Oy! Azaria is Abraham for Ramis! And Kah Mun Rah for Levy!

Published at:  Feb 12, 2008 1:39:38 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Hank Azaria's a busy dude this year. He's signed on to two movies... one I'm excited about and one I'll probably end up seeing... Shawn Levy is directing NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 with Ben Stiller and Amy Adams. Azaria will play an Egyptian Pharaoh named Kah Mun Rah.

Strangely, Scott Frank (OUT OF SIGHT, MINORITY REPORT and GET SHORTY) worked on the script, so maybe it'll be good... I must confess I enjoyed the first movie. I can't explain it... maybe it was seeing Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney chewing the scenery or I was just in the mood for a big budget retarded family comedy when I saw it.

More interestingly, Azaria will be playing Abraham in the Judd Apatow-produced Biblical comedy YEAR ONE, co-written and directed by Harold Ramis and starring Jack Black, Michael Cera, McLovin', Olivia Wilde, Vinnie Jones, Oliver Platt, David Cross and more... Can't wait for that one. I'm hoping to sneak onto that set since it's over in Shreveport, only 6 hours from here. I've heard the sets they're building for it are massive. Can't wait!

    JESUS: YEAR ONE

    by mullah omar

Wouldn't that be a bit like BABY GENIUSES done as a period piece?

Maybe Batman could even show up. Jesus could be his sidekick.

Scott Frank as a studio hack? having a script doctor that's actually a good screenwriter can only help projects. don't begrudge him a paycheck just cause he tries to make mediocre movies a little better. the guy wrote Out of Sight, which was great. wrote a lot of uncredited stuff on Oceans 11 which had a really sharp and well-paced script, and he wrote the best parts of Saving Private Ryan. you recently wrote in an AICN talkback picking a fight with a first poster...just sayin'

yup, nowt wrong with a script doctor

Let's face it. Most films could probably do with one.

which parts of SPR did he write? Because the script is one of my big issues with that film.

Scott Frank worked on Saving Private Ryan?

    by knuckleduster

He just lost a few points in my book. Sorry, but I'm just not the biggest SPR fan. It's not bad, it's just so... ugh. Dunno. Just can't warm to it. That said, I still think Frank is a pretty decent writer. And if doing Night at the Museum 2 means he possibly gets to make another cool smaller movie like The Lookout, then fine.

Actually, a Jesus Trilogy would rock.

    by vadakinx

Year One: Complete with flashbacks to his birth, Jesus sets out on his mission, trying to convince everyone that he's not crazy as he works his magic.

    Year Two: The Next level

Jesus starts preaching to thousands of people, building up a following...the Romans take little notice but the Pharisees, afraid of losing their power, begin to plot against him.

    Year Three: Fan-Hitting Shit

People are raised from the dead, the Romans still don't care, most of the Jews don't care...but the Pharisees are becoming afraid so the unleash their plan...they turn one of his followers against him and soon he is crucified.

    Jesus Forever

This is where Joel Schumacher takes over...Jesus is resurrected, with nipples on his shroud and a funky new halo. The year is 2012 and Jesus has returned to save the world from Global Warming. Along the way, he meets a punk kid named Xenu who he trains and together they save humanity

    Jesus and Xenu

There is tension between the new team as 2 supervillains, Clinton and Obama plot to take over goth..er uh...Paradise, and turn everyone into hippies. Luckily, our heroes will have help with the arrival of Buddha, reimagined as a surfer chick. Together, the triumphant Trio work to take down the dastardly supervillains and their pawn, John McCain. With even more nipples and cheese, it's a rollercoaster ride that bombs at the box office...

    Jesus Begins

Throwing out the old franchise, we go back to the beginning as a young Jesus watches in horror as Satan kills his dad (God). Swearing revenge and wanting to bring justice to the world, he train, learning to harnass the power of miracles as he becomes - The Messiah.

    SPR

    by badmrwonka

supposedly, he worked on a lot of the Hanks dialogue scenes. the good ones, lolfor example, when Hanks finally admits what he does for a living at home, they had a long speech planned. Hanks felt that his character wouldn't say that much, and it felt hokey, so they had Frank polish it up and tighten it. also the scene in the church where Hanks is talking about how many men he's lost. I can't remember other specific bits.I agree some of SPR was hokey, but there were some pretty good moments of writing mixed in there.

    But...

    by tourist

...Aside from adaptations of other writers work, Franks track record is pretty shit. Although, I may be one of two or three people who really enjoyed Dead Again. I don't see what it matters when it comes to Night At The Museum 2 anyway. You could hire Gore Vidal and get an even worse flick than Caligula. "Idiot Character bumps head. Idiot Character pulls face. Idiot Character gets chased by CG".

    by colier rannd

...um no it isn't. Azaria, Cross and Cera in the same movie? Rock on! And I agree on "Night at the Museum". Perfect? No, but fun and yea Rooney and Van Dyke should get more to do than sell insurance on late night tv. I'm there!
