FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Not Quite Extingished??

Published at:  Feb 21, 2008 12:24:54 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Thursday morning’s Variety reports that NBC-Universal is looking into ways to keep the acclaimed but ratings challenged “Friday Night Lights” alive by sharing the series’ third season with other channels.

Could a deal be worked out that would give first-run FNL episodes to DirecTV’s channel 101 before they run on NBC?

Read all of Variety’s story on the matter here.

Any fan of quality TV should be watching this show.

I know some hardcore geeks are sports haters, but this show is more about social class and community that it is about football. Football is just the backdrop.

    What Slappy said...

    by jrlamps

This show is fantastic all around. One of the best casts on tv, and although the football thing was what delayed my watching the show, it really is secondary, and when its not they do it so well that you want more. People need to give it a shot. Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can't lose.

Red Shirt do you just not like the show or are you trying to fool people into thinking it isn't the gospel truth? 'Cause it is.

Great News and I love Football!

    by thevision

FNL is the best drama on network TV- I'm glad NBC is doing everything they can to keep it on, wish they could have done the same with "Journeyman." Anyway, I am a hardcore genre geek AND I love Football- right combination of speed, strategy and violence! I'm as stoked about the draft in March as I am about Dark Knight and Iron Man, I think Chris Long will go first round. I'm still pissed the Patriots choked- what the hell was Coach Bill thinking when he didn't go for the field goal?! NFL is over for the season but love the game so much I even watch Arena League, hell I'll watch 3 down CFL if it was available on ESPN. Only sport I watch, don't give a shit about baseball, basketball, hockey and can't stand golf- about as interesting as curling.

Where's the back half of season 2, NBC?

    by discosis

I mean, you did renew it for a full season, and lots of other shows have come / are coming back after the strike.

Maybe NBC's still annoyed that Katims apparently wouldn't write 2x15 as a season finale...

...hey for Jericho they sent in bags of nuts... for FNL will they send in boxes of jockstraps?

Although jockstraps and bags of nuts might not really go together... on the other hand...

    by toby wan

Well, not officially, anyway. And it is better than most of the shit that NBC pushes out of its bowels every year. Of course they would put it out to pasture after 8(?) episodes. Give Howie Mandel ANOTHER hour to give away money to some sweet, kind, poor ass person. Or ANOTHER Law and Order.

Great show but it's time for it to go...

    by ex-teenager

Loved the first season of FNL, the second has meandered. Sure the strike didn't help but they haven't figured out a way to keep the Jason Street character involved with the rest of the cast, the Landry/Tyra relationship/manslaughter (2nd degree murder) was ridiculous, Layla discovers her some Jesus and is immediately handed a co-host spot on a Christian radio show with no broadcast experience, and now Street will likely become a father despite the overwhelming odds against? Didn't they already pull the baby trick with Coach Taylor and his wife? The show was at it's best when it was about teamwork and people putting aside their differences to accomplish a common goal, in this show's case demonstrated through football. Also, how can it go on to a third season when about half the cast has to graduate - Riggins, Smash, Layla, and Tyra are already second year seniors... Give us a TV movie or two to wrap up loose ends from season 2 and pull the plug before we all forget what was good about this show in the first place.

So I guess Angel, Firefly, Farscape, Freaks and Geeks, My So-Called Life, Veronica Mars, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Arrested Development, Carnivale, Rome, Deadwood, Twin Peaks, and Star freakin' Trek all suck! They must or they wouldn't have been cancelled!

I watch FNL in HD on Directv(sort of). The DVRs pick up the OTA signal. All you need is a cheap antenna.

Why doesn't AICN pimp FNL more?

    by rev. slappy

It's filmed in Austin. This is a film site based in Austin. I would think AICN would want to see FNL succeed just for what it brings to the local economy. God know they pimp all things Robert Rodriguez.

savefridaynightlights.tv is up and running. They are taking donations to send several thousand little plastic footballs to NBC. I think the balls cost less than a dollar and are being printed with the "Clear Eyes, Full Hears" logo. It's a pretty good idea.

FNL first season was ok I guess.

    by detective_fingerling

Did a blind purchase of it on DVD and was entertained I suppose. Haven't seen any of the second season yet. I'll probably wait for the DVD set to come out. I found that more often than not, it moved at a snails pace. Good performances though. That one girl is quite the looker. The cripples girl... or ex girl, I dunno.

Bionic Woman shouldn't have made it past a third episode. Journeyman should be afforded a second season.

    Eh..

I agree the show lost its way in the first few eps of season 2, but it righted itself and the last half of eps were on par with season one. The Landry murder plotline stunk of a netowrk suit who thought it would be a good idea to increase viewership.

This show was great for about the first 30 minutes of the pilot, then it turned into another teen age angst clone. Same sad situations, same stupid premises, same I-saw-that-coming-before-I-was-born scenarios. Stop the Madness!! Cancel it and put on dead air. It is more entertaining.
