Spike Jonze wants to tell you exactly what that 'WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE' clip was!

Published at:  Feb 20, 2008 12:50:14 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here with the end of intrigue regarding that clip that has been going around online. Here is what the man, THE MAN... SPIKE JONZE has to say about it all...

“that was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn’t look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actually film...Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later...“ - Spike Jonze

cant really judge the clip at this point seeing only one "thing" and a lamb boy. im sure it'll look more true to the book after all the wild things are in the are introduced. but the kid needs to mean as hell. is mike dolan in here??

Jonze is a major talent, this is going to be something special

    by killakane

I loved the use of that natural 'magic hour' light and a real environment in the test clip. Jonze unique vision will no doubt conjure up something offbeat and special. Looking forward to seeing more of this as it nears release.

    Two little things

    by brendon

    1) In many ways, the clip DOES have the tone of the film (sombre-sweet, very fresh, very natural)

    2) Everybody knows Griffin, in this clip, is much better for the role than the poor sod who got it in the end. Including Spike. Notice just how carefully he worded his e-mail...

    by cowboyone

I loved that the VOICE acting was so casual and REAL, and that it was an unknown actor. I'm kind of bummed that it'll be gandolfini in the final, but I can't wait to see what Jonze does with Sendak/Eggers words.

    by bswise

Let's see, so far he's directed two features, which are two of the freshest, funniest, moving, thrilling, and wonderful movies that I've seen in the last 10, maybe twenty, years. He's been working on this film, an incredible challenge, for years with Sendak's blessing. I have no doubt that it will be original, amazing, and not entirely what anyone was expecting. I only hope that the filmmakers take all the time they need to complete this masterpiece as it should be.

    Raping your childhood???

    by slayers bitch

I have a novel idea.........(wait for it)........... if you want Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are, preserved in your memory, exactly like it was as a child...... then don't see the movie- read the book! There you go, you're childhood's cherry is still intact!

An interesting thing about that clip . . .

    by lavaboat

It's kinda strange but when you take the effect of that facial cgi and drop it into the very humble frame of a mundane scene with zero gloss and polish, unimpressive camerawork and no sound . . . something very magical and authentic comes through.
