Oscar-Winning CRASH Becomes Starz Series!!

Published at:  Jan 29, 2008 1:34:48 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

“Crash,” which won the best-picture Oscar two years ago, will become a 13-episode Lionsgate TV series on the Starz pay-cable channel.

From Tuesday’s Daily Variety:

None of the major characters from the movie, including the ones played by Matt Dillon, Brendan Fraser and Sandra Bullock, are likely to make it to the series, [Lionsgate exec Kevin] Beggs said.

“We’ll use the style of storytelling from the movie,” he said, “but there’ll be new characters and new stories to get into the subjects of race and class, and the bigotry that’s simmering under the skin of a city like Los Angeles.”

Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco, who wrote and produced the movie, will produce the series as well.

This is far from the first TV project for Haggis and Moresco. Before Haggis broke into the movie business a few years ago, he wrote for “The Love Boat,” “Diff’rent Strokes,” “The Facts of Life,” and “Who’s The Boss” before creating “Walker: Texas Ranger” and “Due South.”

More recently, Haggis and Moresco co-created the supershitty and short-lived NBC crime drama “The Black Donnellys.”

Crash was the emperor's new clothes for the modern moviegoer. everyone wanted to believe it was something great, when really, it was just the same nonsense as ever before. rich white Scientologists from LA trying to make a movie about racism. jesus fucking christ.Kenneth Turan had it right:"I don't care how much trouble "Crash" had getting financing or getting people on board, the reality of this film, the reason it won the best picture Oscar, is that it is, at its core, a standard Hollywood movie, as manipulative and unrealistic as the day is long. And something more.

For "Crash's" biggest asset is its ability to give people a carload of those standard Hollywood satisfactions but make them think they are seeing something groundbreaking and daring. It is, in some ways, a feel-good film about racism, a film you could see and feel like a better person, a film that could make you believe that you had done your moral duty and examined your soul when in fact you were just getting your buttons pushed and your preconceptions reconfirmed."

    by nalapou

because it was better then all the other films nominated... there was nothing sinister behind it. And Paul Haggis is a Scientologist from London, Ontario, Canada; not LA. Know your Canadians.

    by idrinkyourmilkshake

Pual Haggis is a hack!!! stop creating shows and movies thst he's had his hand in!!!
If he so much as looked at a project-Id never give it a chance, let alone one BASED on a HORRIBLE movie he wrote
I mean, poor guy- he's taking any deal he can get! We know this show will suck (TRAFFIC televisioons series anyone?),
and will be cancellled before all 13 episodes air-then will be sold in BEST BUY and TARGET exclusively-with the title being Pual Haggis's CRASH.
Then, I will vomit, and once again-curse hollywood!
