A WANTED spot from The Super Bowl!!!

Published at:  Feb 02, 2008 4:54:17 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm a huge fan of Timur Bekmambetov - the director of the Russian spectaculars... NIGHTWATCH & DAYWATCH - and WANTED is going to be his first English Language film, as well as his first Studio film and I have to say -I'm really excited about it. The look of the film is gorgeous - and I think the end results will be truly amazing. At least I'm hoping.

    by campkoala

So they took all the good bits (Superheroes, bizarre looking people, supervillains running the world, whole fucking point of the story) and left in the bit about a kid discovering that his dad was a really good killer. Why the fuck did they bother to use the name of the comic. Just call it "ZOMG! My dad was a baddie LOL!" and let somneone make a proper version of Wanted

i thought this looked good until my local comic book guy told me to buy the graphic novel. WANTED the book is so unbelievably fucking good, that seeing the trailers for this movie make me a little sad. i'm still going to see it, and hey, i might enjoy it, but it still sucks that this is going to be our WANTED adaptation. it would have been better if these guys just ripped off certain ideas from the book and just made a totally different movie.

A faithful adaptation of Wanted would be unwatchable. I too miss the fact that the superheroes being defeated by all the villians is gone. That is the one aspect of the story I felt was worthwhile. Otherwise we have villains teaching a completely unlikable guy to rape and mass murder. I'm going to give this a chance because I love Nightwatch and Daywatch, but I can't say I miss the completely amoral aspects of the graphic novel.

I know what you mean. If they were to do Wanted straight from the source material, it would be the unfilmable equivalent of The Naked Lunch. That said, I'd love to see a movie where main characters are completely amoral, and it would be different. I hate the way when they're dealing with main characters being bad guys, they give them a conscience or make them funny. They're so afraid to break the mold.I think if it was treated in the right light, Wanted could've been a great movie for the fans. But now they're just going for the demographic...

    by burgerking

Bullet-time gags got old years back. But my main concern being the CGI stunts like the car picking up the guy standing there and the Matrix-wannabe feel to it. I thought maybe I'm just being a cynic but then I saw the part with the bullet that said "goodbye" or something on it and that sealed the deal right there -- this movie is a gimmick with goofy silly "cool" things that would have gotten my excited when I was a junior in high school.

Just finished Day Watch on DVD, and I'm wondering

    by creasybear

how much Hollywood reined in Bekmu- uh, this Russian director guy. Day Watch had some truly grand, creative visuals, but also a lot that came straight from the Matrix (like the trailer for this movie shows). The story to Day Watch was also laughably convoluted, one of those movies where the director seems to be cramming every idea he's ever had into one movie, even if it means bloating it to 2 and a half hours when the story itself has no reason to be that long. The Russian director reminded me of Lucas: some really interesting visual ideas, but someone else really needs to control story structure. Still, since it was my first Russian movie, I don't know how much of what I found bizarre was cultural, and how much was just plain weird storytelling.

Are they aware of how fast a bullet travels. They really think that in the millisecond it would take to travel to that slab of meat they could curve it out and then in again after to go round it..Seriously is anyone else here REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY starting to hate Hollywood..I love the Matrix because it pioneered a great genre of special effects that completely Fitted to the story (a great story at that) because they existed in an artificially created reality. But how many movies do we have to have slow mo slides, jumps, bullets and ridiculous stunts the normal human body could never attempt or survive. It ruins the movie EVERY SINGLE time.

There were a TON of cool elements in Daywatch/Nightwatch but sadly they didn't amount to anything. I was somehow able to follow Nightwatch and was looking forward to Daywatch. But then Daywatch came and once again, the sum of its parts was greater than the whole.

Anyone ever see Ryuhei Kitamaru's "Versus"? I have a soft spot in my heart for that one...strange too because it made even less sense than Daywatch.

wasn't it first used in the Blade movie before the Matrix? (Cites the scene in which deacon frost shoot at Blade before throwing the Asian girl into oncoming traffic.)
Tell me if i'm wrong, but why are the Wachowski's getting all the credit for this SFX terminology?

was okay at best. I wont shed a tear if they don't follow the original story closely.

... than watching a bunch of clueless, antisocial, pseudo-intellectual virgins on a message board spout off about how they *wouldn't* bang hot REAL women like Angelina Jolie, just because they wouldn't be able to lift anything above 50 lbs onto their limp dicks. Wow.
