Casey Affleck goes noir with THE KIND ONE!

Published at:  Feb 06, 2008 1:35:46 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Casey Affleck is apparently going to follow-up his great year with a nifty sounding noir called THE KIND ONE, to be based on the newly released novel by Tom Epperson. Epperson co-wrote the scripts for ONE FALSE MOVE and THE GIFT.

The film will be set in the 1930s LA and follow Affleck as an amnesiac who works for a horrible, horrible violent mobster (nicknamed "The Kind One") while falling in love with this man's lady.

Sounds good to me. What about you?

Well, I'm glad Casey Affleck's in it.

    by knuckleduster

But what are the chances of this being any good? The last good period 'noir' we had was L.A. Confidential.

His performance as Robert Ford was one for the ages, and if he doesn't win the Oscar, it will just confirm what we all already know: the Oscars fucking suck.

And what the hell kind of name is the Kind One for a mobster? This flick sounds queer.

Amnesia is a classic device used in many Films Noir, and just because he is a mobster doesn't mean he can't be kind. The Kind One sounds like Noir title. There are lots of "The" somethings or other from the genre. The plot synopsis above also sounds like a classic noir plot. Derivative but it doesn't really matter given the genre.

    Doesn't sound good...

    by tourist

...But I mean, how many descriptions of noir films sound like anything but stock standard noir flicks? The dude had a hand in One False Move, which didn't sound like much at all, yet the finished work was great. I don't know about Affleck either. He's just been that dude who got into films cause his brother was famous in just about every movie he's been in. But then he was good in Lonesome Jim, and out of nowhere was AMAZING in Jesse James.

    The Oscar...

    by tourist

...Will go to Bardem. The role he was given was more of a leading role, but so was Afflecks. It's like an impossible choice anyway. They were both amazing. NCFOM made a bigger impact though, Bardems character was more jump out unique and he's been up for awards so many times before. Plus, as evidenced by the way they handled NCFOM and TWWB, Miramax/Paramount Vantage gave a shit about their films. Unlike Warner Brothers who treat Jesse James like a red headed step child. Dicks.

Seems the Afflecks can do no wrong right now

    by han cholo

With Casey coming into his own as a seriously talented actor and Ben opening people's eyes to his directorial skills, I think they've found a niche for themselves.

    He punted Baxter.

BUT I really don't get why Afflecks part in TAOJJBTCRF is not considered a leading role?
