One on One with Jason Statham!
Jason Statham talked today with IESB about The Bank Job, Crank 2, Transporter 3 and, believe it or not, Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

Because I just love the fact that so many people get frighteningly wound up by casting of comic book characters - I cannot think of a single exeption to the rule. I have no real nowledge of Namor but from the artwork I've seen of him I don't think there's any reason why Statham couldn't play him.

I have no real knowledge about Namor - wings on his ankles looks like Spock, flat head? But I do know that everytime a superhero casting is mentioned on here a Unicorn dies! I wouldn't hit anyone over Namor - though God help the world if they miscast Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew!

....that Statham has one character, and one only: Cockney spiv gangster in Guy Ritchie films. Anything else he tries to do is a disaster with a terrible accent. Also, Namor looks ridiculous on paper, so imagine, if you will: a shaven headed cockney spiv gangster, wearing the spangley green underwear and winged heels of Namor. Tremble before his power!

. . . I looked up Statham's info on IMDB. First, it doesn't seem possible that Snatch is going on 8 years old. Yikes! Second, I wasn't exaggerating, Statham has done nothing but shit since, although I haven't seen him in that last Ritchie flick, but I think I'm guessing he plays the same character w/ a different name. Third, there is a fucking Crank 2 and an Italian Job sequel, titled the Brazilian Job, on the way. These on top of that Death Race remake. For fuck's sake, why am I letting this shit bother me so much???

However, you need someone with grand acting chops for Namor, or at least someone with grand screen presence. I think, under the guidance of a strong director, Statham could pull this one off.

I always thought Jude Law would be a good Namor, and with Oscar nominees like Norton and Downey, Jr., singing on for the new Marvel movies, I don't see why they couldn't snag him for that.

I imagine a deep and commanding voice. Looks wise Namor has always had dark hair and squinty eyes. I'm not being racist, that's the way he's drawn. Samurai Sark had some good suggestions. I'd put Marc Dacascos or Daniel Dae Kim at the top.

I think he just takes what is offered to him. He's probably grateful he gets paid to work in the movies and only realizes that most of them are not very good. Crank and Transporter are both fun. but Dungeon Siege, WAR, The One? C'mon Jason!

Namor is not an Aquaman knockoff. It's the other way around. Namor first appeared in comics almost two years prior to Aquaman. He also predates Spock by almost thirty years. Get it right, you knobs.

I think it was the original OHOTMU that described Namor's ankle wings as resembling the fins of a fish more than a bird's appendages. Since then, I've wondered why no one ever seems to actually DRAW them that way. Here's hoping they're portrayed in that manner in the alleged movie.

Why the fuck not. I like the idea. Sue Storm is Filipino, Nick Fury's about to be a black guy. These are roles I think one can alter races for. Captain America needs to be gringo. As does Thor. But if there was an asian Namor, Idon't think comic fans would cry (no more than usual anyway ;p)

When you have Namor getting his own moviw, you just know it is. I mean really, Marvel has kinda blown their load, Granted then have a few more charcters to build a trilogy around (Captin America, Thor, Silver Surfer, Wolverine) but after that, there isn't too much.
DC has ALOT of potential, but it's potential that will sadly will never be reached because they have no fucking clue what to do when it comes to a comic book movie (aside from Batman THANK GOD!!!) -
he's got the attitude, the arrogance, he looks like the character and he has that thin yet muscular-type of physique too. Cassell for Namor!
