‘Solid’ Season Debuts For CBS’ BIG BROTHER & JERICHO!!

Published at:  Feb 14, 2008 1:05:18 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

According to Variety’s ratings analyst Rick Kissel, “Big Brother 9” debuted stronger than than the popular Evel Dick edition of “Big Brother 8” (despite tougher non-summer competition like “American Idol”).

The “Jericho” season debut managed to best the ratings of all but one episode of “Cane,” which held the Tuesday 10 p.m. timeslot earlier in the season.

From Kissel’s report:

Combined, "Big Brother" and "Jericho" improved the network's prior four-week 18-49 average in the 9-11 p.m. timeslot (with a combination of original and repeat programming) by 37% (2.6 vs. 1.9).

the BB9 debut is coasting because...

...BB7 and BB8 were so good. Retarded Idol can't retard BB's momentum.

    by lisa bent

Poor ratings in a regular-season slot made "Last Comic Standing" go away for a long time. Glad we were able to dodge that fate.

But did Jericho get better ratings then it did last season?

    by docbosch

Saying it rated better then Cane is not saying much at all. The writers strike my actually have improved Jericho's staying possibility.

great news about jericho, as for big brother, never really liked it, liked it even less when it started ripping off survivor. which still is the best and most successful of all reality shows.

BB's growing success = good news for Jericho

    by mcgowanleg

BB ratings always build as people start getting booted off. This gives Jericho a better lead-in, and Jericho needs to do better than (not just as good as) last season if it wants season three.

Strike is over, where is The Unit, CBS?

    by tehbigivan

Late last week I talked with my older brother and he said "Hey Big Brother and Jericho are starting Monday." To which I replied "What channels are those on?" I understand someone somewhere watches those shows, but I never heard anyone say "Hey, did you catch Jericho last night." Someone talk to David Mamet and let me know the fait of The Unit.

Jericho deserved a second season so it's good to see that the suits should have ordered a full second season instead of just 7 episodes.

a 1.9? for a premiere!? Jericho is toast! No way will they improve on that number. NBC is about to cancel Friday Night Lights, which averages 1.7-1.8.

    Ashley Scott at Wondercon!

    by zardoz

She'll be there with Lennie James showing a new episode for a panel discussion on Sunday the 24th. Also, Summer Glau for a Terminator Panel. I may go Sunday, but I'm definitely going on Saturday. (David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson for X-Files 2, Anne Hathaway and Steve Carell for Get Smart, Jon Favreau fro Iron Man and the Justice League premiere!)

    Jericho

    by blackguard

I had high hopes for Jericho. I watched the entire season 1 last year after hearing it was cancelled and really got into it. Then I saw the first 3 episodes of season 2 and felt like all the momentum they built up was just lost. They left off on a huge cliffhanger with an impending skirmish and season 2 skipped it entirely! Ok, they MENTIONED it. Lame. I don't see this being picked up for a full season order. Save your nuts.

I was a little disapointed in last night's episode

    by tvguy4566

I was looking forward to a season of Jericho/New Bern battle. That was what really started to drive the second half of last season.
I understand that they had budget cuts and filming a war all season would have been expensive, but I felt the resolution was a little too unsatisfying.

Putting a spin on Jericho's bad ratings...

    by bill clay

I'm a true blue nuthead, but every other media analysis says that Jericho's debut rating was a disappointment. It came in second, possibly even third, in it's time slot. I'll keep my fingers crossed but I think these 7 episodes will be all we get.

    Eli Stone

    by series7

Man where is the talk back for that show. I wasn't sure at first but now its proven its a much better show then Bionic Women/Heroes/Pushing Daises/Journeyman/Life, and we got to hear about those boring ass shows all last season. Stone was ten times more interesting and better acted then Lost was tonight.

    New Bern vs. Jericho War

    by prof. pop-cult

Actually, I'm kind of glad they tabled it. It wasn't all that believable to me, and felt forced. The impending civil war between the USA and ASA is far more interesting and relevant.

Jericho's bad ratings should be good

    by inwosuxred

The last thing that show needs is another extension to wrap things up. If they end on any type of cliff hanger, they deserve to not be able to finish their story.
