Horror Junkie? In Austin This Weekend? Fangoria's WEEKEND OF HORROR with me & a ton of others!
Hey folks, Harry here... This weekend - right here in Austin at the Renaissance Hotel (9721 Arboretum Blvd - Near the Marble Cows!!!) will be Fangoria's first convention in Austin, Texas. That is right, the magazine with lasagna covers and marinara insides is throwing a show here in Ain't It Cool's backyard - and we're going to be there to soak up the blood & guts and fun of it all.
It's Friday, Saturday and Sunday - and if you're in driving distance... "get your motor running... head out on the highway.... looking for adventure.... whatever comes our way!" Right? Right.
Now, you know I'll be there... but is there anyone worthwhile?
Shit ya! You've got Tom Savini, Robert Rodriguez, Angela Bettis, Kane Hodder, Swamp Thing, Brinke Stevens, Debbie Rochon, Will Sanderson, Gary Kent - some kid named Jared Padalecki - and about 30 others!!! How cool is that? Then there's all the merchandize and commercial exploitation of blood and guts! And then there's all you horror masters that read Ain't It Cool News... Sure - Fangoria didn't invite you - BUT I AM! I've got some talking time on Sunday and I'll have you join me on stage so we can have fun with an audience. But damn... you'd have to be pretty fucking cool to come in for that. You that cool? You know who you are!
See ya'll this weekend!

Because I would love to buy him one. I salute you, sir!
-
...is Rodriguez gonna make MEG? I've heard he is!!!
-
Not the best title considering Renfro's death.

What Time Friday does it run... Dawn to Dusk? Or is it Dusk to Dawn? Or what? Is Massawyrm attending? Quint will miss it because he's at Sun Dance. The last time I stepped into the lobby of this hotel it was to see Sulu, Nurse Chappel, and a group of X Files extras, and that was several years back soooo this will be a welcome break of day to day Austin weirdness
-
Are you better now? Hope you are. xx

"Some kid named Jared Padalecki"? Harry, watch "Supernatural" so
by filmcritic3000
It's a terrific horror series. Pick up the first two seasons on DVD, then watch season three online, and play catch up; it's well worth your time

I met him at a convention in Dallas. I think his little feelings were hurt because no one was lining up to pay $20 for Tom Savini's autograph. Right next to him he had to look at the line three blocks out the door to get Romero's autograph. I took a picture of Savini and he looked pissed. Then I took a picture of that cocksucker who played the Creeper in Jeepers Creepers. He was NOT happy. I was supposed to pay him if I wanted to take a picture. Oh well, I pissed off the Creeper. He can lick my slimy mudhole.
-
Are you talking about last year's Texas Frightmare Weekend? I was there and had the same experience with Savini. I really respect the guy's work, so it bummed me out a little that he was kind of a prick when I met him. Oh well. Bad day, fuck it.

by jugdish
Christa Campbell was so freaking hot!! Unbeleivable- but what the hell was she doing in the basement next these goons selling ebay items!!! Strangest thing was no body gave a shit who she was!
-
Yeah, I was at the TX Frightmare weekend. I don't understand why all those people were charging so damn much for their signature. Like the big-titted chick from Hostel or Hostel II or whatever, charging the same price as George fucking Romero? Christ on a Goddamned cross. I was going to get Danielle Harris' autograph...not because I like Halloween, but because she was on an episode of Boy Meets World. Then I saw she wanted $20 for her autograph. Fuck that.

some of the Masters of Horror bits were pretty good. (some)
AND i really enjoyed Behind the Mask, Fido, Severance, some Murder Party and Hatchet...not a bad year. -

Title for the con.
-
The first three Fangoria Weekend of Horrors attendees who mention Ain't It Cool at the Baby Tattoo table will be given a free prize.
-
It has me convinced that Angela Bettis is the worst actress evar. May wasn't that great either but it wasn't as repulsive as the horrible Sick Girl. Master of Horror, Lucky McGee is NOT. That being said, everyone else that you listed pwns.
-
It's just like his recent straight-to-video movies!
-
Watch the Zombiegeddon DVD interviews for a hilarious story about Savini, shittiness, and conventions. Classic.
-
Sis and I might make the drive down to Austin. She's never been to a Fango con. You know how she is about geeks, gore and costumes.
-
Zip movies (just junk you can only buy from eBay garage sales). But there's also a couple of cool guests, including Angela Bettis (her MAY performance is Oscar-worthy; Roger Ebert practically worships her. She was total kick-ass in the SICK GIRL episode of MASTERS OF HORROR; Bettis showed some comic panache as the lesbian lover of Misty Mundae/Erin Brown (and Misty, on a break from her lesbian softcore schtick, turned out to be an AMAZING actress!). As for Tom Savini; he loves the young ladies, a big flirt. Sometimes he's cool, sometimes he's pissed (don't know why...he had a big, plum role in FROM DUSK TIL DAWN and now he's slumming it at conventions).

I, Austin TV Horror Host Professor Griffin, will of course be a featured part of the festivities. (Hehehehe).
Come on out and join me at the Weekend of Horrors for the following specific events!
Friday January 18th
4:00 pm
Horror Trivia Challenge - Austin knows Professor Griffin loves horror trivia, so come out and test your knowledge against me, and other horror fans! You’ll win some cool prizes and gain the admiration of your peers, friends, and family!
4:30 pm
Donnie Dunagan - “He was a great big man…with a hairy coat on…” and he carried little Donnie Dunagan over a boiling sulphar pit! Come join me as I introduce and hold a Q&A for Donnie Dunagan, the actor who (as a child) was menaced by Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein Monster in 1939’s Son of Frankenstein, and done in by Karloff as Mord the Executioner in 1939’s Tower of London! Dunagan is also best known as the voice of young Bambi in the Disney classic. Mr. Dunagan has an amazing memory, so come out and get a glimpse of classic Horror-Wood from a man who was in the thick of it!
Saturday January 19th
1:00 pm
Gary Kent - It’s my great pleasure to introduce and moderate a Q&A for actor stuntman, Gary Kent. Gary Kent is an actor, stuntman, producer, writer and director. Since 1959, Mr. Kent has carved out a career in Hollywood and has been greatly involved in genre and cult films. He has appeared in such films as The Thrill Killers (1964) Targets (1968) Satan’s Sadists (1969) and the infamous Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971). In 1974 he was unit manager on Brian De Palma’s Phantom of the Paradise and worked in Special Effects on films like The Born Losers and Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women. Finally, (and of special interest to me) in 1970 Gary Kent served as production manager for The Hard Road and Sandra, The Making of a Woman both featuring my crazy crush-obsession, Monica Gayle. Maybe I’ll finally get some questions answered or at the very least get some details from him at the bar!
6:00 pm
Friday the 13th Part VII Reunion Panel I’m very thrilled to be moderating this panel, as Friday the 13th, Part 7 –The New Blood (1988) is one of my favorites in the later adventures of the Sultan of Slaughter, Jason Voorhees. Celebrate the 20th Anniversary Reunion with Professor Griffin and director/FX creator John (TROLL) Buechler; lead actress Lar Park-Lincoln (Tina Shepard); co-star Kevin Spirtas (Nick); Diana Barrows (Maddy); Jason himself, Kane Hodder; and actor William Butler (Michael), who has since segued into directing horror features like MADHOUSE and FURNACE.
We’ll hear some great stories to be sure…and get the scoop on some of the cut gore FX!
Sunday January 20th
5:30 pm
Horror Trivia Challenge No. 2 - Second Horror Trivia Challenge will pit horror fan against horror fan to see who KNOWS THEIR STUFF when it comes to Fright Films. Test your knowledge against Professor Griffin, and other horror fans! You’ll win some awesome prizes and serious boasting rights.
All this Horror fun starts THIS FRIDAY January 18th at 2:00 pm!
The Place:

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
Rest in Peace,
Prof. Griffin

anybody wanna buy it?

And I speak from experience with both, um, "congregations" of pop-culture roadkill. I've often found that my urge to rub elbows with the gore-nerdnoscenti is usually quelled by spending the $35 I would have spent on admission on a pair of new horror DVDs. Because let's face it, aside from a few mangled McFarlane action figures, the dealer's room at a horrorcon is full of nothing but full MSRP-ed Best Buy stock. Why pay the premium? Wanna start a riot at the "Fango" con? Scream "Linnea Quigley was a man!!" and watch the sparks fly.
-
Con's a little thin so far.
