Pickups Return Fall's Most Successful Series: "Brothers & Sisters," "Desperate Housewives," "Dirty Sexy Money," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Private Practice," "Pushing Daisies," "Samantha Who?" and "Ugly Betty" Receive Pickups for '08-'09 Season
Today ABC Entertainment announced pickups for nine of its most popular shows, returning broadcast television's most successful fall series. ABC Entertainment ordered episodes of "Brothers & Sisters," "Desperate Housewives," "Dirty Sexy Money," "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost," "Private Practice," "Pushing Daisies," "Samantha Who?" and "Ugly Betty."
"The strength of our schedule this fall was unprecedented and speaks for itself," said Stephen McPherson, president, ABC Entertainment. "We're looking forward to building on that success."
On average during Fall 2007 (10 complete weeks: 9/24-12/2/07), ABC was the No. 1 network among Adults 18-49 (3.9/10), delivering the top position in the key young adult sales demo on 7 of the first 10 weeks of the season and ranking No. 1 during the November Sweep for the third consecutive year. In addition, ABC claimed eight of the Top 20 highest-rated TV shows among young adults during the fall, including five of the Top 10 freshman series.
"BROTHERS & SISTERS"

The compelling one-hour drama series is about a collection of five enmeshed and somewhat damaged adult siblings and their strong but passionately devoted mother, Nora Holden (Oscar and Emmy Award winner Sally Field).
The Walkers' lives have not been without challenge; romance, parenting, divorce, infidelity, addiction, war and even death have pushed each of them to the limit, but they continue to work toward living their lives as individuals, while loving each other unconditionally and trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy after the loss of their larger-than-life family patriarch, William Walker.

When she awakens in the hospital, she is surrounded by family and friends. The only problem is that she has no idea who they are or who she is. In medical terms, Sam has retrograde amnesia, which allows her to fully function in the world but leaves her with no personal memories. Most people would deem this disorder a curse. LOST!
-
At least one of those is worth watching.
-
...now let us know when Life is coming back!!! Life is the most underrated new show to come along in a long time.
-
I checked. Wasn't there. It's here now though, so don't worry.
-
What are they out of their damn minds? Damn you Ugly Fatty, Samantha Poo, Scrubs 2, Brothers fucking sisters... Damn you to hell!
-
Loves me some Kelly Bundy. I like evil Samantha, too.
-
Glad to see Daisies, but I was expecting to see Daisies renewed. Dirty Sexy Money continued to get more and more interesting each week, and always radically change the relationships between the characters in a natural way. Very pleased with where it was heading, and somehow, Krause is the least interesting character on it.
-
NNNOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
-
I don't care about the rest, at all.
-
well im prety sure the title says it all but Scrubs is definitely getting their series finale question is will it air, will they put it as never b4 seen on the season set or will they screw us release the season as epsidoes aired and then the last 6 on sepaate dvd
-
Pushing Daisies renewed! CSI: Dr Seuss gets season 2! Awesome!
-
Aren't the writers on strike?

Now that the strike is apparently over, will there be any more s
by jackislost
this season or do we have to wait until next season? I am particularly concerned about LOST but I would also love to see some more DAISIES episodes. I know they've been on strike for 4 months but surely they've been writing in the meantime, ready for the moment when this nonsense finally ended. At least, I hope they have some episodes ready to go into production. Otherwise, it's going to be a long, dry season...
-
Fixed the headline.
-
the rest of that crap can piss off for all i care...
-
All I needed to know. Now...if they could just get them on the same night....it would make my TV viewing easier.
Speaking of ABC...I saw a report on World News Now late last nite that was detailing "the Casualties of the Writer's Strike"...Like how 24 will not be getting any new episodes until 2009...but they also said Bionic Woman was cancelled. Not that I'm a fan...but did I miss that memo here on Coaxial? Considering how much bandwidth was devoted to that crapfest here at AICN...I thought there would be SOME mention of its passing. -
after already telling us the number of episodes we have left in the series. You know... unless ABC execs want millions of LOST fans out to murder them.Hey Node32774... can you give us a link to said article with Lindelof?!?!
-
here's the Lindelof article:

after the 8 episodes are over?
-
While I'm not terribly surprised about anything on the list (Grey's Anatomy? Seriously?), I am glad to know that Daisies will be coming back next year. That's a show that really came into its own near the end of the season.
-
Lindelof says ""I'd be surprised if the network wanted to air episodes deep into the summer."
Huh? Airing 16 episodes back-to-back would finish the show on May 15. The show has finished the week of May 22 most often. I know, because that's the week of my birthday, so I don't forget it. Not exactly 'deep into the summer,' it's more like late spring.
I'm hoping Lindelof is just trying to not jump the gun before ABC makes a decision, but if they think they can have episode nine ready the week after episode eight airs, or even after a week 'hiatus,' there's no reason we won't get the entire planned 16 episode fourth season. -
it will run for about 100 years.
-
is actually a good show, even now (thanks John Stamos!). Grey's Anatomy is like "Dawson's Creek" for grownups.

I would rehash my thoughts of Lost's remaining episodes...

But I have already done so over in the Lost "It Doesn't Scatter Quite Right" node....please check it out over there...I haven't the strength to type it out again here.

Did anyone else know Damon Lindelof wrote for a really bad...

show on MTV called "Undressed" which was basically grade-Z softcore porn? I love LOST and all but I just think it's kind of funny...
-
would've been a great line on UNDRESSED.
-
Haven't you ever taken a job that you knew wasn't up to your full potential, but you still needed money to pay for your apartment? Yeah, writers take jobs too. Now, Undressed wasn't horrible, but no, it's not LOST quality.
But notice that he was just an occasional writer on Undressed, whereas he's a showrunner on LOST. He didn't have the control over Undressed that he has on LOST, and I think we can all see the difference. -
Yet, at least. Dare we hope it goes bye-bye?
-
A that show only women and homos watch! (That and Private Practice.)
-
doh....
-
Now when do they start shooting?
-
cuz this i gotta see...thanks for the leak cbs, funniest 3 hours on tv yet.
-
at the most, a dramatic series can put out 3-4 more epis...comedies can push out a little more...but the studios do not want the season to go into the summer months (not sure why, but thats why i cant make the big bux)
-
fuck me...will god please stop taking the good ones? wanna talk a good comic book writer...steve was it...and a hell of a nice guy...shit...i really am crying
-
wow, thanks abc!
-
Wow. I've been pretty much on the same wavelength with DK for a lot of shows, but we're POLAR opposites on this one. For me, the more the thing's gone on, the more it has lost its way. The dynamic with the twins was very interesting, so what did they do? Split them up. The whole 'I don't want her to know I have money' crap is right out of a dull cartoon, the 'revelation' of who Dutch's other kid was, might have been surprising to exactly one person living somewhere in Idaho...Blair Underwood's character is all plot and no 'character' at all...I stopped watching. Virtually every plot thread became completely predictable.
-
I like how essentially it's a soap, but the characters are all well written and the acting is pretty solid. Its the most underrated show on their schedule. Don't get why it doesnt have a better lead in. It would have flowed better after Grey's Anatomy. Its also odd how similar William Baldwin looks and acts like Alec on 30 Rock. My brother got confused.
-
Lost should NOT be treated like crap and given a shitty timeslot. Put it on after dancing with the hasbeens on Mondays or have it follow Grey's Anatomy. Don't put it against Idol ABC.
-
I'd like to know how many more episodes we get this season (TV Guide estimates 6 more will be produced) and if we'll get more than the 16 episodes for the next two seasons (if they short us two eps this year, we most definitely should get 17 eps for seasons 5 and 6). I wanna know!

Did anyone read all of that? Once it got to the show descriptions I skimmed.I too ask "what about Boston Legal"? Will it be back? Right now I am on the fence as to whether I will continue to watch if it comes back. I don't think I've enjoyed a single episode this year (not to the degree I used to enjoy it). It is becoming a parody of itself. The revolving cast door is worse than ER's. And I can't stand the latest lawyer to join. In her introductory scene I said, with contempt, "isn't she sassy!".

and put Lost on twice a week!
