A Teasing Glimpse Of Dr. Parnassus' IMAGINARIUM Is Now Online!!

Published at:  Feb 06, 2008 9:58:02 PM CST

Merrick here...

Following-up their report on the status of Terry Gilliam's THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS, Quick Stop Entertainment has posted an picture featuring 1/2 of the titular "Imaginarium" itself (huh huh...he said "TITular!")

Why 1/2? It's 50% of an image whose entirety will be revealed on the film's official site this weekend. The site went online for a while earlier this week, then collapsed under the weight of folks trying to access it. The Powers That Be are currently migrating the site to a bigger server & it should be up and running again in a day or two.

SEE 1/2 OF THE IMAGINARIUM HERE!!!

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that the other half looks kinda like this one...

for those who haven't seen the story. I don't think it was suicide but man he was careless with just how much he was taking... poor guy.

Don't want to start a talkback furor, but they did actually say that it wasn't how much he took but just the combination of drugs he took at the same time. None of them were taken above dosage. Crappy event. Drugs are scary.

Hydrocodone and Oxycodone are very similar drugs, except Oxy is a lot stronger. The other two were forms of anti-anxiety drugs. I don't see how "none of them were taken above the dosage" means anything?

I've never taken an aspirin, so I'm not an expert on how things should be said. I got that from this: http://tinyurl.com/ yph79g and the main difference I saw there was that they're emphasizing that drug interactions were fatal, not a "massive overdose". Six of one, half dozen of the other, we're short one really talented guy. And in a rare on-topic comment, the imaginarium stage looks a lot different than I expected but I like it.

    Well, i agree, freydis...

    by jackislost

Drugs are bad. Maybe no one drug was taken over the dosage but the combination is still "massive" (considering it resulted in death).... I wasn't trying to be sensational. Just saying... stay away from the pills! A lot of people think that if its pills instead of something you smoke or inject, it's not as bad and they are WRONG. Pill rhymes with kill for a reason. Of course, we live in a nation where so many doctors (esp general practitioners) are nothing more than glorified drug dealers... Sad really.

I hope they do the role some justice. If Heath Ledger didnt have the time to proparly evolve the character and it is obvious to the audience then it could just be a tarnish on his career. Also any marketing based around his death by the studios would be pig fucking disgusting

    I saw this LIVE!!!

    by the equalizer

I work next to Borough Market, near London Bridge. Back in December, I was strolling through the market and spotted this massive wagon with very ornate and gothic styling on it. In big letters it read 'The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus'. Now at this time, I had no idea that there was a film being made with such a name, so I just kept walking. Now i realise that Christopher Plummer, Heath Ledger and the lovely Lily Cole could have been anywhere nearby!
To the right of the picture you can see the stairs that lead up to London Bridge. Directly behind the wagon / stage is Southwark Cathedral.
On the day, there were loads of plastic seats arranged in front of the stage. I thought that it was some kind of Christmassy show about to go on, such a shame that I didn't know otherwise...

In a strange turn of events Gilliams latest will have to be finished for once because the expectation from everyone about seeing Heaths last movie is too much for it not to happen!Didn't know nowt about this though and that Half Photo just looked like a human sized version of them victorian paper stages they had to play with as kids, kind of like a throw back to the animations he did for Python which is interesting. Always keen to see his movies although some misfire at least he has the balls to do totally unique stuff in an area where Sequels and remakes seem to be the order of the day.

I agree with your take of "Lost in La Mancha." Man that movie looked terrible. There is something wrong with a person when they think that the best way to adapt a centuries-old, beloved and amazing novel is to throw in a time-traveling Johnny Depp.

needs to work hard and take extra care that Heath Ledger's last performance is preserved and enhanced by the actors they cast to finish his role. He deserves no less. I'm sure Mr. Gilliam will make it happen.

also the HD-DVD is dead post is asinine

    by arcadiands

short version: The HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360 is now being sold with a $50.00 rebate. This is more to do with the fact that 360 owners have just about ignored the drive because they dont need it - you can download movies from Xbox Marketplace. Also, at its previous price, this proprietary drive was more expensive than many discount HD-DVD players.
Also, Ford is now selling 2007 models at 30% off. This is surely the end of the Ford Motor Company.

I can only hope for a career in anything as "cursed and failed" as Terry Gilliam's and Tim Burton's (though I tend to enjoy more of Gilliam's work than Burton's).

Both are held in high esteem by their peers and both continue to do what they love. That doesn't sound "cursed" or "failed" to me.

    by kloipy

It's Terry Fucking Gilliam. The man is a genius. Brazil, The Fisher King, Fear and Loathing, time Bandits, Baron Muchausen, 12 Monkey's, and on and on. He did 1 bad movie. Fucking 1! The guy is an amazing director who does his own thing and still gets shit on. He is an artistic genius. Just pisses me off that people still give the guy shit over one bad movie

    one bad movie

    by aikimoe

I didn't think The Bros. Grimm was "bad," but I didn't think it was very good (due mostly to its script rather than direction). However, I have heard very bad things about "Tideland" from people I respect and who love Gilliam. I'm nervous about it, but I'll definitely see it someday.

    by series7

which of Tim Burton's movie go unseen? Was it the $180,011,740 gross of Planet of the Apes? Or perhaps the weak $66,257,002 intake of Big Fish. Maybe is was the small $206,459,076 turnout for Charlie in the Chocolate Factory that has turned Tim Burton into a sad little weird man making movies no one sees. After sitting through failed attempts at box office gold, anchorite its easy to see where Burtons just withered away to obscurity. You know I used to just think Burton sold out, but after seeing Todd, I am hoping that he did those weird movies that no one saw in order to get enough money to do whatever he wants now and get back to doing great films. The more I think about Todd the more I like it. I think Gilliam just needs to sell out a bit to hollywood, so he'll get more faith from the Studios. Say what you what about Burton's recent remake crap after seeing Todd I have faith that he's back to making good movies again. But lets face it, Burton and Gilliam are not going to make the movies they want to make independently (ala Lynch) they are going to need some deep pockets. Even if they don't get the big amounts to make the movies they want (Charlie = 150 million, Todd = 50 million) its still more the they can get on their own. Though Gilliam's made more flops (financially speaking).

    TIDELAND...

    by braddavery

For the guy who has not seen Tideland but has heard only bad things...if you consider yourself a "true" Terry Gilliam fan, you will probably LOVE this film. This is a small review I wrote for Tideland - TIDELAND *** (2006, 122 Mins., Terry Gilliam) Once you get "into" this film, you start to realize how good it really is. The performance by Jodelle Ferland (Jeliza-Rose) is absolutely breathtaking. With anyone but her in the lead, this film would have been a mess. "He looks like a burrito" is a classic line from one of many memorable moments in this movie. You have to be open-minded to enjoy this film, it's definitely not for everyone as it is pure "Gilliam".
