More on MONSTERS, INC. !!!!
Hey folkerinos, Harry here with a few more tidbits about what's going on in PIXAR's recently announced (long rumored) 4th Feature Film, MONSTERS, INC. Agent Big MacKaye has been around the ol board room for quite some time within this internet realm of AICN, and he's rarely (if ever) wrong. We know a bit of this from yesterday's press release, but most of this is not known. (at least I didn't know it) This is a project that I believe we all want to hear more about! Nothing like Monsters and Pixar teaming up! Though... MONKEYBONE might beat this film to the punch. Many of the aspects exhibited here are already in MONKEYBONE. Hmmmm.... We'll see.
OK, here's what I know about Monsters, Inc.:
Agent Big MacKaye reporting a little scoop about that Pixar project once
known as Hidden City. Monsters Inc. is about a parallel world unbeknownst
to human beings, a world of monsters who creep up under your bed and spring
out from closets when your parents aren't looking. The monsters live by the
screams and fear that they get out of children. With the advent of the new
century, jaded children aren't that easy to scrae anymore, so this world is
in jeopardy, experiencing their version of an energy crisis, if you may. In
comes our kind hearted hero monster, who simply wants to help his fellow
beings out, he goes up to the human world but accidentally lets a little
girl into their world.
That's all I know at this point, hope it please you, thy geek master!

Hasn't this story been done before in one contect or another. I mean it all seems so deja-vu. Its sounds a little like Jill Thompson's "Scary Godmother" in a way.
-
Has anyone here seem mad monster party? It was a stop-motion film a-la Rudolph & Frosty featuring all the famous monsters and was really goood. If you can find it. rent it. as should the makers of this film...
-
Is it just me or doesn't this sound beyond similar to that cheesy Fred Savage movie Little monsters that annoyed me so much because I kept on waiting for little Fred's inner voice to talk just like in the wonder years oh well
-
I have to agree with Suicidal King (who also gets my vote for coolest name of the day); this does sound a lot like "Little Monsters"...but there do seem to be a couple of major digressions from the plot of that shitstain. This sounds more scary. While "Little Monsters" had the monsters just being prank-pullers (one claiming that he could get your parents to blame you for the death of Abraham Lincoln if he wanted to), this new movie looks like it could be much more dark and sinister (*fingers crossed*). And Pixar does have the ability to make something scary (remember how disturbing the toys were at the other kid's house were in Toy Story?), so I hope they don't wimp out on this. Though I still prefer the title "Hidden City." So there are my two drachma. -Loki

I know this may seem easy a comment, but aren't you all afraid this movie will be a little corny. I'm real afraid of facing a carebear episode in movie form! The little girl going to their universe especially should give us second thoughts, I just don't feel this will live up to expectations.
-
i agree.....kinda reminds me of Little Monsters (name?)...with michael keaton. the movie sucked (obviously cuz i can't recall the name). Its time hollywood stops recycling old crappy movies and make new crappy movies. At least it will be original.

Hello! Wasn't this the plot of "Candyman"? Virginia Madsen wrote her thesis on the urban legend of the Candyman and then he appeared to her, telling her that people spreading his urban myth kept him alive. Does anybody else recall this? It was the fear of him that kept his soul going.
-
first of all it was Howie Mandel not Micheal Keaton in Little Monsters...don't ask me how or why I know that but I do...secondly i didn't think about it but yeah it does kind of sound like Candyman...thirdly If Pixars going to do this they've got balls...Pixar is knowen for the kid friendly movies, I cna't see taking my 10 y/o brother to this...at least not with this information

Does this have anything to do with the "Monsters Inc." comic soon to be released by Image comics?

Be a little creative. Monsters that dont come out when parents are around? Almost sounds like some toys that dont come out when people are around. Almost sounds like Little Monsters, almost sounds like... All the bitching about Antz and you guys cant even come up with an original idea. And as far as PIXAR making this a dark comedy. Dont count on it. If Disney has their hands in it, it wont be the least bit scary. They do not want to alienate anyone. -
Okay, let's step back for a second and look at this. First off, whether it's going to be scary or cheesy. This is Pixar we're talking about. It's not going to be "Scary" It may have it's creepy moments, like the Spider Baby from Toy Story, or the termites from Antz (not pixar, I know) But it's still gonna be a kid's movie with kid's merchandisng in mind. I'd say expect something along the lines of "Aaah! Real Monsters!" rather than "Candyman." And the comparison between this and Candyman's plot are pretty loose. It's like comparing Candyman to Peter Pan and the whole "Believeing in fairies/Tinkerbell" business. The plot sounds like a blatant ripoff of "Little Monsters" which, once again, was a kid's movie. And while it wasn't a great movie, it had it's creepy moments and neat visuals. For those of you that remember it, how about the villain that wore that human face in the "toy store" in monsterland? I expect the same thing from Pixar. Now, I love a good dark and creepy movie, or a good dark comedy. I also like "Toy Story" and "Bug's Life." But those of you hoping for a dark, creepy movie entitled "Hidden City" better be ready for a semi-dark, kids movie called "Monsters, Inc." (I know, the title sucks, but "Hidden City" is a little too serious-sounding for a kiddie-flick.)

This has always been one of my biggest fears with regard to the Disney/Pixar marriage- The Mouse using Pixar to undercut their competition. The plot does sound similar to Little Monsters, but the general concept sounds just as close to Monkey Bone, with which it'll be going more or less head-to-head. The trend is too obvious: Antz/Bug's Life, El Dorado/Kingdom of the Sun, now Monkey Bone/Monsters Inc. Story is now irrelevant next to Disney trying to stop their rivals from making any money. Toy Story proved that Pixar could deliver the whole package, but the three projects they've announced since have all been marketing vehicles, nothing more. I'm sure Monsters Inc. will look fantastic, though. Too bad that's all it will have going for it.
