Tomei to grapple with Rourke in Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER!!!

Published at:  Feb 12, 2008 1:25:01 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Looks like Marisa Tomei is having a big upswing in her career and if you've seen her fantastic (and... revealing...) turn in WHEN THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU'RE DEAD you'll be as happy as I am to hear it.

She's just secured the lead in the Darren Aronofsky's THE WRESTLER, playing a stripper who wrestler Mickey Rourke turns to as he spirals down and out after a heart attack. I love all involved. This could be great, a new Rocky perhaps?

I've still no idea what was happening in The Fountain. Not a good idea to leave the audience out of your movie.

Aranofski doing a "wrestling picture" makes me think of 'Barton Fink'. "I want that 'Darren Aranofski' feeling!". Heheh.

i thought consumers would actually have a choice in the matter but i guess movie companies like to base their decisions on video game console sales.

    makes sense i guess

    Aronofsky should do 1984!

    by knuckleduster

Sorry, I keep saying it in the vain hope that he'll read this and think it's a brilliant idea. Anyhoo, I loved The Fountain. Loved every single second of it. This looks like a real interesting character piece; and The Fighter has me even more excited. Keep up the good work, Darren.

    In Aronofsky's defense...

    by grendel69

He really compromised with The Fountain and the film we got was hardly what he originally intended. At least he tried to do something different and interesting. If the film is a failure, its a interesting failure.

And Requiem For A Dream is a fucking masterpiece.

is incredible. I don't understand how anyone can say it "sucked" you may not have liked it but I know my friends and I are completely enamored with it. The music, the visuals and the acting are top notch, plus it's a cool take on a fascinating topic.

    by olsen twins_fan

What in Aranofsky's body of work indicates that he would make a movie with ANY resemblance to Rocky? Now Rocky III, I could see that.

Can't say that the team of Joe Pesci and Ralph Macchio was something I could watch for more than fifteen minutes. I checked IMDB and noticed she was in Four Rooms, which I did see, but I don't remember her character.

    Good cast...Good director...

    by tourist

But it sounds, you know, lame. It's like Aronofsky hasn't realised how shit a writer he is. He botched the adaptation of Requiem For A Dream, but his skills behind the camera and with actors still made it a great film. Nothing managed to save The Fountain, which is a shame, because again, it was another beautiful film.
