Cool News
Bruce Banner's got the horse juice! It's time to take away his gold medal!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Universal put out their 08 preview and Harry nabbed the DEATHRACE remake still and I have a photo of Ed Norton holding up the comic book equivalent of steroids. Yep, I think of the two movies this one stands the better chance of not making me wish I was drinking cooled vomit for 2 hours instead of sitting in the theater and being eyeball raped.
Ed Norton is a great choice for Banner and I love the look so far. What do you folks think?

...I liked the Ang Lee movie enough that this one is gonna feel a little like cheating on my girlfriend..... very wrong, but addictive....not that i ever have or will!
-
and hulk sucked so of course sequal was expected. they should have got rhino from the WWE or Goldberg or someone cheap as Hulk 2 will suck eggs
oh and lame little approval seeking wiener fuks who winge about comic book adaptions remember - films are to entertain -
norton is the man.
hulk smash. -
A guy holding up a vial. THAT a fine movie makes. When we are getting real insider scoop of this?
-
WILL RULE ALL.
-
spoiler alert!
HE IMAGINED THAT HE WAS A BIG GREEN MONSTER! -
have the same wardrobe person. Look at the IM ad on the right. Must have been a sale on wife beaters at Ross.
-
Stupid, stupid move on his part.
-
...I look like Brad Pitt and I blow up buildings.
-
I don't get why no one here liked the Ang Lee one. It was seriously the only time I've every felt the Hulk had any credibility as a story, and Bana is fucking perfect. This will prob be more fun, easier on the brain, and more lucrative, but it will NOT be as good as the Ang Lee one
-
Him and Tim Roth, are criminally under used and pretty decent actors. I know as of late, the two have seen a mild resurgence in their careers, but as far as ability is concerned, they should both have much larger resumes.
-
I can see Norton being kick ass in this. Just so there are some Fight Club-type conversations between Bruce and Hulk.
-
loves it
-
But then, it could also be an unadulterated dookiefest.
-
Well?
-
First off, I actually liked the first one. It dealt with emotional/psychological issues, and was "deeper" than most comic-based flicks. The desert scene was fantastic, and the mutated dogs were actually not asstastic like I thought they would be. That being said, it felt waaay too long - the fault of poor pacing, and it badly needed some editing/chopping. The Nolte turning into a mushroom bit was super-gay (as well as the preceding bits). The movie should have been about Super-Absorbing Man, and that's it. Which brings me to my next point/question...Why do we always have to have characters fighting similarly "equipped" nemesi? Your hero huge? Have him fight huge guy. Your hero have metal claws? Have him fight metal finger girl. I know it's the classic comic book formula, but let's try and mix it up. That's my initial problem with this [version of] flick (so far).
-
When it's a picture that could be from any of Norton's films, it seems kind of... let's call it lame.
-
marvel get's their balls back with this one.
-
box office poison.
-
would you negative fucks be happy? Christ. If this site *didn't* post this pic, there's be a dozen dicks emailing Harry that every other site posted it and he didn't. If you're underwhelmed by the pic, move on. You don't have to comment on every story.
-
Norton is going to be a badass Banner. BOOO WAAA
-
made him his skinhead character from American History X and then let him Hulk out
-
Fuck you
-
Ang Lee's hulk wasn't deep or intellectual it just thought it was. it was actually a train wreck. Ang as good a director as he is didn't get it. you can't have a character that starts out with no believable conflict. the tv show got it right. hopefully this redo will be a long the same lines. banner is not a hunk , never has been , again you have to adapt characters its just not interesting to slap them up on screen and watch them like a cartoon. comics can do things in broad strokes. movies shouldnt.there was plenty of material to draw from , frankenstein , dr jekyl and mr hyde. for some reason ang thought he was doing a greek tragedy
-
"pink or blue.. pink or blue..."I hope this is better, please let it be better... so we can have an awesome Ultimates movie with Downey as Iron Man
-
No steroids, no 'super serum', no magic liquid bullshit. Nuke that fucker HARD and give us the Hulk we WANT GODAMNIT!!
-
...is you no talk about Hulk!
-
I have always appreciated Norton's work, and I'm really looking forward to seeing him as Banner.
Besides, anything would be better that the last HULK. It flat out sucked. I'm just saying... -
up on the screen in this one. Christ that was obnoxious. And no bunny-rabbit Hulk.
-
Jessica Alba's engaged." http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22411536/. Would've been nice if she reversed that order; engaged, married, then preggers. :)
-
I just realised the twist in the story. These pictures are taken AFTER he transforms. That's right - Norton IS The Hulk. And Bruce Banner is probably being played by someone like McLovin. This is far out!
-
Man, the budget for the ultimates movie is going to have to be HUGE just to pay the actor's salaries, let alone the cgi effects etc..
-
This whole recasting business after the first Hulk movie still wierds me out. Did Bana-Banner get hit by a truck and need massive facial reconstructive surgery or something?
-
Rhyno is a TNA superstar...and he looks nothing like the Hulk. Brock Lesnar on the other hand...
-
Here's a hi-res version of this picture: http://www.superherohype.com/imageGallery/Hulk/The_Incredible_Hulk/The_Movie/Movie_Stills/large/hr_Movie_Stills_1.jpg followed by a hi-res version of the 2nd pic. of Banner strapped into the gamma rays generating machine: http://www.superherohype.com/imageGallery/Hulk/The_Incredible_Hulk/The_Movie/Movie_Stills/large/hr_Movie_Stills_2.jpg Sorry for the long URL's. -
get fucking real, it was a well intentioned idea to put a director not familiar with the genre in to add something interesting. It was a nice idea that failed horribly.
-
that can be done with the character? Boring as it was...
Hulk comics aren't exactly HUGE sellers, nor are the stories as involved as are X-men etc...
I guess what I'm saying is do we really NEED another Hulk movie? Is there really that much material to work with? -
You don't want to make him Ang'lee. Ah-HAHAHA!.. ah-ha..ha..
Also: "Give us the hulk we want!!" Oh you mean the green one with stretchy pants? Cause they did, and he looked exactly like what you'd expect him to look like --stupid.
-
Thanks for the still, Quint. I just saw it myself and came here to see the reaction. I agree; I think Edward Norton looks really good as Banner. Though I'm one of the few I think that enjoyed the first "Hulk." What? ... But, have you also seen this: http://tinyurl.com/23y7mq ... it was posted along with the close-up, and I don't know what's going on but it looks like science!
-
Hmmmmmmmmm.
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Because it goes over your dense skull? So do you say then that every film Ang Lee makes i.e. CTHD or Mt. Brokeback is equally pretentious? Or maybe he just made another (somewhat) complex Ang Lee film, immature fanboys be damned? (Which admittedly was not a good financial move, as intellectualism and potential billion dollar movie franchises simply do not mix) I try to be above such pettiness, but it bothers me when people call something pretentious just because they don't get it...
-
I'm all for ed. He's a top notch actor, and no doubt be farked off with the hoards of comic book geeks that will now follow him in purple pants
-
I just posted that second photo. I didn't know you had posted. Disregard mine, folks. re: Ang Lee's "Hulk." I'm very glad to see others enjoyed it. When I first saw it, having not read anything, I was really happy with the interpretation. And the ending made me hopeful we'd see the next stage in Bruce Banner's evolution, but I guess that won't be happening. I still find it so strange that they would do this, so fast upon the heels of the last. But, looks like. Edward Norton does rock. As does Tim Roth!
-
World War Hulk is good. But there's also the grey hulk Mr. Fixit stuff, the crossroads stuff, the leader stuff, The hulk story has more layers than most superhero epics. By the way have you guys seen this other image from the film?
http://www.superherohype.com/imageGallery/Hulk/The_Incredible_Hulk/The_Movie/Movie_Stills/Movie_Stills_2.jpg
Looks like they were really serious when they said that they were influenced by the TV Show. -
I only asked because from what I remember that slimy hack Avi Arad said it was going to be because the first one didn't make enough money.
-
nothing in Ang Lee's Hulk went over anyone's head. Like a lot of Lee's movies, the melodramatic performances screamed "FEEL SOMETHING!" to the audience, although with a mediocre CGI HULK, came off as kind of silly. All the attempts at heavy drama, juxtaposed with the wildly hopping Hulk, the electric Nick Nolte and the FUCKING COMIC PANELS and thought bubbles literally drawn on the screen, anyone who could claim any of that could go over anyone's head is a moron.</p?
-
coincidentally I hadn't watched Hulk in awhile and took the chance to do it a few days ago. I think it's a good movie but it's unnecessarily complicated. Take out the Nick Nolte character and the movie flows a lot more smoothly. Irregardless, I was wondering when this movie's going to get more press. We've already had two Dark Knight Trailers, an Iron Man trailer, as well as something from every major film coming out in summer of '08. This on the other hand seems to have a huge shadow over it. That or they're still filming it which would mean a rushed post-production reminiscent of X3.
-
talk about green hits . . .
BTW-I've got my fingers crossed for this here piece. -
Looks like something taken straight from the Bill Bixby TV show. That's a good sign to me.
-
That is a very good sign. Dare we say that it was better than the comic at times. In fact the comic book was enfluenced by it at the time, turning Banner into a homeless drifter.
-
there should be no confusion
-
Oh I got it, I just didn't think it was an incredibly smart film but it's pacing and tone sure tried hard to convince you other-wise.
-
Nick Fury, you're the best single serving superhero I've met.
-
FIGHT CLUB ULTIMATE MAYHEM!!!
-
Lets face it- Bana wasn't bad and I'm sure Norton will be good, but come on if the story and the action aren't there who gives a fuck?
-
Not me, Ed Norton...just so were clear on this....
-
brock would be great. I havent seen wrestling for a few years so remember rhino from WWE.
I think Goldberg -
Let's see some creature pics. Like yesterday.
-
And his deep psychological comic book film for the kids!
-
wtf is this supposed to indicate?? That he likes wife-beaters?
-
not cool. not cool man.
-
Nicks parts. (other poster is right about that)
but still keep the dogs.
also, just end the movie with a cut from San Fran to Brasil. -
Oh, it's a Hulk movie so it probably will do. Okay everyone, move along to the next post.
-
Not ONE, but TWO? He is quite the man. What, did he borrow them from Tony Stark's closet? This reminds me of the Iron Man promo shot with Downey in the wife beater with the repulsor on his arm.
-
...and walking out of the theatre I saw on wall with five movie posters, three of the "coming soons" were for Rambo, Batman, and Indiana Jones. I was reminded, "there may be hope in 2008 after all."

Those multi-panels in Ang's Hulk weren't comic book panels but..
by uncle bobo
actually represented alternate points of view, different ways of seeing things. Alternate realities, kind of what the Hulk is. If anyone can stand to go back and watch any of the multi-panel scenes, you'll see it's not telling the story sequentially like a comic book, one action after another, and it's not a cell phone conversation a la "24". Those multiple panels are showing multiple angles of the same thing, the same action, or subject. For instance, in one multi-panel scene with Glenn Talbot, we see him exiting a room from like three different angles. This is just a cinematical representation of Ang Lee's theme of alternate realities, like the Hulk, or Bruce Banner's other life. And it's an example of how the film went over everybody's heads who simply decried it as Ang Lee's lame attempt to actually make the film look like a comic book. Do you honestly think Ang Lee is that stupid?
-
Why the anger there champ? If there weren't people who commented on every single little factoid here, well, what would people have to complain about if there was no one complaining about anything? Whew, my thought box hurts. You crazy with your bad self. I will change my statement: the picture is as pointless as it is pointful.
-
...that watch is going to break when he changes? AARRGHH! Hulk smash another WATCH!! NOT AGAIN!!!
And does this mean the new Hulk will sport a goatee? Hmmm. Very metrosexuhulk. -
i have faith it will forever wipe away the images of that Hulk-poodle mess.
-
what the f'uck?? Is Bruce on hormone therapy to quell his rage???
-
I think I'd prefer to watch a crappy movie, myself.
-
who LIKED the Ang Lee Hulk. I enjoyed myself in the theater. I liked the story, and loved Lee's portrayal of the Hulk. There was rage, and the fact that the more angry he became the bigger and stronger it made him. This 're-introduction' annoys me the same way that the Superman sequel annoys me. UNNECESSARY.
-
Apparently, though, Tim Roth isn't talented enough to do a Russian accent on his own so he asked the studio to pay for a dialect coach. Big surprise, they refused so now Emil Blonsky is probably just some bloke from down the pub...

Bruce Banner was mentioned prominently in the Mitchell Report!
by mrmysteryguest
The ultimate steroid freak! :)
-
And if it is a word, it's a fucking stupid word, so don't say it. Just say (or type, in this case) "regardless".
-
I was a little confused when it first came out because it was so different from the rest of the comic-movie crowd, but in retrospect it's pretty great and I now own it in High-Def.
-
I thought Lee's Hulk was pretty decent myself, except for the wierd freudian "Daddy hates me and killed my mommmy" BS. The stuff about Banner's father didn't come into the comic until really recently, like the last 10 years. Imagine if they had saddled the first X-men movie with the Age of Apocalypse storyline . That's advanced shit. Don't expect first-time audiences and casual superhero fans to buy into that. Hulk to most people is a good-natured seventies drifter type guy who periodically turned into Lou Ferrigno. For that matter, did anybody else see First Blood and notice the similarities between Rambo and 70's TV hulk?(drifter, accompanied by somber music, turns into a killing machine when threatened?) Veebeeyes: Irregardless is a stupid word. I would like to add to that the word "addicting" when used in place of "addictive". That's raw stupid.
-
"Irregardless" isn't a word - it's a non-word, used by 'tards trying to sound smart (for a better explanation, see "at this point in time").
-
...and it rolls off the tongue smoother. Count me in the "irregardless" camp.
-

I hope this Hulk isn't used as some social metaphor for steroids
by uncle bobo
...cuz that would be very lame. I could see that happening though, especially with this picture. Such a metaphor should and must be saved for the Captain America movie.
-
He looks awesome. Lot more natural and lot less fabricated-looking than Eric Bana ever did. Face it, Bana just looked like some gap model. Norton looks like a unique type of dude.
-
Norton seems like an even better choice. The Hulk, to me is the greatest comic book hero/antihero. please let this movie bo good. Lee's Hulk was silly and took itself too seriously. Hulk dogs and absorbing man for villans? Come on!! The Abomination should be cool, but the Leader or Modok would make a better villan. Brains vs Brawn.
-
Say what you want about that movie...but that whole sequence from the desert base to San Fran was awesome, Hulk action and still holds up as one of the best comic book movie action scenes around.
-
He is one hot mofo in this photo. I will definitely be there on opening day.
-
A much better image evoking the original TV series
-
Nice.
-
...he just looks like Ed Norton and will probably just play it that way. Hoped he would take a risk and play it "nerdy" with glasses, lank hair and very shy/socially awkward mannerisms... looks too cool/confident to be Banner (same as in Lee's version)
-
looking forward to this, the casting is smart and could deliver something huge. if this fails, it'll be from the script or direction.
-
Juicey!
-
Ultimates was a brilliant re-invention of some heros who needed it, from the helmet-mask of Captain America(with a gun, finally) to the Freddie Prinze Jr. hating Hulk. Looks like this movie was influenced by it, and Ed Norton's involvement means if it sucks I'll be shocked.
-
kismet.
-
In the other picture they released, at least they did not hang x-rays upside down. Like they did in FF2. Proof this will be a thinking man's comic book movie.
-
Dec 28, 2007 7:41:27 AM CST
don't make hulk, ang lee.. you wouldn't like it, if its by ang l
by ironic_name
but really, ang's version was great, I've just been wanting to say that "anglee" thing for a few years now.
-
damn cutoff!
-
That Norton is even doing this film.
-
must be cold in there.
-
(heh, heh) But seriously, if this flick looks really cool, then I'm most certainly a ticket holder.
-
why did they not post these ones instead much better!

Crispin Glover or Steve Buscemi would have owned this part.
by uncle stan
Bruce Banner is a milksop. He's not supposed to look all John Wayne. It's the one thing they got right on the television show. No one ever hesitated to kick Bill Bixby's ass because they knew they could. On the other hand one of the many, many reasons Michael Keaton didn't work as The Batman (besides an absence of acting skills) was that most guys could probably kick his midget ass. Batman shouldn't look like you could kick his ass. Bruce Banner should have to worry about chicks kicking his ass.
-
When will effects people figure out how to make living things that actually look like living things? It's been 15 years they've been working on this and all they've managed to achieve is "grimier".
-
it looks like Edward Norton in a wifebeater shirt..not sure how that says much about the film or anything else.
-
haha, yes hulk-poodles were the bomb and an hour into the movie was way too soon to see the title character.
-
as much as I love Norton, Stephen Colbert would have made a perfect Banner. You need geek and mild mannered glasses wearing guys...not rock hard abs already with a chisled chest and arms whilst filling out a wifebeater and making me hot...
Wait..that's too much info.
-
he's a local boy from Baltimore, which means he loves him some steamed crabs.
and anybody who loves him some steamed crabs is four stars in my book. If he wears his Orioles cap in this one, I might squeal in the theater.
hey look, thats a tie-in reference to the steroids comment. IM SO WITTY -
I'm all for a great Hulk movie, but are we really going to have to sit through the goddamned origin story yet again?I ask in seriousness--can someone tell me what is different about this movie, and how it will avoid being another ponderous angst-fest?I hope it does. I'm just short on details.
-
Just saw the little synopsis text on Superherohype. It still sounds like it'll waste too much time, but if the story really is action-packed and tied to the dilemma of Banner, that could be alright. And fighting with the Abomination could be great if done at a ridiculously epic scale.Geek topic: has Marvel changed things around over the years, or is the Abomination actually the strongest character in existence? I recall the Hulk holding that title due to the seemingly unlimited peak of his strength when tied to anger, but isn't the Abomination supposed to be a bit stronger? And who ever figured *this* would be the movie to co-star Norton and Tim Roth?
-
If you've read World War Hulk, the last issue is amazing. With Hulk and Sentry nearly killing each other. Sentry was actually one of the strongest guys around for awhile. They nearly destroy the planet.
It's freaking sweet and I doubt we'll ever see it in movie form cause it would cost a shit load of cash to make.
But anyway...Roth is a god. This SHOULD be good. -
you wouldn't like him when he's Anglee.
-
abomination has always looked like a roid rage version of the Creature from the black lagoon. I hope they update the look, make him seem more...you know, abominable.
-
I've been away from first-run comics for many years now; I mostly buy the Marvel Essentials collections these days, if that gives you some idea! But I'm glad to have a lead on some good recent stuff--it's hard to know where to start--so thanks.Good call on Colbert--he's a dead ringer for Steve Ditko's Bruce Banner!
-
of the early pic of Robert Downey Jr., to ease the fears of those who thought he was miscast as Iron Man?
-
Planet Hulk and World War Hulk are awesome. Get the hardback collection of Planet, it's beautiful stuff.
skimn that's very true. I wonder if that's the test now, if you can look good in a wifebeater you can play the next big superhero. Hmmm...wonder if they did that for Chiklis as The Thing. (shudder)
In other news, why hasn't AICN said anything about the new Heroes hardcover novel that just came out? I'm surprised since it's something to do as we have no more Season 2? Looks interesting. Tells us what happened with Hero and Charlie that we didn't get to see. -
Superherohype (or maybe Dark Horizons) put up a 2nd Hulk pic that looks that beginning of the tv show. I'm very happy they're going in that direction.
-
... then this one will actually look like a good movie! And if the Hulkl looks anything like the poster they did, then they will finally get it right. It looks more like the Dale K comic era before he went on to create PITT, and that era was a great look for the Hulk.. !!
-
"The Hulk's Not Here, Betty."
-
IT'S ED NORTON!!!!!! HOLDING A TEST TUBE!!!!!! WEARING A WIFE BEATER!!!!!! WOW!!!!!! Remember when AICN had actual spoilers?
-
= green "da ghay" men in tights. No more pretentious green-zit popping lake endings please. Seriously, if the Abomination isn't the Hulk's worst nightmare in this movie, and if some major city doesn't get razed, it truly will be "teh sux".
-
Don't make me talk about Fight Club, Fight Club makes me angry
-
lame
-
I guess I'm a moron or something. I was pretty impressed with big chunks of the film. I would take it over spideypants 1,2,3,etc. Not a perfect film by any stretch, but there aren't many comic hero adaptions that I would deem beautiful. There are parts of the Hulk that were so visually masterful that I think a guy who could just blow it off is one jaded, hard to please MFer who has lost the love of film. But it is cool to shit all over the film, I've just read too many confirmations of this to believe otherwise. Most of them just so damn witty too.
-
PLEASE let the origin be a nuclear weapon mishap. Don't "reinvent" it for no reason.
-
How do you deduce that from one picture, Mr Quint? Slow news day?
-
I loves me some Hulk.
-
My guess is this is an anti-hulk serum Banner has developed to avoid transforming into the hulk against his will.
-
Then again, he probably wouldn't be intently reading the label on a bottle of something he concocted. Maybe his eye line is going past it, can't be sure.
-
s probably some drugs to make him write a better script the day before the shoot. They'll need it.
-
He kept asking why the Hulk had to be green. Why can't he be a cool color like white??
-
The basic story is laid out...so are the characters...how hard is it to have the army testing a gamma bomb in secret and having banner get caught in the blast? Not "nanites" or a "gamma machine"! When you make a movie of a comic make the the comic, not your interpretation of what is, in your opinion, the best things from the comic to use. How much can a person change a story until it's not the original.....damn...
-
Lookin' forward to this. Hope its good.
-
Remember 'The Score'? Man that movie rocked.
Also, 'American History X' was awesome.
Norton is the coolest
Ang Lee was a poor choice
Vote Ron Paul in '08!
Go Pats!
image of the new hulk can be seen here http://www.darkhorizons.com/2008/hulk/gallery.php
Okay, thank you Nick -
it was a rip-off of The Fugitive.
-
but Norton would've made a better rebooted Daredevil.
-
he's not a natural or obvious choice. but he IS a good actor and he doesn't look completely wrong for the role (e.g., nic cage as superman). if the movie sucks, it won't be because of norton.
it'll be difficult for this movie NOT to improve upon giant poodles and a killer cloud of anger energy - which was apparently such a "brilliant" idea that they used it for RotSS too. -
