Fresh LOST Returns To ABC Next Month!!

Published at:  Dec 15, 2007 6:57:53 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

ABC will begin airing new fourth-season episodes of “Lost” Jan. 31.

Many speculated fresh “Lost” might remain lost until next fall in the event of a long strike. ABC's move to schedule "Lost" at midseason defies the preferences of showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, who did not think the last episode of “Lost” scripted before the writers’ strike made for the best of season finales.

Locke, Hurley, Kate, et al will be taking up regular residence away from Wednesday night for the first time. They’ll now be replacing the incorrigible Dr. McSteamy & Co. by inheriting the “Grey’s Anatomy” timeslot at 9 p.m. Thursday (where they are certain to crush NBC’s “Celebrity Apprentice”).

ABC’s new drama “Eli Stone,” from a bunch of the guys behind “Brothers & Sisters,” will follow at 10 p.m. Thursdays, replacing the Christopher Titus crapfest “Big Shots.” “Stone” is about a thirtysomething attorney (Jonny Lee Miller) who finds himself plagued with “visions” that take him in not-always-lawyerly directions.

"Lost's" old Wednesdays-At-10 timeslot will be taken over by "Cashmere Mafia."

James Hibberd at TV Week has “Lost” and other scheduling news here.

Now they can piss off their writers and their viewers as the same time. Seriously, more than any other show on television, LOST is a show that builds towards its season ending. To leave a season hanging on a non-ending is unforgivable. Fuck ABC and their mothers.

    by jor-el23

and will take it how they can get it. The reality is that all shows are going to suffer from backlash, not just Lost. Any second or third season shows still struggling a bit to find an audience (How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, Jericho etc...) are going to suffer because of this strike too. The whole thing is an f'ing nightmare but right now, I'll take any new TV I can get.

How huge the ratings are going to be for this? The only fresh returning show on TV that has a proven formula and is not reality.. This is a stroke of genius by ABC.. They are going to cash is with ratings and ad revenue big time for sure. Even the people who stopped watching LOST in season 2 are going to come back because there will be no returning big time shows like Heroes, Journeyman, Life, Grey's, Housewives, Bionic, ER, The Office, 30 Rock, Simpsons, etc... Jeez fellas!

ABC's well aware that they have the potential of royally pissing off viewers and creators alike by running half a season--but having a Thursday night timeslot, with the only competition being Trump and the Surreal Apprentice, is too tempting to give up.

Then we can sit and wait for Deadliest Catch to start around May.. I can handle that. People will understand they are not just fucking over the fans and that the strike is the reason there's no more than 8 eps. Wonder what that does for the remainder of the 3 shortened seasons they are planning....

I want all 16 episodes too, but this is better than waiting any more. It was already going to be a long wait.

I like how they make it appear than only 8 episodes will leave you hanging...

What the hell do you call the first 3 seasons? It's would be torture after 16 episodes too...

Give us what you've got. What else can we ask for besides ending this damn strike.

    by hamster_factor

The very reason they made us wait so long for season 4 was to avoid breaks and delays... now the question is: when will we ever get to see the conclusion of season 4? NEXT February?? then what about season 5? this has the potential for fucking the whole series IMO. One glimmer of hope in all of this: I heard the actors are contracted to follow through to the end of the series, regardless of how many more seasons it takes - if it takes an extra year they still have to stick around.

All that talk of pushing it back was giving me indigestion. I saw the "trailer" for LOST before ATONEMENT today and it only said "2008" and I actually audibly grumbled thinking that was meant to be indefinite just in case. Phew! Glad that crisis is over.

    by i hope you die

I'd avoided it because it sounds kind of stupid on paper. But you Lost fans are so goddamned annoying, always popping up in other Talkbacks and going on and on and on about how great Lost is and how everything else sucks. It was at times some of the best television I've ever watched. Okay! Happy now? At other times it was just good. The only time it sucked was when Michelle Rodriguez showed up and every time they focused on Charlie. I guess that won't be a problem anymore. So thank you annoying Lost fans. I'm glad it only has two more short seasons though. The first three took a lot of watching to get through.

    by inwosuxred

to blame the show runners for a bland "ending" and unfinished storylines. Nice that the Lost creatives fought to keep ABC from messing things up, won, and will still wind up with ABC messing things up. You gotta feel for other show runners who don't have clout with a proven cash-cow show and can't prevent networks from fucking their shows in the ass.

24 had 7-8 episodes done as well

by guy who got a headache and accidentally

They just wouldn't air them now like Lost is doing because it wouldn't make any sense. 24 is a hell of a lot harder to film, they filmed this year in DC, who the fuck knows what the weather will be like or whats changed by the time they can start filming again, on 24 everything has to look like it's happening in the same day, they might have to just start over from scratch when the strikes over.

Um...have to disagree with you on the whole "24 is harder to film" thing. Lost has way more locations (factoring the flashback/flash forward scenes), a bigger ensemble cast, lots more special effects in every episode...shoots in Hawaii (mostly outdoors in the elements)...with post production in LA. Shooting 24 would be a cake walk for the Lost guys. Hopefully, we'll get 8 new episodes running Jan 31st thru March...and 8 more next fall pending how the strike shakes down. I'm in the hatch where people want ANY new Lost NOW...instead of NO Lost til next fall. Yeah...it sucks they won't be ending in March with a kick ass cliff hanger...But it's likely we'll get a great "mid-season" opener next September. We can only hope.

I'm down with Thursday night, not an exciting night for me, especially with nothing else on at all. The Office then Lost? Hmm. But when Grey's comes back, they should move it to Mondays so when people are pissed at how shitty Heroes is, they can have Lost before or after to make it look that much better....flawless.

8 episodes is better than no episodes, so in my books, it rocks and I'm pumped.

No WAY will ABC air any "new" Lost episodes in the summer. The first Thursday in October would be the absolute earliest the show would resume...as the final 8 eps of Season Four have to make it thru the all important Nov. sweeps period. And...if we're lucky (the strike settles soon)...we may see it return in May 09 for Season Five.

What else has ABC got to battle Thursdays with? I think ABC sees this 8 ep Lost mini-season as a way to "test the waters" to see if the CSI juggernaut has any chinks in the armour....especially with all the turnabout and changes CSI is having to endure cast/story-wise. The only other thing ABC has in their back pocket is Dancing/Stars & Grey's...Although I would have liked to have seen a Pushing Daisies lead in to Lost on Wednesdays. Desperate Houswives is definetly showing it's age (no pun intended)...I think Lost is the only card ABC has to play on Thursdays...and this new "strike schedule" is a great opportunity to see what happens.

That's the way to make your viewers happy, right? As for NBC, if I never watch that network again, it will be too soon. Will you be next, ABC??

Basically Feb.sweeps is one of times when the networks can make basis for charging airtime to advertisers. With this strike, fewer new episodes to hold back for Febuary except in the case of LOST where ABC will be the prettiest girl at the prom in the sluttiest attire and she be knowin' it.After the Oceanic 8 are shown, they can charge more money to advertise on McStoopid etc,and LOST can be moved around the primetime schedule to cockblock whomever ABC chooses.

    How would "showing it's age"...

    by bob loblaw law blog

be a "pun" for Desperate Housewives?

Do you know what a "pun" is?

Now, if the show was called "Elderly Housewives," then to say the show was "showing it's age" would be... somewhat closer to being a pun. If the show were "Aged Housewives," you'd be right on target.
Or... just say that the show is "desperate for ratings." PUN!!

Yes...I know what a "pun" is...and if you take Eva Longoria out of the equation...you're left with 4 "old"...as in..."aged" Desperate Housewives. As Stewie & Brian Griffin so eloquently sang at this years Emmy's..."Brian: With hits like Desperate Housewives continuing to thrive/Stewie: Those ladies look senstional for being 65!"...Funny stuff. Look it up...it's on the YouTube. Hope now you "get" my "pun".

This is pretty good news for a number of reasons

    by freakemovie

Moving it to Thursday moves it away from the American Idol juggernaut and also out of the tricky 10pm spot. Ending it after 8 episodes is a necessary evil; if viewers understand the situation with the strike and everything, I think they'll be inclined to be a lot more forgiving than they were last year during the hiatus. Yeah, it'll suck stopping halfway through the season, but at least it's not the writers fault.

    by dapper swindler

Huh? You're upset because Lost will only be 8 episodes and you'd rather wait and see the full 16 straight? Psh, nuts to that! So episode 8 ends on a cliffhanger? And that bothers you? Have you even seen Lost before? Every episode ends on a cliffhanger!
And think about this. You want to watch this while you still can. Because by next fall, or 2009, you could be dead. Think about it. I'm not exactly sure how many people read these talkbacks. But at least one of you reading this sentence right now will be dead by next fall. So, how about we enjoy the show as much as we can while we're still breathing?

I'm not trying to say some bullshit about 24 being any better because it's "harder" to film, 24 is a worthless piece of shit in my eyes right now that has to prove itself when it comes back, and yeah Lost I'm sure is hard as hell to film in the jungle and everything, but I think on account of all the continuity and shit in 24, having to make the old shit they filmed MONTHS ago look like it took place just minutes before what they have to film now? I gotta say that sounds harder. A jungle isn't going to change dramatically on anyone. One thing I'm not clear on is were they actual shooting in D.C. or shooting in L.A. and saying it was D.C. It sure looked like D.C. from the pictures, less yellowish and smogish definitely.

    No Prob...Guy...Headache...Saves...World...

    by cheif brody

Yeah...24 may have been shooting some "establishing" scenes in DC just to get the Washington Monument, White House etc, in the background...then shoot the rest of the DC scenes on an LA soundstage. I just hate when there's only 3 hours left in the 24 hr day...and someone decides to hop on a plane and travel from LA to DC...and somehow they make it in 3 hours. I hope the President's ass is firmly planted in the Oval Office this season...and not in some underground bunker conveinently located in LA. The President (or one of his underlings) turning out to be "the bad guy" every season is seriously wearing thin. Just give me Jack...the Sack...and some bad ass terrorists for him to smack around, and leave the policy makers/evil bureaucrats out of it. Lost has some similar continuity problems of it own...as one episode generally constitutes one "day" on the island...so clothing, make up and scenery have to be watched carefully. I know I've spotted drastic slip ups in the fake wounds, scratches and scrapes the cast has to have applied from scene to scene. Not to mention, everytime a Lost flashback jumps from London, to Korea, to Iraq, to Tallahasse, to Sydney...the location scouts have to find an acceptable "double location" on the island...then the set dressers have to apply fake newspaper boxes, taxi/police car logos...and the CGI guys have to add in recognizable buildings in the background...erase mountains, etc. Which seems harder to me to film.

I believe Cuse and Lindeloff were not happy with the airing of the 8 episodes BECAUSE the 8th episode ISN'T much of a cliffhanger....as far as Lost "cliffhangers" go. There's no..."OMG" moment at the end of the episode that we've come to expect when the show finishes a season...or a mini-season. It won't end on Jack about to blow Ben's head off...when suddenly...a "STOP!" is heard...and Alvar Hanso steps out of the jungle. Black screen with LOST.

    Supernatural

    by my pretty pony

This is just what SN needs, more competition on Thursday nights from another one of the most popular shows on TV. I don't see The CW canceling it, though. I think only "Smallville" & "Top Model" get better ratings. All of their new shows and their Sun. & Mon. night lineups do much worse in the ratings. I kinda wish they'd move the show to a better time slot, but I don't think they will because none of their other shows would do any better. What they need is good advertising. Most people don't know about the show or that The CW even exists.

Stick it with CSI: let it get some mainstream exposure, and if it does well hopefully more people will seek it out. If it does really well, Moonves could snatch it up. Seriously folks, this is the best X-files-ish show since the X-files, and recently its been out X-filing X-files itself. Check it out.

No, I understand where you were going... I watch DH and I have the Family Guy: Live in Las Vegas album.
But, a pun is a play on words (e.g. the title "Desperate Housewives"). What you said wasn't a pun... it was a jab the perceived age of the women. Had you made a play on the title (i.e. the producers must be "desperate" for ratings), that'd be a "pun."
In any case, I was just being smarmy about your calling it a "pun" when it wasn't. It was still funny. No worries!

I'm for giving us the 8 as well.

    by darthcorleone

As much as I respect the wishes fo the storytellers, I'll accept the 8 and hope that somehow the scheduling can be tweaked so that the other 8 can be completed in time to give us all of season 5 in 2009 and all of season 6 in 2010. I'm not sure how logistically probable that is, but dragging it out until 2011 does not sound appealing. I'd of course prefer a great cliffhanger at episode 8, but I'll live. Just as long as they don't decide to adversely fuck with the ending of episode 8 via creative ending (akin to the recent Heroes ending but not exactly analogous), I think it's the best of a bad situation.

    by performingmonkey

Instead of just shooting the remaining 8 slated for season 4 they should push to make 6-7 more and either add those to season 4 to make up a full-length season OR keep those back for a between-seasons series, THEN shoot a full-length season 5 to finish the show.

    by turketron

Season 3 was damn good... yeah, the first 6 episodes (the "mini-season") blew, but when it returned from the break the show was top notch, except for "Stranger in a Strange Land" (the tattoo episode). I'm looking forward to the return of this show, but I'm not too excited about Thursday at 9... I would rather have it on Wednesday, but I can understand them trying to hide from the Idol juggernaut. Fuck that show by the way... and Lost gave us something to watch while the rest of the braindead population watched that trash on Wednesdays...

    by rbrog77

It's 3, 16 episode seasons, making a total of 6. Now if this new season only has the 8 episodes currently in the can, ABC may wait until fall to finish up S4. But the cast and producers are contracted for the 3 16 episode seasons.

As for Cane, i thought they did cancel that. Whether Richard Albert is coming back or not, I don't know.

I'll take 8 early as opposed to 16 god knows when. They need to get it out while people are still interested in following it. Besides aren't the actors' contracts up here pretty soon? If they wait until everyone's satisfied, we may not see a new episode until '09. Sucks that it's moving to Thursdays opposite Supernatural though. It's the only other show on TV worth watching. I'd rather they put it on at 8 and finally get Smallville taken off. I'm so sick of hearing geeks moon over that worthless pile of shit.
