Anthony Anderson To Join LAW & ORDER??

Published at:  Feb 21, 2008 12:15:27 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Thursday morning’s Variety reports that Anthony Anderson (“Kangaroo Jack,” “Transformers”) may be about to become Jeremy Sisto’s partner on “Law & Order,” replacing nine-year L&O vet Jesse Martin.

The slightly strange thing about this news is Fox hasn’t quite gotten around to cancelling Anderson’s last series, the terrible “K-Ville.”

Read all of Variety’s story on the matter here.

Please, no. There are only about a hundred thousand better qualified actors. It's bad enough Dennis Farina left and Jerry Orbach is dead; don't go down this path.

I actually think that Jeremy Sisto is a pretty damn good actor, and I think that Anthony Anderson could be good on this show. But why is Jesse Martin leaving?

And also, if these two characters dont work out, this show needs to die.

Has anyone been watching Law and Order this year?

    by mraig

It's been really good. Of course, it's always been a pretty consistent show, but this year with the introduction of a new Asst. DA for the first time in over ten years, played by Batman's dad from Batman Begins, who is intense and cutthroat and awesome, I think the show has gotten some new energy. But I think Jesse Martin is one of the cornerstones of that show right now--it would probably take a hit if he left. Then again, it's been a show that has absorbed any and every cast member leaving, and just keeps on trucking.

    PS: High definition

    by mraig

When I first got my HDTV I started watching a ton of Law and Order on TNT, and was amazed to find that there are high quality, 16:9, widescreen versions of the episodes going back to like 1994 (as opposed to a lot of other TNT "HD" shows which are just horribly stretched 4:3 SD prints). Where did all these true HD versions come from? Were they that foresighted in the mid nineties?

    Interesting news...

    by mistahtibbs

Anderson did some good work on The Shield. He was really an evil fuck. I realize some people felt it was weak but I disagree.
Bringing him into L&O? Could work. I think he has some decent chops.

mraig, I agree. With Thompson out after his attempt at the WH and Waterston doing the DA thing the new guy has brought a fresh dynamic to the show. That and the female ADA is hot in a slightly off-putting, vaguely alien-looking sort of way.

Now if they could only get some writers who aren't so enamored with their oh-so-clever plots that have to, in some way, make Christians or conservatives look bad.
Seriously, there have been more abortion clinics bombed on L&O than in real life.

    Weird

    Still, good show.

Now that we've left the dark ages of the Elisabeth Rohm/Fred D. Thompson era and now getting good scripts with interesting characters played by good actors. Hopefully AA will bring his A-game to this.

I agree; Law & Order seemed to be lacking energy the past few seasons, but it seems like the current cast and writing has revitalized it quite a bit. I think it's the best right now that it's been in quite a while.

    by han cholo

They should seriously get rid of Sam Watterston's self-righteous attorney character. I absolutely can't stand him and is the only reason I don't watch the original Law & Order. Right now I think SVU is the best followed by Criminal Intent with D'onofrio. I will say that Alicia Witt has been the BEST addition to Law & Order since Mariska Hargitay.

Contrary to the stereotype of teh fat cop, NYPD has had serious fitness requirements since the late 80's. A couple of older guys with beer bellies, sure. Some overweight oldtimer with 30+ years working a desk, absolutely. But not some homicide detective in his 30's.

I agree that scene was powerful in the moment, but afterwards, it seemed a little contrived.

I think that Rohm is a great actress, but I really can not stand Thompson as an actor. He's not terrible, but he is far from good. I guess it's the mediocrity that annoys me; especially when it is obvious that he is trying so hard to be portray a depth that I don't think that he has.

A New Character Direction For Law & Order Original Recipe

    by red dawn don

On many past episodes, Det. Green, was the designated heart-throb. Det Green usually had some of the female guest stars coming on to him. I guess the batton has been past to the Jeremy Sisto character. Last nights episode had women all making eyes at him. I thought that I was watching a Stacy Keach MIKE HAMMER episode with all the damsel-in-heat lusting, last nights L&O had in it. Funny though, Det. Green had no action. What a change.

Like they did every once in a while on L&O. Seeing some of the chicks from behind or taking their tops off every so often made me come back to the show more often than I really wanted to but it was nice to see something like that once in a while. The police station has gotten like ten times bigger, and the camera moves all over the place, shooting from different angles, etc. -- a very appealing overhaul. And I too have often literally thought the female ADA looks like a gorgeous extraterrestrial.

There's plenty of actors out there that could do a much better job. Funny thing is, I just watched "The Movie Hero" again last night, and now I'm reminded of the part in it when Sisto talks about how he can't have a funny young black sidekick cause it's too cliche. except, yeah I know, Anthony Anderson isn't funny. but you get my point. Why don't they hire someone like Blaire Underwood or Richard T. Jones if they feel the need to hire a black actor. Either of them would be a way better choice I think.

But seriously, although the writing was rocky at the beginning of the series, K-Ville was a pretty good show, and I'm not saying that because I'm a huge Cole Hauser fan. I was glad to see him getting some regular work. I think he's one of the most underated actors today. Just watch him in Higher Learning. Spooky! Well, if Fox is going to cancel it, might as well give Anderson a job. But what of Hauser?
