    IT'S A FAKE.

    by robogeek.com

Dude, don't you read TrekMovie.com? (And can't you just, you know, tell?)

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:39 p.m. CST

    Nice

    by Vamp-AICNchat

    2nd?

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:40 p.m. CST

It's more an announcement than a teaser.

    by DerLanghaarige

There is seriously nothing teasing in it.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:44 p.m. CST

Do we get to see the monster?

    by tonagan

And are there little monsters (not to be confused with the Fred Savage/Howie Mandel film)?

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:45 p.m. CST

Wow, aintitcool has their own time machine...

    by Truecoat

They can go back in time and view fake trailers thinking they're still real!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:46 p.m. CST

I've never looked forward to a STAR TREK film before...

    by Vamp-AICNchat

...but I cannot wait to see this, although, I think the casting of Pegg is more a gimmick more than anything.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:49 p.m. CST

    Meh.

    by Darth Sticky

I'm finding it just about impossible to get excited about this.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:49 p.m. CST

And Nimoys voice is from Star Trek II

    by Lost Skeleton

    damn Harry...a little fact checking

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:52 p.m. CST

    Debunked.

    by 7pointedstar

The real teaser is supposed to be coming out near the end of January. This is just a well-made fan trailer. Very well-made. But still fake.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:52 p.m. CST

    whatever

    by reckni

Big deal, this movie will blow. Anyone wanna bet?

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:54 p.m. CST

    Stamped as fake

    by Obi-Have

Damn people! Don't ya guys read trekmovie.com?!? Oh, and love the trailer, although it's fake as hell. Brings back memories from '82. Hmmm...

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:55 p.m. CST

The guy who made it even fessed up

    by zacdilone

    Geez...not good.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:55 p.m. CST

And thus, AICN hits a new low...

    by emp

Harry fooled by Star Trek fan art.<p>But I'm not complaining. Soon we can read more cool answers from Sly, like "The spilling of mayo on Sylvester Stallone by the coward Richard Gere".

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 2:59 p.m. CST

The guy who made it even fessed up

    by zacdilone

    Geez...not good.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3 p.m. CST

    IN SEARCH OF....

    by captain_kirk

A BETTER VOICE OVER. Seriously, Nimoy is the wrong person for a VO. It comes off like planetarium/museum ride-type stuff, and is totally wrong for his character. Spock's voice makes more obvious Kirk's absence.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:01 p.m. CST

    Overlong, boring, unimaginative...

    by IAmJack'sUserID

    So obviously fake!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:02 p.m. CST

    Terrible

    by Heckles

Not only is this a fake, but it started circling the net days ago. Now AICN is even late on the bullshit. When it wasn't posted here I actually gave the site props.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:04 p.m. CST

    OMG! That was Amazing...

    by Orionsangels

    ly bad!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:05 p.m. CST

Harry says it is fake in the headline and intro

    by SkeletonParty

    please everyone just lighten up.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:06 p.m. CST

What did Harry say about it before he realized it was a fake?

    by IAmJack'sUserID

    I'd like to read it!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:15 p.m. CST

    NOT STAR TREK II VO

    by captain_kirk

Because, duh, he says --"no one has gone before"

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:24 p.m. CST

So now you admit it's fake?

    by DerLanghaarige

This is probably the funniest that one of you did since "Aquaf@g" (although not as funny as).

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:24 p.m. CST

    FAKE THOUGH IT MAY BE

    by mukhtabi

It holds all the promise and brilliance a star trek teaser SHOULD HAVE. Lord I hope this film is a step up from military Trek!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:27 p.m. CST

    I don't care if it's fake because

    by cornponious

it still makes my penis grow.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:28 p.m. CST

    SkeletonParty...

    by 7pointedstar

The headline was changed after about a dozen talkback posts telling Harry it was fake. Hence the quick "btw its fake" thrown in at the end of the article.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:30 p.m. CST

Didn't Harry see the real teaser with Cloverfield????

    by picardsucks

    Well...... we're waiting.....

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:42 p.m. CST

The real trailer won't look like this...

    by Desmondo

It will be cut like an Evan Almighty trailer with plenty of one-liners, a slow motion dodgeball sequence involving Tribbles, and a cameo by Will Ferell as a camp Klingon. It will finish with an extended gag where Pegg and Cho keep replicating beer, giggling and flirting with the computer.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:44 p.m. CST

so it's fake, I like it!

    by br1947

Let's just hope the real movie doesn't suck

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:45 p.m. CST

Harry, Did you see the REAL trailer at Cloverfield?

    by AllPowerfulWizardOfOz

If so what did you think? <BR> <BR> I've only asked you three times now lol.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:45 p.m. CST

Desmondo, I fear you are correct!

    by br1947

But I really, really hope you're wrong :-)

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 3:53 p.m. CST

    "BTW - It's Fake" - AICN Douchebags...

    by randie1313

...still calling it "JJ's Star Trek Fake Trailer" on the front page, ain't ya? You might want to take JJ off there since he didn't have anything to do with it. BTW - The whole rest of the Internet has been onto this, figured out it was fake and posted the details days ago. And you retarded cunts want us to think you've got the skinny on the script that no one else can get near? Ijits.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 5:12 p.m. CST

    conspiracy, that's 'cause...

    by randie1313

    ...you're an idiot.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 5:24 p.m. CST

So Harry edited the title and article

    by emp

after he realized it was fake, without admitting that he fucked up? What is this shit? I bet if we go back and look at the "Bruce will answer all your questions" articles, they've been changed to "Bruce will mysteriously infiltrate the talkbacks and answer a question or two, before realizing that he can't actually stand for the sucky movie he claims is as good or better than the first, and then vanish."

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 6:15 p.m. CST

The fanstuff is usually better than the movie

    by Pipple

I saw a transformers intro just like this once that totally kicks the movie's ass, too bad that guy's passion wasn't seen by the money hungry bay crew. This flick seems like it'll be the same, just a cash grab with lots of cool cgi thouh leonard's involvement could mean otherwise... sort of forgot he's in this.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 6:22 p.m. CST

    great job!

    by BUCK.STARBLASTER

maybe that guy should have directed the movie.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 6:35 p.m. CST

yes, a fake pieced from the movie series..

    by red1701

the voiceover is from the end of Star Trek III...the only time nimoy did the voiceover -the opening music is from "first contact" (can tell by the part in the opening credits that the letters turn "borg".) -the accompanying music is from the opening of "generations" with that bottle of champagne floating toward ncc-1701-b. my god i know too much crap about S.T.

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 7:15 p.m. CST

Harry you TOOL! Oh I mean Fool! No wait Tool might be right when

    by EvilDoeR

JJ will fuck up Star Trek without THE SHATNER in it! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JJ for not asking the SHAT to take one last trek with his pal Spock.. er Leonard Nimoy! Either way I'm not really looking foward to going backwards... Didn't work for Star Wars, and I think it will fail here. They should move foward into future Trek crews. How about a crew where Captain Benjamin Sisko from DS9 is the Captain? Now there is an Idea I can get behind! Always wanted to see more of Odo & Quark myself especially on the big screen!

  • Jan. 11, 2008, 9:03 p.m. CST

Real trailer has zero footage, zero dialogue

    by performingmonkey

There is a moving starfield (familiar music over this, NOT the same as the fake trailer) it slowly pans down to something that looks similar to classic Trek starbases (CG), we see a shadow on the side of the base growing bigger until it's obviously the silhouette of the Enterprise, THEN the beginning of the classic Trek theme is heard before black then the blue/gold symbol logo.

    puppets? and Darkhawke

    by Boborci

No puppets of mine on this board. I'm the only one one not in disguise. What possible use have I for puppets? Well. My Mom may be lurking, but I told her never to defend me. And Darkhawke: you have every reason to be fearful of us jackpot lotto winning noob tools, but I can also say with equal conviction that I you will find very little evidence of "pussing out" when all is said and done. You may still hate it, but it won't be from us not grabbing the bull square by the horns. And since the line "no one" and "no man" have not been recorded yet, your preference is noted (which is neither a confirmation nor a denial that we will use the famous phrase) . Come to think of it, we might want it to be something more catchy -- in the style of Melrose Place or the O.C........... Kidding. Relax. We didn't get called to the Bridge just to go awol when the Kobayahsi Maru is getting tough, when the shit's hitting the main deflector dish. We're not punting or bunting or folding. We're swinging for the trees, going for a hail mary on fourth down with only one inning left or half or quarter or whatever they're called -- and we're praying to Q that our aim is true, by lord.......... Mom, if you're still here, can you help me come up with some more inspirational sports metaphors?

Bad even for a fan made trailer ...

    by oatmeal2348

If you're going to fake a trailer at least give us a of something that we are already expecting (like the gold/blue background behind the logo). The worst offense is that this is just straight up boring! The best fan made trailer ever was the one for SW:AOTC which used clips of Hayden and Natalie randomly turning their heads from some of their other movies.

And even Gene R, to a sense, by doing away with TOS cast. While I appreciate many memorable Trek characters from all incarnations, TOS continuity should have never been shelved in place of NextGen, DS9, Voyager, and Enterprise. At least with this new story we're finally getting a Goddamned TOS story. JJ and Shat: talk to each other-- old Kirk needs a cameo!!!!!!!!

Msg. to Borky (get it? B. Orci?)

When writing for franchises that have years and years of canon, do you purposely piss on it or is it unintentional dribble on the toilet seat? Do you guys sit around drinking mojitos and say things like: "Oh man you know what would really piss off those lame-ass fanboys?! Let's make Optimus Prime a pink bicycle and Spock is from really from New Jersey!" I'm just curious.

    It's ok for fan work

    by veritasses

Spock's speech, while classic and cool as heck is inappropriate and wrong (and not just because it's from Khan). It's not Spock's film so he shouldn't be narrating. And "these are the continuing voyages" and "their on going mission" bits are clearly wrong. The plain, bare, dull, non-animated planets flying by gets repetitive. If they were doing the old "whizzing through space" shtick then different celestial bodies would've been far better. Plus the paths and speed which the planets take is unimaginative which reinforces the repetitive feel. I'm guessing they took those shots from a screensaver or something. The shot of the Enterprise is nice but way too short considering they really didn't show us anything up until that moment. The viewer needs to be rewarded with something more then that. Plus the music crescendoing is a bit much esp since it's done two more times immediately after with the text and logo. The font used for the text is nice and classic, but the lighting and textures used could use several more edits. The text flying is corny. A fade might've been better. Could've held a few seconds longer on the logo/date. Again though, a good effort for fan work probably with no budget and an iMac.

Do you guys sit around drinking mojitos and say things like: "Oh man you know what would really piss off those lame-ass fanboys?! Let's make Optimus Prime a pink bicycle and Spock is from really from New Jersey!" I'm just curious." Funny because Nimoy asked us the same question, which was interesting because I thought Spock was from New Jersey, so it was great to start getting the real story from the man himself..... but seriously, to answer your question, I'll quote a little piece from the NY Times: “Alex and Bob are both geeks and nongeeks at the same time,” said Damon Lindelof, a creator of the television series “Lost,” and a producer on the “Star Trek” prequel. “They can have a tremendous amount of respect for the source material, but they know that a studio is bringing them in because they can make it understandable to an audience that has no comprehension of that source material whatsoever. In the case of “Star Trek,” Mr. Lindelof said, the screenplay was well served by the push and pull between Mr. Orci, a die-hard fan of the original television show, movies and the syndicated spinoff “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” and Mr. Kurtzman, who gave up on the franchise after “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. “It’s like talking to a priest and a casual churchgoer about Catholicism,” Mr. Lindelof said. “The story is being cooked up by someone who is aware of every shred of arcane Trekkery, and someone who isn’t hampered by decades of canon.”

If *I* saw that before Cloverfield...

    by Lost_Horizon

I would hope that Cloverfield was going to be REALLY, REALLY good to compensate for such an amateurish Trek trailer that didn't show me anything. Don't misunderstand me, I'm sure he went to a lot of trouble, and it's got some nice qualities, but, not for a second, did I think that was JJ's trailer. Bob, can you comment on the degree to which this film attempts to put the magic back into space exploration? I mean, that's what's great about the original series, and, especially the much maligned (and underappreciated) Motion Picture. You get the sense that exploring the galaxy is not only an adventure, but a privilege and somewhat of a miracle. Like the pioneer age of aviation. In TMP, Kirk's not only excited to be back on the Enterprise, he's thrilled to get back to space. I think that "thrill" aspect has been sorely neglected in modern Trek. Space is just "the office" now. Background noise. Ho-hum. Hopefully, going back to the beginning will help to spark some wonder again. As for canon, what the nerds always neglect to mention is that Trek is replete with contradictions and inconsistencies already, so *what* canon? The saddest part of Trek is that it has been a floating turd for so long, that nitpicking is all the fans have left to focus on. Make a great (hell, even a GOOD) film, and 90% of the whining will disappear. Right now, Trek fandom is like Jack Nicholson at the beginning of As Good as it Gets: bitter, grumpy, lonely bigots, ready to throw your dog down a laundry chute. Give them an enjoyable Trek film, and it'll have the same effect as Nicholson getting some of that nice, blonde, single mom Helen Hunt pussy. They'll mellow out, remember their manners, and maybe enjoy life a bit. Or not.

    by The Founder

I've got no problem with Trek, but the 60's look is dated by today's sci-fi standards. The truth is that Trek needs to be totally reimagined to become appeal to a new generation but at the same time make the old fans happy, but then again the old fans by their lonsome isn't enough to keep Trek afloat. It needs to appeal to the mainstream. Well good luck to Abrams and his crew.

I was not a fan of Star Trek until...

    by ccchhhrrriiisssm

...I watched WRATH OF KHAN as a child. I remember being genuinely moved by the film (even as immature as I was). I later enjoyed Star Trek 3, 4, 6, First Contact very much. I enjoyed The Motion Picture and GENERATIONS to a far lesser extent (even if both had a great story and infinite possibilities, but poor direction and a script that took itself far too seriously). But I have never been much of a fan of the Original Series (it is just too cheesy to me). The Next Generation was okay, but I never followed it religiously either. And I was totally lost to the later Trek incarnations. I do hope that this film brings back the philisophical imagination of WRATH OF KHAN. It is not only the classic by which all other TREK is judged, but a film by which all other SciFi is weighed. I am impressed by all parties involved with this film. In the words of Kirk (in Trek 3), "My friends -- the great experiment." This film IS an experiment about what would happen with a dead franchise if you poor great talent, direction, writing and lots of $$$. I hope the experiment works.

    darkhawke -- I genuinely appreciate

    by Boborci

YOUR willingness to engage in a good discussion and I completely understand where your initial argument about "pussing out:" is coming from. As far as confirming or denying Kirk's specific actions, let met just say how much I would love to answer directly -- however, to do so would set us up for having to deny every false story that comes along OR confirm a leak through our silence. A catch-22. A no win scenario, if you will. I will say this. Damon and I know our canon, and any deviations from canon (which is neither a confirmation nor a denial that we are deviating from canon) will not be the result of mere ignorance of the meaning of Star Trek. Abandon all hope all ye who hope to discredit our efforts through ignorance of Star Trek. We did our homework. You may not like our extrapolation of Star Trek, but you will not be able to attribute your dislike to our ignorance or reverence for Star Trek. This is all a long winded way of saying that I understand, even through your few yet articulate words, what it is that you see in Trek. And we agree. And your concerns are and have been on our minds. They are in the sauce that we have cooked up. I think you will be able to taste these elements, even if you think we have deviated in the letter or spirit of the law. As far as your concern that we are making this for a mass audience -- I will plead guilty. But not for the reasons you imagine. We have said repeatedly that this movie is, in a way, two movies in one. If you are a die hard fan who knows everything, YOUR KNOWLEDGE WILL BE REWARDED and paid off in the film, because you will pick up on things that only an expert would know. However, if you are new, and have never seen Trek or don't like Sci-fi in general, you will see a different movie -- one that introduces you to Star Trek and Sci-Fi. I do not believe that these goals are mutually exclusive with the goal of making Trek smart (as it always was), relevant to the world (as it always was at its best), and kicking serious ass. Wish I could be more specific, and we will be as Zero hour approaches. I appreciate your time.

There are two ways of approaching this franchise:

    by rbatty024

the first option is to let it die. After a handful of series and eleven movies maybe it's just time to let it go. I'm a big Trek fan, but after the last movie and the last two series I can see the wisdom in this move. The second option is to try and broaden the audience. Obviously this is what they're trying to do. Too often broadening the audience means dumbing down the material. I think this is why people are so up in arms. If you dumb down the material then you lose what Trek is all about. At that point you might as well have let it die. Of course, by making it a prequel and using well known characters they also have the opportunity of creating an unintimidating entry point to the franchise. I think everyone hopes this is the direction they're taking. Of course, I can understand the sense of trepidation on boards like this.

  • Jan. 13, 2008, 11:43 a.m. CST

Leave the boards to fans, please

    by matineer

Having screenwriters on here does nothing but steer half the posters into genuflecting and fawning. If you're a big writer at least post anonymously like the other (probably) award winners trolling these boards. As for Star Trek, saying how great it is continually is pointless. Let the work speak for itself. My two dents.

    Writing a ST "Origins" movie

    by veritasses

is a tough task. Trek has a huge, decades long, global following and an incredibly vast, rich, detailed universe that the fans understand better then the creators. They have technical manuals, books about alien anatomy, TV shows about the Science of Trek, and people who speak the language of a completely made up race. Nerds being nerds (yes, I count myself as one) are hard to please in general and Trek (and SW nerds) might be the toughest critics among us. I have to give some kudos to anyone who even tries to write something that's going to please the fans. Even if it doesn't "fit" perfectly into the Trek universe though, I do have faith that Abrams will, at the very least, give us a very entertaining movie.

Yes, a NO LOOK flipside low-five, able to be performed only by the greatest fivers. The first time it was completely spontaneous and looked extremely cool in front of everyone at work. If you're the real Orci..

    by vadakinX

Then I have to ask, how in God's name ca you get away with writing Transformers, with it's many plotholes and inconsistencies, get the Trek job on the back of that piece of crap script that needed a major rewrite (still can't believe Spielberg OK'd it), while I'm stuck writing independant low-budget dramas for stuck up "artistic" directors, with absolutely no chance of breaking into Hollywood? <p> What makes you better than me? I read that Transformers script, and then I looked at my own treatment (that I had done in my spare time with no intention of submitting) for a TF trilogy, and I just couldn't see what made yours so great that Spielberg gave it the greenlight. It had numerous plotholes as I've mentioned already, and story was sacrificed in favour of action, with the title characters being pushed into the background, and that was just the script, that was before Bay decided to blow more stuff up. <p> So what makes you better than me or a thousand other guys who have read your scripts and realised that what we were doing was equal, and in a lot of cases, better than your work. <p> Now I don't like criticising fellow writers, so maybe it's just frustration coming out here, and I'm certainly willing to give Trek a chance. But the Transformers script was certainly below par. It may just be a toy robot movie but source material is no excuse for bad storytelling, and I'm sre you'd agree. <p> Having said that...can you give me a job? :P I'm actually working on something right now, something big I'm hoping to give to Warner Brothers once the strike is over. <p> Any advice? I can't really go into what the project is yet, because Warners own the property I'm writing for and talking about it now could lead to some complications, especially with the strike and all. <p> I'm not based in the US, which could prove to be a big problem in submitting, though it does mean that I'm not bound by any WGA rules preventing me from writing (though I obviously wouldn't submit until after the strike, at which time I'd seek to join the WGA. The last thing I want is to be blacklisted for working as a scab). <p> So if you are the real Orci, any advice on breaking in to Hollywood would be appreciated...obviously I need to be a good writer...though if Dougherty and Harris can get the Superman job, standards wouldn't appear to be that high.

You guys are so predictible. It'd be more shocking at this point if you DIDN'T instantly complain every time one of these kinds of movies come out. I can't wait to see this. I have never been a Trekkie but I'd watch Zachary Quinto watch paint dry. And I have faith in JJ Abrams. He obviously has passion for the project. It's going to rock and all of you are going to eat your snobby words, just watch. I'll be the one over here saying "I told you so".

Yawn. That was total crap. At least the Spiderman 3 fake trailer employed a little rotoscoping and creativity. Wow, were flying by Jupiter... zzzzzzzzzzzz.

You said, "Even Bob Orci will tell you if you're a fan you'll probably be disppointed or hacked off at this new iteration. And he doesn't care. Why? Because you don't matter." I NEVER SAID THAT NOR DO I BELIEVE THAT.

Was "Hey, we are gonna have a hellacious uberbattle with the Decepticons over this thing which will feature giant battling robots mauling each other with advanced weaponry, airstrikes and the liberal use of heavy munitions...let's take it, say, to a crowded population center."

    Nice... I guess

    by jorson28

Though, again, obviously fake because I seriously doubt ALL those actors' names will be listed on any single trailer. Also,I doubt they'd use Dennis McCarthy's "Star Trek Generations" music, though it was kind of a nice touch. I wonder if they'll show Captain Pike getting injured and paralyzed. Of course, it wouldn't be consistent with canon because Kirk didn't know about it until after the fact, but then, how much of Trek has ever been consistent? There... I've officially said absolutely nothing and wasted somebody's time. I've met my quota for the day.

    Oh WAH

    by Saerie

It's impossible to please old school fanboys of Star Trek, X-Men, or any other huge franchise, so when people make these kinds of movies, they'd be best off not to even pay attention to the message boards at all. I mean, seriously. Y'all are so predictible it's almost embarrassing at this point. 1. Someone decides to remake some old geek-movie (or TV show). 2. Before even seeing a script or hearing about casting, fanboys starting bitching about how awful it's going to be. Because god forbid you just wait and see, right? 3. Negativity about the project spreads like wildfire across all of the big message boards, usually starting at AICN. 4. The film/tv creators go on record stating that they're fans too, and they're trying to stay as close to the material as they can while updating it and drawing new fans in. 5. The movie premieres and fanboys either geek all over it or hate it, it's about 50/50. Wash, rinse, repeat. Don't you guys ever get bored of this? Seriously. What has JJ Abrams ever screwed up enough to make you think he can't handle a Star Trek movie? And is there anything he *could* do to make you happy? Seriously, think about it. I doubt you have an answer.

    Oh, and

    by Saerie

To the person who ragged on season 2 of Heroes: I'm not saying it was great. But ZQ was great with the material he was given, and he was phenomenal in Season 1. The guy has serious depth and can do comedy as well as drama, and do both of them remarkably well. He'll prove himself with this film, mark my words. He's *really* something special.
