Kilmer Replaces Arnett As Voice Of The KNIGHT RIDER Car!!

Published at:  Feb 07, 2008 12:13:31 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Val Kilmer ("Comanche Moon") has replaced Will Arnett ("Arrested Development") as the voice of KITT The Car in NBC’s new “Knight Rider” TV-movie. Arnett had to pull out because his contract with General Motors (he voices GMC Truck commercials) prohibited his voicing the Ford Mustang at the center of the project, due to air Feb. 17.

For those just joining us, the new “Knight Rider” was written by David Andron, who wrote an episode of NBC’s short-lived “Raines,” and directed by Steve Shill, who previously helmed episodes of the 21st century updates of “Dragnet” and “Night Stalker.”

The new project is the latest in a series of “Knight Rider” revivals that includes “Knight Rider 2000” (1991), “Knight Rider 2010” (1994) and “Team Knight Rider” (1997).

That his corporate commercial contract kept him out of a regular paying gig on a network show. I bet he makes more from the commercials though.

    by blondeman

Jeez....Doing a cameo in COMMANCE MOON was one thing, but playing the voice of Kitt in a shitty TV movie? He has made some good movies in the recent years he shouldn't be doing this crap. I honestly can't believe he is getting that much money either. If he wants to do tv now he should call David Mamet and maybe a get a SPARTAN tv show goin' or just join the cast of the UNIT playing the same character. I'd watch that.

Val Kilmer will do pretty much anything for money these days...

    by sledge hammer

And I imagine that's all this is to him, an easy money paycheck role, and one that would be pretty easy to do no doubt, likely requiring very little of his time to come in and loop some dialogue for, even if it goes to series, but voicing a car in a tv series remake still seems like slumming...this guy played Batman (badly) and The Saint (again, badly) fer christsakes. If he's going to make the jump to tv, surely someone out there with a quality show would be glad to have him on board. I mean this is the guy who did Heat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Ghost & The Darkness, Spartan, Wonderland and The Salton Sea...okay he also did Mindhunters, Island Of Doctor Moreau and Alexander too, but when he's actually interested and engaged in a role, and not merely doing it just for the money, he has it in him to be pretty damn good. But given that he's likely doing this strictly for the cash money I predict a very bored and dull sounding new KITT.

least we don't have to see his FAT ASS!

    by maniaq

I tend to agree with Bones - Daniels totally had that condescending tone to his voice that Kilmer always brings to each and every one of his characters (ok maybe not Elvis) and can do in his sleep!

I was never really that comfortable with Arnett - he's got that deep TV commercial voice over quality to his voice that worked well in the TV commercial as a joke, but is gonna get real annoying real quick if you have to listen to that during the SHOW as well as the commercials!

I really wanted Daniels to voice KITT again, especially if the artificial intelligence (the person, so to speak) in the new KITT is the same intelligence that was in the old KITT (which I hope is the case). I hope that Kilmer does a decent job. I want to see KITT's return go well, or at the very least not completely suck.

From the teaser(s) it seemed as Arnett was channeling KARR, you know, trying to sound cool. I personally feel the voice should not be cool or menacing but, like Daniels, annoying. Not overly, just enough to bug this piss out of the lead. Hopefully Kilmer can pull it off.
