Cameron gives his AVATAR star to McG's Terminator flick?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I really like Jonathan Mostow as a filmmaker, but I hated TERMINATOR 3 with a passion. That movie felt so far removed from James Cameron's films... it felt so hollow and cheesy and flat... I saw it in the theater when it first came out and tried to give it another shot on cable, but I just can't bring myself to watch it again.
That said, as much as a McG TERMINATOR movie doesn't sound appealing to me, I'm loving the direction he's going with the cast. Christian Bale as John Conner in a trilogy of Future War Terminator movies really gets my geek juices flowing. Not only does that guarantee a level of quality, it also gives hope that the script was strong enough to attract Bale (considering he could probably take the paycheck on any number of other projects if he wanted to).
Now it looks like James Cameron has talked to McG and suggested Sam Worthington, star of Cameron's own AVATAR, as one of the co-leads. And McG, smartly, took his advice. It looks like Worthington will join the film as a character named Marcus.
All that plus McG saying he's looking for a James Brolin type to play the skin-on Terminator gives me a lot of hope for this project. Who knows if he'll actually get Brolin, but I like that he's going the exact opposite of that horrible Sarah Conner TV show... no 'roided out male model terminators, please...
What do you folks think?

It's more interesting than everything else around
-
The only explanation for a James Brolin Terminator would be that he got fused to his walker like Brundlefly
-
I'm now officially interested in this. Too bad it amounts to little more than Quint's usual sloppy half thoughts -- because the elder Brolin as a terminator is so crazy it just might work.
-
Good casting. But Im not too excited about extensive wire work or slow me in this. Ill give him a fucking shot. Ill even see it in theaters. But I still smell doo doo. But I gotta love Bale. I dunno. Its too early. Atleast Cameron didnt look at his phone and go....McG? ....OH.....OH SHIT NO!!! NOT HERE!!!
-
Have some respect.
-
If this movie turns out to be good it will be a fucking miracle, but Christian Bale's involvement gives me hope. So would Brolin. The director's track record, unfortunately, doesn't. What did this guy do to convince people he can fill James Cameron's shoes? He doesn't even have a Breakdown on his resume..
-
The masochist in me kinda wishes the terminatot brand to lose its value to the point that the studios would try milk its last dollars out of it by making "Terminator Vs. Robocop" ala AvP and all those universal monster movie cross overs.
-
biotch.
-
want his star to be in a piece of shit rip-off of his own work? Strange.
-
nuff said.
-
Terminator 3 never happened.
-
Shit.
-
All those new Terminator movies and tv series are fan fiction.
-
Bale guaratees a committed performance not a quality flick. Don't forget this is McG we're talking about.
-
Terminator 3 was alright, and the show rocks. You're a tool, plain aand simple.
-
Even if you pretend that it isn't part of the TERMINATOR series it's still a shit film. It can't even make it on its own merits.
-
Im worried about terminator 4 but t3 doesn't suck and the sarah connor chronicals is surprisingly decent. so fuck all of you.
-
on the teevee show? The first episode rocked, and they've had only one less-than-stellar hour so far. And River's in it!
-
I actually enjoy the television show and have found it relatively entertaining. Albeit, two of the hottest women on screen right now share the same screen, so that helps in my liking of show on the basis of total eye-candy awesomeness.
-
"You don't want to get mixed up with a Terminator like me, Dottie: I'm a loner...a rebel."
-
...but TERMINATOR 3 is NOT a good fucking movie. I'd really like to hear somebody give their reasons for why they think T3 is a good film. It's easy to list what blows about it, I want to hear the good stuff.
-
the ending was cool and not expected. it takes balls to nuke the earth instead of taking the easy rout and having it end like t2. the action (with the exeption of the lame shootout in the cemetary) is all pretty awesome and non-stop. he flys a plane into the woman terminor, for fuck sake. It's a cool fucking movie damnit.
-
I've only seen the pilot, but I liked it and I've been meaning to catch up with it on Hulu. Actually, it reminded me of how smoking Summer Glau was, and I went and watched Serenity again. Always a good decision.
-
It might take him a few minutes to get up from his chair and walk over to you, but you had best watch out!
-
I'd hardly say the guy who played Matthew Ross in the 4400 counts as a "'Roided male model". Besides, I think the show is pretty cool. A lot closer in spirit to T2 than T3 was, and it has a lot of good ideas to it. A few dud moments, sure, but it feels like it's going somewhere good.
-
The TV show is well made and interesting. Have you seen it?
If I were to put the Franchise cannon in order it would be:
T2
Tv series
T1
T3
-
But putting the TV series AHEAD of T1 is just wrong
-
Try the Rifftrax version of T3. It is way more watchable.
-
I'll give you the ending. That part I actually thought was above-average.
-
because it destroyed all the careful continuity that Cameron had beautifully built up in his films. T3 was like a straight to video 80s action movie. It was empty. Whereas Cameron always had thematic depth in his screenplays. CuervoJones was right, T3 and the TV show, and the new McG film are basically fan fiction. When is T4 released? Isn't it next summer? Why would Cameron pre-empt Worthington's appearance in Avatar, which isn't released until Christmas next year? Unless he wants to boost Avatar's BO chances by placing Worthington in a potential Summer 09 blockbuster.
-
"Once the terminator was capable of understanding why humans cry, they evolved. Now they hunt us, emotional, hyper-sensitive killing machines. They hide among us wearing My Chemical Romance shirts and more eyeliner that a Maybelline model. With tears as a shield they'll kill every last one of us...and write bad poetry. Now you know why we have to stop them..."
-
what are you smokin'? The TV series better than the original Terminator film?
-
Terminator 3, the series and this upcoming piece of glossy, bound to bomb crapfest directed by no other then by one of hollywoods gloating douchebag's, shouldnt ever be considered cannon in any shape or form.As far as i am concerned, the saga ended with t2 and that's that.
-
but I feel that is because it was saved by the ending.
-
"Don't you remember me? 'Hasta la vista, baby'?"
Apparently John forgot that the T-800 was melted at the end of the last film.
And that Sergeant Candy scene is one of the worst thing I've ever witnessed. Worse than EPIC MOVIE and THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL combined. I don't care if they left it out of the movie. They still went through the effort of scripting and shooting it. There's no fucking excuse for that. -
Seriously, it almost amazed me that it turned out to be merely mediocre, with some truly shit moments but a good ending. Really don't know what to make of T4. On the one hand, Bale. But on the other, McG. Haven't seen the series yet so can't comment there.
-
Why would anybody make a black Terminator? Oh wait, that isn't what you meant...
-
So obviously I'm following it religiously.
-
And I think Josh Brolin would be awesome as a Terminator, he can do that hardass blank look that being a soulless killing machine needs.
As for the Sarah Connor Chronicles, I don't get the hate for it, I think it's building up a very intriguing backstory. There have been a lot of disparate plot points and characters that all seem to be weaving together into a bigger planned story arc which I think is very intriguing. Plus they finally made Terminators seem scary again when that one T-888 was going around wearing the ski mask to hide his face. I hope this show gets a chance at a second season now that the strike is over. -
I just can't get excited about a film directed by a man who calls himself McG (oh, and he makes shit films to).
-
Had some enjoyable moments...however what saved the film and the whole trilogy no less was the dark ending bringing the story full circle. Having the franchaise finish with the happy ending of T2 ruined it for me to be honest. McG and more Terminator films...no thanks. The Sarah Connor Chronicles, no thanks!
-
Terminator 3 is for retards.
-
and it's going to steal T4's thunder. All anybody really wanted to see was a little more of the future war and it looks like that will be in next week's episode.
-
The one evokes the word "quality" and the other evokes the words "full throttle". Sure would like McG to prove me wrong, though.
-
And no, it does not take balls to nuke the earth when the entire franchise has always hinged around the Earth getting nuked from the beginning. Where was the nightmare of the Judgement Day foretold? A couple of cgi missiles over a barn?
"canon" begins and ends with Cameron...
IN ORDER::
{T2, T1.... that T2-3D ride, youtube videos of Honda's ASIMO, ...T3, Sense and Sensibility, & the after-school Sarah Connor tv show.}

Ha. Now that would be funny.
-
But as a Terminator movie, it sucked big balls.

Kyle Reese's brother is on the TV show now, plus future war next
by mike_d
it already has T3 beat, so there quint!
-
To quote Arnold in the flick: "Talk to the hand."
The worst.
TV show grows on you. Better than T3, at least.
-
I had an overdose of T1&T2 (too many replays...), now when I want to see a T movie I watch T3!
TV show needs to find some exiting twist cause, if not, it won't last more than one season. -
good "end-of-the-world" feeling with no extras in the streets, the film focused on the main 3 characters; I loved Stahl's take on John Connor I thought he brought humanity and frailty to him. The film was well-paced, some good action treats... Good points.
Then goes the humor. It sucked, can't disagree with that. HOWEVER, Mostow was clever enough to use it in the first act, and that benefitted to the movie: the cynical, anti-Arnie crowd were tamed by the tongue-in-cheek stuff and people open-minded enough could endure it for the first act and forget it as the action kicks in. Taht was a clever move from Mostow IMO.
Oh, and the ending was absolutely brilliant. Helped redeem a lot of the cheesy stuff (which was pressent in Judgement Day as well, Iron Jim is a God but he doesn't say no to a good cheesy one-liner either. You know it to be true.) -
I haven't seen him in any memorable movie (as far as I remember) but I guess he's good enough if he managed to get the lead in the 10 years gestating Cameron film. If Josh Brolin was cast (BRILLIANT idea for a Terminator) and a good female lead added to round up the casting, then it could be relly exciting. CHUD's script review was pretty optimistic and God knows they're far more difficult to please than Harry. Which is another good sign.
-
They both took everything the previous two movies set up and took a massive dump all over them. If you're going to make a sequel - have some respect for the source material. Additionally, they were both just shitty movies.
-
lead the story far from the "you-can-change-the-futur-if-you-realy want-it" bullshit. No, you can't change the futur Kyle described us in T1. It is the futur, no matter what the caracters does. To me T3 really stay true to the first 1.
-
It was miles better than T3
-
What a waste of energy
-
and this is going to be so far from what we know as a Terminator film, it will be sad.
-
SPOOKY COINCIDENCE THERE EH?
-
Bale Equilibrium owns. Nuff said. I've been following TSCC, and truth is on its own merit it's a decent show, but I'm still angry about it going against T1 and T2 canon. At some point isn't the FBI guy supposed to find out that their are terminators, and join Connor's side? I thought that's what I read in an early synopsis.
-
...and then I kind of like then new Terminator TV show. As always the kid is a bit annoying, but I am VERY surprised to like the new Sarah, and I love little terminator chick. Didn't expect to at all. Her face has an interesting balance of cute and strange, and she can go all machine dead eyed like nobody's business. Because she isn't just some hot chick you feel all protective of her even though she's a badass...call me crazy.
-
Was it in the same league as the first two films? No, but it was a solid flick with a great dark ending.
If you want to hate on something, how about saving it up for McG's inevitable green-screen with wire-fu?
-
No, really. For a few days there I just was disgusted with the entire medium. Jurassic Park 3 had almost done the same, but this one sent me over the edge. To go from such a professional production to... Whatever the fuck THAT was, well, it just was offensive. The amount of oddballs defending it back then only made it feel more like people were just unquestionly drinking & eating shit. The TV show is a TV show. Not onboard with it, but whatever.
-
Does that mean Barbra Streisand is the new Terminatrix? *shudder*
-
So which time line are these new movies going to follow? Since the producers of the show say that the show is on an alternate time line to T3. Is T3 just going to be the movie that never happened? And stop hate'n on the show. Just cause Herc is the only one who likes TV on this site doesn't mean there aren't any quality shows out there. TSCC and Lost have more quality than most of the movies out right now.
-
WHile it helps that it was the only sci-fi show on during the strike it still holds a lot of great potential. SUmmer is damnhot as usual and still puts forth a great performance. Lena is a capable actress who is slowing finding her version of sarah(which has differed a lot from linda hamiltons take). and the action and f/x have compared greatly to the movies. The show is slowly sinking deep into the mythos of the franchise and bring all kinds of cool shit to light. For instance david austin green showing up as kyle reese's brother. if the show makes it to a 2nd season it could be even better.
-
okay, here goes...
T3 is by far my favourite terminator film. And i'll go one step further, it's almost my favourite superhero flick... The special effects we're amazing. The car chase involving the crane truck was insane! the jump that kristanna lokken makes from the wooded bank to the top of the hearse was probably the most realistic superhuman jump i've ever seen on film. and don't get me started on the fight seen in the bathroom, two robots with superhuman strength beating the living crap out of one another. has there ever been a fight seen as good and realistic as this in any of the X-Men, Superman, Spiderman movies???? i didn't feel like i was in some CG nightmare, it felt real!!!
strong performances from claire danes and nick stahl.
i was unhappy to hear that mostow isn't on board for the next one and i'm pissed off that douche bag Mcdonalds is. -
Nevermind the bland execution, the subject matter mentioned above was the main turnoff. Fighting in a bathroom? Male strippers? A chase with a hearse?!? The movie just never stopped trying to fuck with us.
-
T3 was a worthy successor of the first two films. There was some cheesiness, it's true, however you have to get over the fact that ITS NOT JAMES FUCKING CAMERON. get over it. If every impressionist painter after van gogh was considered against his work they would have all sucked fat cocks. Get over the fact it doesn't follow the exact same formula from movies that were literally made more than 10 years apart. Stop whining about how bad T3 sucked. The crance/car chase scene was fucking awesome and cristina loken is hot as shit. All you little cunts crying about sarah conner should put on denim jackets, watch sixteen candles and rub one out to Reese.
-
...Van Gogh was a Post-Impressionist. Sorry.
-
why do you hate fighting in a bathroom???
there was a fight in a bathroom in casino royale, do you hate that too?
chase with a hearse? who cares that they were in a hearse? it made for a good scene.
male strippers - okay you got me, that part was lame.
-
There's no model Terminators in it and I don't see how someone can insult the show and T3 in the same article. SCC actually FEELS like Terminator. Next week is future war with T-600s!
-
EVERY ONE ALWAYS SAY THAT AND NO ONE EVER EXPLAINS WHO THE FUCK THAT IS! YOU KNOW WHAT? FUCK McG I HATE McG!
-
WTF? It was like..the top show last year in Canada AND IT'S FUCKING GREAT. Ban this guy from watching TV.
-
Get Josh Brolin... (Quint you dickhead. The TV show is good._
-
T3 is enjoyable, T2 is a great movie, T1 is dated and worn to me now which is why I ranked it lower then the tv series which brings a refreshing added dimension to the cannon.
If you think the show sucks, maybe you should actually watch it before you spill crap from your mouths. -
I like Josh Brolin but I doubt he'll be a terminator. Doesn't really fit the part if you ask me.
-
"T1 is dated and worn to me".....??!! You shame yourself and your family. You're on notice!
-
Is surprisingly good, as the other talkbackers are saying. It's definitely smarter than the third movie. The effects and action suffer a bit from the television budget, but that's just a case of getting your expectations in line. And it did a nice job of acknowledging T3 before wiping it out of existence with a bit of time-traveling retcon. There really should be weekly talkbacks about the show at AICN.
-
I agree and disagree. T3 was bad, but the ending was cool. McG could do a very bad ass version of a Terminator movie, Christian Bale is the #1 reason it could be so bad ass. But I disagree with Quint, I like the Fox show. Granted, it could be better, but everything could be better. I like the direction and the ideas they're putting into the show.
-
T3 was surprisingly good. T2 does NOT hold up. Look at all the sentimental cheese in T2 ("I know now why you cry"; thumbs-up, etc.).
-
Like we almost did in T1?
-
Mind you I watch little to no network TV but I'm really surprised how good it is. Great cast, great story, great action. I didnt like John Connor at first but he's growing on me. The rest of the cast is damn near perfect. I cant see how they can keep up this pace and I keep waiting for the show to take a turn for the worse but so far so good. The only thing I thought was stupid was in the first episode when one of the Terminators disguised himself as John Connor's teacher and discovered who he was by TAKING ATTENDANCE!!! "Class dismissed..." Besides that, it's damn near perfect. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than T3 (which wasn't horrible but just not worth watching more than once or twice). In comparison, I've watched T1 and T2 about 100xs EACH. I dont see how any fan of the first two could LOVE the third but whatever...
-
So far, I like it. Based on the previews for next week, it could be about to get real interesting. A 3 picture "Future War" would be excellent...especially with Bale.
-
It seems Cameron has some say which is good. Even though McG, I mean what the fuck, when the RoCK is in a movie he uses his real name. Same should go with McG, just use your real name, it would make me sleep better at night.
-
He's like 5'5''
How scary would somone looking up at you be...the answer? Not scary. -
...in the awesome Garret Dillahunt. So no, Quint, the show actually DOESN'T have a roided out male model as the main bad guy.
Now, as for the show's quality...let's just say its lucky the writer's strike prevented other shows from going on air. This thing's a guilty pleasure all the way. -
...Summer Glau's also not hard on the eyes.
This means the combined body mass of the two main terminator's on the show is probably less than Arnold! -
Feb 13, 2008 1:28:14 PM CST
Height has nothing to do with a Terminator being effective.
by snakecharmer
-
Brolin could do so much with face and how walked. Cameron originally intended the Terminator in part 1 to blend in to the population. Then, he met with that freak Arnold. T2 does hold up kid. T3 has a decent ending when you see the launch of the nuclear weapons. Terminator is Cameron. I watched the first episode of the show but wasn't that impressed. I wont hold my breath for the new trilogy. AVATAR will rule. Anybody who has read the treatement has knows what i mean. Snakecharmer, out!
-
I loved that movie with a passion. Seriously. I thought it hit all the right notes and tied up a LOT of flaws that Terminator 2 created. Aside from the special effects and the "epic" quality of the film, T2 does NOT hold up well. It's ridiculously corny and cheesy in some parts (the thumbs up at the end, for one thing. The T1000 making Sarah Connor call for John when he could CLEARLY do that himself, for another).
-
Got un my 'puter last night and watched 3 eps after the pilot. I was surprised by how well its made. I liked the narration during the eps like the story of the men behind the first nuclear bomb, or the legend of the golem and its maker. Gives the show some depth. It was strange at first that there's all these terminators in the past with various missions, but it kinda makes sense too. Also like that resistance fighters were sent into the past to prepare for the war.
Personally I think a the T-100's or whatever they are, should be the male bodybuilder type, cause its the only frame that can cover that model-type. I hated the idea of ANOTHER female terminator, but surprisingly Summer does a good job. I'm just waiting for a T-1000 to show up and fuck everything up... maybe in the season ender? -
Feb 13, 2008 1:36:07 PM CST
in fact I like T3 so much, I refuse to watch the tv show.
by cotton mcknight
The Sarah Connor chronicles ignores Terminator 3 completely, so to me its nothing more than fan fiction or some weird alternate reality that I have no interest in.
-
the great bathroom fight was lifted nearly whole from the classic Hong Kong action movie SAVIOUR OF THE SOUL, which also inspired the look and feel of X-Men and every superhero movie made since. I'm just saying.
-
I have seen sergeant candy, and no I do not include that when I speak of the redeeming qualities of terminator 3. Seriously though, Terminator 3 was good. Not only did it take a direction none of us expected, it answered a lot of questions as to how exactly Skynet gets control. Before this, Skynet was just this vague concept. I seriously doubt that Cameron himself had any clue as to how judgment day, were it to actually occur (and not delayed like in T2), would go down. So you have to give the writers credit for that. The use of the internet was extremely smart- It makes the whole trilogy feel as though it was mapped out from the beginning, instead of made up as they went along. Which of course it clearly was.
-
I just dont see how anyone could truthfully believe that...
-
...to an extent. It acknowledges Sarah's death to cancer and sort of runs concurrently with the T3 timeline, only elsewhere. Really, though, when anything is based on the logic of time travel everything about chronology gets fucked up, even in the first two movies.
-
This series is now like the Die Hard sequels where nobody cares about which "direction" it's going to take or the "developement of the characters". We know it's just a cow they'll milk long beyond any reasonable conclusion of the story (which happened at the end of T2). T3 onwards will just be standalone one shot action pictures that can be fun once, but they're sequels to Terminator in name only.
-
I actually like the show. But then again I had very very low expectations going in. The chick Terminator is still chessey, but not as bad as a I though she would be.

and I like the TV show Sarah Conner better than Linda Hamilton
by santiagoatez
Never did like Linda Hamilton...
-
T3 had its moments, but never strived for anything beyond a clone of T2. The concept for T4 is HORRID - a John Connor cameo and a cryogenic hero who wakes up after Judgement Day with McG directing? The writing on the television series is much better.
-
WTF? What exactly was Arnuld in T1 and T2?
-
That guy needs to eat, he would make a perfect Terminator.
-
I like to think that the TV Terminators are all T-600 bulky warrior models, the skin isn't to blend in so much as to confuse the issue when they swarm a rebel base. The human instinct to hold fire when they think a human is in danger gives Skynet a brief advantage when the battle begins. And with a supercomputer measuring success in milliseconds and nanometers, those brief moments we take for granted are used to the fullest by the supercomputer.T3 was fun, and the ending was pretty cool. I liked the John Connor in the movie, and I agree, TV show Sarah is way better than T2's Sarah Connor.
-
Anyone else having the problem of trying to click on a post? Of course if you are, you can't read this anyway.
-
It was a great story, with great tension. Not enough Iconic images and soundtrack.
-
That's some good comic books and works well in the Terminator universe.
-
I thought the same and I got it the other day for the first time since I saw it in theatres in 03 and I was surprised that I really liked it, even though it could have been better(though I did love the ending when I first saw it, it was unexpected, i don't think anyone saw that coming) I realize the movie just needed better vision, the script and the beats that happen are fucking good.
-
see the movie again and you'll realize it's a good movie in it's own right, should of been better with less pedestrian vision. I equate it to a Geoff Johns comic drawn by Howard Chaykin.
-
When did McG become director? And I was so looking forward to this movie.....
-
That's like choosing to eat shit rather then chocolate and it's not because it's Cameron-less, but because it's shit. If you don't like that OMG LIEK TALK TO THE HAND!! SHE'LL BE BACK ROFL
-
Arnold is a T-800, they're basically the same make. T-600 had rubber skin and will be on next week's episode.
-
I'm not the biggest fan of either McG or Bay...but I understand their talents. I was actually very optimistic about Bay's TRANSFORMERS and enjoyed the summer popcorn-ride that he delivered, as much as I expected. As to McG's TERMINATOR flick, I continue to be even MORE optomistic...as I'm thoroughly convinced that McG has oodles of talent left in his tank. I'm a believer in McG's talent, even if my fellow talkbackers don't see it. This flick is going to be a big surprise. You wait and see.
-
Let's hope for a stroke
-
Fuck man that shit made me laugh out loud.
-
Always thought that would be a goored fit to move past the "Arnold Era" of the series.
-
...the Terminator. Duh. No Brolin for you.
-
Strong, funny, interesting, engaging. It's everything T3 wasn't and fits in well with the T1 and T2 storylines/universes. What exactly is the problem? Lighten up, people.
-
If you don't like 'roided-out Terminators, then you must LOVE the female Cameron Terminator. Or is there a reason not to like her too?
-
I've re-watched both recently and find T3 way better. T3's action and story are more engaging. T2 is silly and dated. you know what isnt't re-watchable "The departed" whats up with music playing thru out the whole thing. It zapped the movie of any subtlety.
-
Give him a break guys. Quint DOES have the worst taste. This is the guy who like Oceans 12 more than Oceans 11. REMEMBER?!? But, the guy seems like a really nice dude and is a real workhorse for the site. Having said that, he is not know for his reviews and opinions for a REASON guys.
-
From the campy rehash of the biker bar scene in T2 (ooo, funny, Ahhhnold is wearing pink sunglasses) to the other campy humor (the Termatrix has an inflatable pump for her breasts) to never really buying Nick Stahl as the future savior of the human race. Sorry, Stahl is a good actor, but never once did I feel his version John Conner was strong enough, charismatic enough, or assertive enough to ever become the man who would lead all the survivors of the human race to victory against Skynet. Yes, I know they wanted to show him as a guy who thought his destiny was a lie and his downward spiral, but I would expect to see glimmers of the leader he becomes. Stahl seems to let everything happen to him and seems to be more of Ahhhnold's sidekick.
As for T3 being better than T2, are you freakin' kidding me? T2 is classic. Maybe for the youngin' who were too young to see it in the original theatrical release and seen it after all the movies that liberally lifted from this movie, they don't see T2 in how it was groundbreaking in special effects and just as an action movie. Cameron is one of the few directors able to make strong female action leads really kick ass. Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor as Sigorney Weaver's Ripley on steriods. -
It's very quickly becoming my favorite new show.
-
It was the most logical ending imaginable, especially given the fact that it was obvious Ahnuld wouldn't come back for more. Till the end I thought they wouldn't have the balls to do that, and was pleasantly surprised that they chose the ballsy/emotional and meaningful ending. It suits the understated dark atmosphere of the flick (no extras in the streets, as I stated before, gloomy score...) and makes a good contrast with the lame humor in the first act.
People can bitch about T3 but they just can't, in all fairness, rob John Mostow from two things: the solid way he handles action, and above all the understanding of what T3 (a schizophrenic threequel starring a washed-up actor in a world where audience is much more cynical than in 1991) needed to work both economically and artistically. They NEEDED to appeal to the skeptical audience (hence shitty humor to suspend haters' disbelief), they NEEDED a fragile hero and a new female lead to support Arnie's character (Stahl was a good combination of frailty and survival instinct, Danes was fine too), and ultimately they made good use of these needs and came up with a movie far better than the fuckin catastrophe all of us expected. Of course it wasn't a revolution like T2, but it was a solid action movie and a good way to introduce a new chapter. Without Arnie.
So far T4 (they have to change the horrible pulp title) looks good: Bale hismelf is a seal of quality, Worthington must be good since God approves of him, and McG made no secrets about his ambition to leave screwball action behind him and gain respectability. I'm ready to give him a chance: at least by being humble and acknowledging that respect must be earned and not bought (like Hack Pack members like Brett Ratner, Tim Story or Len Wiseman tend to think with their shitty blockbusters) he made a step in the right direction. Besides, first reviews of the script are positive and the budget guarantees good visuals (without being handicapped by a megastar's undeserved salary). Smells good, people: it may end up tasting like shit but at least be honest enough to admit that it's shaping up nicely. -
they're all pretty fucking dumb. arnold schwarzenegger as a robot? for fuck's sake, it ain't Casablanca.I think the brain donor that did Charlie's Angels is just the right level of stupid for the next pile of shit in this turd train...

I still don't get how it was good for Stahl to play a "fragile"
by tvguy4566
People commend Mostow and Stahl for making John Connor "fragile", "human", etc. John Connor was trained from infancy to be the leader of humanity vs. the machines. When other kids were playing in little league, he was training with geurillas in the jungles of Central America.
I understand what they were going for with having Connors starting the movie being betrayed by his own destiny and dealing with the ramifications of that, but the guy was bred to be a fighter and a leader and Stahl played Connor so passive that he basically let life and the people around him almost lead him. Even Arnold's Terminator wouldn't take orders from him over Claire Danes' character.
Even if Connor was supposed to be screwed up by Judgement Day not coming when it should, he would still have a lot of the character traits that were ingrained into him since he was a child. I still think that ruined the movie for me at least as to where it fit in the whole Terminator legacy.
It was sort of like Die Hard 4 where John McClain went from the everyman character that made the franchise into a stereotypical action hero that can do almost anything including jumping from helicopters, cars moving at 100 MPH, etc. I felt that Stahl's Connor betrayed the character like that. -
but not a very good Terminator movie, especially compared to the two masterpieces of action and sci-fi that preceded it. If it was a stand-alone film, with nothing to do with the series, I would've liked it more. (but the plot was pretty damn stupid, really) I was actually pretty shocked with the TV show this week, with the intro of Kyle Reese's brother. That's pretty ballsy! I'm curious where they are going with that...

and was up there with Bardem in No Country For Old Men. If he got a bit buffed up for the role of a Terminator, I could see McG possibly hitting it out of the park. But only if the script is good. That's the most essential thing right now.
-
Fuck Casablanca, how is an Austrian Bodybuilder as assassin robot being a badass not fucking awesome. You always astound me with some of your retarded opinions. Just because you have a mouth, doesn't mean you should use it. Or in this case, fingers.
-
Not everyone forced to be trained to be a warrior are badasses from birth. Look at nightwing, the dude has been trained since a kid, by the time he reaches Bruce's age he'll technically be more skilled, but he doesn't have that warrior edge and badassness that bruce has, which is why he'll never be as effective, brutal or as good. I don't see how John Connor not being a total badass in T3 yet made a difference. Read Simon Furman's Terminator: Infinity comics. That has a good progression of John T3 to human resistance leader. And only in 5 issues.

Arnold deserves the paycheck, he brings happiness to many people, including me. Apart from that he owned in T3, I liked the way he moved when he said "we cannot stay, we are not safe here" and then the awesome quote when he last sees John and John says "thank you" and Arnie says "We'll meet again" that just ruled, I only thought about it cos my friend said he loved that bit and it made the movie.
-
break it down into a treatment. it's a fucking good story. problem is Mostow didn't have the vision to bring that story it's justice, it was a good movie but with someone else it could have been a great movie. the beats, the way the things move along, the way skynet comes alive, every little thing was great. But no Iconic framing etc and it feels like a Geoff Johns comic book drawn by Howard Chaykin.

Your premise may be right for Nightwing, but we know that John Connor grows up to be a bad ass leader who trains and leads the survivors of the nuclear holocaust to victory over Skynet and the machines. I didn't expect him to be a complete person that he becomes, but either you are a leader or you aren't. You can't go from follower to leader leader like that. You would expect Connor to at least show signs of his leadership skills. In the movie, even Claire Danes bosses him around at times. I don't see it.
I don't know how Nightwing who you claim never in his life reaches greatness compares to John Connor who everyone knows does reach greatness in terms of being the savior of the humans. Nightwing was trained and didn't have it in him. Connor was trained and he does have it in him.
Even Eddie Furlong and ClaireBear's "gay, but don't tell anyone or I will quite the show" friend from Hereos show more leadership skills, toughness, and aggressiveness than Stahl did. -

The Sarah Connor show just used a T2 deleted scene as reference!
by tallboy66
I thought it was a cool bit of business, when Cameron the Terminator ripped out another Terminator's chip from his skull, and the desgin was exactly like the scene in T2 when Aarnoldd had his chip removed by Sarah and John. Nice bit of continuiy there.

...it's downright laughable to bitch about T2. Morons.
-
I'll say it again... T3 SHITS ALL OVER T2 - and fixes up problems that T2 CAUSED with T1 that weren't there before...
but, to paraphrase a great comedy, that's just, like, my opinion dude... -
in T3 did the TX managed to 'remote control' the cars and truck? There's no mechanism to remotely turn a steering wheel, it made no sense. Not even little nanobots sent through the air could operate pedals and a gearshift. Gah! And don't try and convince me otherwise that it was Arnold's nekkid body in the first scene. Clearly a head pasted on and then after that he's covered from the neck down. Check the shoulders when he turns his head, there's no movement at all! Yes, he's in good shape for his age but there's no way he stayed looking the same between T2 and T3. The TV show has BTTF Part 2'd this film to an alternate timeline and it's a good thing.
-
Lance Henrikson was considered for the role and Stan Winston even did some mock ups of him as the T-800. He may be old but the guy has presence. If that doesn't do it for ya, why not base a terminator after John Connor himself, with a thousand look a likes running around who would know who to follow...
-
What problems did T3 fix that T2 created by T1? T3 totally disregarded the whole "No Fate" mantra of the first two and basically said that fate cannot be changed, but can be postponed. Even Skynet goes from a military defense system that becomes selfaware to being a virus on the Internet.
I don't know what T2 did to ruin the continuity of T1 other than have John age 12 years in six years time.
I felt that T3 disregarded a lot of the timeline and themes of Terminator 1. I didn't have a problem with that as much as I did have a problem with Stahl's portrayal of John Connor. That said, I don't know what they fixed either. -
...he fucked up worthington's changes to star in GI JOE , with his neverending shooting scedule for AVATAR!
