Published at:  Jan 31, 2008 2:31:55 AM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

The SciFi Channel has ordered 13 installments of “Sanctuary,” about a pair of scientists tracking strange creatures roaming the planet.

The project, which began life as a Web series, was created by “SG-1” writer-producer Damian Kindler and stars “SG-1” vet Amanda Tapping. Like the Web version, the SciFi version will utilize loads of “virtual sets.”

Incredibly craptastic. Oh wait, it's on the Sci-fi channel. I don't know why I would expect anything different from those fuckers.

For the love of God, someone fire Bonnie Hammer.

    yeah I remember the webisodes

    by maniaq

    they were kinda lame...

Amanda Tapping needs to get herself a better agent - she keeps ending up on rubbish projects...

    Sanctuary is a snoozefest.

    by the outlander

Hey Sci-Fi why don't you pick up Journeyman or even Blade the series? And stop making crap shows like Flash Gordon and Painkiller Jane (and Sanctuary).

Sancuary was, what, eight webisodes long?

    by sledge hammer

...And it went absolutely nowhere. Color me uninterested.

    "Virtual sets" = blue screens

    by prof. pop-cult

I mean, let's refer to the special effects technique by its original name.

But there's something I've always wondered: Wouldn't it be easy to simply ban the use of the word "first" (or variations of it) from the first message post (if you try to use the word first, the post won't go through)?

    by aloy

Stargate and Atlantis have always been fun to watch. Sanctuary was mildly interesting but the individual webisodes (and the series) were to short to get into. I'll check this out even if Amanda Tapping's Brit accent take's some getting used to.

my god this show was shit

    by obscura

seriously... don't do virtual sets if they look as realistic as an episode of south park. same goes for amanda tappings 'english' accent, its worse than dick van dyke. that AND its boring as hell.

They should just have gone with Dresdin files which did the same thing really. Too bad it got canceled.

NBC recently promoted her. Now she gets to provide her special touch on 2 nbc-universal networks. not just skiffy.

    It's gonna suck...and here's why

    by bill brasky

OK, Sci-Fi Channel reminds me of a GURPS roleplaying game, or even a point based fantasy football league. They got 100 points from (I don't know, NBC or whatever) and they used 98 of those points on Battlestar Galactica. They have used the other two points (.025 point for Flash Gordon) for all of their other shows. It is just sad.

    I love Amanda Tapping . . .

    by skidmarkedundies

But this was horrible. I had fun though playing "Spot the Stargate Alum" during the series. Good times.

SciFrak Execs: "We were blown away by...

    by chromedome

...the quality they were able to achieve on a web budget"SciFrakkers criteria is Always and Only "how LOW can the budget be?"I hope this is good, but with SciFi endorsing the low budgetness of the show, it is hard to get excited.

I mean, we KNOW SciFi is a good judge of...

    by chromedome

..."low budget", and we know further that they are a poor judge of quality, so we know which way this scale is gonna tip, right?

better this than more from Flash Gordon's people

    by jccalhoun

I suppose that this will mean that Tapping with be off Atlantis, not that she was really on it at all or anything. Her character went from the know-it-all to the one that stands around helpless asking questions or simply not appearing at all. I'm not a Stargate fanboy or anything but it just makes me wonder why they even bothered paying her contract to be on it in the first place (and she's almost certainly paid more per episode than any of the other actors on the show since her character has been around for a decade).

    I agree, total snoozefest

    by turketron

As short as the webisodes were, they couldn't hold my attention long enough to finish the series. I fell asleep on some of them, and then gave the frak up.
    This show is a waste.

    by thesecondquest

As I understand it, they already had Amanda under option for an extra year (as part of what would have been SG-1 Season 11), so when SG-1 was cancelled, they were able to transfer that option to Atlantis.

    by snowpuff

Bonnie Hammer: So, what new shows should we greenlight?

    Fans: Journeyman.

    BH: Anyone?

    Fans: Journeyman.

BH: How about some crap retelling about the Wizard... oh, we did that.
    Fans: Journeyman.

    BH: Hmm. Another Ghosthunters show?

    Fans: Journeyman.

BH: Why don't we revive some old franchise no one cares about like Flash... oh, darn, we did that.

    Fans: Journeyman, please.

BH: Sigh, I guess we'll do a gameshow with aliens.

    Fans: Make it stop.

    BH: Meeting adjourned.

I think what was really depressing was that the show managed to find it feet and learn from its mistakes fairly quickly ... and just as it was starting to make something of itself, Sci Fi killed it. It didn't ruin the books because they were so markedly different. Still decent though compared to anything Sci Fi has put out since...
