Did The Wall Street Journal just give us the plot for TOY STORY 3?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm supposed to be headed Pixar-way Friday morning and my big game plan is to pull the fire alarm and in the confusion sneak into Lasseter's office and soak up the atmosphere for a minute, become a super creative genius and then find as much as I can on TOY STORY 3.
Oh shit... I just typed that in a public forum. Well, damn. That plan's out the window now...
Anyway, while I think up something else to get me banned from Emeryville let's talk about what The Wall Street Journal has to say about TOY STORY 3. They open a story about big media companies keeping video games in-house as opposed to selling the rights to game companies with a description of TOY STORY 3.
Here's what they have to say:
In Pixar's coming movie "Toy Story 3," Woody the cowboy and his toy-box friends are dumped in a day-care center after their owner, Andy, leaves for college.
Interesting. Sounds like a direct continuation of the themes of abandonment from TOY STORY 3. Although maybe Andy didn't have a say in the matter and his mom just cleaned house and threw them out. Either way Andy's outta the picture.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are already coming back (I hope we get Rickles and the rest of the gang, too) and co-director of TOY STORY 2 Lee Unkrich has full directing responsibilities on this project. What do you folks think?

Does anyone have the SNL stallone skit where he works at an Orange Julius or know where I can find it?
-
Can't wait for three. Andy's in college now??
-
:)
Just as long as we get the 'ignorant Buzz' and his hilarious antics, I'm down. -
That's what it reminds me of.
-
It'd be about the toys being left behind by andy when he grew up and them finding their place in an orphanage or (I guess) daycare. Sounds thematically in line with the other films. I have faith it'll be just as good.
-
I WANT VAGINA
-
Though It'd be great if Andy came back at the end to get them. I'm a sucker for those kind of endings ;)
-
..it's impossible to top that movie. This is a bad idea.
-
...and I don't have the heart to give away all my juvenile play-things. Though they're stuck in the attic, I hope to one day bring them out for little PirateEmery's someday down the road.
I'm pretty sure that the same thing will happen in Toy Story 3. It'll be revealed that Andy is a packrat and can't bear to have such items that have such a root in his childhood taken out of his possession. -
mefrog, but then it would be exactly like the brave little toaster. i hope they all recognize why they were dumped there. a better ending would be not explaining change in years have andy send his kid to the daycare and have them come to life for the kid then become so attached make adult andy take them home for his new child
-
staying in the daycare forever. They'd always be loved and played with by new generations of kids every few years, as opposed to rotting away in storage somewhere. Andy won't come back for them, I can pretty much guarantee it.
-
Seriously? Lame
-
It would be way better if Andy knocked up his teenage girlfriend and his kid inherits the toys. Then everyone wins.
-
Licking boobies and Fucking girls with other kinds of "toys"
-
A day-care center? Ehhhhhh...
-
I am here to say I believe there is a conspiracy to keep this orange julius skit hidden from the public. It has been one of the funniest skits to ever air on SNL but it can't be found ANYWHERE. Has Orange Julius strong armed the media to keep this hidden... who knows. If you have this clip please post it.
-
Or are they that desperate for cash? Is this what the ending of the writers' strike brings us? Re-worked movies from years ago? SAVE JOURNEYMAN DAMNIT!
-
- the Toy Story characters all come face to face with newer Toys based on their own lines, eg; Buzz meets the *newer* Buzz who's all dark and shit with shiny black armour and a mother complex. And they have to fight, right? How about it? ..... Actually, I'll shut up - that's just so crap they might do it.
-
Since Toy Story is my favorite movie ever. Any word on John Carter though?
-
...a storyline where the toys are being replaced with TV and Video Games and that kids don't care so much about toys anymore.
You know what? I give up... Pixar, do your "thing" and make this depressing sounding synopsis good. -
Just sayin.
-
Andy's Mom should donate the toys to children in a third world country. It'll highlight an issue you wouldn't normally associate with a children's film AND makes it 1000x cooler than a f'ing daycare. Kinda ironic, too, considering the toys probably have CHINA or VIETNAM stamped on 'em anyways.
-
not a bunch of annoying "references" glued together by "hit" music and shit. Good old fashioned actual stories and characters.

...I don't give a fuck, being that I'm 26 years old, making me two decades too old to care about the second sequal to a good film. Especially considering it sounds like more of the same in regards to the first sequal which was already more of the same. Pixars gotta eat I guess.
-
I hope the movie can keep it up!
-
I really like this idea. It could make for a really mature film, which is something Pixar, in my opinion, is becoming more of with every film. I'm the guy who hates animation. It ain't my bag. But damn I love me some Pixar. I hope Andy doesn't come back for them. I know that's mean, but I like the idea of the toys staying some place where they'll always have a purpose. Can't wait for this, though I'm more excited for motherfucking WALL-E! Bring that shit on, baby.

Cause Pixar really needs the money!
-
thanks, but I am looking for the video. The skit is the best I've ever seen.
-
Every time there is a 10 question thing I keep asking to ask Stallone where we can see the orange julius skit, but my question is NEVER asked. Further proof there is a cover-up amidst the media.
-
wow, that transcript was the lamest thing i've ever read. people think that is funny? wow, SNL really has gone downhill.
-
you gotta watch the video to truly appreciate how awesome stallone makes this skit.
-
This movie's plot is unrealistic. Optimus Prime is never to be disposed. Unless, like someone said, the mom threw it out or something.
-
And a relevant one too. Kids getting glued to the computer monitor and letting the games (instead of their minds) do the imagining. Toys get left behind.
-
Gibson - unless you are like me and selling all of your childhood Transformers on eBay and making some serious bank. Just sold a complete Fortress Maximus for a grand...chaching!
-
And neither are for sale!! :)
Much less a daycare....every time a stupid kid snaps off a classic piece, a TF fans somewhere suddenly twitches. -
Does the story cut to 20 years later when Andy's 40, still living in his Mom's basement, and trying to re-buy Woody, et al, on Ebay in an effort to re-capture his lost youth?
-

Sounds better than the other TS 3 plots that went around.
by greenstyle92
Like "Andy's mom gets remarried and another kid and her toys come into the house and wreck everything." or "Buzz gets recalled to Taiwan and Woody co have to rescue" which was just TS2 rehash.
I like this approach. it acknowledges the passage of time. that by 2010 it will have been 11 years since the second one and 15 years since the first. -
My 2 1;2 year old watches Toy Story and Toy Story 2 religiously multiple times a day. I want something new to break the cycle.
BTW...It's been reported multiple times before that the daycare incident was how Toy Story 1 was supposed to end. -
And this concept sounds like it could be a riot if they develop the daycare kids right. Hope this rumour is true.
-
I too was going suggest that as a new variant on the "ignorant Buzz" gag, That Buzz comes face to face with a
Buzz Lightyear from a PG-13 Buzz Lightyear live-action movie, as directed by Michael Bay. Which I guess means this Buzz Lightyear would say "My Bad" and "What's crackin' little Bitches" and Piss on Woody.
God, I just realized that by the time TS3 comes out, there will already be a Transformers part 2 and already a year old and already sitting on my shelf in Blue Ray DVD form. (I hope my Broke Ass can afford Blue Ray player by 2010.) -
i hope they realize that this movie's already been made. It's brave little toaster.
-
I love that skit as well and always talk about it with my friends.
-
pissed they didn't get the game rights....
-
FUCK YA!!! "I'M THE SMARTEST MAN ALIVE!!!"
-
Funny how you never responded to me and said Interesting, yet here you act all surprised. I called it years ago. Everyone ignores me. Your loss bitches
-
Link it NOW or be called liar.
-
I think in the Wall-E superbowl/woody and buzz trailer thread. I'd have to find it, hold on
-
But Toys don't love being abandoned! In fact they quite hate it! Wouldn't you? Of course you would, so you can bet that Woody and company are gonna hate it, too.
Besides, the characters acknowledged it was gonna happen in part two. Suck it up!
http://tinyurl.com/34mg59 -
It wasn't in that thread. It was in the Toy Story 3D thread.

Subject - "Toy Story 3 easy to write? Post - "The child that owns Woody, Buzz and all the gang has out grown the toys. Abandoned and lost. The toys must now search for a new owner. The adventure begins."
http://tinyurl.com/3c4mf3
-
They added the college and daycare stuff.
-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! [runs into wall]
-
But the "search for a new owner" isn't confirmed to be part of the film. you get... partial credit.
-
(Woody and Buzz surrounded by drooling infants at the daycare)
Buzz: This aint gonna be easy
Woody: Not as easy as it used to be
I mean face it, Buzz and Woody are pretty old by now. -
She was smokin'. Don't lie- you wanted to tap that too......
-
I remember groaning at the thought of Toy Story 2, only to be blown away all over again
-
They get a free pass at the Box Office from me. Even CARS, which I wasn't in love with, was damned purty.

That part of the story hasn't surfaced yet greenstyle92
by orionsangels
It will. Highly doubt a college kid wants toys, unless he's a collector or wants to sell them on Ebay. They'll have a sad child who can't afford toys and Woody and Buzz end up with him or her at the very end. Begin where they started. Making for a fitting end to the Toy Story franchise.
-
will sit for thirteen years getting sick of the sound of each others voices until finally Messi or some other TB'er will walk in and pick them up and yell something about what great condition they're in and then they'll end up on a shelf between action figures of that pink dove chick from G-Force and that statue of Mary Jane Watson where her thong is showing. The ladies will come to life at night ready to party, but alas, Woody's string is broken and Buzz's batteries have not only gone dead, but have leaked yellow brown chemicals all over his once pristine white finish. Mozart's Requiem plays over the credits while hilarious faux out-takes scroll behind the credits.
-
Three and half centuries in the future, mankind has been obliterated from the earth along with every other biological creature due to nuclear and biological warfare. In this barren wasteland of a planet, Woody sets out to find the friend who was separated from him in the nuclear holocaust... Buzz Lightyear. In Toy Story 5, Buzz goes mad and eats Woody, and 6 is a Western.
-
That the plot is about Buzz Lightyear being recalled.
-
That was back when Disney was going to do TS3. Then they bought Pixar and they took over the project. I trust them to do it right. Pixar has yet to make anything but a solid film.
-
Toy Story 2 is one of only 2 animated films to ever make me cry. The Iron Giant is the other. This sounds like a possibly very dark film. Pixar is growing up.
-
Woody and Buzz set traps around the daycare for those bad kids.
-
i think these owners are fucked in the head
-
And I wonder if the story will revolve around how today's children are all like Sid from Toy Story, abusing toys and not caring for them? Or if the children will all be so ADHD that they can't play with a single toy for more than 30 seconds before moving on? Or if the children will just ignore the toys all together and sit in front of the wall-mounted television all day while the toys desparately cry out for attention? Or if upon arriving, the day care teacher realizes that all of the toys have been recalled due to lead-based paint and tosses them into an incinerator that just happens to be in the back-room of the day care? Just imagine the possibilities! Remember Sammy Jankis!
-
they aren't going to want to play with your stupid Evel Keneval 'jump the camper' stunt set - they're going to want you to buy them a Playstation XVII
-
My daughter is 3 1/2 now, and I've found that she loves the same books I loved when I was her age. She's just started "reading" them back to me (rote memorization, which while impressive isn't actually reading) recently and it's really a joy to see.
Toys really don't translate well from generation to generation, I've found. But books can span generations -- even simple ones like "The Poky Little Puppy" and various Dr. Seuss title -- and take us back to where we were when we were young.
The aforementioned diatribe is only going to matter to you if you have kids or plan on having them, which I know knocks out half the AICN audience. But bear with me. -
part of the deal of Disney acquiring Pixar...
-
I got the impression from the Ultimate Toy Box DVD set that Lasseter had an idea for a third and final film in which Andy would grow up and abandon his toys - as all children do. The film would be about growing up and the changes this means. I believe that he said this proposed storyline would end with Woody et al being donated to a playgroup there they could provide pleasure to an endless stream of new children. If Lasseter stuck with this outline then the film would not be about a daycare centre but end there. I hope they do this because it would provide the perfect end to the story.
-
Why doesn't woody remember the kids who owned him prior to Andy. his mom says he's an old family toy And he's from an old show so clearly hes been around for a while...ah crap thinking too much into it.
-
what if it envolved the day care from the start, and you figure out that they hint they were dropped off, at the day care you could introduce dozens of new characters, so the essential message of the film could be lost. I find the best way to end the movie would have andy picking up his child at the day care a few years and sees him/her playing with woody and buzz...that wouldn't be to bad of a ending in my opinion that would be a little more fitting then leaving them in a toy box. although that does kind of fit in with the book thing mentioned earlier...like in forrest gump where his son takes the curious george book to school, and good call on woody now remembering anything from before the first movie...never thought of that, how did he make it through until now?
-
Man, I love Pixar and I really enjoyed both Toy Story movies, but oh man did the yelling get to me. I was only like 21 years old when the first one came out and it still got to me. Anyone else get bothered by that? I guess I need to start telling kids to get off my lawn.
-
Andy would have stopped playing with toys long before college. Like I dunno...when he started liking girls and girls started liking him, when he plays sports and had more homework, bought a cell phone, next generation console, computer. Plenty of things would have caused him to shelve his toys before "college". I stopped playing toys long before I ever graduated high school. But whatever. I guess they want to continue the theme from Toy Story 2. A day care is a place where toys would be stuffed. But this isn't Day Care Story. How are they gonna do Slinky! What evs.
-
like Toy Story did when I saw it in theatres. I was 24 years old at the time, but even a grown geek could appreciate the great story and spectacular effects. And few sequels have matched like Toy Story 2. Only Empire Strikes Back comes to mind. Now my kids watch the Toy Story movies at least once a month, and they never get old.
