Brad Renfro gone
Harry here... Nobody has written up an Obit on Brad Renfro because frankly... it's not a story any of us wants to write. Here was a kid actor that showed an awful lot of promise. I remember watching APT PUPIL the first time in my living room with Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood and Laura Harris as the two boys went through jealousy pains because they each desperately wanted that role - and they loved what Brad did with it. I remember watching THE CLIENT and loving his character in the first half of the film, before the writing made his character dumb for the sake of the movie and it pissed me off. But I liked Brad throughout. That said... it's been a long time since APT PUPIL - and since then, his career took a nosedive. Who knows what it was. Bad friends, a bad scene or just the orgasmic feeling of Heroin which leads one on a path that few ever recover from. The fact is another young promising star has died. We get one last film from Brad and lets hope he gave one last great performance to make this day all the more tragic.

All I can say,
-
He had his troubles with drugs, that was no secret at all. From what I was reading, he was trying his damndest to stay clean, and I was looking forward to seeing him in some more roles. He was a good young actor, and it sucks to see him go. It's like River Phoenix all over again. RIP Brad Renfro.
-
...has pictures of him with Bijou Phillips, a name synonomous with "messed up Hollywood child actor-cum adult with a drug habit". That pretty much sums it up. Sad, maybe...inevitable, possibly...preventable, perhaps...will happen again, definitely.
-
that you can't even get through a fucking obituary post without being a name-dropper Harry.
-
Sad news.
-
My heart goes out to his family.
-
...who killed his friend driving drunk this past weekend. No mention of that.
-
Troubled Youths who burn themselves out serve as our best caution to anyone who thinks that recreational drug use is 'cool' or 'something i can control' - sorry, kids. Its not.
PS: can we start banning first postsers that just say 'first' - very tacky in an obit update. Classless. -
I thought you met him during Rings But Apt Pupil was way back in 1998, How did u meet him?
-
This news was released yesterday. Glad you guys are on top of things.
-
I don't feel sorry for people who do this to themselves but what a waste of talent.
-
At least tell us how he died.
-
"I remember watching APT PUPIL the first time in my living room blowing Josh Hartnett and taking Elijah Wood up my ass while being filmed by Laura Harris..."
-
Afraid I agree with you there. Kind of like a person who drives drunk, then dies in a car wreck. Oh well, thanks for being an idiot. Renfro was a good actor when he was younger, I'll give him that. But a drug addict? Come on man, it's not like people are seriously thinking, "Apparently heroin can kill you. Who knew?"
-
I think Harry mentioned a long time ago that there was some sort of distanced blood relation between himself and Mr Wood - perhaps not direct, but something along the lines of someone in his family married someone in Mr. Wood's family. Anyway, as far as this being a 'name dropping' (i know you didn't say this. some schmuck before your post did), you're wrong in this case. If my brother was Justin Timberlake and he came over my house and said, "yoyoyo dude. that 'Apartment Pupil' movie was da bombz yo!' then I'd probably mention that in an update just because its rather interesting to know. For the record, I am not Mr. Timberlake's half brother, however I am related (and named after) an academy award nominee (but not a winner sadly). Thats all I'll tell you.
Anyway, this one is kind of a blue-collar edition of the River Pheonix story. While Mr. Renfro's pedigree and body of work wasn't quite on the same level, his decline and abrupt end mirrors it. I think that child actors grow up having the world handed to them on a silver platter and begin to actually believe that they are superior both socially and physicaly, to the rest of humanity. They freely engage in narcotics and alcohol abuse because they deeply believe that their superiority protects them from any addictions or other health effects from those vices. They indulge in levels of excess that would stop a humpback whale's heart because they never for once consider that they are actually quite mortal like the rest of us. The only good that can come from this is as a sad and pointed reminder that drug abuse kills everyone, from Hollywood actors to homeless urchins. -
Harry didn't namedrop; he mentioned a couple of actors and their desire (and respect) in regards to a part Brad got a decade back...big deal. The only thing that matters is that a 25 year old man is dead because his personal demons got the better of him. It's tragic and unfortunate.
-
between saying that two actors wanted a part and saying that they told you that while watching a movie in your living room. One is adding relevant information while one adds relevant information with a touch of personal aggrandizement thrown in.
-
He was also great in Ghostworld and Bully.
-
between someone with a bit of class and Shivv.
-
Sorry, Brad Renfro sucks.
-
Again. ZZZzzz
-
He was good in that and I guess it went downhill from that.
-
Just say RIP and be done with it. This is sad stuff.
-
Too bad both of them are such terrible actors or they might've actually gotten it.
-
We've been friends since he came to Austin to shoot THE FACULTY back in 1997.
-
and very out of place here.
-
...with Uwe Boll and Paul W. Anderson and they were saying Bryan Singer couldn't direct!
-
...ask him what the fuck was he doing in GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS!! Sure, he was a great Hobbit, but as football hooligan in England!?!? Middle Earth is more realistic.
-
Gone where?
-
thanks by the way for that Q & A with Sly - classic AICN. Who have you got lined up next? Please get James Cameron to do a Q & A only about AVATAR and BATTLE ANGEL.
-
Brad renfro broke the law. continously. I couldnt believe in Ireland last year the fawning over the Model and socialite the late katy french. Anybody who is from ireland who vists this site will known about her. She is 24 and DEAD. her boyfriend got an injuction against the irish red tops. His name is the wolf. she was up to her neck in crime.
-
Who have nothing better to do than bitch and complain because Harry "namedropped", do remember the guy is friends with these guys and was reflecting on a time that pertained to this actor. You act like he's busy plugging away. I swear some of you effin babies need to go to recess and quit clogging up these talkbacks with your incessant bullshit.
-
I thought he was good both in Bully and Ghost World. You make it sound like Apt was the apex of his career.
-
Missed your post, but obviously, I agree.
-
...I haven't seen many Renfro films, but I have to see his performance in APT PUPIL is the one of the best I've ever seen by a young actor.
-
Didn't Apt Pupil get held back a year (it was finished in '96) because of something Singer did on the set??? BTW, I didn't see this with any famous people, just myself and an empty theater. Being a fan of Different Seasons I was expecting a good film, what I got was crap. Renfro was the best thing about the film. Sir Ian came off like an old cartoon Nazi queen, and Ross from friends was laughable.
-
Are you describing Harry or yourself, homey? last I checked, you're busy posting talkbacks on HIS site dude.

ArcadianDS Please tell me you were making a weak joke
by theleglampfromachristmasstory
"Apartment Pupil?" WTF? It's "Apt Pupil." Apt isn't an abbreviation. It's just a fucking word that means someone learns quickly. Obviously not a word one would use to describe you.
-
I forgot to mention that. That was the only other redeeming thing about the film other than Renfo's performance. Really good, from the same year his equally good Halloween H2O score was dropped by the Whinesteins. Renfro was good in Ghostworld too, even though he didn't have a very big part.
-
...are you kidding? APT PUPIL was one the best films of 1998. Was Roberto Benigni's performance in LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL more deserving the Oscar than Sir Ian McKellen? NO WAY, McKellen got robbed in my view. HOLLYWOOD HOMOPHOBES.
-

His career took a nosedive after APT PUPIL? what about BULLY?
by blunderbu55
APT PUPIL was pretty terrible anyhow, although that's not to say the guy wasn't good in it. I thought BULLY was a landmark performance for him, though, and he seemed to have a lot of personal investment in the project (he was listed as a producer), which doesn't surprise me. Sad to see him go.
-
Do the math fool. If you don't see it, I needn't bother explaining, haha
-
not oscar award winning, but definitely an interesting take on the whole nazi fugitive story as well as one's own inner demons.

About the guy dying and the continued FIRST posting!?also I don't think Harry was name dropping to make himself look cool, i read it like the company in which he watched the guys movie (who are all doing very well for themselves) held the part and his performance in pretty high regard, Quite a sinscere and respectful compliment to a guy who maybee didn't get the breaks these other actors did.Not seen any of his films just Very sad news when you come to shoot the shit and geek out about movies.
-
Big Lebowski
-
That movie stayed with me for a while after first seeing it and the expressions on Renfro's face haunted me for weeks after.

Why the HELL do people who've had their eyes open for more than five minutes in this world ever try heroin? After all the people who've struggled publicly, failed repeatedly, and died miserably while on this crap--after all the people who've said that from the second it first hit them, they knew they'd spend the rest of their days wanting it--after ALL of that, why?????? Other self destructive behaviors are easy to account for; it usually results from a black hole where one's self esteem ought to be. But seriously, compared to heroin, a bullet is easier, quicker, far cheaper, and less painful, with the same end result (and maybe a more desirable one if making it out the other side means spending a lifetime facing down the demons everyday).
I can't say I'm superior in any way, because I honestly just don't get the reason people ever try this crap. I just know I feel horrible for them. Maybe I ought not to, maybe they're removing themselves from the gene pool for a good reason. But I do feel badly for them anyway. Now if one or two could just come back from the dead and tell all the others whatever the hell it is they need to hear to keep them from pushing the needle in that first time. -
was scarier than Sir Ian in Apt Pupil.

To heroin.... I'd say Rest in Peace but I don't mourn Heroin addicts who OD, and die!
Sad tho he was a talented actor... -
..."The only thing worse than a wanna-be celebrity, is the guy who fellate's him."....or how about the dumbass loser who sits in his momma's basement all day dishing shit to people he, in actuality, strives to be. Go ahead dude, put that big "L" sign above your head, haha, you've earned it guy ;)
-
...were you watching APT PUPIL with Gandalf and Legolas in your front room?
-
Fuck sake!! Zach Braff!!
-
Seriously, guys. So Harry name drops in an obit. What does that matter? It just shows that he personally knows how others were affected by Brad's life and who knew him and he wasn't just some young actor to die from drugs or whatever it was. Personally, if it wasn't for Harry and his "trying to be a celebrity" (which, frankly, is just stupid to say considering he is one of the most respected and knowledgable film minds out there), we wouldn't have this great site. So for all you TALKERS (and if you're being honest with yourself like I am, that's all we are), keep in mind that Harry went out and made his passion his job, and we all get to share in it with him. Show a little respect to him.
-
Guess Brad never got the memo.
-
So, yesterday I was taking a shit next to KURT RUSSELL after having a threesome with Liv Tyler and HEATHER GRAHAM. We discussed the last time we went fishing with AL PACINO and ran into JACK BLACK, who was rafting down the river.
Later that day I went golfing with ALICE COOPER. The last time he and I hung out was at this wild party MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY's house.
I capped off the evening going to dinner with REESE WITHERSPOON and RIHANNA. We had a little too much to drink and ended up back at my place where I found SIENNA MILLER waiting at my doorstep. I'm not one to kiss and tell, but the four of us were UP all night.
I'd type some more, but RANDY QUAID is coming over so we can hit the casinos tonight. Adios! -
...please tell me you're a teenage girl with no taste.
-
Congratulations. You're a full grown man sitting in a Talkback, insulting other people. You must be so proud.
-
Facts are facts, and I find in ironically humorous that people who want to bitch about someone who has one of the biggest film websites in the world (again, facts are facts) would take the time to do so on that site. I would say unless you're gonna be featured on an upcoming episode of cribs it would be best not to run your mouth, haha. Take a hint Jack
-
have a bit of respect morons, a young man has just died and you've used this as an opportunity to throw childish insults at each other.
-
WTF!! You are definitely some dizzy bitch.
-
I agree, and while it might seem as though I'm insulting people, I do not mean to. I'm just aggressively trying to get people to show respect.
-
Sounded like my 3 year old nephew. "I got a wife so Ha Ha Ha!" All good man, keep posting your crap if it floats yer boat. I'm done feeding into this. Eventually you have to put the child in his room and just ignore him until he settles down. Have a good one!
-
...the world was his oyster. You want us to feel sorry for him? I will never have the chances that he had. Another thing, it's not like we're playing loud music at his funeral.
-
...check out his last interview - he was wrecked then!! - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =2i1Mdhuj4uk
-
Granted, however, perhaps it would be best if the talkback associated with his page, typically seen as a place to pay respects, were not riddled with insults and slams.
-
I saw him at the opening of a little place called Preservation Pub in Knoxville TN (his original home town, I think, and mine at the time). He was with his family and opening for another band, but he came out, sat in the middle of everyone with an old cowboy hat hung low on his head and belted out some of the most unintelligible, screaming, awesome dirty slide blues guitar I've heard. He was smiling the whole time and blitzed out of his mind.
Wish he could have gotten his crap straight... -
...watching shit like SCRUBS would turn me to heroin. ZZZzzz
-
Honestly, if you do a "dead pool" I'd be putting her at the top of the list. She can't be much longer for this world.
-
Was tryin to prove a point, but this isn't about childish BS. We're here obviously to comment on Brad Renfro. And on that note, his death was tragic, but kinda eerily seems similar to the life of River Pheonix.
-
I hate American slang - why not just call me a cunt instead of you bubble wrap swear words?
-
Anyone kinda see similarities with the lives of these two?
-
Zach Braff is hardly A-list is he? And SCRUBS is hardly SEINFELD.
-
should do that again on the funeral of the man or woman(would like to see how you "tough" TB`s get your asses kicked)! It is a shame how low some of you TB`s can get!

why don't we honor Chris Benoit? You make a good point.

-
...OWNED.
-
Oh come on. You act like the man was a Saint. He was a mixed up kid for sure, but I'm supposed to feel sorry for a kid on drugs? Nice try.
-
Zach Braff pays tribute to the troops in Iraq, Brad Renfro and Ike Turner.
-
I just thing it is not right to get that low on a dead person. He paid for what he did and people dont need to piss on him.And maybe he did not die on doing drugs,as far as I know nothing is known about the cause of his death.
-
My favorite Renfro role. So understated and memorable.
-
Very true, but come on. There is more than a good chance this was drug related. Remember Jonathon Brandis? Sidekicks. Anyone? Bah. Well he killed himself, and I don't feel sorry fort hat either. I've had friends pass away from drugs, or drunk driving, and it sucks that they are gone and I feel bad for their family, but were they morons? Absolutely.

...and it's kinda debatable as to whether it really WAS a name-drop, given the context, but HARRY! For Christ's sake! Can you at least write an OBITUARY without using words like "orgasmic"? Honestly man, if it's on your mind that much, either get laid, jerk off, or seek counseling before you write your next article. Jesus.
R.I.P., Brad Renfro. Hopefully your family will be spared the experience of reading Harry's unbelievably tasteless obit. -
Man, I normally don't get upset reading this site(unless its strike related) but that was just classless. I dont care how sick I get of hearing about the lives of stupid celebrities, but to wish death on someone is just....I have no words for it.
-
Just like Evildoer. You do hard drugs. You die. They knew they could die during every use. Why should we praise their lives when they didnt give a fuck? Cause their famous? Or cause they are dead? Elijah doesnt touch the booger sugar.. So more power to the Hobbit.
-
It's sad whenever someone succumbs to their own weaknesses, unless it's an overblown surreal spectacle like Amy Winehouse, which seems like some kind of inevitably fatal non-fiction performance art. But you people act like the reason you wake up in the morning is to find a reason to be woefully offended by one of Harry's offhand comments, or to piss on the latest fresh grave, both of which seem like bigger symptoms of douchebaggery than Harry's tendencies to name drop his buddies.
-
WOOOHOOOO!!! No more shit awful movies from the Zachster -- who is, apparently, his own number one fan.
-
whenever someone died for WHATEVER reason, people would show a little respect and tact. Of course that doesn't apply on the internet where faceless fucks can try to see who can outinsult the other, all in a attempt to look "cool". Sorry to say that you just look like assholes, lads.
Renfro was a kid who made a few good movies and got lost in the shuffle of substance abuse. That being said, no one knows at this point what he died of, though obviously given his history, you'd have to lean towards some type of overdose. But whether that's the case or not have any of you retards thought about the fact that maybe his family or friends might be reading these posts? How classy of some of you to mention your opinions of what a loser you consider someone you never met to be. And so Knowles relates a time where he was watching Renfro's movie with a couple of other actors who were up for the part. So what? I think by this point most of the people on this site know that Harry Knowles is familiar with many of the people making movies today. The dude works and interacts with these people on a daily basis. When I was reading this obit, I wasn't sitting there waiting to pounce because he "name-dropped" Elijah Wood. I was thinking what a shame it was that another young person who had some talent died way too soon. Some of you people must have been seriously lacking in the home training dept. -
That's a good point. I suppose he at least refrained from any more explicit genitalia references, but yeah, Harry's really not the guy you want giving your eulogy.
-
Agreed. I'm always tempted to call it lack of class, but I think it's really a lack of...well, happiness and self-fulfillment. People who are fulfilled, happy, and who just have an all-around feeling of general well being just don't need to sit around snark-sniping like that. Kinda pitiful when you look around the Internet and see just how many people are miserable enough to be professionally cynical and mean.
-
Sorry to see the White Horse get you.
-
When people say "it's sad" it's because, they're not talking about a drug, or a drug user, they're talking about some one's son who's died, some one's brother, uncle, or grandson.
Brad Renfro's death is sad because he was some one's son, some one's brother, some one's grandson, and he left this world too son, having succumbed to his demons, as opposed to beating them.
I have no idea what it is like to take drugs or be a drug addict, but my brother has been a cocaine addict for almost 20 years. When I see him, I see this shell of a man who's body and mind have been ravaged by a substance that feels no regret, and shows no mercy. Of course I don't feel bad for my brother, but I am saddened that the person I grew up with has chosen to lose himself in his addiction, and talk about being better, as opposed to taking the steps to get better. If my brother died tomorrow because of his addiction, I would be sad, because he's my brother and I love him. That's the point.
Reading these posts that seem to throw Brad Renfro's life away with a word because he somehow deserved death is infuriating. We all deserve life, a second chance, a third chance, a fourth chance. Brad Renfro wasn't a junkie, he was a person, with a mother, and a father. His life and death deserve our compassion, not because of his shortcomings as a human, but because he was human, and deserves the dignity of being such.
Why is compassion so hard to come by?
J.M. Prater -
The thing is, Harry's ostensibly a journalist. If he's going to run a website that is taken at all seriously, he has a responsibility to play within bounds; he doesn't behave as such, and it pisses some of us off. Was his experience watching a movie with two movie stars really germain to the article he was writing? Maybe, maybe not, but Harry's been known to mention his own personal interaction with the Hollywood Glitterati on more than one inappropriate occasion, so it's a bit of a sore spot for a lot of the forumers here. And is it verging on intolerable to have to read Harry's umpteenth bodily fluid reference in a friggin' obituary? You betcha. Harry is, hands-down, the most unprofessional and irresponsible of his particular stratum of the Media. He's never made an effort to bother with simple things like grammar, spelling, and punctuation, he's suspiciously fond of new films that he eventually condemns a few months or years down the road, and his thesaurus apparently contains no superlatives other than "pants-creamingly good", "cum-tastic", "pussy-juice-o-licious", and endless variations of similarly base 8th Grade terminology. It's not funny, it's not informative, and it's distractingly foul. And you know what? That's all fine, relatively speaking, when he's reviewing 'Species 6' or whatever; it's fluffy journalism anyway. But it's something else entirely when he's composing an OBITUARY. Is it so much to ask that he either learn to reign it the fuck in under these circumstances, or else delegate the duty of writing this type of article to a superior journalist at AICN?
-
Jonathan Brandis was taking acutane, which allegedly can cause suicidal inclinations as a side effect. Sure, it's probably just one of many contributing factors to his suicide, but honestly, you want to go out of your way to bring him up as ANOTHER dead person for whom you have no sympathy? Why? This whole morally righteous lack of sympathy for anyone perceived as weak is one of the reasons the world is going to shit, and there's a little microcosm of it going on in this talkback. I don't care who wants to do whatever to their own body, and I can appreciate the bizarre spectacle of a public self-destruction, but I certainly feel sorry for any person who loses the fight against their own demons.
-
...even though I'm not really dissing him, but, I've always thought Renfro 'borrowed' some of his acting mannerisms from Richard Gere, of all people. For example, when he would get really intense and pissed-off about something in a scene, he would tilt his head down and get in this weird defensive stance with his shoulders forward and fists balled, and start blinking his eyes a lot, almost to the point of being a distraction. That's one of those ticks I've noticed about Gere, and Renfro did the same thing on numerous occasions. Anyway, it's a shame he went out the way he did. He kind of paved the way for your Ben Fosters and Ryan Goslings.
-
if heroin is so great that people literally die to keep it in their lives, it must be pretty swell. Because dying for something is one hell of a sales pitch.
-
first of all the reason noone is reporting on this site regarding roger Avary's drunk driving accident is the same reason they didn't report on Owen Wilson's sucide attempt, because this is a NOT a gossip news site, if you want that information there are plenty others out there. This site is about upcoming movies, sneak previews, etc, I ask anyone on this talkback asking about Roger Avary to search high and low on AICN forany kind of celeb gossip or news of that sort, it doesn't happen.AICN makes a regular habit of doing obits for actors and actresses, directors, producers, muscians, etc who made a contribution to film, espically geek films. Brad Renfro falls into that catagory. I don't think anyone here is approving of Renfro's choices, not by any means, but can we accpe thtat a young man made a mistake with his life that cost him his life. it is a a tragedy anytime someone young and talented loses their life in this manner, be it John Belushi, Chris Falry, River Phoneix, Brad Renfro, etc.I know that the AICN Talkbacks are a vile place full of villany and scum, but my word people, this young man has friends and family that I'm sure loved him, but for some reason couldn't reach him, but still loved him. If you don't like his choices and don't like his movie, don't bother even posting on here
-
Just re-read my reply to you,and I wanted to mention that I basically agree with you, and I'm not trying to be a jerk. :)
-
left in them.Thank you guys.
-
To some extent I agree with you. Brandis was on that drug, but as you stated, it's not sure what the reason could have been for his suicide. I am an avid believer in the fact that suicide is never okay. It's giving up. It's my choice not to feel sorry for that. Just like it was Brandis' choice for taking a drug that may have made him suicidal. As far as Renfro goes, I stated in an above post that I've had friends die under similar circumstances. Do I feel bad they are gone? Yes. Do I feel bad for their families? Yes. Do I think Renfro, and people like him, are morons? I do. It doesn't make me any less of a person that anyone here. It's a matter of opinion, one that I know you don't share, which is okay. I won't put you down. I have no reason to. I'm just saying it was Renfro's choice. Cause and effect. He made a choice, and now he's paid for it. I have nothing against what Harry said, nor have I made a comment about it. It doesn't bother me. But I don't feel as though I myself have crapped on Renfro's legacy at all.
-
...so legalizing pot will stop people taking Heroin? Seriously, I think you've been on the pot.
-
if you can point to a SINGLE obit where Harry talks about bodily fluid or cum or whateverin re to his reviews, well that's been a staple of this site since the beginning. One thing you can say about Harry, this site is pretty mcuh the same site it has been since it started in what 96, 97? I remember reading his pumped up hyper review of Carpenter's Vampires, which wasn't very good, or Mori's review of Pitch Black which I enjoyed was hyped up...or what about Six String SamaruiI can go on and on...he's been a part of the Hollywood system since at least 97 when he appeared in The Faculty or in MonkeyBone. then there is the ill fated Oscars fiascoSure Harry may be featured as 100 Most Powerful People in Hollywood or review a film with Roger Ebert, or whatever but all things considered this site is the same as it has always been in both content and in Talkbacks
-
I hope this doesn't sound trite or platitudinous, but I think displays of compassion are hard to come by because so many people who are angry, unhappy, scared, cynical.
When a person feels balanced and secure and likes herself or himself, it's practically impossible to be flippant about the plight of another human being who's in trouble. Even when you're in an anonymous situation. The think I think people often forget is that being happy and compassionate requires some effort. Sitting around and waiting won't make it happen--but proving your positive value to others, to yourself will. THAT'S why compassion is so hard to come by: It takes some work accomplish. -
I always take Harry's writing with a sizable grain of salt, so I guess I'm accustomed to the fact that he always relates whatever he's writing about to some barely relevant flashback, like when a little kid tells you a story. It can be eye-roll inducing but I don't think it's intentionally offensive. The scatalogical/dick joke thing just seems to be getting worse, though, and it just seems creepier and less funny over time, like a bad Andrew Dice Clay rip-off (I know, "bad?"). There's no question that this is exactly the reason they need Moriarty around here.
-
You will be sadly missed.
-
"I remember watching APT PUPIL the first time in my living room with Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood and Laura Harris" COME ON!! Was that supossed to impress us, Harry? Seems like a stretch that you'd drop names like that. Damn shame you can't just stick to the fact that we've lost Brad Renfro.

Why does this have anything to do with legalizing marijuana? Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% behind the legalization of said plant, but I must have missed the relevance here. To me, alcohol is FAR more dangerous than weed, and they serve it up to people all day long. :-/
-
Ironic to appear in a film based on a Brett Easton Ellis movie after you overdose.
Apt Pupil, Bully, Ghostworld AND Sleepers. Sad to see him go. One of the tragedies of addiction is that a lot of people overdose when they're trying to get clean; their body just can't handle another hit.
For what its worth he left something behind. RIP -
SJBKAT: I see where you're coming from, too. Obviously, it's a pretty dumb idea to take drugs that have a track record of killing most it's users, and people who choose to do heroin have made demonstrably stupid decisions, but to emphasize the stupidity of his mistakes over any expression of sympathy for the loss of a human being with problems just makes me want to speak up. None of us can say what the guy was dealing with or how we'd do it differently because you'll never know how it felt to actually be that person. But, yeah, sorry to jump on you, I appreciate the response. Chumpmonkey: I always appreciate a well thought out, reasoned reply in a talkback, so no offense taken at all. I was generally just talking shit to the "OWNED!" crowd in here, I agree with your points on AICN in general.
-
Did we ever find out what happened with that dude?
-
The whole "invincibility" reason is probably accurate in a lot of cases, even if it is sort of an old excuse, but I don't think it's applicable as frequently as people think even amongst stars. I think people, whoever they are, just want to feel something and they turn to drugs or alcohol (or both) to do it. There's nothing new or sacred in society anymore, or at least in as much of society. Little or nothing shocks us, scares us or thrills us (sufficiently). Spirituality has become a joke associated with things like dime-a-dozen self-help books and religion is frowned upon because of its frequent association with paranoia, dangerous cults and terrorism. General survival isn't nearly the task it was even a hundred years ago so most of us probably have a lot more time on our hands than we would have had in the past, especially if we could make that kind of money that easily. I'm not saying acting is all easy, but what do you do between projects? If drugs are the reason Renfro died, I just think he did it because he could -- because he didn't care. I mean, why should he? Consider the culture he was a part of. If anyone says there's a heaven or hell, they're immediately labeled a right-wing nutcase. Why always act responsibly or fear death without hell or without eternal consequence? Why care? Of course, I don't think religion is necessarily the answer here, but my point is that all these factors could enter into it and few have anything to do with one thinking they're invincible. Some people know they're not invincible and just don't care. What's more, it is tragic BECAUSE it's preventable, but it's only preventable on the part of the user. When it comes to things like drugs, alcohol or nicotine, all the drug legislation, "drink responsibly" labels and TRUTH ads ultimately can't compete with an addict's or abuser's will.

If I remember correctly, It was Brad who prevented us Romero geeks from seeing GR's commercial for Resident Evil in the states. He was in the commercial for the Japan version which Romero directed. Because he was still an "up and coming" star at the time, there was a claus in the contract to not allow it to be shown in the states. You can find it on the web now though. RIP Brad.
-
It was for the RE2 game I think.
-
it's sad, but...well, you know
-
No offense taken, and thanks for keeping it civil when so many others would have just called me an idiot and left it alone. Nice to know there are still people in the talkback who appreciate the difference of opinions.
-
Such a shame. The Client kicked ass.
He was great and Susan Sarandon was pretty hot in it.
Take it easy buddy. -
Sure he fucked up royally, but he was a gifted actor and he seemed like a nice guy. Major loss. Love ya Brad. Rest in peace buddy.
-
um...because it's cheap, it's tacky, and it's incredibly narcissistic. Maybe it's just me, but when you make a death announcement, it's kind of 'that person's time', you know? The last person a Brad Renfro death announcement post should be about, is Harry Knowles. If he just wanted to point out that Brad was respected by other actors of his generation, there are a million ways to say that that don't involve stories about celebrities chillin with you in your pad, you know, like friends do?
-
Killed himself, if memory serves. I don't remember HOW, though. I know Ray Combs of Family Fued fame allegedly hung himself, though. SURVEY SAYS!!
-
is when people refer to drug use as being due to a need to fill a hole or void in ones life, because you're unhappy or trying to 'numb the pain'. Sure, I bet there are a few out there that are trying to numb some pain, drugs would certainly do the trick. But most people have used drugs in their life, be it pot, alcohol, lsd, e, whatever. The point is, 99% of those people did it simply because their curiosity got the best of them, and then they found that it was really, really fun. People do drugs for the same reason they go to an amusement park, for out-of-the-norm stimulus. Not because they want to feel better than bad, but because they want to feel better than good. And rich people invariably end up in the cocaine\heroin end of the pool, simply because they can afford it, and boom, they're sucked into a chemical addiction, which sucks them down into a whole cesspool of negativity.
-
before I scrolled down to read the talkback--but that's not because or despite anything that Harry did or didn't do. It's because __I__ don't think of Elijah Wood as anything more or less than another human being.
Who's sat on my sofa? My mom and dad, brother and sister. My best friend. A woman who's beaten cancer twice. A guy I know who needed a place to crash when he came to town to see a relative in the hospital. All of those are at least as cool as Elijah Wood sitting on my sofa. If you're impressed enough by Elijah to notice it and get wound up over it when Harry says the guy was sitting on his sofa, maybe it's because of how __you__ are thinking of Elijah Wood, not about any image that Harry would like you to have in your head when you read his stuff. -
Is on the fine, underrated tv show, "Women's Muder Club", as well was in Season 2 of 24.
-
Also, most people who try drugs do not develop a dependency on them; just as most people who drink do not become alcoholics. It can be a habit that turns into chemical addiction as time goes on.
Even some relatively dangerous substances (Ecstasy, LSD, Shrooms) are not particularly addictive although habitual drug users may throw them into the mix with disastrous results. -
It's ok mentioing how two actors wanted a particular role, but adding Laura Harris in with it, and saying they were in your living room was a little much.
-
Bound to be better than wading through this amazingly shallow sea of people who seem really, really, really concerned that Harry may or may not have been attempting to impress them by telling them that some actors were in his living room one time. Which story would, of course, be utterly meaningless to them if they weren't actually impressed by hearing that Harry had some actors in his living room one time, and furthermore felt as though there own casual utterances would probably not be that cool and impressive. Self-awareness is a bitch sometimes, which I guess is why so many people avoid it.
-
Anyway, it is a bummer about Brad. Total waste. Bully was pretty good.
-
My Man, did I wish death upon the ignorant slut? NOPE. If you can prove to me otherwise I'll eat them words. I merely pointed out the fact that the trailer trash bimbette is doing her own self in. She dosen't need my help or ill wishes which, by the way, I didn't make. I still stand by what I said, and that was I'd put her at the top of my "dead pool" becase she's young and would score major points. That's all...no ill will.
-
Ignorant slut is putting it likely. I don't wish death upon her (who needs to, her life is wreckless enough to ensure it) but I do hope to God that she never sees her kids. At least not for a long, long time. That makes complete sense.
-
I meant that calling her an ignorant slut was putting it lightly. My bad.
-
Regarding giving you an example of Harry applying his usual scatological/sexual analogies in an obituary, I was actually speaking in general terms, inspired specifically by Harry's use of the word "orgasmic" in reference to heroin's effects. While this hardly treads into the spectacularly crude territory of Harry's usual, er, creative understanding of the English language, it bugged me that even when composing a write-up on the tragic death of a troubled 25-year-old, he still managed to find a way to shoehorn in a sexual reference, albeit a diminished one. Harry really needs to come to understand two things: First, there is a time and a place for his particular brand of inelegance. Second, there are literally dozens of words that work to describe how great something is, and most of them are not graphically sexual in nature. Unless I'm mistaken, Harry is a man in his THIRTIES -- it's time to drop the elementary school vernacular and learn to describe something as "spectacular" rather than "splooge-tacular". Oy.
-
Why? Because it's fucking cool, man.
-
Abe Vigoda will outlive everyone!! All hail the great Abe Vigoda!!

Take a page from MandalorianSage's book and stop worshipping actors, dammit! Mandalorian doesn't need crutches like worshipping actors; he makes sweet, sweet, sweaty crazy monkey love to his caps lock key.

i remember back in '73 I was sparring w/ Bruce Lee(this was a few weeks before "Enter the Dragon" was released) and we were talkin about this Renfro fella and this and that and now..he's gone..such a waste..
-
This is the wierdest moment i've had in a long time, I miss Brad Renfro, i mean just as someone who's never known the guy i still feel like i grew up with him ever since tom sawyer and huck fin (90's disney movie). I've liked everyone of his movies. Harry i feel you were alittle harsh for saying (paraphrasing) his career was over after apt. pupil. Wow i'm just in shock. RIP Brad Renfro.
-
people who hit the lottery and blow it. This guy had what thousands of kids would do almost anything for - a budding career in the movie biz. Sure there was no guarantee he would've had a long career, but for that moment he was in and he threw it all away. He knew alcohol was wrong to drink underage and he knew drugs were bad news too and he flew to it like a moth to the flame. It's sad yes, but I just can't feel sorry for him. He knew what he was doing.
-
the ol "momma's basement" insult. Look i know a lot of geeks and not one lives in their mom's basement. i currently live in my grandmother's guest room, but thats an entirely different affair. as for young brad, tooo, too bad. i remember coming back to l.a. for winter break a couple years ago, and who do i see on the front page of the times, big as life being cuffed against the window of a car in skid row? i though that was remarkable .you never see good photos of celebrities at the moment of their arrest. i mean drugs are one thing , but heroin, jesus. you practically sign away your life with that first shot...
-
..i'm reminded of the time when me and my pal Kurt Cobain were just hangin' out and he offered me some heroin and i says to him..'Kurt,you might as well put a shotgun to your mouth and pull the trigger'..Anyways, R.I.P. Brad
-
for shame harold, really, my grief filled memories dont have celebrity cameos, but yours do and ou gotta rub it in...

by evildoer
Like I said it's not sad it's life! These drugs KILL PEOPLE! When will people learn that the high isn't worth the risk! I mean I know Heroin is supposed to be the ultimate high! But dude!!! C'MON it could also cost you the ultimate prize!!! YOUR LIFE!
BRAD is just another dumbfuck in the long line of hollywood dumbfucks who has it all handed to him as a child, and grows up in the bis with the world at his feet, and he throws it all away for a needle, and some drugs, and we're supposed to be sad by his death? FUCK BRAD RENFRO! FUCK HIM, AND LET HIM ROTT IN HELL! ALONG WITH ANYONE ELSE STUPID LIKE HIM! I HAVE ZERO SYMPATHY FOR HIM AS A PERSON.
AS an actor he was a very talented actor, and it's a shame that such a talent is wasted over something so stupid as HEROIN! Why can't these guys just smoke some weed, and drink like normal people do!? Seriously it's pathetic! And all you people saying "RIP BRAD" are fucking idiots! YOU FUCKING TWITS should all go inject yourself with some Heroin, and join BRAD's dumbass in the belly of hell!
Remember if your religious you would know that people who die like him don't make it into heaven... He is forever burning!!! Like P.E & ICE CUBE said once... BURN HOLLYWOOD BURN! -

i agree with you evildoer, it is a waste, but maye there's a reason this happens so much, especially among people in the arts. you can have all the great things in the world handed to you, but artists are just of that certain doesnt allow them to escape the eternal fact that life on earth, even with money, friends, and love, just aint that great. so why not destroy yourself. its your own decision.
-
The title of your post was "WHen will it be Brittany's Turn." May not sound like wishing death on someone to you but to me it does. If you didnt mean it that way ok I apologize but it certainly seems like you were implying you wanted her to hurry up and bite it.
-
where he played a boy who had aids.. very good little actor. R.I.P
-
Law and Order: CI maybe a couple of years ago. It was a good performance. Really creepy. Even when he was slumming on TV the guy was solid actor. I don't care how you died. Just sorry it happened. R.I.P.
-
...but it might be justifiable if the life of an addict was glorious right up till they croaked. If you ask me, the WORST thing is that the damn drug completely destroys the quality of your life way before it kills you too early. Like I said earlier, of all the drugs there are to get hooked on, heroin is the one I least understand. Then again, there are always the self-righteous blowhards waiting around to spit on the corpse of someone they think was inferior. Maybe it's because I'm three weeks removed from smoking my last Camel, but I hardly feel in a position to condemn folks. I just know that I'd rather have a good, healthy, sane life right up until I check out, so I'm taking the responsibility that's mine. Whatever people like Brad Renfro are missing, I wish like hell they could find it and fix themselves, because I don't think any human deserves to wallow in pain for years before they die, no matter their personal flaws.
-
He didn't play the boy who had AIDS, that was the Jurassic park kid, joseph or something. He was the next door neighbor that took him to that clinic or doctor or whatever it was.
-
Brad who died?
-
oh, I haven't seen it in a while.well r.i.p to the little boy [he probably died at the end]
-
"those arent moms, those are WOMEN!"
-
i cant feel for this guy. its like saying some random dude in Philly died today.
-
Seriously, that movie was awesome, Renfro was pretty funny in it. No one here seems to remember it.
-
I see your point, I didn't pick up on it on the first read through, just like I really didn't notice the name dropping of Elijah Wood because I knew he was a friend of Harry's and was in talks to play the role in Apt Pupil, however I do see your point and I apologize for jumping to that conculsion
-
Before I start this, just fyi I'm not dropping names, I'm not saying that I am supporting anything or what have you, just telling a story. I met Brad a few years back at a Hollywood club. He was standing at the bar, just next to me, had a drink in his hand and was looking around. I looked at him, did a double take, and told him that I respected his work as an artist in The Client, Apt Pupil, and Bully. He smiled, put a $20 on the bar and said, "thanks man. next one's on me" Tipped his drink, shook my hand, and walked off. Classy.
It was cool. he knew I wasn't trying to kiss his ass or anything. He just appreciated the compliment. No matter what he died of, thats the way I'll remember him. -
Talented actor that I grew up watching in those movies. Rest in peace my friend.
-
...were supposed to star in a film together. Renfro would have played a high school wrestler and Stallone his overbearing father. Anyone else hear about this possible film?
-
Thanks for sharing. I fucking hate drug dealers. They took Kurt Cobain away from us too. Fucking smoke 'em all, I say. I hope Sly's Death Wish deals with killing off heroin dealers.
-
from some for drug addicts, but hey, they are addicts. I blame the dealers - they probably swarm around kids like Brad until they get them hooked. Fucking animals.
-
Damn. That was a great story. At least while he was alive, he had some class.
-
I can see that point of view. Renfro was young, impressionable, and probably had access to anything he wanted. All it takes is one dealer to put a wrench in a person's program.
-
Notice how no less than THREE child actors who have appeared in Stephen King movies have died young? River Phoenix (Stand By Me), Jonathan Brandis (It) and now Renfro (Apt Pupil). Creepy...
-
He was conveying a story about watching Apt Pupil with two actors who wanted that role and admired Renfro in it. Totally reasonable in context. I don't think he was doing it to impress anyone for God's sake.
-
Too many fucking predators out there. You know, I don't idolize people because they're addicts, but one of my biggest idols - Cobain - was done in by his addiction. I wish he lived to raise Francis Bean, but can you imagine an addiction so powerful that you would kill yourself instead of living for your daughter? It's tragic.
-
Rest in Peace, Brad. I truly liked him, both as an actor and as a fellow Tennessean. He should have lived much longer.
-
I see your point for sure. While I'm still not 100% on board with feeling bad for Renfro, I agree with you. It is the drug dealers. I don't know how bad an addiction can be. I've never had one, so on that note, I'm not somebody who can understand what Renfro went through.

That's the best you came up with: "Brad Renfro gone"
by thebearovingian
No long-winded, slobbering, "we've lost a bright, shining star", etc. Seems a little weak compared to the other "tributes". Nothing says "I'm tired of hearing the TBers bitch and moan about creating an obit TB" like "Brad Renfro gone".
-
he suffered the same fate to heroin so many years ago...although i think his descent was much more tragic like becoming a male prostitute and living in the streets before death
-
some peope need to know when to stop partying - you know what you call non-celebrities that love to party more than going to work? junkies/beggars/homeless - not all hard cases are unlucky - they just love getting high - getting high can be fun - weve all gotten high with one drug or another - but at some point you need to say to yourself (or have someone around you say) "hey man, you gotta work tomorrow - put that shit down" - brad turned into the guy he played in "bully" - sadly by choice - we all make choices - lifes full of them - "hmmm, i can either put down this pipe send these fuckers home and go to bed or i can stay up until i dehydrate completely and continue to smoke this shit - because everyone seems to like me" - the saddest part about him dying is he didnt have to - how does this kid go from starring in movies and getting respect as an actor to getting busted and cuffed on the street in broad daylight - like that kid in "a bronx tale" - killed breakin into a house - actors, theyre so complicated - bullshit
-
dont hang out with dealers - no matter how good the pussy they get you is

courtney did - that fuckin no talent train wreck road kurts gravy train all the way to his fuckin funeral - i mean shit - look at her - shes a pig - flashin her titties in a fast food joint in hollywood - getting high in public - shes still cashing in on nirvana royalties - she introduced kurt to the "dealer" element - that was her circle - he was a fucking depressed writer that happened to make it as a musician - and she wanted in on it - her marriage to him got her stupid band some air play and got her some celebrity and eventually acting jobs - she traded up and it paid off - especially after kurt was out of the picture - fuck that bitch - she should o.d. already
-
he died because being a strict vegetarian with chronic fatigue doesnt mix well with no sleep lots of alchohol and very powerful brown heroin
-
Sad state of affairs with Brad. I loved him in Bully, that could have been a carree making film if he had the common sense to stay off the smack. Apt Pupil was standard fair. A circle jerk with Josh Hartlet and Mr. Wood sounds like a hoot.
-
Bully & Apt Pupil were both great performances.
-
There's a lot of unfortunate stuff here. Brad Renfro, who was actually a human being, for all of those too lost in fanboy land to grasp the concept, died of a heroin overdose. It's unfortunate.
Ignorance is actually pretty unfortunate too. Drug addiction, is actually categorized as a disease. If it was cancer, people wouldn't be saying, "what an idiot, the dude knew cancer kills people". If it was suicide in a schizophrenic or bipolar episode, same thing.
Grow up. For real. -

Bully and Ghost World seemed to have killed his career...
by sledge hammer
...as he pretty much appeared only in crap after that. It's a shame though, because he was great in those two films, especially Bully. Also loved his work in The Client, Sleepers and Apt Pupil. Why he never got more quality roles I'll never know. Damn shame. Hopefully he finished his role in The Informers so that he might (hopefully) have one final good role to go out on.Oh, and while we're on the subject, yeah the name dropping was lame, and just because someone died at the hands of their own personal demons doesn't automatically give people the right to act like complete cunts and piss all over their memories. Have your lives been so flawless and perfect and without sin or mistake that you can damn others mistakes without even a hint of hypocrisy? Grow up. It is possible to believe his choices to have been a tragic waste, and even believe that he is ultimately fully responsible for his own fate, while still being respectful to the memory of a young, talented man who has died. A little human compassion...
-
I'll admit I've never been aware of him until news of his death. All the same, it is terrible how common drugs are in the entertainment industry.
-
Wow. This is a pretty crazy one. I remember Renfro growing up on the big screen throughout the 90s quite vividly. Hard to believe the guy's gone. I loved him in "Sleepers," which was when I first really took note of him, but I was completely amazed by his work in Larry Clark's searing "Bully." I am glad Renfro at least had the opportunity to put his stamp on cinema with that strong performance in that very memorable movie.
-
I appreciated all of your work that I saw (including that Resident Evil 2 commercial your reps wouldn't let out of Japan), and was holding out hope you'd clean up and get going on the career again.
Now then: Talkbackers? You're a bunch of heartless fucktards. Especially the ones who came on just to say you thought this guy sucked. Despicable. -
News of someone who died and people are arguing over why Harry "dropped" some names...pffff...whatever gets you hot Fuckers...RIP to Renfro, bless his familie and friends
-
The thing about heroin is that it's a bit more-ish. Mmmmm!
-
Tragic news indeed. I had wondered what happened to the guy. Kind of had forgotten all about him. Now I tragically know what became of him. Sad news indeed. Such a young guy.
-
So retro, Renfro.
-
... I was a fan of what he did in Ghost World - terrific movie.
-
River Phoenix got a future, Brad Renfro got a past. He was already dead, the drugs, or whatever, just made it official.
-
comeback Drew Barrymore made. We could have easily read an obit about "that E.T." kid a few years ago. Sorry he's dead, but the truth is I don't have a lot of sympathy for people who have made it, then throw it all away. A little bit of jealousy on my part perhaps, but these are things they bring on themselves.

and about his depression, which unfortunately goes hand-in-hand with a lot of brilliant artists. The only one I felt for when he died was Francis Bean. Courtney was foul to the core, and still is, needless to say. I'd like to think Kurt would have been content to quit and leave the limelight, and raise his daughter. But that wannabe celeb bitch drove him deeper into depression and who the hell knows what she said to him.
Xi, damn right. My apologies to the animals. They at least kill each other for food, not cash. -
that Courtney has so much control over Nirvana's body of work. I'm no expert, but somehow doesn't she have control over the majority of it, or some disproporionate amount?
-
I haven't kept up with Nirvana news since Kurt's passing but from what I understand she does have more control than Novoselic and Grohl. Comes with being the leader's widow, I guess. Like pouring salt on the wound.
-
......take heed, people. Drugs are bad, uuumkay?
And I love "Bully". He was great in that. Sad to see another promising person ruined. -
Congrats on being a former. Stay gold.

Seriously Cap'n Jack, someone married your petty ass? Really? AND you live in a house? I'm so impressed. (By the way, a ten dollar hooker isn't technically the same thing as a wife, and a trailer isn't the same thing as a house), though the specific nature of your dwelling and the relationship you have to the fat lady you live with weren't the point, it's the fact that you're behaving like an eight year old moron.
You assholes accuse these guys of dropping names, and yet here you are time and again POSTING ON HARRY'S SITE. If you're so superior why aren't you posting on YOUR OWN SITE, or hanging out with your own celebrity pals? Maybe because you're dickless, basement dwelling losers, who WISH YOU WERE HARRY KNOWLES, and you don't have a website, or friends, or a life. And I love you're homo-erotic insults too. You guys all speak with the voice of experience when you write things like that, and it doesn't make Riddle man look like "fag". It makes you look like juvenile douchebag who thinks about sucking dick an awful lot.
Even if Harry was dropping names for the purpose of elevating his own image, (which anyone who isn't a jaded loser could see was not his intent), so fucking what? Get over it, and get over yourself.
If Harry doesn't have the right to state the name of the individuals he shared this moment with, then get the fuck off of his site, and go do something else. Fuckwits. Christ, I get annoyed with some of the editorials on this site, and I don't agree with everything Harry says, but christ if you hate the guy so much, nobody is forcing your sorry asses to be here, GET LOST. -
Seeing an old man smoke Pall Mall no filter ciggies. Even though I quit smoking some eight years ago (nasty, filthy habit) it just tickles the back of my balls to see old men & women lighting up. There is hope in this world.
You wanna cut down on drug overdoses? LEGALIZE IT, and TAX THE FUCK OUT OF IT. Provide help to those who need it, take the criminal element out of the equasion, regulate the strength, and lock up the idiots who insist on gettin high while driving.
Oh, I forgot, common sense is dead in this country. Didja hear how Bush (not his administration, but BUSH HISSELF) exempted yesterday the navy from using mid-range sonar in wildlife protection areas in the name of "national security". Fuck a bunch of whales, dolphins, etc...Al Quadea is hiding in the muck just off San Fransisco Bay. 368 day left of our national nightmare!!! -
But today the official site for No Country for Old Men has a podcast critic's discussion featuring one Harry Knowles.
-
Alcoholic, I do sympathize with Renfro and indeed many other celebs who fall to addiction. Its one of thosethings you dont expect to take hold of you and you dont even realize it has until you're left puking in the toilet every night. The thing with addictions is that you usually want to stop but can't...hence why its called an addiction.Don't forget that people with addictions are still human and you could easily slide down yourself.
-
This sickens me to the core that this website and its staff feel the need to not only kick his career while hes dead but to go a step further and post that he was a heroin addict and that was the reason for his demise .
lets show a little fukkin tact people .
i petition the staff of aint it cool news to deleate that post out of respect for brads family and friends .
when harry passes away from obesity wich judging by the looks of him he just may ,will you the staff be so crude as to post something about him in a like vein ?
i used to be a fan of this site but after reading just how self centred you are i now think you aint so cool.

I don't shoot up HEROIN because it kills!!! I've done other drugs like xtc, coke, weed, and have drank!!! But I did that as a teen, and it was stupid, and if I had died due to it I wouldn't expect anyone feeling sorry for me because it was my own stupidity that did it to me.
I don't buy addiction because I've stopped using all drugs cold turkey! Well except weed but I don't think I'm going to OD, and die from smoking weed! lol
But seriously the reason why I don't do hard drugs is cus there is a risk, and I value my life... Brad didn't value his life, and most likely wanted to die! This is why he would use Heroin, and who knows what other hard drugs like Coke, Speed, and LSD.... Mix that with hard drinking, and you might aswell play russian roulet with a full barrel because that's safer then doing all that.
People know that Heroin kills but they do it anyway because yes it addicts them but why do they try it in the first place? Because they don't value their lives.
Brad was a good actor, and I'm sure a nice guy... But he was also a dumbfuck who asked to die. -

I agree about drug dealers being like psychic vampires. I've always put them at the top of my list of the worst kinds of people along with rapists. They take souls. Even serial killers and mass murderers don't do that. I also don't understand why people even try drugs in the first place. I mean Gen X grew up with anti-drug education hammered into our brains. So anyone our age or younger that takes drugs at all confuses me. I don't condemn them, I just don't get it.
I wasn't that familiar with Brad Renfro's work, but I did like 'Apt Pupil' a lot. It is a shame what happened to him. I mean when you do decide to take drugs for the first time you don't know whether or not you'll be the type who gets hooked. So if anyone is going to blame him then I think they have to think that way about anyone who has ever taken a drug even just once. No one chooses to become addicted. And there are plenty of addicts who have said they got addicted right away. -
Screw Clinton, Obama, all of them. Sure, Ron Paul's nutty, but at least he wears his nuttiness on his sleeve and dosen't try to wrap himself up in Jesus, poll numbers or the flag. It's about time America said "Fuck You" to the rest of the world and took care of our own for a change. Then and only then, and only if asked, we can baby sit the rest of the world. Fuck a bunch of bleeding hearts...or maybe I'm just wired up on my cough medicine today (Iophen-C NR...I've got bronchitis this week). But no way in hell will I ever vote for a Clinton again (and I never have/never will vote for a Bush). Man, this cough medicine is goooood stuff (cough hack).

2 words... Michael Hutchence.. dude hung himself from a hotel door whilst having a wank and slipped.... silly boy!
-
And really scary in Bully! Great work & sad news.
-
Great post about addiction ... I was never an alcoholic or addicted to drugs ... just some pot in college was the extent of it, and I don't even drink. But I was a smoker and but for a great book on quitting I may have been a lifelong nicotine addict. If it was that hard to quit smoking, I can't even imagine the difficulty with heroin.
And today is my Don't Argue With Retards Day, so I will refrain from posting to Anchorhead. Suffice to say that, coming from a supposed medical family, he sure is ignorant about addiction. -
and it brings all the tub-thumpers and haters out, doesn't it? And where are you all getting your "heroin overdose" BS from - the autopsy is happening today, so nobody knows yet how he died. Have a little respect.
-
poor sad little flamer no one even cares enough to get worked up over
-
Good job on quitting. As for the other idiot in the room ... you too should have a Don't Argue With Retards Day. It's like a day at the spa.
glovedone ... Pwned. -
That sold me.

Something to make us all feel good!

Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking
Here's a link to Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/3x7en4
I bought the 4-disc CD set from B&N. By the middle of the 4th disc I smoked my last cig. Read the testimonials at Amazon. I personally attest to what everyone else said. And even if you're not 'ready', buy the book and keep it for a rainy day, it'll be worth it. -
not 4. And it is incredibly comforting to listen to.
-
Its tragic to lose a life so young and full of promise as Brad Renfro, good or bad right or wrong we all have our personal demons to deal with in this life, lets just all give condolences to brad's family & friends and remember him for the solid actor & person he really was.
-
Offed himself? Overdoses are not always intentional dude. They haven't released any details yet.
-
is delusional. If he became president the USA would be like a pussy that gets fucked by other countries. We need Mitt Romney up in the Whizzite Hizzouse.
-
Chinless people are freaks.
-
WTF are you talking about? Zach Braff is running for President? How about you try cheering for people who are actually running or able to run for President instead of some twenty-something fuck face actor? This is an election for the leader of a country, not a college chess club. By the way, "mediocre" is a point of view. His movies may have been mediocre to you but maybe not to others. I thought that his movies were above average, especially Apt. Pupil, which was pretty fuckin good. Furthermore, why shouldn't we remember him as he was? Should we remember him as he WASN'T? Come on man... get a clue. Oh yeah, and just because he was an addict he doesn't deserve to be remembered? Fuck you you self-righteous cock sucker. Go fuck yourself. Addicts are human beings and are mortal just like you are you son of a bitch. Addictions, especially drug addictions, are fucking hard to beat, so shut the fuck up. Maybe someday when you die someone will say something nice about you and someone else will say "Ehhhh he was a fuckin asshole."
-
I like you a lot more than Braff.
-
but man, name dropping like that in an OBIT of sorts? have you no shame?
-
Please don't feed the animals ... glovedone has no interest in you or this subject. He's just an attention starved child trying to upset anybody he can.

YOU FUCKIN SON OF A BITCH I HOPE YOU RUN INTO A LARGE FAT BLACK MAN IN A DARK ALLEY AND HE RAPES YOU. Btw how are addicts sloppy speedbumps on your road to success? If anything, they actually increase your chances of being successful because they won't be out there competing with you. And also I have nothing against Zach Braff, but he should not be president. And speaking of respect, your mom showed my dick some respect last night bitch.

I hope they put it on Pay Per View. One less ugly chinless freak in the world.

Thanks, Huckabee.

I thought it was pretty lame that she wasn't mentioned here when it was suspected she might have killed herself, but then got a talkback when it was learned she was murdered. I don't see how Brad Renfro didn't kill himself.

But I like Obama.

"Tom Cruise was found in the bedroom of his home in Salsbury, New York at approximately 1:37pm. He was found by his wife laying on the floor next to his bed with empty bottles of alcohol and an empty bottle of pharmacological sedatives and immediately rushed to Northwestern Roosevelt Hospital and pronounced dead at 2:22pm." Breaking News, I just saw it on cnn headlines news.

When I heard the news the other day I was chillin' at my crib with James "The Sandman" Fullington. we were having a great time drinking beer and popping prednisone when the phone rang and on the other end was Jerome "New Jack" Young, he was calling to talk about an upcoming show we are set to work on. When I asked him if he heard about Brad, he was like who? oh that nazi kid in that hitler movie. who cares about him, I'm New Jack bitch. After getting off the phone with Jerome, I made my daily call to Tommy "Dreamer" Laughlin to check on how he his with Theresa "Beulah McGilicutty" and their two lovely daughter were and to hit him up for Royal Rumble tickets. The wife and kids are good, but when it came to the tickets, Tommy was like he is on television, USELESS. Later on the doorbell rand and to my suprise it was Steve "Stone Cold Steve Austin" Williams. He had been in town for some promotional work and new James was over and wanted to have a beer dinking contest. After a few hours of drinking we were pretty messed up and Williams challenged Fullington to a Stairway To Hell Match. It ended pretty quick as Williams threw Fullington down the stairs outside my apartment and thru the glass window. The cops showed up and it was over. When they asked what happened we said it was all Brad Renfros fault.

It wasn't to debunk belief in God, but to debunk belief in Christianity and all other organized religion, and to show how they all get their roots from our observation of stellar phenomenon. There is a whole world of difference between organized religion and a fundamental belief in a higher power.
-
Shit actor, couldnt kick the drugs, more oxygen for the rest of us. Apt pupil was a long time ago and overrated. Next we'll be sobbing when Dom Deluise dies. He's alive right?
-
GOD is still a made up creation!
Is there a higher power? Maybe!
I bet there is! But we as humans don't know nor have the ability to know what this higher power might be!
Might not be what you would see as GOD!
But regarless ALL religions are BULLSHIT! -
I find it hard to comment on the rampant callousness on display here. A young man has died and people are stickin' it to him! If you don't care, don't post. A bit of decorum, yeah? This is not like in the movies when someone dies - A PERSON IS DEAD. Pay respect or shut up. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.

Gloved one are you diminished in your mental faculties?
by scytheofluna
What fucking country are you living in? Our economy is in the toilet, our health care, legal, and prison systems are overloaded, our electoral process is saturated with corruption, fraud, and security holes, and our national security and foreign policy is completely fucked. Our government has failed us, dumbass. We are trillions of dollars in debt, people are losing their homes. Yeah everything is just peachy. What exactly is it that you do for a living that you are so completely oblivious? Or are you another one of those trust fund douchebags who lives of his parent's new money?
Please don't take this as an endorsement of the Dems. Certainly I see them as the lesser of two assholes, but anybody who seriously thinks they can defend Bush's ignorance or his policies has a rectal/cranial inversion, or has just benefited enough from his upper-class tax breaks to supress their morality. Neither party has the best interests of the vast majority of Americans at heart but this administration has been a goddamned disaster. Remove your lips from Bush's taint and get a clue. -
Last night as I was having a threesome with Amy "Lita" Dumas and Maria Kanellis, I was thinking of how good it was to br baning Amy again after all these years, you see, I had her before Matt Hardy and Adam "Edge" Copeland and like a fine wine she got better with age, plus the fact that she lost weight and got more tone since we were last together. Back when Amy and I were an item, I had always tried to manipulate her into doing a threesome with no luck. I had been planning last night for months and I knew Amy and Maria were close and once Maria broke it off with her boyfriend Phil "C.M. Punk" Brooks, I began to lay my plan into action. Phil and I had been friends for some time working on the indys, and when he went to OVW before being called up to the main roster we spent a lot of time together, in OVW is where be both met Maria, contrary to popular belief, shes not the dumb bimbo that they portray her on television as. Anyway we made a bet as to who could bang her first and although Phil bopped her first, she blew my pipes clean before anything happened with Phil. I don't mean to brag, but what can I say, checks dig me. Anyway getting back to last night, as I was 69ing with Maria and Amy was playing with my balls the new trailer for the NEW Knight Rider television movie cam on and I began to think that the role of Michael Knight's son would have been perfect for Brad Renfro had he not drank himself to death, which made me think about when I first saw the client and thought about how much potential he had and that he would be a major star someday and well I was obviously wrong about that, but then again drugs and alcohol will do that to you and put you in an early grave just like another young actor that surely would have gone far River Phoenix, now why you ask would I be thing of these two corpses while doing two of the hottest women in the world, well the answer is simple I was doing what all famous people do, mixing drugs and alcohol.
