    Pixar's Golden Age is over.

    by stifler's mom

After one hell of a decade between Toy Story 1 and Incredibles, Pixar really hits the skids with Cars. Ratatouille was amusing and looked great, but definitely overrated. And sorry, but Wall E just looks like a cutesy version of Short Circuit.

    by stovetopstuffin'

even though Cars was a mild step backward, as far as story/character went, Pixar is amazing at knowing just what direction to go in. This is going to be like a Charlie Chaplain movie, and that tickles me to no end. I love that these guys are making a movie that, from what I've seen, relies on acting, and not fart jokes or celeb voice work. I'm sure it'll be just a few more minutes before someone says something completely hateful, and all I can say is, anyone who thinks it looks like crap, don't go to the theater. Let us enjoy it.

    On strike and Pixar

    by critch

Strike: I'll wait for someone more official to say the strike is over than Eisner, who's pretty much been wrong on everything for the last decade.

Pixar: If any production company has earned our respect and the benefit of the doubt, it's them. If the worst they've produced is Cars, then they need to be raised on a pedestal. Personally, I didn't take to Ratitoulle as much as the critics, but you cannot seriously deny the artistry and sheer storytelling ability told in that film. Roll on Wall-E, and anything else they want to do. Which hopefully will be Incredibles 2.

    by filmicdrummer17

Wow, wow, wow! Even on a dinky Youtube page, this could end up being my favorite film in a long time. Pixar can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned. Even an off day (Cars) is still miles away from the shit Dreamworks puts out on a regular basis. These guys just have the bar so high, a film that, under normal circumstances, would be considered "very good," is instead seen as "mediocre." It's a shame.

    Pixar IS The Incredibles....

    by ninja nerd

...when it comes to making great films. While my favorite is most definitely The Incredibles, there's not a single Pixar I don't like a lot.

I passed on Cars at the cineplex...I don't care much for NASCAR or racing in general...and was later sorry. It wasn't a 90 minute commercial for NASCAR...it was a totally excellent story!

Same with the last film...wasn't clamoring to see a movie about a rat that cooks. Turns out Brad Bird still hasn't delivered a turd pile...this was a nice film. Doesn't have the "rewatchability" that The Incredibles and Cars have, but still far better than anything else by non-Pixars.

And now, WALL*E. I'm thinking this will be somewhere between very good and a modern classic that future films are measured against. We'll see!

I think the creators of Short Circuit gonna sue somebody... But seriously, this will appeal to all ages and nationalities in a way that we haven't seen since the days of silent film. Classic story of Boy Robot meets Girl Robot, Boy Robot loses Girl Robot, Boy Robot goes after Girl Robot. And if you can't at least enjoy that, damn your cold, black heart.

    by kdoc13

OK, I am no Pixar hater, I actually liked Rat. But I wasn't big on Doc...er, Cars, and like Cars, the first previews I saw for this made me wonder what exactly the movie was about. This preview is better. Still, I can't imagine my kids sitting through a kiddie "art-film" which is more visual than vocal. And while beautiful to look at, especially the complexity and detail in every shot, I have to admit that I am not sure if I can sit through it either. We'll see. I am hoping it blows me away though.

Like other people, I was wondering what kind of movie Wall*E was going to be. Now we all have a better understanding. I think this movie looks like it'll be lots of fun to watch. Aside from the mildly annoying voice he has, his curiosty and amazing emotion he shows with such a simple structure will make his discoveries so much fun to watch. My interest just cranked up a notch or two.

Why does everyone want Pixar to fail?

    by performingmonkey

Amd people always say 'Cars sucked' when it fucking didn't, it just wasn't as good as Nemo, Incredibles and then Ratatouille also beat it. But just look at the fucking high standard those movies are at. As far as animation goes Cars was fucking excellent, and the voice acting was stellar. The main problem was the cars' faces, which is the one thing Pixar just couldn't get right. It didn't matter in the end though. Pixar are so good they take very simple ideas and run with them. Ratatouille for instance, it's about a rat chef coming to the aid of a sucky human chef. It's a ridiculous idea, PERFECTLY executed in fantastic inventive original movie.

    Looks Stunning

    by sambrook

Hopefully it will win over the cynics and the ignorant families confused about the lack of voices. Sweeney Todd got official complaints in the UK for not being advertised as a musical, what's the betting the same idiots will complain about the lack of silent movie warning with this one? And, to everyone who hates Ratatouille - especially those who wittily call it Ratbollocks or the like (fucktards) - I just don't get the hate. I bet half of you haven't even seen it. So it's not steeped in obvious comedy and full of action? So what. It's a hell of a sweet, charming, nuanced tale with real characters and emotion and wit running all the way through it, not to mention the stunning aesthetic. And the guy who said it resembled something of Dreamworks - fuck off and watch it back-to-back with Shark's Tale. You can dislike it but that comment was idiotic. Unless you saw a version with celebrity voices for every character, pop references in every line and a pop-filled soundtrack to shift the CDs, in which case I take it back.

I fell asleep during CARS. I really did. I had to be shakin to wake up. I appreciate the quality and the original characters, but wow. It felt like he paved that rode for 50 minutes of the movie.

    trailer is nothing

    by just some nerd

Saw Wall-E back in October when it was still mostly animatic. I thought it was fantastic, and potentially one of Pixar's strongest films, and probably its most different. This trailer is still only scratching the surface of the story. I can't wait to see it again when its complete.

It's just too much for me. Not a bad movie but not a classic. Bird's films are the best Pixar, followed by the TOY STORY flicks. CARS is at the very bottom. Everything else is pretty good.

CARS certainly has great commercial possibilities...

    by jackislost

Talking cars and whatnot lend themselves to that more than rats who like to cook. I don't blame Disney & Iger for exploiting it. But the movie isn't that great... it's a sub-par DOC HOLLIDAY in all-car universe (which remains baffling to me).

    by pipple

it's an incredible challenge. On one hand you coiuld hit it out of the park and create a rare 3rd sequel that can stand beside or above the original classic, or they fuck it up an fail miserably forever tainting the toy story name. good luck pixar.

Cheers mate. Wow. I never thought I'd say this about a pixar movie again but I am looking forward to that! That animation looks great as well. That quick shot of his hands ( I don't know any other word to describe them) looked real for a second. I love that when you see something that you think is real but is CGI (except for women. That makes EvilGeek1 cry)

Can a lil Robot carry an entire movie alone? Well he does have a love interest that comes along. Tom Hanks reached the girl and Will Smith ran into a girl while being alone.

    Forgetting Perspective

    by hyphenatedwords

"Laugh it up, Fuzzball," is *not* a witty line, but we laughed and laughed when we were eight years old.

E.T. plays like an after school special in many places, yet we were instantly transported into -- not a far away galaxy, but -- a bedroom and neighborhood with dust in the sunbeams and our bikes taking us everywhere.

I see the prequels through my 9-year-old daughter's eyes, and it lets me forget my expectations and recriminations. She hasn't heard enough dialogue to know when something is cliché or derivative. She watches Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and proves to me that I would have been blown away when I was a kid.

I'm obviously leading up to "Give Wall•E a break," but by this point it feels moot. Haters just like being haters.

All of that being said. DID ANYONE ELSE PICK UP ON THE FREAKING JAWS MUSIC AT THE END OF THIS TRAILER????? That made me very, very happy. If you thought it sounded familiar and couldn't put your finger on it, the brassy fanfare at the end of the trailer is from the end of the final credits in Jaws, as the tiny forms of Brody and Hooper pull themselves up to shore. Brilliant stroke.

a good family film hits at many levels...its great that you can watch a movie or show through your daughter's eyes, but i would be better if a part of that movie spoke to you...i remember watching the original batman tv series as a kid, and thinking it was great adventure, then watching it years later to see how tongue in cheek it was...and it was still enjoyable, just on another level...ff is not like that...sure kids can dig it, but as an adult i got no enjoyment from it...another great family show is animaniacs...and the same with pixar...every age can find something different about these movies...and wall-e looks totally brilliant...a throwback to when cartoons didnt need all the dialogue...i cant wait

    by irrelevntelefant

almost all movie toy lines see their sales peak the year the movie comes out, and then they drop off each successive year Cars is the first to see their toy related sales go up each successive year since the movie was released it's almost unheard of in the movie/toy industry

    by spencertrilby

Pixar may be hit-and-miss but I still love their weakest efforts (Cars, Ratatouille, Nemo or Monsters Inc.) ten times more than Dreamworks pieces of shit (insert any title here).

Judging by that trailer and my experience, I'm betting Wall-E will end up really, REALLY good.
