are absolutely necessary to the story. I, for one, love how the writers have kickstarted the season.

was Jack's pulling the trigger on Locke. Sawyer shooting one of the defenseless others seemed reasonable for his character, and the fact said others had been ready to kill them, but there definitely needs to be some fleshing out of the conflict between Jack and Locke. Locke's destruction of the sub and various things, and Naomi are pretty nuts and destructive to the group but even Ben hasn't killed defenseless people(he gave the order for sawyer, bernard, jin to be kept alive). And yet, we are supposed to believe that all those people would still follow Jack? It seems like there is something of a push on the writer's end to foreshadow that things with Locke might go really wrong. Anyone else think that Ben knows he will have to leave the island soon, and is grooming Locke as replacement guardian of the island. He puts Locke through the same test he endured-kill an unloving parent, and then puts Locke in a place to manipulate others to achieve his ends, and then shoots him in the one place that won't kill Locke just to test his communion with the island. He also knows no one has as much to lose off-island as John Locke, and so he will never leave. Is the plan to have Locke defending the island from it's enemies within while Ben goes back and takes care of enemies without?

On the contrary, Jack pulling the trigger was completely in character. A gun-wielding Locke shows up again with rescue being so close (and life and death, in the case of Sun), combined with the fact that Jack is an unbalanced state, all adds up to a fairly explainable action by that character. Not only is it in keeping, but the writers haven't abandoned that moment - see Sayid's quiet dressing-down of Jack last episode.

the show was slow. At least then I really cared when something happened. It had a weight to it. Now, and I am willing to concede its just me, I just don't find myself caring as much. Scenes that should have oomph to them just don't. I feel as though if I'd seen Jack pull the trigger on Locke in previous seasons it would have been gripping. For me, this season, it just wasn't. Again, the show is still great, I just feel like its missing the mark in a way. Its not as gripping for me like it used to be. I feel like its going through the motions and the characters aren't being true to who they are. And still nobody has explained why, if Sayid, Kate and Jack have guns and they are pretty sure the new guys want to kill them, they still go on errands for them - trusting the new guys will hold their end of the bargain. These guys have guns and gas masks and are sneaky as fuck and you have this badass aoldier, a smart leader and a kickass chick with guns and they just go along. I don't buy it. I am first to admit however that I will not miss an ep until the SERIES finale, I just wish I cared more about what I was seeing. But that's just me...and that other guy.

I agree that the show is dealing with Jack's little episode, but I think currently those sequences from the season 3 finale that take place post-rescue set up that firing of the gun more than the stuff on the island to this point. Given the degree I trust Lost though, I fully expect that when the whole thing is seen in full, there will be sufficient explanation here.

I meant to say, did he say "if you bring Charlotte back safe, I will take you off this island" or "i will take you to the boat"? I thought he just said he would take them off the island. I think his wording was very important, maybe Sayid and Desmond on headed to somewhere other than the boat. Either for a good reason of a bad one. Maybe the shit has hit the fan on the boat because of Ben's mole and that is why neither Daniel of Charlotte wanted to go back to the boat. Just a thought.

I love everything about this show. I do admit though that this season does have a very different feel compared to the previous three. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It's just that it seems after three episodes, probably including the fourth,only a day and a half have passed by on the island so far but such insane things are going on in such a short time. This gives this season kind of a 24-type feel of break-your-neck speed pacing this season (well maybe not that extreme but possibly like deadwood, where one season was like a week in the show). I don't mind this at all but I can see why people feel like this season is different.

I really enjoy Fantastic Journey, uh I mean Lost but weren't there a whole slew of Others who didn't get sent on the beach ambush with Tom and who didn't accompany Ben to meet Jack and the group at the radio tower? If they don't care enough about their leader to at least send a small search party to find him after a few days, wouldn't they at least have moved back into the little village they formally occupied that Locke and his group went to? I would imagine having running water, real houses and indoor toilets would be preferable to wiping your ass with leaves while being rained on and chased by Polar bears. Naming a character CS Lewis is a little too cute... Also, did anyone else notice the name on Ben's fake passport? It was Dean Moriaty, the character based on Neal Cassady in Keuroac's On the Road. Someone on the writing staff has a sense of humor and speaking of that, how about hiring Darin Morgan to write an episode or two? As much as I enjoy the show, there is much to make fun of.

Forgot that in the world of Lost a single night passing can take 8 months our time. I discovered during the strike that most TV shows are better when they are available in their entirety on DVD so you can watch them without long breaks allowing you to forget what's happened. I certainly think that's the case for Lost.

Yeah, I think it's treading water. It's taken three episodes to even get to the 'rescue team' getting anyone off. And yeah the camp has split in two, blah blah blah. Lot's of walking, blah blah blah. More walking. I'm going get this person back. This is all stuff we've seen a thousand times on this show. They filled three shows with what could have been condensed to one if they paced it well. Instead they filled it with people walking around and looking for someone else. Kate and Jack go looking for hurt Naomi. Sawyer, Kate and Sayid go looking for Locke's Gang. Everyone walks around a lot. Seriously, this is one episode spread out to kill time. And I LOVE this show. I just feel I'm still in a holding pattern waiting for this season to actually kick in and have the changes promised by the finale actually happen. The flash forwards have been good, though thankfully, but they are so brief compared the island time, which is been there, done that.

Checkout spoilerslost for an interesting interview with Darlton..They go on the record and tell us we will know who is the in the coffin by the end of the season and what has happened to the people not rescued. And some other stuff about time travel, and alternate dimensions, etc, quashing a few fan theories it would seem.
Also they note that "the maxwell group", and everything else to do with 'find815' was pretty much made up by some internet company, and not canon, or anything to do with them.... My time with it feels slightly wasted.
I always think that the explanations for the mysterious on the show will not be anywhere near as outlandish as people suggest... e.g why are they stealing children? They can't get pregnant, and are running some tests. Similarly everyone on 815 is dead... some crazy alternate dimension? Nope probably just government cover up.

I don't think it's much of a spoiler really...I mean...Kate was "free" to go visit Jack last season at the airport...so it's kinda obvious she beats her wrap...or is still a fugitive...either way...she's not "playing house" with Big Bertha in the state pen.
Jimmy...please do not provoke node...you will not like node when he is angry. The opening 4 episodes of this season make last season's opening "mini-pod" seem like a 40 yard dash for quadruple amputees and 90+ elderly citizens. I don't think they are treading water in the least. Now that the "end date" for LOST is in sight...they don't have time to "tread water".
But you mentioned all the walking the cast does all over the island...what would be nice with the "enhanced repeats" they are showing before the new episode...would be a handy little map of the island that pops up to pinpoint WHERE on the island the scene is taking place from time to time. 4 seasons in...and I still have no idea how long it takes people to walk from say...the cockpit...to the Other's barracks. -

I too think the show has been moving a bit slow, but the begining of the season is always slow. Remember how slow the opening of seasons 2 and 3 were? It doesn't help that the identies of the Oceanic 6 and the revelation that Ben made it off the island was spoiled. AICN is definately a love-hate relationship.

I agree Ben has now become one of my favorite characters. He was always a good villian, but now he's cooler than ever. One of my favorite scenes from last week's episode was when Sayid found all of Ben's passports and foreign currency. He's like some sort of badass independent spy.

I don't think they were testing Dan for telepathy. I think Charlotte was testing Dan's memory, he could have some mental issues. She said she wanted to see if he could remember the cards, so he saw them before. And when we first met him in 'Confirmed Dead' he looked like a f'n basket case. Also with the kid playing Aaron- I doubt we will see much of the kid because they don't want to dig themselves into another whole with a child actor who ages too fast for the show's timeline.

Obviously he still loves Kate. Kate obviously stole Aaron. The legal stuff wasn't realistic, especially if it was a federal case, which made no sense--but either state or federal, Kate couldn't have just walked out a door with the matter signed and sealed. Obviously explains the Kate/Jack/son issues (Kate Jackson?) and why she's reluctant to go back to the island. Also, perhaps she fears for Aaron's safety if they DO go back.

I have a strong feeling she forgoes the warning and tells Kate to raise him off island till she is able to get off the island. I think the whole laundry scene was a forshadowing of that.

Everyone must know in present time that it's not really Kate's son because based on the kid's age they would know that he was born on the island. This all depends on how long after 92 days they ultimately get off the island but if not many thereafter they would also know that Kate wasn't pregnant (and showing) going on Oceanic 815 originally . I think Claire dies and asks Kate to take care of her son. Just don't know how they explain it off the island.

My least favorite of the opening 4 eps. It's good to answer the Kate question (if she's one of the 6, what happens with the criminal charges) and it had to be done. And we have the Miles/Ben reveal, so the mythology is moved forward slightly. But this one just didn't give me enough. I love Kate, but boy, KAte-centric is an understatement. I love the show, love the season, and still give it a 7/10, but IMO, they had to live up to an avg of about 9/10 for the 1st 3 eps. So - still better than 95% of TV, but not a top-end LOST. The Aaron reveal is quite a twist. Can't wait to find out what Ben is really all about.

"8 survivors that crashed on an island in the south pacific." the powers that be will also make it look like Aaron was on the plane registry. There is so much manipulation of the story of where these 6 crashed that Aaron's name being added to plane manifests will be an easy task. And as this show deals with space and time, they can very easily manipulate documentation via a little wormhole time travel. just you wait and see. too bad they can't go back in time and tell clair to fuck a handsome dude so aaron doesn't have to grow up ugly.

And I think the Ben that Sayid is working for is a Ben from the past who is trying to get back on the island.
Since we know there's a time-travel element to Lost, I think there's a major clue in Desmond's flashback episode from a season or two ago.
In Desmond's flashback, he had foreknowledge of the future (game score, etc). That tells me that after his time spent "out of time" on the island, he ended up back in the past. The only way he ended up there is if Sayid did as well, as the helicopter has disappeared from time.
I'm not sure how Ben got back to the past himself - but if there are now divergent timelines - one where 815 crashed killing everyone, one where 815 landed on the island, one with Desmond, Ben and Sayid in the past, and one with Jack, Kate, etc. in the future, then time is completely screwed.
Everyone needs to get back to the island to reestablish the timeline.

with ashoko to a degree, but at least Heroes achieved an entertaining, serialized show and I would make an effort to see it. BSG when it finally comes back is on a different level as is Lost, but Heroes was not bad. I have not been this hooked on serialized TV since season 3 of Angel...until LOST. Angel's last season was awesome too-but the fact it was cancelled pissed me off and I became disengaged from it. Jesus-that whole The Father will Kill the Son and Wesley getting his throat cut, surviving, only to be almost smothered by his best friend while lying in a hospital bed...that show was just unreal. Lost is giving me that same enthusiasm this season.

I don't think that is the consensus - but only a possiblity raised because if Jack's seemingly bad attitude toward Kate having the kid. Why would he be upset Kate has his Nephew? Island Aaron is about 3 months old. Future Aaron is about 2. Maybe the get off the island but are held somewhere else for a year or so? Because I would think Kate would have been pretty much immediately arrested and tried. Maybe I'm reading too much into it or there is more time-traveling to it. My bets, Claire gets on the helecopter (as Desmond said) she dies somehow, Kate takes Aaron and Claire is one of the ones who survived the crash but died later.

If we are to believe the article from the season finale than Jack's flash forward was in 2007 and we can use that as are latest date since season 4 flash forwards are before this event. Aaron seems to be 3 or 4 so its seems they are at least a little more than 2 years after the latest on island date

The show seems to be telegraphing things a lot more. This episode with the whole Claire/Kate/Aaron scene made it obvious he'd be the kid, and last week's whole scene with Sayid saying "They day I work for you [Ben], is the day I sell my soul", and then surprise surprise. These are awesome reveals, don't get me wrong, but we're smart enough to pick up on this stuff without a scene being devoted to these payoffs in the middle of the episode.

I guess now we know who Kate was referring to when she told Jack she had to go, because "He'll be wondering where I am". Theoretically, it could be a guy in her life, but Aaron seems more likely to be the "he" here, don't ya think?

But what I find remarkable is that Aaron had a very good vocabulary for a just-woken-up infant. I find it too easy how Kate left a trial, drove home, and came in like nothing happened. And please knock it off about the kid already. I saw what everyone saw--and questioned why they were bringing down's syndrome into the tv show. Then, realizing it's aaron, and seeing his face, we know it was a bad p.o.v. My point is this--it's one thing to call a baby ugly. It's another to criticize a baby for looking "mongoloid" or "retarded". Come on guys, grow up.

The aunt is the only one who knows who Claire's father is, as far as we know. He might find out if she dies and Jack has to talk to her aunt about it, but right now he doesn't know.

I've been thinking Jack was all depressed in the future because Kate's with Sawyer or another guy. Turns out she actually wants to be with him and he won't because of Aaron. I figure Claire died and Kate took him in. I'm sure Jack feels responsible for Claire and won't see Aaron out of guilt. Get over it man--that's your nephew. Or half nephew, whatever. Wonder if he ever finds out Claire's his half sister.

because he causes Claire's death. If something he does during their escape from the island leads to Claire being killed, then seeing the baby would be a very painful reminder. It's pretty obvious in last season's finale that he feels like he made the wrong decision and he's not ready at the time of Kate's trial to face that guilt.

More then I have already hated him since Season 1 , but man they sure did it tonight. The pressures getting to Locke and he's about to crack, the guy is getting more and more unlikable as we get new eps, He is totally becoming Ben as a crazy Dictator and I don't care what Locke says that is what he is becoming. I'm just glad I was never a Locke fan I would find it hard to stick with that nutjob during times like these. TEAM JACK!

Aaron was never gonna testify, the lawyer was gonna ask her to bring jack to the stand... I think in another line of thinking she said "dont bring my son into this." She just kinda jumped the gun, infact the whole time she seems really jumpy... her main objective is to protect and be there for Aaron.

I'm on Team Ben. Jack and Locke both get on my nerves. I love the show and the characters, but both characters need a kick in the nutsack they're so righteous. Ben never annoys me. The difference, I think, is that Jack and Locke think they're right all the time with little or no evidence. Ben makes statements that are either lies (which are fun) or truths based on all that he knows. I dunno. I just like it when Locke and Jack get smacked around, metaphorically.

The 3rd book of the trilogy is called The Divine Invasion, and if I remember correctly, concerns a group of people trying to smuggle God into a/the universe (controlled by Satanic forces). God is smuggled in as an unborn fetus in order to evade detection. After he's born... well, I won't get into it. But could Aaron be "god" in this story, smuggled off the island? BTW the book Valis itself deals with (as much of Dick's work does) with the nature of reality.

It was a good surprise ending. they had me convinced Kate was imprengnate on the island and right up to the end, even when they showed the kid with blonde hair, I was expecting her to call him "james".then, gotcha, with one word, two syllables, that revealed so much. Awesome.Though isn;t spending half an episode tricking the audience kind of a waste of time? not that I didn't enjoy it, but then I liked the Nikki and Paulo tales from the crypt episode.

I totally agree with the person who complained about American's planns to air "Lost" at 10:00 PM and "Grey's Anatomy" at 9:00."Grey's" originally debuted in the 10:00 pm time slot (on Sundays) and was better then. "Lost" originally debuted in an 8:00 pm time slot (on wednesday) and never should have left it.You put the adult shows on late at night and the kids shows on early. It's not just common sense, it's the law.

Seems to me Claire is among the "dead" (possibly literally) of flight 815 and I have a feeling she's not one of the two that apparently survived the crash, but didn't make it off the island, according to The Lie - leaving Jack a little pissed with Kate for going around pretending Aaron is hers - theirs - his...
Think about it.
They crash 2004. They're found a year later, in 2005 - after baby Aaron was born - and it is now 2007. The kid is two. A two year old can say "hey mommy" no problem, and the kid looks 2 years old to me anyway...
Here's the thing.
That guy in Australia was freaked out for a reason. He KNOWS Claire's kid must not be raised by someone else! If Claire is actually still alive on the island, while this big Lie is being perpetrated, THEY HAVE TO GO BACK so that Claire can raise Aaron - like she's supposed to. This makes that moment with Claire and the fortune teller all the more important - it's like the scene with Des time travelling back to London and the woman telling him he's about to do something he's not supposed to do!
Makes much more sense of the scene from last season where Jack wants to go back but Kate doesn't. Why would she? She's ready to start a new life, free as a bird - it will be the fact that the true mother of her child is still alive on that island is the reason she ends up being forced to go back by Jack, who finds out Claire is his half-sister and that he is in fact related to Aaron, but in a way contrary to popular belief... -

Walt grows up big real fast and becomes Mr Matthew Abbadon (the gatekeeper to Hell/Sheol) under the guidance of kindly Uncle Ben.
Kate wants to protect Aaron because he's the infant God smuggled in to avoid detection. Kate knows that the story that no woman could have kids on the island was a lie -- the reality was that Ben, knowing the prophecy, was killing all of the babies before they could be born. She's doing everything she can to hide and protect Aaron.
Miles "The Ghost Whisperer" knows the Devil when he sees him...and boy is he loaded!!!

We know 1) that Oceanic 815 was flying from Sydney to Los Angeles. 2) In the first Ep, the pilot tells them that the plane had lost radio contact six hours after take off, turned back for Fiji and hit turbulence. The plane was a thousand miles off course when it crashed.and...
In Ep 4.2 - The newscast reported and 'showed' the plane wreckage and bodies at the bottom of the Sundra Trench off the coast of Bali in the Indian Ocean. The Indian Ocean.

In Ep 4.4 - The lawyer says the 6 survivors crashed and survived in the South Pacific.The South Pacific.Welll....That means the rescue location is broad public knowledge..Sure, I get that there usually isn't a lot of geography involved in Lawyering, but you can't explain away as a whoops the 2800 mile (at its closest from Sydney) geographical error of Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. So how did/do the Oceanic 6 explain getting to the South Pacific, which adds another 2000 (at least) miles and brings the disparity to over 5000 miles from where the public where told the wreckage/bodies were found? Surf the Tsunami? hmmm? For that matter how does the public buy in to the newscast explanation that a flight from Sydney to LAX heading North by East winds up sunk 2770 miles North by West in the opposing ocean? You would think problems or not, weather or not, the pilot would have noticed flying over a couple of thousand miles of the outback instead of the big empty. So either the flash forwards in Ep 4.4 are in a different timeline than Ep 4.2, or the writers just boned their continuity. Can't wait to see how they resolve showing the wreckage 5000 miles from where the Lawyer says the survivors were found.

The scene with Locke Miles and the grenade was jaw dropping. Not just because of the grenade either. Locke thinks he’s “responsible for the well-being of” the island. And he’s as evil in being that as Ben was/is. “There’s no use having rules if there’s no punishment for breaking them”. Sticking a grenade in your mouth and pulling the pin is a hell of a punishment. And that last line “Enjoy your breakfast”...perfect.

I don’t know if this is a big thing or not, but the doors inside every house I’ve ever lived in open into the room. The door Kate opened to leave Sawyer opened out, not in.

The public has to know that Aaron is not Kate's baby. In order to have a two year old that age, Kate would have had to have been VERY pregnant when she was arrested and put on the plane in Australia, so Kate's Mom has to know that is not her natural grandchild. I'm pretty sure the marshall would have reported a pregnancy. Unless the public is aware of time moving more slowly on the island, or there's some wacky time travel thing going on ....

Last week showed there ARE wacky time travel things going on, that's why the clocks were out of synch on the rocket. The Island moves slower in time, therefore a month on the island could be a year in the rest of the world. For the public not to question the baby further re-enforces that the 6 only were gone a few months from their perspective, but were stranded for years from the world's perspective. On top of that, Kate's trial has to have taken place about a year or two AFTER they all escape, because in the Island's timeline, Aaron is only 3 months old. Either that or leaving the island makes you age faster to catch up to real time.

As unpopular as Grey's Anatomy is on AICN, its a proven ratings winner that averages 20 million viewers. It also has proven to do well against CSI which is also another huge ratings grabber. Why would ABC risk putting Lost against easy to follow CSI? Lost will kill at 10pm. Its up against nothing that can kill it like Idol. That's why moving Lost against Idol on Tues or Wed would kill the show. Quit bitching about 10pm. Get a fucking DVR. Btw I got the Applewhite reference above :) also last night was another solid episode. And its obvious the lawyer was talking about Jack testifying not the baby. Come on. We shouldn't need everything spelled out. And the baby didn't look "retarded". Remember that half of the douchbags that called him names haven't had kids yet...

Claire is dead. Jack can't see the baby because he's reminded of her death. He's affected profoundly by Claire's death because he/they found out they shared a father and/or her death was horrific.
That's my assumption, anyway. And I'm spoiler free...mostly. -
Remember they found the plane on the ocean floor but weren't going to recover the bodies. The old pilot dude calls and says "That wasn't the pilot", and suddenly he's part of the special team going to the island.
So, in the flash forwards, everyone else isn't dead. Someone stuffed the wreckage with a bunch of dead bodies from the island and dump it in the ocean to be "found" and those that do leave make up the "there were only 8 survivors" story. -

Haven't read the entire thread, so forgive me if someone's already thought of this, but I have my own 2 cents about the interaction between Miles and Ben.
What if "3.2 million" was code for something? Maybe Miles is Ben's Man on the Boat? Miles tells Kate he's exactly where he wants to be, because HE'S working Locke on behalf of Ben. The "3.2" could be giving Ben some sort of information, similar to "tell my sister I love her". They went out of their way to make 3.2 a big deal, and it's just too odd of a number to not mean SOMETHING.
Also, about Kate raising Aaron: Would they not, if Kate was alledging that Aaron were her natural son when the Oceanic 6 were rescued, do DNA testing to prove that? This is a fugitive with fraud as one of her crimes. I can't imagine they would just take her word for it that he's her son. And if they ADMIT he's not, then he would go to a foster home. Right? There has to be an explanation for all this... Right? Anyone? -
The powers that be of LOST said in a podcast that we should use VALIS as a guide, so possibly God (or some facsimile thereof) was sneaked onto the island in Claire's womb (part of the book’s plot). It's a stretch to say (well, any of this) God may have been banished from the island, but if this hypothesis is correct, he's off it. Is he now trying to get back?
Is Jack afraid to see Aaron because he's afraid of him...afraid of being convinced to go back? Are there things going on in the real world that Aaron is doing to make sure he gets back to the island (think back to Hurley and Jack in Ep1...something Hurley said like I think it'll do anything to...)?
Does this fit in the big picture of LOST?

The pacing was back on track to where it was in past seasons. Now, thankfully, things that do happen are built up properly and are much more gripping for it. The first 3 eps seemed to rushed.
Anyway, in the conversation between Miles and Ben, why 3.2 million? It all seemed odd. Then the 2 days ...oh ok I'll give you a week (7 days) could Miles and Ben be talking in code? Is he giving Ben the coordinates to leave the island? Or the coordinates of the ship? Also, did Sawyer screw Kate over or was that all part of their plan? -
I think it will be as simple as he reminds Jack of something bad (probably Claire's death), All this talk about him being "God" is getting a little too deep. Only cryptic thing about it is what the psychic said, which could be interpreted as "Stay off the plane". Wasn't Claire originally flying to go somewhere to deliver the baby for the surrogate parents?
I've always thought the key to all of this is Ben Linus and the time anomaly stuff. -

was it just me, or was it fairly obvious that Kate's kid was going to turn out to be Aaron. I thought the laundry scene was a fairly obvious set-up and grew annoyed at how they kept reffering to Kate's son in vauge terms. This was the first big reveal that I kinda saw coming. More interesting to me was the card game Daniel and CSL were playing and the missing helicopter. also, i've said it before, and I'll say it again, I really don't think the freighter is how the Oceanic 6 get off the island. If it is, it's not going to happen too soon. Aaron looked to be about 2 or 3, so I'm thinking there will be quite a bit of action on the island before the "rescue". Yeah, there's the advanced aging thing that is apparnetly happening with Walt, but still I'd be quite surprised if they get off the island before the end of next season. I really hope they don't kill Claire - she's purdy, and keeps getting purdier. BTW, isn't that tsunami that happened in 2004 supposed to make an apperance any day now? I wonder how that will be handled in the show.

This show better not end up like some book which has already been published just with a few twists and turns thrown in so it doesnt look like pure plagerism. LOST should be its own story PERIOD.
Also I'm definately leaning towards that not being Claire's Aaron and Kate really is prego on the island. I wont be surprised at all if it is Claire's son but this show has a habit of trying to get the viewer to make false assumptions like that. -

Last night's episode was definitely the best of the season, and probably the best for the last couple for me. So many great things happened... my favorite of course being Locke and the grenade. Nice.

Did anyone else notice that the actor that played Kate's lawyer was also in the movie Frequency? If you haven't seen Frequency it has time-travel elements as the foundation of the story. His characters name in Frequency was Jack Shepard. One more strange connection that the creators of Lost have made.

While I am loving this season, I wasn't as impressed with last night's outing. I knew from about 10 minutes in that Aaron was the "he" Kate had to get back to in the flash-forward last season end. And several of us predicted the exact dialogue when Kate finally got home..."Hi, Aaron" about the halfway mark. They threw in a red herring or three with "no...I'm not pregnant" and "I know you don't want to see the baby" remarks from Kate, but I was absolutely certain Aaron was the 5th of the "Oceanic 6" the whole episode. I did dig John Locke and the "grenade breakfast" he served Miles! Still, I can't complain too much...it's good stuff!

Its a pretty obscure reference, and more complicated than it needs to be, but its basically comes from bartering societies where people trade services and goods. Eggs were really shitty things to barter for, because everyone had chickens, therefore everyone had eggs, therefore they just weren't worth that much. Traveling salesmen would pass word along to other salesmen that a town was an 'Eggtown', which meant, don't go there. But sometimes they would just say this to keep other salesmen away from that town (so they could keep all the business to themselves).
So its all about deceptions and bad deals, which fits nicely with the themese we're seeing this season. -

Jack claims that they were found on an island in the pacific, but the news claims the plane was found in the indian ocean. How does that fit together? I find it really hard to believe that the writers would make such a mistake literally 2 episodes apart...
Also, I thought the baby looked strange at first, too, but it was just because he was asleep and shown at a weird angle. When he woke up, he looked like a perfectly normal baby.
God I hope claire doesn't die... Also, wouldn't it be kind of underwhelming? I mean the first thing you think of when you see Aaron in Kate's care is Claire is dead. I hope it's not that simple.
FINALLY, I may have to start avoiding these talkbacks for a while. Fuckers have been posting that Aaron was going to be in Kate's care for weeks and frankly I'm pretty sick of the jackasses who feel the need to blow it for everyone else... -

I've been thinking ever since I rewatched The Economist a few days ago that SAYID, not Michael, is the man on the boat. It's going to turn out to be a time travel thing. That's why they couldn't find the helicopter in last night's episode. They put Michael's name in the credits so everyone starts guessing it's going to be him, and then his episode turns out to be something else and the man on the boat is Sayid. This is the beginning of him working for Ben.

I love that everytime Locke thinks he's found himself, he runs into a brick wall and gets frustrated all over again. It plays into what someone said earlier about Locke and Jack always assuming they're right when they don't actually know anything. If they just made Locke in an omnipotent ultimate Island Protector, that would be kind of boring for 40 more episodes. Watching his arrogance get the better of him, then seeing him get mindfucked again by Ben is waaay more interesting.

Egg-town is a pejorative term that refers to the days of bartering, during the Great Depression. A traveling salesman would have to barter his candy or tobacco or shoelaces for different commodities. Invariably, the second salesman ventures into Bogart only to find it is truly an egg-town. He is either persuaded to not visit a town that has good customers or is tricked into visiting a town that can only offer eggs. The term "egg-town" represents a deal with undesirable outcomes in either case.

People are getting twisted around about how they "made a mistake" by having Jack say that the plane crashed in the South Pacific, when earlier this season they said it was discovered in the Indian Ocean. I thought it was fairly obviously implied that, once the Oceanic 6 are discovered and made public, Oceanic and the rest of the world will discover that the original "crashed" plane in the bottom of the IO was actually a fake. Obviously, someone will have some splainin' to do, but they would have to admit SOMETHING instead of just saying that 6 people floated to the top of the Indian Ocean and survived there for X amount of months/years.

When Kate find Miles in the shed, right before she looks in we see Miles sitting in a chair. I'm convinced there was a shadow standng next to him, right when Kate looks in the shadow moves. My wife says she didnt notice this, and she deleted the episode before i could stop her. If anyone still has it on their DVR can you check this? Might make more sense when Miles says he is right where he wants to be.

I was thinking that it had something to do with them leaving the island and never coming back in the flash-forward. Them getting a bad deal by not seeing theyre friends again. Kate taking the deal at the end and not being able to go anywhere with Aaron. Im not sure, what do you think? I dont know what to take from that.

At first the purgatory theory seemed way too obvous, but now i dont know. I doubt the show is going to deal with heavan and hell, but everone who seems dead has been alluded to actually being alive. Charlie dies but he vists Hurly, Jacks dad is supposedly dead but when Jack is drunk in the hospital he alludes to his father being upstairs (which means alive and well). Now we have Miles who is able to talk to dead people. On top of that the britch chick who is supposed to be dead is obviously the person on the other end of the walkie talkie. Any opnions?

...the Chicken or the Egg? That is the question that we're all overlooking. In the opening, Locke tells Ben that "these are the last two eggs". Later on he explains the blood on his hands by telling Kate that he "just killed a chicken". Was it the last chicken on the island? If so, why would Locke kill it? Everyone knows that it would be advantageous to keep the chicken alive in order to produce more food for the community. The title "Eggtown", and this little "easter egg" of a plot diversion is a clue. The island is indeed an Eggtown. A place on the earth where time does not adhere to the normal rules, and where one can never be sure of the proper sequence of events. The dead rise and come back to life. Children grow older unexpectedly. Those with fatal diseases and crippling injuries revert back to the state prior to their diagnosis/accident. What we are seeing and taking for granted as truth is only a slice of truth taken from some time in each of these inhabitants lives. So what did come first? Jacob or Aaron?

When Eko encountered his 'brother' right before he died, Yemi chastised Eko, saying, "You talk to me as though I was your brother", which implied that the island can create manifestations of people (or things) important to the Losties (Jack's dad, Kate's horse, Hurley's imaginary friend, etc.). I've been assuming that these manifestations have something to do with the smoke monster, but I could be wrong.
As for the off-island 'sightings', Jack was in a drunken, drug-induced haze when he referred to his father being upstairs, and Hurley has had a history of hallucinations, so I don't know if those two incidents really constitute proof that any dead people are really alive. -

in one flash forward Jack is a bearded basket case who is in trouble. In another flash forward Jack is a well respected doc who is called in as a witness. I doubt its a timeline thing becuase the basket case Jack is really tore up over what happened, the other good standing Jack seems to be doing good.

The various jack's we've seen in flash-forwards are obviously on different parts of the timeline, with crazy-bearded Jack being the furthest along into the future that we've seen so far. There were all sorts of hints in the Hurley flash-forward that this was the case (Jack commenting that he was thinking of growing a beard; Jack mixing himself a screw-driver during Hurley's carchase). i dont' think any of that is really in doubt.
I wonder if some of you people actually even watch the show you're commenting about. -
In the second to last lost mobisold Juliet had a yellow envelope that she was going to show the old lady but promised she couldn't say anything about. When she was about to take what was out of the envelope it ended, I could be forgetting but was whatever in this package shown to us in lost season 3? was it the x-rays of Ben that showed he had cancer? or was it not yet answered and if it wasn't answered then what could it be?

Not obvious to me. In next week's episode they showed "panic" on the heli and Sayid asking why they were flying into a thunderhead. Seems to me they either steered around it and had time trouble or steered into it and had weather trouble.

I don't want to start a stupid argument about Nozz-a-La Cola, but it didn't play a "prominent" role in Wizard and Glass. It was mentioned once, and talked about for a second, then dismissed. I have no idea if it's on the side of the balloon or not, I just wanted to clear up the fact that it wasn't a "big deal" in the Stephen King book.

Without getting into whether it is or isn't a spoiler that the producers released all six names before the season began, I'm saying No. Aaron was not part of the Flight 815 manifest, which, in my opinion, keeps him from being considered. Also, does the public even KNOW he's Aaron (Claire's Aaron), or do the O6 spin the story as if he is Kate's natural child? Which leads me back to my question from earlier, which no one has touched on: Would they not conduct a DNA test if a fugitive charged with fraud claimed to have given birth to a child while on the island? How do they get around this?

I don't remember seeing this before, but do we really have any idea how many years after 815 crashed that this trial took place? Even if we did, I'm not really sure that it matters. We know that there's some kind of time anomaly going on with the island. For all we know, the place the Oceanic 6 returned to would line up with Kate getting pregnant and having a baby on the island. According to Jack's testimony, it seems pretty clear that no one believes Kate was very pregnant (if pregnant at all) when she saved the "other 7 survivors."
If Claire died and everyone knows the baby is not actually Kate's, the Oceanic 6 could easily say that her last dying wish was for the Kate to take care of the baby. I seriously doubt too many people would contest that. -

It wouldn't matter how many people would contest it. It would matter that the State of California would not give custody of a 2-year-old (or around that) baby to a fugitive facing fraud and murder charges. The main point, IMHO, of this flash forward was to show us how Kate got around all the legal trouble she had. They can't just explain it all away, and totally ignore a serious custody issue of a kid that doesn't belong to her. Sure, the public may not raise hell about "Claire's dying wish", if that were the case, but that wouldn't matter.

I agree, and I assume the story from the O6 will be that Aaron belongs to Kate. My question is, wouldn't they test to make SURE he was hers? I just don't see them trusting a fugitive when they all get back just because she says she got pregnant. I would imagine that the authorities would want to ENSURE that he was her child so, if for no other reason, she COULDN'T use him as some sort of sympathy card in her impending trial.

Or maybe even if someone might notice that there was a pregnant woman on the flight, and SOMEONE put 2+2 together and ask the question... Maybe I'm reading too much into it, or just making up a question where one actually doesn't exist, I just keep thinking that it would take more than merely saying that he belonged to Kate for the authorities to buy it.

I have NOT read the spoilers, because that ruins the fun for me, but I'm guessing Sun or Jin gets off the island, but not both of them. From a storytelling perspective, I think it adds a lot more conflict if only one of them makes it off. My money's on Sun, but who knows? It'd be kind of awesome to see Jin as a total badass again, standing toe-to-toe or back-to-back with Sayid.

In fact, there's a bizzare reason why I read it. I heard that Phillip K. Dick wrote Total Recall, Minority Report and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Blade Runner), so I decided to go pick up one of his novels at Barnes & Noble. So I get there and go straight to the bathroom as I always do so I'm not standing there having to piss while shopping and on the way from the restroom to the sci-fi section... I'm walking by the philosophy section and a big black book with the name BORGES grabbed my attention. I didn't stop to pick it up but I just caught my eye and I looked at it while I passed. When I got to the sci-fi section and was wondering which PKD book to get I randomly picked one up and on the back of it was written something like, 'looks like the US has there very own Borges on their hands.' Yeah, coincidence? Anyways I picked up VALIS went home and read it and one of the themes in the book was coincidence - the exact kind that I had just experienced. Like the main character would hear a word on TV and it would tie in with a letter he just got. Crazy sht like that. Another concept was the idea that the Roman Empire had never ended. And at one point the main character can see Rome superimposed over modern day Santa Monica. - Kinda reminds me of the LOST image with the island on top and the city superimposed in the ocean. That being said, I'm pretty sure I'm tapped into the universe now and can explain LOST as well as the meaning of life. If anyone wants to know, just as :P Of course it's all about the journey, isn't it?

No, I was actually considering the time-differential on the island. I just still think that they would make her take a maternity test to prove motherhood of the child, even if all logic and reason showed that she was, in fact, the mother. But, again, I may just be creating a question where (for once) there really isn't one.

Chill out dude, I'm not rubbing it to anyone...I read about the O6 pretty early on, and not on a spoiler sight, and for a long time thought it was common knowledge. Only in the last few weeks have I been seeing people start making wild guesses about who the remaining 2 are. Sorry if you thought I was bragging or anything.
In all honesty, I don't really read that many spoilers, besides things like early cast lists, which sometimes give clues to who a given episode will focus on. There's all kinds of shit on Lostpedia that I stay the hell away from.
And for the record, regardless of who else gets off the island, I'd love to see a superspy team-up between Sayid and Jin. That would be pretty gnarly. -
Also remember, Kate is in the middle of the big media circus surrounding her trial. They didn't really imply that Jack or Hurley have to deal with the cameras and attention. I think its something quite specific to Kate and her trial.

Has any one else noticed the book Sawyer is reading when Kate comes to his house. It is the "Invention of Morel" by Adolfo Bioy Casares - as book about a man who is stranded on an idland where "others" are all around him acting in a mysterious way. He finds a machine powered by a huge amount of electricity that projects memories of the dead onto the island - recordings of men and women who wished to become immortal. The rooms beneath the island are divided into eight zones one is full of machines, one is full of control equipment and one is full of water. The man falls in love with one of the memory projections but eventually leaves the island alone. The plot has a lot in common (more than a lot actually) to the plot of Lost. I will post more when I re-read the book. Reef out.

XANADU on the other hand is one of my favorites and last night I was just happy that that was the choice that Hurley made. But now that I think about it there are similarities. Keira is a muse, a daughter of Zeus, and therefore immortal. That could relate to either Jacob or perhaps Richard Alpert (she doesn't age either). Also at one point in the film Sonny, her love interest, has to jump through a wall to get to some lasery place that's meant to be what you might call "the ether". Could be a place between worlds (or heaven and earth) too. Anyhow the point is he's trying to get her back. At the point when Hurley started playing the film, it's the end of the movie when the club "Xanadu" has opened and Keira appears as the lead in a huge production number only to beam herself into space. Damn, I love that movie. Anyway it has little to do with the Xanadu from the poem. She recites it but the movie's it's own thing. But it is about immortals and there is travelling between different worlds and greek mythology has already come up on LOST. I can't come up with much of anything but it could be just one more hint that LOST island is stuck between dimensions or something. -
- I think the psychic comment that said she must raise the child on her own was only about her not putting the child up for adoption in the flashback. I don't think it applies to either the threat that the Others might grab the kid and raise it (in previous seasons) or this Kate situation.
- I don't necessarily think Claire is dead; it's possible they got off the island on the helicopter and it couldn't carry the weight of another adult. I think it's more plausible that Jack doesn't want to see the child because he feels responsible for the choice to leave the island, abandoning the other castaways and separating Claire from her child.
- My guess is the phone call detailing that the helicopter hasn't reached the boat is a red herring. They clearly show them on the boat in the previews. It's probably just another aspect of the whole time dilation thing between the island and the world outside the island. The preview even had a shot had the pilot guy heading right into a storm while Sayid protested, which would indicate that he was following the heading he was instructed to regardless of the weather.
- What does seem odd is that there appears to be a scene with Faraday, who is on the island, and Desmond, who left on the helicopter. A flash forward perhaps?
- The specific 3.2 million dollar amount definitely seemed like code. It just seemed very odd that Ben would say "why not 3.1 or 3.3" if it were truly code. Then again, that could be more code and that Miles is really his man on the boat. A person who can speak to ghosts is exactly what someone who can no longer to Jacob would need.
- Someone above said that the preview shows the cabin and an eye inside that appears to be Desmond's. If that's true and the figure that Hurley saw in the cabin in the last episode was Jack's dad, I'm starting to think that the cabin is somewhere where the dead on the island go. If you remember, in an earlier season, Desmond should have died when the hatch blew up and just ended up waking up naked somewhere else. Perhaps he did and that is why he's in the cabin in the preview. If so, I wouldn't be surprised if we see Charlie shooting heroin in the corner of the cabin soon enough.
- The eggtown salesmen terminalogy seems like an obvious option, but it doesn't seem to fit right to me. A situation with two bad options idea seems like a stretch as a good description of this episode. Every Lost episode can probably be described that way. And the explanation doesn't really connect to the eggs or the chicken in the story.
- Another possibility is that Eggtown is a metaphor for what Locke is doing. The others' camp used to be a well-run, self-sufficient place as evidence by the fact it even had eggs. Locke killing the chicken = destroying self-sufficiency = destroying what the others have built/accomplished/are trying to do. Why else would they emphasize both that they were the last two eggs and that he killed the chicken? (Then again, CinematicAdvance's explanation about the chicken and the egg causality is pretty cool too, albeit a bit trippy.)
- DwightSchrute, I don't think they'd do a paternity test if they had absolutely no indication that it could be someone else's child. Simply saying she was pregnant when arrested would be a plausible explanation. I don't think being a fugitive would make a difference. To even get the test, you'd probably need a court order based on a plausible reason to challenge paternity of the child and relevance to the case.

Maxwell's Hammer - I too thought the O-6 was common knowledge - as I have posted over and over Novaman5000, WITH Spoiler tags just in case - Carlton and Damon verified the O-6 before the season began - Kristin from E was one of the non-spoiler sites to break that info so, no, she does not believe Aaron to be one of the 6. If you want to spoil yourself, scroll up, I posted SPOILERS and gave the O-6 again for those who want to know. Most have guessed it. It's not Aaron and it is 2 original castaways. A future EP (7?) gives a big clue because it is a name tied to another child (other than Aaron and NOT Kevin Johnson) Nuff said. Dwight, I think you're right - 3.2 was a weird # and I wondered in post about that earlier. Maybe not a code, but a number that means something tied to Miles - Ben's response was one of confusion ("Why 3.2? Why not 3.3, 3.4, 3.5?"), so he obviously does not know. We may find out Miles isn't just an extortionist - because he is asking for the exact amount he needs for something important to many others. Another flashback I assume will answer this.

alot will have changed when Ben is reunited with Richard and the group he leads to the Temple. Ben may not be exactly welcomed anymore and Richard may be the de facto leader. I am not sure how it would work, but I have a theory that the island somehow affects children and how they age on the island. This could be used to explain Walt's aging and also why Aaron appears to be 3 or 4 when he (more than likely) should only be a year old.
Also: what happened to all of the children that were stolen by the Others back in Season 1 or 2? Are they maybe all grown up now? -

came out and dropped the mini-spoiler that "bearded, addict Jack" is about 1 and a half years after the crash on the island. So if rescue is at about 3 1/2 months, Jack's sanity holds for close to year as he perpetuates the big lie. As Kate said - something like, I've heard you tell that story so many times I'm beginning to think you believe it. Obviously it gets to him. And that puts Aaron at about 2 as well. So Fox was probably not jiving.

There as a moment of realization. At 1st -he's just an Arab at an exclusive, secluded resort. Playing a round, relaxing. Then they talk and he mentions the O-6...you see it in his face. "Oh, Fuck!" "I'll just be moving on now, forget the bet...never mind I LOVE to wager as I Challenged you earlier"... Too late. Sayid drops his name, then drops him. He recognized him allright. But it took that moment whn the O-6 was mentined...and then it was too late.

on the Lostpedia episode summary, it states that Charlotte is testing Daneil's memory when they're playing with the cards (subsequently indicating that he was experiencing some kind of memory loss). I was kind of under the impression that he was trying to use some kind of psychic powers to guess what the cards were (which would instead indicate that Daniel has some kind of psychic powers). Is there anything to indicate one interpretation over another? It kind of seems like a significant difference.
And I'm going to bed, so please wait until approximatley 10:00 tomorrow morning before supplying an answer. -

Sooooooo if you were on an island where time went slower how would you keep track of how many days were going by while you were there? What if 108 min equals one day off the island and the importance of pushing the button is to keep track of the outside world. Also 108 min minus 60 min in an hour equals 48 which is the number of survivors. I have a feeling that Daniel is autistic and there to drop some mad science and math sense that the wrong people want to abuse. The island is curing his autism which is why he is not acing the card tricks and Charolette is trying to help.

Is by its nature an emotive disability. Autism and memory, well, if anything memory is the same if not better in autistics as they internalize everything. Don't confuse savants (rainman). Still, learning in autistics has been shown to be normal. Its emotion and social cues they struggle with. I like where you are going with this though. Danny is definately...different.

in picking a theory, whether it be Axis Mundi and the religous aspect or string theory w/ the science path, it seems as though science and fact are testing the faith of the island and its inhabitants. the rolls are becoming cyclical in that the losties are becoming more like the 'Others'. now new science threats comes in like Charolette and Danny. I can almost see Danny heading in the direction of the losties and siding w/ them. It truly has become science vs faith

In 4.2 Locke was ready to smite Ben and only relents when Ben proves that he has info on the Freighter people, perhaps a man on board. Now during 4.4 Locke has Ben (lets not forget the Guy who gut shot Locke and left him for dead among rotting corpses 2 days ago) captive and asks him for info on the freighter people, and Ben basically says "I'm telling you, Ya pussy"
What does Locke do? Pistol whip him? Send "this little piggy to market"? Face rape him? No, he doesn't do a damn thing. He can't even manage to get out of hearing distance before he cracks into a bitch fit.
God Damn, I want to like Locke, his story has been the most compelling. But it seems like the writers keep reverting his character back to the guy who lost his faith and fell from grace with the gods.
I'm tired of that. I want to see him keep his momentum when his character ascends. I want to see him as a Bad Ass Man of Faith. I want to see the hunter, not the gatherer. The Sheppard who would protect his flock with guns, grenades, and dynamite.
I really hope that John was headed to his basement with a briefcase full of pain after he served Miles his breakfast.

There it is then. Pretty much official proof that time is moving slower on the island. Strange they would throw that in the sneak peek. Maybe because we have guessed for so long they figured it wouldn't matter. The Desmond one has me very intrigued though. Hopefully this ep should be more eventful.
My theory as to why a short haired Desmond is talking to a long haired Daniel (who he calls Alisdair?)...maybe Des has lost his memory but arrived a while in the future, after Daniel is off the island (because Daniel went on the right bearing). -
I LOVE it when Ben lays the verbal smackdown on Locke and Locke goes all crazy. I love it when Locke loses faith and falls. Because he's a self-righteous prick. I like the character, I do. I want to see him be a hunter. I want to see him complete his spiritual quest. But what I want more is for him to stop thinking or acting like he knows anything more than anybody else or that he "belongs" there more than anybody else. I want him to get kicked off his high horse so hard that the wind whistling in his ears as he falls bursts his eardrums. As much as Kate's love triangle bullshit drives me crazy, I really, REALLY wanted her to kick Locke in the balls for that stupidity last episode. "This isn't a democracy, Kate". "I want you gone." And I was just sitting in my chair silently screaming, "Kick his ass, Kate! You've got the moves!"

If he does have brain damage, memory loss, etc maybe this is why he doesn't know why he is crying back in episode 2 when he sees the plane. His subconcious does, but he can't remember.

I don't think Kate is trying to say she is looking after Claire's baby because Claire didn't survive the crash - she is definitely saying Aaron is her baby - and I think the implication is that it is supposed to be Jack's baby too, maybe?
Point being it's supposed to be hers and that's why her mother - the grandmother - wants to see the child and not someone else. If her mother thought it was someone else's child, she wouldn't have as much invested in him - enough to, say, not testify against his mother and send her to prison.
Also, about the title, I originally thought it might be because the episode featured a lot of eggs - "the last" eggs that were Ben's, Kate's eggs, which admittedly are really still an open question but featured nonetheless, Sun's eggs which may be about to kill her, Miles' breakfast "egg" which may be about to kill him, I dunno maybe more I've missed...
I like the idea of a deal gone wrong sorta thing from the bartering reference to "eggtown", too, coz there were lots of deals this episode!
If Kate ends up, like Jack and Hurley before her, having to go back then that deal she made to go nowhere for ten years is gonna suck, ain't it? -

I actually thought - and you might find this a birrova stretch - when Charlotte said Faraday was improving his memory, he was trying to count cards. OK stay with me here - yes maybe he's brain damaged or autistic or maybe he's a time traveller who has to keep sorting out memories like in Butterfly Effect or whatever - but what if he's just teaching himself how to count cards, as an experiment? He starts off shit at it, like most of us, but continues to do the tests - seeing no real progress, as you'd expect, until he reaches the island, and suddenly he's actually making progress?
Also, the flashforwards seem to contradict each other? As people have already pointed out, a plane is found in the WRONG ocean with EVERYONE on board, and suddenly the O-6 appear and say EIGHT people survived the crash ON AN ISLAND - there's gotta be a lot of people going WTF?? and I think maybe some of those people might have been at that court case, protesting maybe an obvious cover-up of something bigger than anyone's being told about... -
Faraday's memory improving may be a sign of the island healing a damaged brain - like someone who's suffered from memory loss, or who's symptoms include memory loss...
When he saw the footage of the sunken 815, some hidden memory was possibly triggered, buried beyond where he could consciously find it - maybe due to memory loss that can be repaired by the healing powers of the island?

I remember the pink laser beams was something Dick claimed to have been hit by himself and if it's the book I'm thinking of, one of the characters is loosely based on K.W. Jeter - who wrote the "official" sequels to Bladerunner (the movie, not the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? which is different). If I'm not mistaken, there's also reference to a very Man-Who-Fell-To-Earth-like movie featuring a rather David-Bowie-like superstar in the book, but that's all rather besides the point, I guess... -

One point will always remain despite the fact the Big Bang Model is a broadly accepted theory for the origin and evolution of our universe. It postulates that 12 to 14 billion years ago, the portion of the universe we can see today was only a few millimeters across. The question? Where did the little bit the universe needed to begin itself - come from? Science has postulated but never answered that question.

I don;t think we differ that much, I think the "tiny general complex" he has developed is an aberition of the bad traits thats the writers have efused hin with. He should shed that and in fact has already at times. That goes back to my complaint that he is stuck on repeat.

Back in the nineties I saw every sci fi show - TNG, DS9, Babylon Five, Seaquest. I watched them all.

Every serialized show has 'em. For those of you who thought this episode was long on questions...short on answers...and moved the plot forward only about 2 inches...You're right...it did...and it was. By design.
They came screaming out of the gate, giving us the identities of 2 more Oceanic 6 members (3 if you are counting Aaron)...they gave us a great back story on
the "Freightees"...and dropped some heavy ass bombs...all in the first 3 episodes. There was bound to be a "lull".
But even LOST's worst "lull" episodes are better than anything on TV right now. What "Eggtown" was up to...was setting up the next few episodes to come. Yeah...it felt like a "routine fly ball" episode...but it set up some major "grand slam homeruns" coming up the rest of the season.
I'm happy with the pace of LOST this season. We needed to see why Kate got where she did...and why she was so adamant with Jack that he was crazy for even suggesting they go back to Craphole Island in his FF last season.
As for why only 6 made it back...I think it wasn't THEIR choice. I think it'll turn out they were in the right place, at exactly the right time when something cataclyzmic is occurring...and they have no choice BUT to leave their friends behind. I don't think Claire is dead...but I think she gives Aaron to Kate...and tells her..."IF you make it to the copter/boat/whatever...take him with you...away from this place...If you don't make it back for me...keep him safe...and promise me...you'll raise him as your own".
I think Claire feels she will die on the island...and Kate is her best chance to give Aaron a future off the island....But I think Locke will keep her from dying. I do believe they will be reunited...once Kate begins to agree with Jack and Hurley that they have to go back and rescue those they were forced to leave behind.
People who DON'T ever make it off, IMO? John Locke, Juliette and James Ford. I have a feeling they all become sacrifices to the island. Once the Oceanic 6 (or what's left of them) return to Craphole island...Locke dies saving Jack's life...Sawyer dies saving Kate...Juliette dies saving Claire and/or Sun & Jin.
And then...the island collapses in on itself...and is sucked into a vortex in the sea...as the rescue helicopter flies off...leaving no trace whatsoever that the island was ever there.

What appeared to me as a lackluster episode (compared to the rest of Season 4 so far) sure has sparked a lot of debate! My main complaint in the episode - the court case sure was solved neatly with the whole probation angle. I'm sure federal courts don't resolve issues that neatly. I also think the 3.2 million is not a code. Rather, Miles has a specific need that 3.2 million can solve, or he knows that Ben will have specifically that much money.

I think Claire is alive but I don't think she gives Aaron to Kate without the intention of coming - but circumstances keep her from doing so. Ok there's a lot of negatives on top of negatives there but basically I'm wondering how Kate - who's being setup to want to stay on the island and (like Sayid last episode) ends up doing the opposite to her intentions - ends up in Claire's seat? Sure they could kill her, but somehow I don't see that being the choice they make...

I think just by the very nature of Kate n' Claire...it will become obvious to Claire, who has never picked up a torch on the island...let alone a gun or weapon of any kind...(of course, Rousseau mite argue her nails are a lethal weapon)...that When Kate gets all "Sigorney Weaver-ed" up in guns and flame throwers, etc...that SHE might be Aaron's only shot off the island...I have a feeling Kate will attempt to bring him WITHOUT Jack's knowlege...and it will be BECAUSE she tried to bring him...that only 6 of them escape...and not all of them.
That may explain why Jack seemed to not wanna go "play house" with Kate and "son" at the end of Eggtown...cuz that kid forced them to have to leave everyone else behind....and that's tearing him up inside. -

I've had this idea bouncing around in my head ever since 3.2, because of the way that Charlotte was interacting with the gang when she first encountered them-- that reverential tone, "I've got about a million questions i want to ask you," etc. It was like it was the ultimate experience she could hope to have as an anthropologist. I think, somehow, they are all on Atlantis. I know this smacks of season 1-era predictions about them being in the Bermuda Triangle or whatnot but i like this idea: Obv they are in the past, since we see a polar bear with a DHARMA collar getting dug up. And that crumbling 4-toed leg we saw at the end of s2. But what about Richard Alpert? Maybe his eyeliner is more than just a half assed makeup job for the actor, what if it's intentional? maybe he is from some sort of ancient Egyptian type society where they all wear eyeliner?
while i am running my theoretical mouth i will also say that i think Jacob is the biblical Jacob, who simpsons fans will remember "begat" the entire human race. IE, some sort of save-the-human-race cataclysmic shit is going down on the island for all us nerds who are conditioned to accept no smaller stakes in our entertainment. -

...was really onto something, I think. Jack & Kate (who brings Aaron) go back to the island, but have an accident and end up way in the past before DHARMA, the natives, everyone. Jack and Kate die leaving Aaron alone, and Aaron becomes god of the island (in some way). Interesting.

Yea, I thought the polar-bear was teleported there too. I think there is all sorts of sci-fi experimentation going on, on the island. There was that short on one of the DVDS with the two identical rabbits that couldn't touch one another (cloning? copying?). Time travel/warping, which we know from the rocket experiment. Teleporting, from the polar bear, possibly Walt too. Im sure there's more I'm missing.

Jacob - the man Ben has been struggling to keep off the island this whole time, owner of the freighter, employer of Matthew Abaddon, original boss of Ben's from his time as a janitor for the Dharma Initiative - a man who utilised telepresence technology developed by Dharma to remotely engage with people off-island (a technology that "went bad" after the Incident, creating a crazy unstable "shack" scenario that keeps moving around in which he remains trapped maybe?) and who is desperately trying to get his people back so they can "help" (rescue) him!
He appears at random anywhere and at any time on the island - which, remember is now out of sync with the rest of the world since the sky turned purple and the effects of the Incident are unchecked. So he can't control the time and place of his meetings anymore and he appears to a few Natives (Hostiles, Others, etc) who introduce him to Ben (after Ben sees his mum - another neat Dharma tech gone bad)
The "magical box" thing Ben talks about is indeed metaphor - just like a shack is a metaphor in a User Interface sort of way - they're both one in the same!
The random nature of it all means there's rarely anyone around when he appears but he devises a way to meet up with Ben - for Ben to sync with him, all out of Time and Space as we know it.
Problem is Ben wants it all for himself - what he does for Jacob (is it all about lists? is that the key to their communication? maybe it's not just about the circle of grey powder, a whole list of things have to happen? Ben is all about lists and so is Jacob) he secretly undoes - like what he does with Sayid in the flashforwards (can we call it the future?) - so the guy that he's been working for this whole time, Jacob, has also been the SAME guy he's actually been trying to take down, AT THE SAME TIME??
Here's the thing - you enter that Shack and you exit this universe temporarily and when you do you have all of Space and Time to peruse, from the comfort of your armchair. So Ben knows just as well as Jacob everything that is going to happen and how big a problem the Incident ultimately ends up being - and if that really was Des looking back at Hurley in the season premier, possibly he knows it too?
Ultimately Ben is fighting Dharma - has been since the Purge, when only Dharma's off-island assets remained, which could possibly include some sort of disembodied "meat" that used to be a complete real world Jacob...
Dharma isn't dead and buried - they're back and this time they've got the right resources to sort out this entire mess - but Ben is much stronger now and only Miles has spoken with enough dead people to know just how powerful he really is - much more powerful than his boss, whom he hasn't met - yet...
Think about the sat-phones for a moment - that's not a new technology - it's not a matter of being futuristic - they've been modified to work on the island. They're Dharma tech - not developed by Marvin Candle or even Mittelos but developed by Jacob, or at least based on tech he developed before developing a real paranoia about tech - he's trapped in his own creation but he has a plan for how to get himself - how to get everyone - out of it. The question is, has he underestimated Ben?? -

As far as the time traveling i hope its not so much time but more a kind of dimention splitter. I am tech savy on time travel so i'll try to explain best i can.
Say the losties go over the island which splits there paths, the origanal path where they crash and die just like the news says, then there is the spilt path delaying them in whatever void for 30 odd mins leading to there current events on the island.
Both these events now exsist in the same time and dimention because of the hatch detonation. And say the hatch was keeping the island in the void as such now its out making it easier to access.

If it was two timelines, why would they make such a big deal in 4.2 about Frank the helicopter pilot noticing 815's pilot not wearing his wedding ring, and insisting that is not the guy they're saying it is? I think it is way more likely the crash they found in the ocean is a big coverup...

So I have been getting my girl into Lost this season and now that she is hooked we started on the S1 DVD set and made it halfway through over the weekend. Here are some interesting observation and things I have forgotten over the years.
1) When they find the 2 bodies in the caves, one of them has a pouch with one black and one white stone, similar to what is used in Backgammon. I had forgotten this part.
2) After Jack gets his ass kicked by Ethan and Kate tries to convince him to go back to camp, Jack gets up on a frenzy and runs after Ethan saying "I wont let this happen AGAIN" Again? Maybe I missed what this is referring to but at that point no one else had been taken.
3) I forgot how adamant the psyhcic was that Claire and Claire alone raise the baby. This leads me to believe the Aaron with Kate is truely Claire's Aaron which will lead to the shit hitting the fan.
My girl is now hooked and she was shocked how Jack and Locke used to get along. -
I think Malkin was a grifter...happily collecting large sums of $$$ from rich fat-cats who thought he had a special psychic gift. He was very excited when he found a rich LA couple who needed a baby...and was willing to pay him a hefty price for delivering one to them...
Then Claire falls right into his lap...
Now...much like the character Whoopi played in 'Ghost', who was also very happily running her little fortune teller scheme...that is, until Patrick Swayze fell into her lap. It was then, after some gentle persuasion on Swayze's part, that she realized she actually did have a "gift"...and it scared the shit out of her.
I think Malkin has the same problem. He actually DID get a vibe from Claire that she needed to raise Aaron alone...despite all that $$$ he stood to get from the rich couple in LA...he decided to follow his 'gut'...and tell Claire the truth about the vision he had.
I think Malkin, from that moment forward ceased to be a fraud...and really did have a "special gift"....as we saw in the Eko flashback...and it is scaring the shit out of him, too.
Kingoflight...buddy...you're trying too hard to make a theory fit that just isn't quite there...yet...dude. I don't think time travel will even be a factor in the big picture of LOST...let alone dimension splitting...but right now, you're forcing a square peg in a round hole. -

Lost Game comes out tommorrow. I am getting right after work. I dont care if it sucks or not, its Lost. Just to get to interact with the island and different Lost locations is enough for me. This is coming from the same person who has played the Lost cell phone game and who bought "Bad Twin". Either way, I will be playing it tomorrow night and will let everyone know if it is any good or not.

I am begining to think that the oceanic 6 were chosen fo a reason. Maybe Mr. Abbadon wanted only this six to get off. I believe he or who ever he works for (Oceanic or Dharma)have someone who works for them on the island, most likely as an Other. They know about the crash, they know there are survivors, and they know information about them. The wanted these six for a particular reason (they know how to manipulate them into staying quiet or lying for them). Why, I do not know.

Based on the evidence from the show, the O6 seem more in cahoots with Ben (or at least with Ben's goals) than with Abaddon or Dharma or Oceanic:
* Ben doesn't want the island found
* Hurley lies to Abaddon about the island
* Jack lies on the witness stand about the crash and how many people survived
* Sayid is going around killing people on behalf of Ben
If the O6 made a deal with anyone, it appears to be Ben. -
...it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out Ben staged the fake Oceanic crash to throw people off the sent of the island.
Only for whatever reason, Abaddon (and whoever he represents) suspect the whole thing is a sham and continue their search anyway.
And when the Oceanic 6 are discovered and somehow returned to society, Abaddon (and whoever he represents) are convinced they have information about the island, and despite their claims (that 8 people survived the crash and only 6 people returned; it was just an ordinary plane crash/survive on a tropical island scenario; no smoke monsters and ghostly apparitions or people who seem to live forever), Abaddon knows their lying and is still spending his time bugging them for info. -
Because Ben controls the fates of those who remained ON the island. That's how he's getting the O-6 to keep their traps shut and do his bidding. That if they spill the beans or "break any rules", someone they care about back there will suffer greatly.
It would appear that Abaddon is trying to get the O-6 to break the rules...and convince them to stand up to Ben's will. -
Yeah, this one has been kicking around for a while hasn't it? Wasn't the original name for the show "The Ring" or "The Circle" or something? I seem to remember one of the producers saying that, and that "there is a clue in the very first shot of the show that nobody's picked up on yet". At the time people on here speculated that they were referring to the fact that the first thing you see is the "circles" of Jack's eye, hinting that the whole thing was going to come back around on itself in the end.For my money, though, i never remembered any behavior of Jack's to back this idea up. It's nice to know that he refers to Ethan's attack as happening "AGAIN." For the rest of the time, though... if he is so intent in the flash forwards on getting back to the island after getting off of it, and we were actually watching his second trip there all through s1-4, why would he still be so singleminded about getting off the island for 3 and a half seasons of the show?......Unless there are 2 Jacks on the island?? Could "Christian Shepherd" be the re-visiting Jack, kind of like how Harry Potter thinks he saw his father across the lake at the end of the 3rd book but really he's seeing himself?Kind of a stretch, I know, but there's got to be something to that 'circle' thing, unless they were just screwing with us. That was back in the 'throw a bunch of shit at the wall and see what sticks' nadir of s2's viral marketing orgy, if i remember correctly.Love this show like I love my bong... and they go together like Kate's butt and tight pants.

So say some dude steals your wallet and as your chasing after him he jumps you and runs off. You have never had your wallet stolen before. Would you really say "I'm not going to let this happen again" as you resume your chase? Technically unless the conflict was resolved it wouldnt make any sense to say you wont let it happen again and as you haven't given up your chase, it obviously hasn't been resolved yet.

...exactly at what point Jack makes the again statement. Whenever it happened, how many people had been assaulted or killed by Ethan (or some other Other). I think that was Jack making a statement about how he wasn't going to let Ethan do anything else to any of the LOSTIES.
Of course, depending on the timing of exactly when he said this, I could be completely wrong. But whether I am or not, having some kind of funky time loop...all this has happened before...doesn't really fit with the mood of the show, and I'm sure there is a more plausible explanation. -
When they just find out Ethan wasn't on the manifest and they find out Claire and Charlie are missing. The only bad thing that had really happened up to that point was Claire waking up screaming that someone was trying to hurt her baby and Jack believing she was just crazy. I agree the time loop has not seemed as likely in the later seasons but in S1 its definately a prominent theme. It could be a strange choice of words in the script for all I know but I definately noticed the Again and thought it was a weird thing to say.

I don't know the origins of these titles, but "Nowhere" could relate to the fact that the island is invisible to the outside world, and "The Circle" would reference the area in which the island exists (like the Bermuda TRIANGLE).
Again, I wasn't there when the show was pitched, so I'm just speculating. -

...after doing my research, when Jack says "Not again," he's referring to the fact that he isn't going to let Ethan get the better of him again.
The wallet example from above doesn't quite work, because if someone steals your wallet, and you chase after them, the act of stealing apparently isn't over. But in this case, Ethan beats the shit out of Jack to the point that Jack is unconscious. that pretty much ends the act of having the shit beat out of you. Stubborn Jack then wakes up to go chase him down, claiming that he isn't going to get the shit beat out of him again. -
If he said "I wont let THAT happen again" instead of "This" I would have thought that too. It probably should be taken as how you are seeing it but its always fun to speculate. On that note I'm going to say I would actually be quite pissed if the series ends with Jack waking up in the same position in the jungle and him walking out to see the plane wreck then BAM black screen with LOST fading out. That would be a cop-put of EPIC proportions and the whole "That's how it went that time" thing is entirely overdone.

i'm sure it's been discussed above but for TBers who are coming in late, i wanted to point out the book locke gives ben at the beginning is valis by phillip k. dick. locke tells ben he should read it again because he might catch something new the second time around. this was obviously a clue to the grand scheme of things. i have not been a fan of any one of the alternate reality theories such as they're all dead, dreaming, heaven, purgatory,..etc. i mean, it's beyond obvious that the island has supernatural qualities, but i don't think there's been enough evidence to support that what's happening on the island isn't reality as we know it. however, that little statement of locke's was very intriguing since phillip k. dick loved him some alternate realities. social experimentation falls into the pkd realm as well. valis as well as other pkd writings are chock full of ideas and imagery used on the show (or rather the show is chock full of pkd ideas). greek imagery & gnostisistic concepts (wiki gnosticism if you're unfamiliar) to name a couple. AND valis contains some concepts that I feel reflect some things about jacob. idk, just throwing some shit out for you theorists out there. maybe that little reference by locke was a hint from the producers telling us that the theories involving social experimentation or alternate realities are on the right track. what do you peops think?

I think they throw those books in there just to fuck with the fans. It isn't a coincidence that after being badgered for forever about the island being purgaroty that you suddenly see a copy of "The Third Policeman" or "Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge" on a bookshelf. It was kind of like Juliet joking that they were building a landing strip for aliens. its just a little jibe at the fans and all their crazy theories. I have a hunch "VALIS" is in this same vein.

I agree with you that ben is in total control of the six once they leave the island. I was simply saying that is could have been Abbadon who tried to get the particular six off because he thought they could easily be manipulated. He didn't count on Ben f-ing things up finding a way to manipulate the six once they leave. Plus, there has to be a reason for only those six getting to leave. If it was just a matter of wanting to stay or go there would be more than six, especially with all the red shirts walking around. Also, I would think Claire would want to leave. Desmond and Juliet would also want to leave, but I guess they wouldn't be considered a part of the six. We know Abbadon sent the freighters there so maybe he has a reason for wanting the six in particular. I could be totally wrong and we could find out that maybe something really bad happened that prevented them from getting the rest off the island. I guess we'll see.

What show are you watching? They haven't painted Locke to be wise. They've painted him to be arrogant and misguided, and when someone else tells him what to do, he does it with great confidence and passion (i.e. the island, or Ben, or Richard), and when they stop telling him what to do, he flails around miserably (pushing the button, searching for the cabin). I think they might be building toward him finally breaking free and becoming a true leader, but he ain't there yet.

jesus christ your right. you know i've been watching season 4 as it progresses but i've been going back over season one and locke was very different back then. when you pointed out those things above, i realized you were right. however, in the earlier eps, locke was the one who grasped the island quickest and i spose i was running off that (having come off a 5 ep marathon last night). but i wouldn't say he flails miserably as if he were helpless. he is constantly searching for the truth, and sometimes that means reaching in the dark.

So, I'm not a huge fan of the teleportation theory, but based on what darlton said about the orchid video, it bears some thought.anyone note the large number of connections the island has with africa? The polar bear in Tunisia, Yemi's plane leaving Africa and somehow ending up on the island, the slave ship presumably leaving Africa and ending up on the island, and according to some theories, the four-toed statue being similar to those found in Egypt. It can't be coincience that there is all of this back-and-fourth traffic between the island and Africa, and not much to anywhere else. I think I even read a theory that perhaps Richard is of Egyptian decent. So maybe there is some stargate thing going on between the island and africa? Whatever - I'm just along for the ride at this point.

1) Damon is wrong. The O6 list has been floating around a long time, and Ben's name ain't on it.
2) I think 'flailing' is the perfect word. Remember how frustrated Locke was with the whole 'push the button' thing? And when he wasn't getting the answers he wanted, he blew the damn thing up. And now that he can't find the cabin, he's trying desperately to regain control. Did you notice that moment when he found out Kate knew where Miles was, and for just a second, he looked like the sad-sack Locke from pre-island life. Of course, he then over-compensated by trying to be all bad-ass with kate, and by feeding a grenade to Miles. The reason he got so flustered with Ben was because Ben was right: Locke has no fucking idea what he's doing because the island stopped telling him what to do. -

So I began re-reading VALIS this weekend in case I missed something. Not only does the author mention the name Minkowski be he talks about a place where space turns into time and the other way around. As I mentioned eariler the main character in the story has a vision of Ancient Rome superimposed over modern-day California. He goes on to see an additional superimposition of the future so that the past, present and future are all seen perfectly superimposed on top of each other. And it's not until this view of past, present AND future are seen, that he the sees what he calls the BLACK IRON PRISON. Basically it's a prison that hold's humanity in it's grip.What I find interesting about this is that it's similar to the way the LOST storyline is playing out. We started with our characters with their story on the island. Then we see their past in the flashbacks. And now we're seiing their future in the flash forewards. And it's not until all three of these views are shown that we see how 'imprisoned' they are throughout their lives. Seriously, if you haven't checked this book out yet, you should!..... LOST (boom)

BEN! And Ben's "man on the boat" - ie source of info on the freighter and the people on it - may well be Matthew Abaddon!
I'm becoming more and more convinced Ben is totally playing both sides and if that Orchid video is canon - as Darlton seem to suggest - then it's all about wormholes.
The beauty of wormholes is you can use em for teleportation OR time travel OR both - a la Doctor Who, say, who traverses a wormhole in the opening titles of every show. So the moving shack, the "magic box" Ben can produce Locke's dad from, Jacob himself, Ben being both on and off the island at the same time, Richard Alpert appearing not to have aged all this time, the rocket clock, cute little bunny rabbit #15 appearing next to itself, the polar bear in the desert, stuff I haven't even contemplated yet - ALL OF THESE THINGS can be achieved with wormhole technology.
We haven't begun to have the technology explained to us yet but that is exactly what Faraday is there for.
Even Charlie talking to Hurley while being dead at the same time - wormholes - Faraday will talk about the tremendous amount of (electromagnetic) energy that would be required to stabilise a wormhole at both ends and we will know this island just happens to have some peculiar (electromagnetic) properties that could make that work... -

I remember Darlton confirming TIME itself would be a factor in the overall series. That time would not be running linearly in some soon to be explained way for the Losties...(as it seems the 'clock rocket' is our first taste of this phenomenon being addressed).
But...are you sure you are not adding the word TRAVEL on your own? I don't ever recall them saying time TRAVEL would be part of the show...ever. Thought I'd heard every podcast and ComicCon interview out there....Maybe I missed one? -

We have seen in Season 4 that dead doesnt necessarily mean dead as shown by Charlie talking to Hurley though the mechanics behind it are still uncertain. Anyone else looking forward to a grand return of Christian Shephard in some form to Jack either on or off island posibly on how to get back to the island

Hurley's active imagination, heightened by his time on the island. The dude who pointed out Charlie to Hurley...all in Hurley's head, too.
We already know Hurley conjured "Dave" out of thin air...Dave also was able to 'slap' Hurley awake in his episode.
Not saying that they aren't providing Hurley with relevant information...but they are clearly 'not there'. I think we will find in episodes to come, that Hurley's 'connection' with the island FAR exceeds any that Locke has with it.
But if there's one thing Darlton HAS confirmed, it's...if you die on the island...you're dead. Relegated to flashbacks and "hallucinations" from that point on. Period. -
but we have also already seen CHristian in Jacob's cabin and i dont think that Darlton would use the same trick twice as far as Dave and Charlie went. Now the only other person we know to have seen Charlie was also a part of the mental institution makes him an uncredible witness but remember when Hurley was seeing Dave no one saw him and one other person is better than none

While trying to feed my Lost fix, I stumbled upon this spoiler for the upcoming Juliet episode. DONT READ ANYMORE IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE SPOILED This is just too good not to discus for those who dont mind a little spoilage. Charles WIdmore will be appearing in Juliets episode, I think in a flashback. But the word is, all of her flashbacks take place on the island! I knew he had something to do with the island and I figured he was related to Dharma. But why would he be on the island while Juliet is there, meaning after the purge of Dharma? Cant wait for this week's ep, but now I'm even more excited about next week's.

From MSNBC - LOS ANGELES - ABC said Monday it will release hit shows like “Lost” and “Desperate Housewives” for free over video-on-demand cable services, with the hitch that viewers will have to sit through commercials without being able to fast-forward.
“We’re trying to drive everyone back to television but very much understand that with everybody’s lifestyles, they can’t necessarily watch that way and we don’t want to lose them altogether,” Disney spokeswoman Karen Hobson said.
The announcement follows an agreement between ABC and its more than 200 affiliate stations around the country.
Affiliates had in the past limited the amount of content ABC could redistribute in nontraditional ways because of their concern about the ratings impact on stations. But the video-on-demand deal offers them a financial incentive to participate.
Under the deal, local affiliates will be able to sell one 30-second ad on the content, while ABC will sell from four to nine other commercials to national advertisers.
That amounts to two to five minutes of commercials for an hourlong program, compared with 17 minutes or more for a show on regular TV, Hobson said.

The problem all these things have is that they will hurt the realism of the show. It's clear that the show is aiming to be believable - in our world and even our 'timeline' (e.g Red sox).
When it starts going down time travel routes, that slowly starts getting thrown out the window...
If they can do it without totally suspending belief I am down with that. I was actually thinking that the way Donnie Darko did the whole time travel worked without conjuring up all the Back to the Future cliches. -

Time plays a part. Travel (maybe teleportation) plays a part. How those 2 combine, if they do, I'm not sure.
In our Watchback of S1-3 last year, I picked up on the Jack comment about Ethan and not letting this happen again. People may be right about it being a throw away line, but I don't think it's anymore throw away than Ben saying every living person on the island will die.
Regarding the clue in the first scene, I continue to believe it's not everyone else is on the beach but Jack (meaning he's a plant/other/been there before), but instead that it's when he gathered his senses/composure he got up and ran to the beach. For those that doubt this, please explain why he did this without hearing cries of help or without having any sense of direction as to where everyone else and the wreckage was.
They do these things for a reason. Of that I'm convinced. Now whether you agree with where they go or not, I think most of us (sans h8rs) are enjoying the ride. So I, for one, regardless of my expectations or dreads, will trust the PTB until they wrestle that trust from my cold dead hands.
Wonder when I die if I'll go to the island? -
...what makes you think he appears in a flashback? I think Widmore has something to do with the freighter, so its concievable that he appears in regular island time. I think he's slated to appear in the Des episode this week too.

i don't think he cited time travel specifically in that interview, i think he said "the questions people should want the answers to are, What is the island? Where is the island? When is the island?"i mean i don't know what is a simpler explanation about the polar bear skeleton, whether its presence at the dig indicates the island is located far in the past or whether it indicates the polar bear got sent way back in time through a wormhole. But if you take what Matthew Fox said into account... for my money.. it indicates that the island is far in the past.But shit man, what if it's both? The island was created by an ancient civilization that was extremely technologically superior than any before or after it, and part of those achievements was the development of wormhole tech? That 4-toed statue leg's got to come back into play sometime...Also I totally agree about Faraday's involvement pointing to some wormhole-esque business, but don't forget they sent an anthropologist along as well..

No matter how time and time travel plays into the Lost scenario, Dalton and Cuse have said that they will not do the whole Back to the Future scenario with people running around trying not to mess up the future by tinkering with the past. They didn't want any space-time continuum problems. But there may be elements somewhat similar to this in the show eventually.

that Widmore, or reps of Widdy are see bidding on a very old logbook from the possessions of a certain Hanso who captained one "Black Rock". Maybe this is part of what we see in The Constant?. Also, Alan Dale (Widmore) stated he gets to be an ass to Des in this Episode, so we will not be seeing flashbacks as much as another timeshift by Des. That's where the short haired Des and long-haired Danny shots indicate - with wonderful quantum physics diagramming on the blackboard in the background. I believe he isexplaining to Des what might be happenning to him. And I wonder...is Des moving AHEAD in time this time, or back to the past like in "Flashes B.Y.E."). He asks Danny, "Am I gonna die?". That leads me to believe its a pop into the future, no?

Guys - as much as you think the fix is in against Lost, and how ABC wants to cancel it, that's just not the case. They've already picked up the show for the next 2 seasons. The damn Gamestop by my house had the release date listed as 2/26 (yesterday) but when i went there to pick it up they said that was the shipping date and they would not have it until tody. So, I'll pick it up today, play it tonight, comment on it tomorrow.

will not cancel LOST - I agree we will get our 6 seasons. But I also agree with gotilk that the lack of respect is obvious and it follows a pattern that we've seen before. And that is a bit scary. I just hate to see what these networks do to quality. How many emmys did arrested development win and you see the way they got jerked around. Goddamn that show was funny and so well written, but the ratings just didn't meet Fox's expectations and while it made money...it didn't make ENOUGH. And we know this is a bottom line business. After what happened to Firefly...Jesus, SciFry replaced their first, big, original series (my beloved Farscape) with Tremors:THe series. If that can happen, anything can. Tho you are right, I think LOST would have to REALLY nosedive in ratings to even be threatened. This day/timeslot shifting is really disconcerting, however.

hasn't quite reached the status of a Joss Whedon...yet. With Cloverfield's success and LOST's fan base - if Whedon can get Serenity made, I am CERTAIN if we were ever denied a final season of LOST (you know we'll get # 5 at worst), JJ would get the Greenlight on a feature film if not a franchise to finish his LOST myth-arc. I'd hate to have to wait for it, but to see the story told with Big Screen production values...hmmmm. That would be interesting. I have little fear we won't get answers to 90% of the questions posed by the series. You know they'll leave us guessing on a few even if they get a full 6 seasons. Gotta leave a little to the imagination.

I've been tackling RANT for a little while, bits at a time and I'm just too into it. I give Rant another, hmm.... maybe 2 or 3 days. Then I'll tackle VALIS. I really wanted to start it, but Rant kept drawing me back.

I remember the writers asying their is something in the pilot episode that most people have missed. Isnt it true that Jack was supposed to also die in the first episode. What if the show was supposed to start with Jack dying somewhere and ending up on the Island but that was backtracked bcz it would give too much away. So for all intense purposes Jack would be killed off in the pilot but not off the show. Looking at that I'm guessing the person in the coffin is Jack. dun dun dun Lost (bang) that would be a good cliff hanger

..what we may have missed in the pilot is that there is some element, causing more than we know about on the island that has complicated everything.. and it was brought to the island by 815. Now if that manifested in some way that we've missed, it must be very hard to spot because we have some of the finest minds on the task here and elsewhere. If we missed it, it's nearly impossible to find.

Regarding the clue in the first scene, I continue to believe it's not everyone else is on the beach but Jack (possibly meaning he's a plant/other/been there before, etc.), but instead that it's when he gathered his senses/composure he got up and ran to the beach. For those that doubt this, please explain why he did this without hearing cries of help or without having any sense of direction as to where everyone else and the wreckage was.
IMO that's the clue...subtle...simple.

as i remember it Michael Keaton was supposed to play Jack, and he was going to be eaten by the monster instead of Greg Grunberg at the very end of the pilot. And Kate was to be the main protag for the rest of the series.i think you might be kinda off, frankkraz... i think the producers didn't have a real clear idea of where the show was going for much of the beginning, they threw a bunch of awesome stuff out there and told themselves they'd connect the dots later. JJ has admitted he hadn't even decided what was down the Swan hatch for almost all of s1, for christs sake. That's why they brought on the Y: The Last Man writer last year, they needed a super-creative thinker to get all of this shit sorted out as awesomely as it began. Which i am glad to see happening. (so far...)

So you are basically saying that you think Jack has indeed ben there before, but for a different reason than most? Could be... Dunno if you saw the earlier posts on this but the show was originally gonna be called "The Circle"-- which one poster above seemed fairly certain was referring to the geographic region the island is in, like the bermuda triangle... which, i mean, to me that seems like a real stretch but what do i know. i had assumed that the old title might be an allusion to the fact that when all is said and done this will be shown to be some sort of never-ending loop of events, or some mindfuck like that. and they changed it because they thought it was too much of a hint. (not that that's really any less of a stretch, admittedly)

I'll stick with my theory. The theory does not say he's been there before, only that somehow he knew where everyone was.
How he did that is definately a question to me that has not been answered. Since it came from the first scene, and since it's is said there's a clue there, I think the answer to that question, whatever it is, is the clue.

If anyone has seen the LOST missing pieces, which are said to be in canon, one of them features the manifestation of Christian Shepard finding Vincent in the jungle, and telling him to go wake up Jack. ("He has work to do.") Vincent then runs into the forest, and cut to the opening scene from the Pilot. Wonder how that plays into things.

Was just jaw-dropping. So much has been speculated about WHAT Christian exactly is...but you would not play/act to a dog - as smart as Labs are (mine is smarter than me). Christian says "my son". Christian IS dead, but in some as of yet unrevealed sense, is alive (just like Charlie said - I AM dead, but I am also here). Then a lick in the face, and Jack awakes and has that little spasm - like a jolt of trauma (fuck I was just thrown from a crashing Boeing). Matthew Fox appears to play it like this was unexpected and traumatic. He ran as as a plot device, to save time, he appears on the beach. As an audience, we wouldn't want to watch him wandering around a jungle for half an ep. He followed the smoke from the crash I guess. Who knows. That engine was still spewing - that was pretty loud. I don't think he is following a prearranged path. We have too much invested in Jack now for 3 1/2 seasons - I don't think Darlton would go that route. Although according to Eggtown, he's a good liar.

If Ausiello is to be believed...ABC is airing the big Season 4 finale on Thursday, May 22nd?
One day AFTER the May sweep ends?
The Nielsen metering concludes Wed, May 21st...which means ABC will be getting NO bang for it's buck ratings-wise whatsoever on the season finale.
This makes NO sense at all to me...and I would think this may change YET AGAIN before it's all said and done.
It would make far more sense to end it either on Thursday May 15th...or move Lost back to Wednesdays and let the finale air on May 21st. I dunno...but ABC must have huge confidence in Lost's ratings and their ability to generate ad revenue off of it, if their willing to piss away the huge numbers the finale will be getting when Nielsen isn't counting the viewers.
Stay tuned on this folks.

realy opened up a can of worms for the show. Everytime we have seen what can be defined as an apparition like Eko seeing yemi or hurley seeing dave and now charlie it has been a person close to someone that they are seeing. But as of right now there is no plausible explanation for Christian Shepherd interacting with Vincent unless he isnt dead

They decided last week they were going to raise their child in Korea. A scene from Ji Yeon has Jin buyng a big overstuffed pandabear for baby Ji. Kate'sreaction is all, "why would I go") and Jack broke down in tears and lmost took the plnge because of it. Thr nrespaper clipping drops some hints. Its in a poor, black area of LA. No one but Jack showed up. It's gotta be Michael. Maybe Ben. Slim chance for Sayid. WildCard??? Walt.

I always thought the hidden secret in the pilot was the smoke monster on the beach - I totally missed that when I was originally watching and when I eventually saw the footage on YouTube I had one of those "HOLY SHIT!!" moments this show keeps throwing at me...

Thing is, the producers reckon that's bullshit (the same producers who said "there will be no time travel") but cgi experts will tell you there's no way an error like that would unintentionally make the final cut...
Another interesting thing the producers have said is that the only mystery left unsolved from the pilot episode is Charlie's question "where are we?"
