United Artists to Remake Nacho Vigalondo's TIMECRIMES!!! Now with Trailer!

Hey folks, Harry here... I've spent my day at the Fangoria Convention here in Austin, Texas. There really isn't a ton of news debuting here, but what we do have is some cool ass guests that are partying the weekend away - and I love it. I spent a good deal of time today with Kane Hodder and Tom Savini chatting about all sorts of fun stuff - from TEETH to the badass CURSE OF THE DEMON mask I bought from Matt Geuther!!! Sorry Tom - Didn't know you wanted it. Anyway - I get home and I have a couple emails pointing me to Variety - where they're reporting that Nacho Vigalondo - Spain's latest cinematic genius - has optioned the remake rights of his first feature, TIMECRIMES - which premiered at Fantastic Fest last year, where it was optioned by Magnolia Pictures for U.S. Distribution. Who picked up the remake rights? None other than Tom Cruise's UNITED ARTISTS - and apparently Steve Zaillian attached to produce. Now TIMECRIMES was universally picked as the discovery of the year by all three Austin contributors to the AIN'T IT COOL AWARDS - (Quint, Massawyrm and Myself) but Quint and I decided to name other films so as not to be repetitive. I'm fascinated to see how TIMECRIMES plays at Sundance, but given this quick acquisition by UNITED ARTISTS - I'm betting it did damn fine. Now - who on Earth will United Artists cast... I could see Tom Cruise in the role - but my real hope is that they go with Nacho to direct it - His direction was so sharp and on-target that to go with some other talent would be a real waste of opportunity. I'm sure Nacho has a lot of ideas for how to bring it to American screens... and besides - these Spanish directors... they seem to have a knack for kicking U.S. Audiences' collective asses!
