Pixar and MONSTERS, INC. news

Published at:  May 05, 1999 2:53:55 AM CDT

Back on April 15th of last year (1998), we began to first talk about this mysterious Pixar film, which we've heard was going to be called everything from LITTLE MONSTERS to HIDDEN CITY (which turned out to be Pete Docter's fave restaurant if memory serves) We've had a couple of 'alleged' images from preproduction on the site in the past, including this piece here

If you see or hear anything beyond this following Pixar press release let me know. I'm dying to hear about this project.

DISNEY/PIXAR ANNOUNCE PRODUCTION SET TO BEGIN
ON "MONSTERS, INC."

A May start date has been set for the production of "Monsters, Inc."
(tentative title), a new computer-animated feature to be produced by Pixar
Animation Studios under their arrangement with Walt Disney Studios, it was
announced today (5/4) by Thomas Schumacher, president of Walt Disney Feature
Animation, and Steve Jobs, CEO of Pixar. The film is targeted for release in
2001.

"Monsters, Inc." is a comedy set in the realm of things that go bump in the
night, where chaos breaks loose after a hapless monster accidentally lets a
human child into the secret world. This latest original title from Pixar
follows "Toy Story," "A Bug's Life" and the upcoming release of "Toy Story
2."

"Monsters, Inc." is being directed by Pete Docter, who received an Oscar®
nomination for his role in creating the original story for "Toy Story," and
David Silverman, the Emmy Award-winning supervising director of "The
Simpsons." Darla K. Anderson, who produced last year's animated blockbuster,
"A Bug's Life," is set to produce. John Lasseter, Pixar's two-time
Oscar-winning director, and Andrew Stanton, co-director of "A Bug's Life,"
will executive produce.

    Sounds cool!

    by unicorn

This sounds pretty cool, if a bit dark for Disney. Well, can't be any darker than "Nightmare Before Christmas" was (which Disney's now distanced themselves from by distributing the home video through thier subsidiary, Touchstone, and removing "Disney" from all the paraphenalia ). Back to the subject: it sounds like Pixar is trying to push the envelope a bit more, with more and more complicated images and scenes to produce in their films (as one can imagine will be needed for a story taking place "in the realm of where 'things go bump in the night'"). Good job, Pixar...I'm looking more forward to this one than to TS2!

    Little Monsters?

    by davehunt1

Huge Pixar fan here, but does this move sound like that horrible movie The Little Monster that was made in the 80's?

Has anyone seen the Gary Busey Classic, "Bulletproof?" Man, that

    by keithmelcher

This one time, I was watching TV and this big Frankenstein comes in and stands in front of me. I said, "Hey Frankenstein, look out you're blocking my vision of the irrepressible John Stamos!" All the Frankenstein said was, "UUUggghhhh." So I took out my lighter and lit it. The Frankenstein didn't like that and he moved out of my way. Nothing comes between my Full House and me. But that was a close one and a time I do not care to relive at the movies. Please keep that in mind you Pixar guys.

    And that pic

    by drath

Harry, isn't that pick from the remade anime, Vampire Hunter D? I haven't seen the entire film, so I can't tell, but the style is AWFULLY close. Pixar is good, but I hope they don't get too scary since Disney will naturally market the film for kiddies.
