Kilmer Replaces Arnett As Voice Of The KNIGHT RIDER Car!!
I am – Hercules!!
Val Kilmer ("Comanche Moon") has replaced Will Arnett ("Arrested Development") as the voice of KITT The Car in NBC’s new “Knight Rider” TV-movie. Arnett had to pull out because his contract with General Motors (he voices GMC Truck commercials) prohibited his voicing the Ford Mustang at the center of the project, due to air Feb. 17.
For those just joining us, the new “Knight Rider” was written by David Andron, who wrote an episode of NBC’s short-lived “Raines,” and directed by Steve Shill, who previously helmed episodes of the 21st century updates of “Dragnet” and “Night Stalker.”
The new project is the latest in a series of “Knight Rider” revivals that includes “Knight Rider 2000” (1991), “Knight Rider 2010” (1994) and “Team Knight Rider” (1997).

oh come on, all you 80's fans laughed!
-
That his corporate commercial contract kept him out of a regular paying gig on a network show. I bet he makes more from the commercials though.
-
Arnett woulda been awesome!!
-
This is really more Kilmer's speed these days anyway, neh?
-
...Michael Knight's gonna keep a "faggot gun" in KITT's glove compartment?
-
So the guy advertising for a $16,000 car is getting replaced by a guy who doesn't make that in three months? COME ON!!
-
Kilmer should have his own show like Law & Order or Salton Sea: The Series.
-
...his own show. C'mon, you know you want it...
-
...reminder as to who he is
-
anyway, gob needs to focus all his efforts on outdoing tony wonder in the new AD movie
-
If I were you, I would be smart, I would cut loose of this
-
He has that slight air of superiority that William Daniels had in the original show...
-
Jeez....Doing a cameo in COMMANCE MOON was one thing, but playing the voice of Kitt in a shitty TV movie? He has made some good movies in the recent years he shouldn't be doing this crap. I honestly can't believe he is getting that much money either. If he wants to do tv now he should call David Mamet and maybe a get a SPARTAN tv show goin' or just join the cast of the UNIT playing the same character. I'd watch that.
-
and I've lost that lovin' fee-eelin'!
-
there goes the only good thing about this project.

Val Kilmer will do pretty much anything for money these days...
by sledge hammer
And I imagine that's all this is to him, an easy money paycheck role, and one that would be pretty easy to do no doubt, likely requiring very little of his time to come in and loop some dialogue for, even if it goes to series, but voicing a car in a tv series remake still seems like slumming...this guy played Batman (badly) and The Saint (again, badly) fer christsakes. If he's going to make the jump to tv, surely someone out there with a quality show would be glad to have him on board. I mean this is the guy who did Heat, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Ghost & The Darkness, Spartan, Wonderland and The Salton Sea...okay he also did Mindhunters, Island Of Doctor Moreau and Alexander too, but when he's actually interested and engaged in a role, and not merely doing it just for the money, he has it in him to be pretty damn good. But given that he's likely doing this strictly for the cash money I predict a very bored and dull sounding new KITT.
-
I tend to agree with Bones - Daniels totally had that condescending tone to his voice that Kilmer always brings to each and every one of his characters (ok maybe not Elvis) and can do in his sleep!
I was never really that comfortable with Arnett - he's got that deep TV commercial voice over quality to his voice that worked well in the TV commercial as a joke, but is gonna get real annoying real quick if you have to listen to that during the SHOW as well as the commercials! -
I thought he was good in Deja Vu too, and Top Secret, for that matter - that line about his dad thinking up his name when he was shaving still cracks me up!

And Top Secret is a classic, no doubt. -
lolz. Of course the real answer is Val Kilmer (Top Secret, Real Genius)
-
Yes, Val. Yes, you are.
-
I bet he says that.
-
I drank what?
-
I like Kilmer and I think he's got a great voice for doing KITT type vehicles.
Now if only they could re-cast the shitty looking car they've obviously been paid to use for the new KITT. -
as mentioned earlier, I also found Arnett's kit voice a little too soft spoken, a little too....'yooooooohoooooooo' as Jimminy Glick would put it.
-
We'll miss you Gob. :(
-
Is that guy getting shut out of Hollywood for some reason, or does he just not give a shit what he does anymore?
-
That's why he cant get work. Fuck him. Fat bastard. Heard that he was so arrogant on the set of one of his movies that people werent allowed to look at him. Glad to see that hes reduced to voice work on a shit remake of a shit tv show! Hahahahahahahahahaha!
-
this is possibly one of the dumbest reasons I've seen an actor kicked off the project. wtf? either way, they're still using the same car, doesn't matter who is the voice, because that mustang still sucks. and the show probably will too.
-
Tom Cruise still likes it when he rides his tail.

Yeah I juust saw that yesterday when I was watching Inside The NFL I was like WTF I had no idea it was going off the air. Chris Carter is the only one though that is going to need to find work.
But I think my favorite crew watching it was when you had Len Dawson, Nick Buoniconti(sp?) Jerry Glanville, Chris Collinsworth and Dan Marino, Jerry Glanville -

So, everything will be cool.(I can't believe they brought this show back. I give it...half a season.)

Haven't read prior posts because I need to run
by grammaton cleric binks
but two things: 1) Kilmer is slumming and 2)KITT without William Daniels blows. Unless I'm very mistaken he is still quite alive.
-
KITT with the voice of a nervous teenage boy is a show I might watch.
-
i can't see it, if they do decide to make a new series from this.
-
He should use his 'gay german guy' from The Saint to voice Kitt.
'allo Mikeee. Vere voodjew lyke tew go tewdeh? zee cinemah or zee club? Joo arr zo hansohm, Mikeee." -
great dude!
-
How many variations can they come up with?
-
He's got a nice "electronic" voice.
-
Hilarious. And sad. This is what artists get for jumping in bed with ad people.
-
People can hate on Kilmer all they want, but since Kiss Kiss Bang Bang he's got nothing but my respect. I still won't watch this though, but good luck to 'em, it might last as long as Drive.
-
He's getting a crapload of money for a couple hours worth of work. Some gigs are just too good to refuse. Hell, even Murray came back for Garfield: A Tale of 2 Kitties.
-
Make no mistake, it's not revenge KITT's after. It's a reckonin'.
-
It could have been Jack Black.
-
because hearing a car with Gob's voice say "hello Michael" is about as close to a new episode of Arrested Development I was going to get.
-
Chris Knight... Rider. That IS amusing. Still his best role to this very day.
-
It's not more than you need, just more than you're used to. I wondered why recent TV spots didn't sound correct.
-
...it isn't that Arnett scrambled to FIND a way out of it as soon as he saw those NBC promos
-
Dude, no one would ever want to get in to the car if Tony did the voice. They'd be scared shitless that they would get ass-jacked in the fucking jaw. Or lose their god damn soul.

I think that Val Kilmer could add a really interesting angle here. Will Arnett was probably a yukster-William Daniels-Type voice. But Nick Rivers could be AWESOME in a totally psychedelic way. Come on. Give me some KITT!
-
I really wanted Daniels to voice KITT again, especially if the artificial intelligence (the person, so to speak) in the new KITT is the same intelligence that was in the old KITT (which I hope is the case). I hope that Kilmer does a decent job. I want to see KITT's return go well, or at the very least not completely suck.
-
From the teaser(s) it seemed as Arnett was channeling KARR, you know, trying to sound cool. I personally feel the voice should not be cool or menacing but, like Daniels, annoying. Not overly, just enough to bug this piss out of the lead. Hopefully Kilmer can pull it off.
-
If it's going to suck, make it worth my while. Due to budget cuts the KITT computer is put in a Mini Cooper and Weird Al will be the voice.
-
There nothing better out there at all? Iceman, Doc.... KITT? Just show what a really, really bad batman movie will do to your career...
-
Weird Al and a Mini-Cooper sounds kinda interesting. Maybe that should be the Nerd Herd car for season 2 of Chuck. As long as 'White & Nerdy' is played at some point, I'm all in...
-
now KITT is going to sound like a fat has-been.
