I'm Batman.
-
Sweet.
-
I want it now!
-
interesting way to release the trailer.
-
The joker-ized web pages are the best viral marketing I've seen!
-
Is it ony going to be in front of the IMAX version this weekend, or will it stay for the duration of the run?
-
Heath, that is. I'll be all up in your theaters as the Joker. Why so serious?
-
when i farted, i pushed out my penis that was tucked under.
-
Cuz I'm a preecha in a black churchaahhh.
-
This is going to be AWESOME!!!!
-
I'm just waiting for the lengthy write up on the size of the various cod pieces the actors had on there costumes. Lord knows there were a lot of Cod piece stories for Batman and Robin in '97. (And that's actually, factually true. I saw the story in at least 3 places that Chris O'Donnell had a huge cod piece on his Robin suit, and an insulted and insecure Clooney insisted his had to be even bigger, even if it meant being stuffed with socks.)
-
...can't wait!
Nolan has proven himself worthy in everything he's touched - I can't see him screwing this gig up, either.
I still reckon David Bowie would've been a top Joker, though... -
Can't wait to see it in high-def on Sunday!
-
TDK is at least one of the very few sequels that keeps it's promises to fans. At the end of Batman Begins, Nolan practically steps onto the stage, looks straight into the camera, addresses each audience member by name, and says, "In the next one, I'm going to use the Joker and it's gonna be cool. Scout's honor." 2.5 years later, and what do we have? More Coolness and Joker-ness than we can handle. I didn't agree with everything Nolan did on Begins, but I gotta give him props for kept promises.
-
But I want to see the trailer and really like it. I can't believe I missed it. Silly Warner Brothers, pulling leaked trailers off of the internet, who do they think they are?
-
for about an hour, this is your new place.
-
Theres an addy in the correction under the letters in case no-one has spotted it....
-
All Hail The Joker !!
Got to see the Bank Heist, "no, I'm supposed to kill the bus driver" hahhahhahahhahahahah !!! -
Billy the Fish, you just blew my mind by suggesting Bowie as the Joker. Can you imagine a Dark Knight Returns movie with Powers Boothe as Bats and Bowie as the Clown Prince? Not that it would ever happen, but fun to imagine anyway.
-
That page links to 4 pages of The Gotham Times, but no giveaway video .... hmmmmmmmmm
-
and it's amazing to see how many positive converts there are in the talkbacks (only a few negative whiners, never happy with anything)...but like 6 threads today AICN? really?
ouhtta condense it down to one post. who cares if we lose all our talkback ranting. -
Has me wondering what it is about the plot that makes Bruce Wayne uncertain about what he's supposed to do? Um, didn't we learn that in the last movie? Stop the bad guy? What are all these qualms? I do like Nolan / Ledger's darker Joker. Rings truer than Nicholson's clown version. You couldn't repeat that in this day and age and expect to be taken seriously.
-
good stuff. and we can download it it for our very own come sunday. classy.
-
Bears repeating (remove space). Looks good. And Heath DOES NOT sound like Heath.

Good ol' Mike Markus. My hero. -
Thanks dude for the new link.. That movie looks so fucking cool.. I'm real excited for Joker now.
-
...before Warner Brothers buy every available dot com there is? Seriously, they're REALLY overdoing to whole viral marketing thing, there's got to be a least fifteen different URLs for Dark Knight stuff now. Honestly guys, it'd be a lot more interesting if it was all in the one place.
-
because there's no Imax footage online yet.
-
and dont be late. AMAZING trailer. i was surprised and blown away
-
Thanks for taking the link i posted 4 posts before and reposting it. I dont think we all would've figured out how to remove a space without you buddy. Thumbs up.

These guys are doing alot of the viral web marketing stuff, with non-profit urls even.

i'll hold judgement until the movie, but i'm really not liking the idea that batman is seen by many people.in the trailer theres like a room full of people looking at this idiot w/ a bat costume on.. i always thought of the bt as an urban legend
-
That YouDouche leads to .... NOTHING !!!! Hhahahahhahahah !!! The Joker Reigns !!!! Cesar Romero is laughing in his grave !! Hahhahhahahahhah Bats !!!!!!

and Rambo is coming in Jan!!!!

in the corner of the newspaper page, it posted the following link: http://www.thegothamtimes.com/ - which leads to a deadline about Batman. Check it out.

its been posted already, sorry y'all, just woke up.. got a bit excited when I saw it.- The Creepy Thin Man: Agree totally, 2008 will be a great year for a geek!, Sweeney Todd, Rambo, Cloverfield, The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Indy 4, Hulk 2, Hellboy 2, Indy 4, 2 Naria Films, Harry Potter 6, Speed Racer, Get Smart, Wall-E, Jumper, Horton, Babylon AD, Bond 22, New TREK.... its a great time to be alive.
-
A few of these could've been rolled together with updates. But, damn, AICN usually almost ignores Nolan's Batman, so a little AICN love for TDK is nice to see.
-
Dude, chill. I just did that becuase some people might not have known what you were linking to. There are a lot of times when people put up a link, I won't click becuase I'm at work and it may be a link to tubgirl, lemonparty, 2g1c, etc. Take all the props for posting it first becuase I really couldn't care less. I'm not like that.

As referring to marketing? When exactly did this term come about in this context and how do we stop it? I guess we can't, it's like a virus.
-
lol, www.youtubetubgirl.com... your comment doesn't even make any sense. You won't click it... yet you reposted the exact same URL so i guess you DID click it... regardless MrDagon, if you still haven't seen it the link that Brendon posted still works.

WB will be doing "customized phone calls" with the Joker the way they did with Snakes on a Plane. And "Why So Serious?" is about as stupid as "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"
-
He said I was his "Number One Guy!!"
-
maybe I'm just way behind the times. I haven't really stayed on top of the viral marketing game for this film.
-
and this fucking trailer rules!!!
-
I received a cake in the mail from the Joker. When I opened it a Watchman TV sprung out of it and the trailer started. Then the cake started laughing and a gun came out of the cake and shot my house up. I got shot too. I called 911 and was rushed to a hospital. When the surgeon pulled his mask down it was the Joker. He said go see Dark Knight July 18, 2008! bahahaha! Great viral marketing. Besides that amazing trailer!
-
Seriously...my chair is bolted down in front of my PC, I'm all strapped in, my eyes are taped open and when the trailer hits - I'll see it first. It's a lock.

Can't wait to see it FIN HIGH EDITION!Howard Shore's score is the best Batman score ever. Danny Elfman's is catchier, but it all sounds alike and way too cartoony, just like the movies of his buddy Tim.If The Dark Knight is a Fight Club Batman, will the 3rd movie be a Se7en Batman? That would be awesome.

Where are you guys going to see TDK trailer?

Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard did. But I agree, their score for Batman Begins is f'ing amazing, and it sounds like they're getting even better judging from the trailer music.

but a short trailer does not a Movie make...I'm reserving judgement until the end credits roll. Still not convinced about them screwing with DC canon.

So one would assume this trailer premiered today on I Am Legend...no? Can anyone confirm?
-
is definitely coming to an end soon. I'd bet that after this big slate of 2008 movies, followed by the few that are already in production for 2009, we won't see many more blockbusters like this. The market is oversaturated, and there's no way they can all be successful. Week after week these big movies are tanking at the box office. There's no way the studios will keep investing in such expensive flicks.
-
This is Nolan and Ledger's Joker, not fucking DC. It's not as though the canon is so legendary it can't be touched. He fell into some chemicals ffs and suddenly he looks like The Joker. Hmmm, I'd take what Nolan is doing over that ANY friggin day. Just think yourselves damned lucky he isn't having The Joker being responsible for Bruce's parents' deaths.
-
... this movie is going to be more badass than I ever thought it could be.
-
Wife who want revenge. Fear the Chocolate Flow....
-
and it was better. I saw it with I Am Legend (okay movie. Will Smith saves it.) I walked into another showing of I Am Legend just before the trailers began to play. Nolan is done one thing really well... tone. TDK should hold me over until Avatar comes out in DEC 09. Got pushed back again. lates.

....all day, every day, by the hour, on the hour. Let the fellating begin. Oh wait,.......... it already did. AICN's oncoming Dark Night blowjob onslaught for this movie does not portend well for its fortunes at the Box office. History has shown as that whenever Harry and Co, start fellating a movie like this, it usually underperforms like saggy bitch. Exhibit A, B and C.........Golden Compass, King Kong, Superstalker Returns, Domino,........should I go on?

I need this movie NOW!!! TDK will be the best movie of 08... I can't wait for Indy, Iron Man, Star Trek - HELL Hulk... but Batman will own!! that trailer has me so wet right now... I cannot imagine how damn good that movie is going to be...
-
attached to I Am Legend. Sooo good but its a sad state of affairs when Welcome home Roscoe Jenkins gets a better response. No indication of quality though.
-
That's what I'm thinking. He wanted to be caught to get close to someone or something. So his escape was preplaned, cause he sent himself in.
-
then he puts rachel dawes' head in box..HAHAHAAHAAA!but yeah, either he wants batman to find him, or maybe to kill gordon or crane.
-
sorry.
-
You can't end this one with Batman defeating the joker. Make everyone leave knowing Batman is dead. Cause more shock then Empire Strikes Back did. Show some balls.
-
and I have to give major props to Ledger - I could get into all the little details about the slight inflections, the body language (there are definitely some small reminders of Nicholson, but nothing like THAT), the straight sinister seriousness of what he's about...but I won't , even though I just did. I think he's got something VERY 'real' about the 'real' Joker going on , if you know what I mean - the "who gives a fuck" serial killer made all the more fucknuts by the fact that he's the only one laughing - the way the Joker SHOULD be represented. And yeah, what Mirajeff said about them needing to focus on The actual DARK KNIGHT for 'The Dark Knight'...I trust Nolan...but seriously - this is part of a larger opus, and a trailer is a trailer in the end, let the product end up speaking for itself. End patronizing talkback post.

I can't really tell it's Heath Ledger
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
No matter how much I squint or tilt it or whatever I just can't see any of these joker pictures as Mel Gibsons son in The Patriot. I can't hear him in his voice either, so I think about all the people who have been saying, "I don't see Joker I just see Heath Ledger" and I wonder if something is wrong with me or maybe I just haven't seen enough Heath Ledger movies or maybe their just idiots for thinking Crispin Glover would have been better or whatever. You'd think Crispin Glover would be a guy who'd you see more as Crispin Glover instead of Joker, no matter how much make up they put on him.
-
Dec 15, 2007 1:33:49 AM CST
conspiracy: Who cares about DC canon?
by guy who got a headache and accidentally
You really want bullshit like aliens and parallel universes in these movies? 50 different Robins and Batgirls and ace the bathound? The less stupid comic book shit the better if you ask me. Let's just worry about the Nolan canon, he seems to be doing fine so far, don't know about a batcycle but we'll see.
-
I don't know why they are waiting, until Sunday to release it online...Anyway, seeing "I am Legend" tomorrow, so it will be nice seeing the trailer on the big screen. Wonder if the IMAX 6 minute clip will EVER make it online...in some form...
-
sounds like the most fun I'll never have, stop lying you bragging bitch.
-
Right fucking on. I respect Crispin Glover as much as the next Back to the Future fan, but to keep pushing him as some kind of Batman movie savior (especially to this point..) is just pointless and lame. Firstly, they've already cast Heath Ledger as the Joker and secondly, Heath Ledger IS the Joker, I mean...c'mon!!!

It looks like a Fincher movie a la Fight Club and the Game and the Joker comes off as very Se7en John Doeish.
How did Gotham go from looking the way it did in Begins to this though?
Good trailer....yet i still woulda preferred a Killing Joke looking Joker and storyline. You could have made him psychopathic and it still would have worked in a Killing Joke setting -
i guess now mariah carey should've wished that for glitter, huh?
-
...but this trailer was worth the ticket price.

http://atasteforthetheatrical.com/
If you click on the "gotham times" web site addie in the upper right, it goes to a four page Gotham Newspaper--filled with articles "setting the scene" as it were. If you click on the upper left, the paper "tears" and you get a "hahahahah" link, which goes to a "jokerfied" version of the same 4 page paper. -
I was impressed with the trailer but hate to have explain to my future kids why I stood by whilst Will Smith kept making movies in 2007. I AM AN ENABLER!

read Sinestro Corps War and come back to me dumb cunt.

Batman is still a character who dresses up as a rubber bat, takes in an orphaned boy, dresses him up in a pair of hot pants and called him Robin!
There will never be a great Batman movie, simply because the whole subject matter is so ridiculous to start with!
Man dressed in a rubber suit.
That said, I will go an watch this film for the special fx...
Batman Begins was as silly as all the other Batman films, the truest vision of Batman was the 60's tv show, that one was honest! -
Dumbass, go read the New York Times, let us geeks alone.
-
Does that mean sequel will be THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS?
-
Benicio de Toro's Jackie-Boy from Sin City?
-
the only reason you think it's silly is because you see it from the point of view of a guy that lives in a world where comics exist and you know that batman is a superhero. put yourself in the Begins world. No superhero comic books. Criminals being assaulted by a guy dressed like a Bat who can fight, he swarms from the shadows and they don't know if he's myth or not, just that he can take anyone on, he's unstoppable and he scares them when they see him. That's not silly. That's wholy possible given the circumstances were different. I say you are not very intelligent.
-
Well done, sir.
-
Batman is generally pretty silly. Just like the majority of comic books and other *graphic novels*. I think the point is that the concept can/could be done in a serious, more sophisticated way. I didn't bother seeing Batman Begins, so I can't comment on whether that's the case in that movie, but there's no denying that a non-ridiculous batman movie would have to be selective and probably innovative about what aspects of the batman property were used.
-
Dennis O'Neil for getting rid of the Adam West Batman. He paved the way for Miller. Anyway, Burton had a larger role in changing the general public's view of Batman, you know the non-comic book reading populace. Remember, there was actually a petition before the Batman movie came out to cast Adam West as Batman again.
I'm actually think the old Adam West movie, in its time and place, was pretty funny. The problem was it was making fun of Batman, which is fine, but the Batman as buffoon shouldn't be the ideal character in the general consciousness. -
Neal Adams' work on Batman is some of the greatest stuff in comics.
-
DID YOU ALL SUBSCRIBE TO THE GOTHAM TIMES YET???
-
It's too bad I found out about all of this marketing game stuff weeks after it was completed...and that I live in BFE and would have had to drive nine hours to get a phone cake. But, whatever. Looks neat.
-
Nicholson. Meh. Love the laugh, though.
-
Tim Burton's Batman was a critical and box office success, and remains a classic to this day. Batman Begins was as well. Whether you like those movies or not, they are widely considered "great" movies. As for the TV show... that's a camp classic, but very few people on this earth would say it's better than Burton's first movie or Begins. At least you're original, I guess. Tasteless, but original.
-
Yeah it was from the 70s and of course this being the soulless 21st century, where culture is at it's lowest point of course they brought it back to be "ironic", because everything's ironic and an inside joke or whatever these days.
-
"I didn't bother seeing Batman Begins, so I can't comment on whether that's the case in that movie". Fucking hell. Why don't you just say "I'm a fucking dumb cunt because I decide to weigh in on something that I haven't even seen". Fucking Idiot.
-
The trailer is really fucking great! Ledger is fucking perfect, as the Joker!
-
Ahem. The reason that I don't, as you suggest, say "I'm a fucking dumb cunt because I decide to weigh in on something that I haven't even seen" is because I *didn't actually weigh in on the something that I haven't even seen.* This is, in fact, obvious from the bit you quote from my previous post. In case you didn't notice during your copying, pasting, and profanity-laced pontificating, I said essentially that since I had not seen Batman Begins, I couldn't comment on it. The actual point of my post was something different: that if you look at the corpus of batman material out there (of which, take notice, I'll happily admit I've only sampled a small amount), there is a lot that is silly, trite, and ridiculous, along with the stuff that is or could be serious, complex, and meaningful, and as such, any film adaptation that aims to be serious, complex, and/or meaningful will have to ignore/junk a lot of the batman material out there. I didn't think that I was being particularly controversial, but having now read a bit more of this thread (and others), and seeing the disturbing number of posts that describe their reactions to the marketing of this film in terms of either orgasm or defecation (sometimes both), I can see I'm going to have to pick my words a bit more carefully. Apologies, messi. I did not intend to hurt your (or batman's) feelings.
-
facts aren't determined by consensus.
no art will ever be objective.
so please stop trying to make films into religions. -
They'd probably have the Joker release that fatal grin-inducing gas by blasting it out of his chalk-white anus, eh?
-
Was not from the 70's but the '50's. The '70's were under the domain of Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams. Together they brought back the Dark Knight. Then Miller, with his "Dark Knight Returns" popularity, it got news coverage" was instrumental in getting Warner Bros. to produce a Batman movie.
Burton's first film was great, though I prefer Begins, but sadly "Returns" was pretty to look at but junky story.
I have high hopes for "The Dark Knight".
Oh the silly period was during the '50's when the Comics Approval Code was enforced. They lightened up Batman who in the beginning was dark. -

I Am Legend. He might have fared better than Will's dog.
-
No, I Am Bratwurst, you're wrong. Begins is a great movie. It's a great "Batman" movie. It is, in fact, bat-tacular. The Godfather is great, seeing as it's THE archetype example of a "gangster/drama" film. 12 Angry Men is a great "courtroom drama." Face/Off is a great waste of time. These things become more evident when you think about them and then talk them out. Logic rocks.
-
The Godfather is a brilliant movie. "Great" is a step down from brilliant. When did I compare it to the Godfather? I never made that comparison, so stop putting words in my mouth you fucking fuck.
-
It looks ok. I'm not sure about the joker though. The voice is good but the make up -not so sure.
-
its just like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back...i'm expecting to see a bunch of 12 year old fat kids with zits writing half the shit on here. Notice i only said half the shit..cause the other half i do believe to be people with some level of maturity who are actually interested in talking intelligently about these films...but i swear, some of the people, like "I am Batman"...i guarantee they are dying to see this movie and actually excited about it, but are just writing bullshit to try and piss people off. You know damn well he is probably at home jerking off to his hi-res images of heath ledger as the joker. Snoogins!
-
Does anyone think Adam West would have played a great non-campy Batman?

ace, you woof the good fight.

Return of the Joker, anyone?
-
Mask Of the Phantasm is THE definitive batman movie. I mean REALLY!...
-
uh huh, fo sho
-
what i meant to say was batman begins gets shitted (shat)? on compared to the masterpiece that is mask of the phantasm
-
I'm officially getting super fucking psyched about this. That newspaper thing was just too funny. I think THIS is the Joker we've been needing. Mark Hamill's Joker RULES but you can only go so far with a cartoon. THIS is surreal. can't freakin' wait.
-
I was really hoping it would be available at midnight! The "bootleg" video of the trailer really got me excited, it was so fantastic!
Oh well, I guess I can wait a few hours. -
Prologue!
-
What program do you need to play that PROLOGUE. I downloaded it and I can't play it 'cause I don't have the right software. Anyone?
-
shouldn't it play by now since its past midnight in the east coast?
-
It'll probably pull some 8:28AM bullshit from the numbers in the ad. That or wait until evening. Bastards.
-
That prologue posted earlier was great. I thought it would be a joke or something. Too bad the IMAX screen is so big...
-
Yes that's right you heard it here first folks!
GOTHAM will be the name of the 3rd Film in the new Nolan relaunch of the Batman film Franchise. -
screw it i will just go watch I am legend right now at the bridge for the midnight showing...
-
It has a big 8 and 28, so expect it at 8:28, Sunday. It's the same thing as Joker's bus, in the bank robbery scene having District 22 on the side. It's a nod to Two-Face and his vendetta against Harvey Dent.
-
Any thoughts on who'd be good as Harley? I propose Amy Lee from evanescence... check her out in the "everybody's fool" vid... has that twisted crazy sexy psycho look
-
Michelle Ryan from Bionic Woman.
-
i've been waiting for this
-
Oh I definetely expect the Joker to end up in Arkham at the end of this film. Personally, I found it quite arrogant of Burton to kill off two-thirds of the villains his films featured (Catwoman alone survived Burton's pen). Likewise, I was none-too-pleased that Shumaker killed Two-Face like he did. While it is, indeed, unfortunate that Harry Osborn died, I think that we can all agree that his death -- while contrary in many ways to comic canon -- was dealt with respectfully. And let's not forget that unlike Venom, his character was allowed to develop and mature over the course of not one or two but three entire films.
As for Raz'al Ghul, I, too, was disappointed that he died. And then I remembered that he is immortal in comic canon, and all became well.
My personal expectations for TDK, with regard to the way that it will deal with the Joker, are as follows: the Joker will kill someone dear to either Batman, Gordon, or Dent, in an effort to compell Batman to kill him. Batman will beat him to a bloody pulp, but will stop short of taking his life. Then the Joker will be thrown into Arkham, where the very best and brightest expert in abnormal psychology and criminal insanity, Dr. Harleen Quinby, will be assigned to rehabilitate him back to sanity.
My only fear is that, just like Burton's Joker, Burton's Catwoman, Schumacker's Riddler, and Shumacher's Two-Face, Nolan's Joker will succeed in his very first movie in learning Batman's true identity. That is such an old and used and -- to be honest -- shallow plot device, in my opinion. I truly hope that they decide against using it. -

Crap res though... -
I agree. It was the truest depiction of Batman on film yet. And, yes, of course Batman did a lot of crying. Big biceps are often filled not with muscles, but hardened tears. Batman is who he is because of the deep anguish concealed within him, not because of his finances. It's his pain that drives him to do what he does. He is a creature of darkness, angst and a rage so dense that there were only two ways to manifest it: destroy the world, or change it. He chose the latter. Had he chose the former, he would have become a menace to the world unlike any before him. In the end, what makes him so appealing as a character is that he is such an anti-hero: he is a terrorist who fights criminals, and a good-guy who dresses and acts like a villain.
-
I know that's very disappointing...
-
If he had chosen to filter his rage in a destructive way, he would have become the very person the Joker would have nightmares about. Gotham would not have been merely his ward, but his playground. Nobody would have been safe from an evil Batman. He would be capable of raping, killing, stealing, and never getting caught. And lest you think that he surely would have met his end at the hands of the Justice League, remember that they keep him around because they know that he might be the only person in existence who could take each and every one of them down. He is a threat to society. He is darkness embodied. He is rage manifested. But he is good. And that alone is separates him from villainy.
-
I got another: He is a man who became a demon who became a savior.
-
some of the shit he says is hilarious. The only reason I don't tell him to kill himself is because his opinions make for a good laugh. Retarded people sometimes do that.

Yeah learning of one's Identity is in most cases a killer in movies. I've rarely seen it done properly. The build up for Harry finding out who Spider-man was huge, but when the moment came it lacked almost everything.
Actually Lois & Clark seemed to do it perfect. The build up was great, and I think it went over 2 seasons before it was revealed to her. -
I would have to say that, no, I don't think he could play a dark or emo Batman. His voice is simply too campy and comicly serious.
-
WTF is that crap?
-
Going to destroy all of you.
-
Seven Corps will be born.
Seven Corps will shine their Light brightly.
Seven Corps will be at War. -
People like Supes and his stupid identity change is just ridiculous. But Batman is still some what plausible. Spider-man aswell. Of course their are always going to be, the "Hey he sounds the same" or "DUH, who else could afford all them toys?" but besides Superman most of them seem to be plausible.
-
How does he dress and act like a criminal? He dresses like a bat, sure, but criminal? um... no. Batman also does not act like a criminal. He doesn't kill. He uses only enough violence to get the job done. He uses brains and DETECTIVE skills as sharp as Sherlock Holmes (something no other hero in existence in Marvel or DC come close to). Batman actually has to study and FIND his foes, they don't just convienently show up on his doorstep like Spider-Man's.
The reason The Justice League keeps him around isn't coz he singlehandedly hands them their asses on a regular basis, but because he is so damn smart and resourceful that it'd be insane NOT to have him nearby. Sure he may not be Mr Personality, but if you put together the sum of the entire JLA members' IQs, it would still be less than Batman's.
-
glasses? c'mon.
Batman, Spider-Man, Ironman, etc all change their voice when parading around in their costumes. Batman talks in a raspy whisper. Spider-man is semi-muffled. Ironman has synthesizers that alter his voice pattern.
Masks work very well in real life to make positive IDs difficult...
As for Joker being a super deformed freak show.... where/how does he live and eat, looking like that, and not attract attention? Can't exactly walk into Starbucks with a scar like that and not draw some attention to oneself...
ah well, that's why this is FRICKIN MAKE BELIEVE! If Harrison Ford can make us believe a 60+ old fart can still pull off Indy maneuvers, then I'm more than willing to give Heath Ledger a chance. -
You're looking at Batman from a young pair of eyes, I suspect. When the modern Batman was introduced late last century, he was an astoundingly dark character compared to other superheroes. He broke people's bones just to get them to talk; he snuck into people's homes and spied on them without their knowledge; he forewent bright colors and dressed in dark ones; his war on crime was not one of justice, like others', but vengeance. He trusted nobody. He had no romantic interests. He rarely smiled. The very people he tried to protect were terrified of him, and that was by his own design.Nowadays, antiheroes are commonplace in the comics. But that's thanks to the likes of the original righteous bad-cops, such as Wolverine and Batman. They'll break you long, long before they read you your rights. So again, he's a villain who fights crime, a terrorist who fights criminals. As for the Justice League, what I said really is true. None of them trust him completely, and it's mutual. He even carries an arsenal of kryptonite with him, just in case.
-
His identity, if i'm correct, in Miller's Batman Y1, a scene where Gordon finds out easy that Bruce is Batman, as pointed in the above post, so that makes it realistic. Just like BB
-
Batman actually decided to reveal to Gordon who he actually was a few years ago at the end of the No Man's Land arc. Gordon turned his back, though, saying it wasn't necessary, and that he might already know his identity, thanks to his being a professional investigator and such. So perhaps he does know. It has been firmly established, though, that he knew Batgirl's identity the entire time his daughter wore tha cowl, prior to the Joker shooting her in the back and photographing himself raping her.
-
Oh yeah. That prologue has absolutely floored me. Nolan has payed close attention to what makes the joker compelling... His madness has a METHOD. I love how the clip showcases how he brilliantly flauts the 'rules' of the game. He's funny, strange, brutal, and smart.... and that's only the first three minutes of the fucking movie! Anybody can write 'funny one-liners' for the Joker. But it takes talent and brains to show how deadly intelligent he is... Color me motherfuckin impressed.
-
Actually, I've been reading batman comics for well over 25 years, and have read many of the comics before that.... And I wouldn't in a million years call Batman a villain. Cops spy on people all the time... it's called a stakeout. Also, the bat doesn't kill, rarely uses guns, and is far more cerebral than most other heroes. I would honestly say Batman is James Bond in tights without the Bond Girls. Even in the 80's with some of the darkest Batman comics to date, Batman still operated within his moral code.
Oh, and don't bring Wolverine into this. Wolverine is one of the most oversaturated unrefined characters in literary history. -
Batman is constantly dealing with a corrupt police department and has allied himself with the one policeman who isn't corrupt. He strictly abides by his "no killing" rule. And I'm obviously not talking about the Burton Batman, who likes to blow people up or set them on fire... a clear departure from the comic book Batman. Batman refuses even to kill his arch nemesis. If you think Batman is even remotely a villain, you don't know the character.
-
and the music never let up for at least the first 30 minutes...SHUT the fucking Hollywood overblown SCORE up for fucks sake. It's irritating and distracting and KILLS drama (and often action) COMPLETELY. It's also another reason why the film completely failed to evoke a true re-invention of Batman. It's SO SO fucking cliched and is the kind of music that is killing films...its so wall to wall in movies like Pirates that its almost unwatchable because the sound is so fucking unlistenable with wailing choirs and every corny as hell cliche/melodic theme being dragged out for the infinite time.
Go see 30 days of night and see how you can do this shit without getting an orchestra to bore the tits off everyone. -

he steals from himself in the comicsin the movie, he orders crap though shell companies.lucius was onto him and gave him the tumbler, when he saw the tumbler [which he built - and was scrapped by rutger hauer sight unseen] as the batmobile he knew, obviously.
-
I appreciate the way Nolan tries to make his version of Batman "realistic". But there are a few points where I think he misses the mark. For one, the Batman outfit still looks quite similar to the previous versions in the other movies. Maybe this was a concession he had to make with the studio execs, who probably wanted to keep it similar looking. I would have liked a more "realistic" Batman outfit modeled after a combination of SWAT, black ops, Ninja style armor. As for the Joker, I can accept that he wears white make-up and that it's not his natural complexion -- but then, why doesn't he just wear the white make-up evenly and not splattered about over his face? He's an evil clown, so why doesn't he do a cleaner, neater job with his make-up?
-
and more and more people realize that is is nowhere near the definitive version of Batman on screen. Although it looks from the trailer alone like Nolan corrected alot of those wrongs in Dark Knight, consider me very excited. And I almost never get excited about a sequel to a film I didn't like.
-
is this brohawk?[if you are, you understand, if not, don't bother]anyways re superman - if the janitor where you work won the lottery and was on newscasts, would you recognize him?clark kent is a nobody, noone cares about him..people look the other way at him, but superman? when people can see him, they are overwhelmed.
-
Then Bruce Wayne would have been caught and arrested within hours of the Batmobile chase. Only a complete retard of a cop or Waynetech exec wouldn't have been able to put two and two together. That's part of the problem with Begins, Nolan works under the guise of realism, and then throws it out whenever he needs an exciting scene.
-
he wears the makeup constantly, no bath, no shower, he sweats though, and bat fists leave scuffs.
-
go cry on superherohype.
-
Then we should see in later scenes in the movie where the Joker is redoing his make-up.

i would imagine we will.

...he used to be known as "moviemack". Prior to Batman Begins' release, he spent a truly hilarious amount of time and energy telling everyone how much it was going to suck. After it opened to almost universal talkbacker praise, he more or less vanished for a very long time, undoubtedly hanging his head in shame and humiliation.
I'm not sure what it was that got him banned in the end, but he apparently thinks enough time has gone by that people have forgotten him and his zany antics and decided to resurface big time.
I am Batman/moviemack is one of the last true, red-blooded haters of AICN talkback. The guy is either utterly incapable of liking anything or unwilling to admit what he likes. I seen him being asked numerous times to explain exactly what it is he likes as opposed to what he hates and he fails to meet this challenge every. single. time. Oh sure, he'll throw a title like The Godfather out there but only as an example of a "classic", and how fucking safe is that?
Not only is he a hater troll par excellence, he's also an obnoxious tool on a gargantuan scale. -
..not very bright when attempting to troll, though.either that or WB's marketing is getting rather aggressive.

I grew up on the Hal Jordan GL and then, for whatever reason, that version got totally f-d over by DC. They went retro in Kingdom Come and then Ethnic and then EMO in the continuity of the DC universe but alas, HAL got hit with the big F-k You stick and was made to go all crazy after losing loved ones and then they made him into the Spectre and I was just like, F-k you, DC. You lost this reader because I'm tired of you sending Hal Jordan to the land of sh-tty revisionist, new-age pseudo-writing.
Make me a believer and bring on Hal Jordan vs. Sinestro.
Oh and this new Viscious Joker scores very high on the ass-kickery scale of normally failed hope against hopes. -
on the left hand of the newspaper where it says "subscription info?" It's sunday too, so why no trailer?
-
Apparently the Sinestro Corp story line is pretty good, although I haven't gotten around to reading it. The Green Lantern: Rebirth, when they finally brought back Hal, was a damn good story and a fine way of bringing Hal to his rightful place.
Anyways, with all of these superhero movies based firmly on Earth I'm really hoping they go for an epic space story. Harken back to the old Flash Gordon serials like Star Wars. DC has such a rich space mythology its a shame if it never makes it to the big screen. -
I see someone else already mentioned. Sorry. But still, where's the official trailer, I mean the good quality one.
-
Then again it's probably just a number
-
I was all excited to wake up and find the trailer up.... Is it gonna be tonight?

Someone Should Make A Remix Of Prince's Batdance for Dark Knight
by laserpants
For verily, Tim Burton's flamboyantly gay goth camp take on Batman truly is the ne plus ultra of Batman related products and services.
NOT!
In all seriously, The Dark Knight looks like its going to be effing amazing. Thank god they FINALLY got the Batman and the Joker right. Nolan is the man, yo. -
Hollywood does it again. Another re-hash of a re-hash. Every generation doesn't need it's own dark crusader. Jeesh!
-
Worst casting decision ever. I mean really now. Burton's Batman was TERRIBLE. Thank god for Nolan's reboot.

-
I am a HUGE batman fan..and i say, if they can keep making better Batman films every so often..then bring it on! Whether Burtons was good or not...doesnt mean they should stop making them. Look at Batman and Robin..that sucked hard...would you really want that to have been the last Bat film?
-
why the next generation is so screwed up. No originality in the music and hollywood caters to their lost souls by force feeding them overhyped, unoriginal movies.
-

30 days of night? that movie blew ass? vampires who squwak like birds with big noses?? go get a fuckin life

They turned batman into a cross dresser. (Not what I really wanted to say.)
-
But not nearly as funny. I mean, yeah, as a camp object, as an object of ridicule, as a "so bad its good" grade Z unintentionally hilarious disaster, the Burton movies (and the multiple, even more awful sequels) are great. BUT, Nolan's take is actually an excellent film -- the kind of Batman movie I've been waiting to see since Miller dropped the genre-elevating Dark Knight. You could even make the argument that it way better then it needed to be; artfully done, smart, featuring excellent performances, AND really cool action. Not many movies achieve that. Superman Returns, like Burton's crap, on the other hand, was an utter disaster. It was overlong, it was clearly a reflection of the directors own raging gay emo messiah complex, and worst of all, it was BORING. I'd like to see someone step in and make a really great Superman movie, but I think thats unlikely given how badly Singer effed it up and basically ruined the character.
-
i think he is both, thanks for the link. what is he writing about now? why am i asking, let me have a look. i seem to recall the last time i checked on him he had randomly grabbed an image of a blonde off the net and claimed it was his girlfriend.
now, where is this trailer???? -
They can find something new to do with the character every so often so they might as well keep on putting films out there. The Adam West movie was a parody of superheroes meant to make fun of Batman, which is completely different from Burton's gothic comic book, which is different from Schumacker's campy return to the sixties, which in turn is different from Nolan's serious take on the character. All completely different takes on the same character. Not all of them are equal, and Schumaker's was easily the least original, but it just goes to show that you can do some truly different things with this character and still have it recognizably be Batman. This is one of the great aspects of Batman.
-
oh please go and read this to while away time whilst waiting for the trailer! there are many highlights in this "interview" with GL, notable ones being how the prequels are way more popular than SW OT, and who will look after SW when he is dead. supershadow = mega tool.
-
ease up on the rubber suits.
-
is Sunday, all day, So the trailer could be posted at 11:59 p.m. if they wanted and still be true to their word. I predict it will be uploaded at some primetime hour.
-
But I still don't feel he's the comic book Batman. He kills way too much, and he gets vindication for his parent's death, which is so very wrong.
-
was excellent for its time, but the years have not been kind to it, and Batman Begins kind of buried any claims that it had of being a decent or even the best Batman. still, it showed that there was cash in the comic book films, so without it being the colossal marketing machine that it was, there would have been no BB, no X Men, no Spider-Man. i find it impossible to watch Burton's effort these days, it just feels lame. sorry to all of those who still hold it dear, if it helps, yeah, i will admit, i was blown away by it at the time.
-
just add a dot com.
-
I'm betting the trailer won't be posted until 8:28 pm just so the WB can get everyone who wants to see it over the weekend into a "I am Legend" showtime.

Burton's Batman was great

"Which explains why the next generation is so screwed up. No originality in the music and hollywood caters to their lost souls by force feeding them overhyped, unoriginal movies."
Um, no. You're only proving that your education system is an EPIC FAIL. No one is "force feeding" anyone anything. (Although that does sound like a wickedly cool dark Jedi trick...) Consumer demand is fueled by, yep, consumer demand. That can entail either stuff that [a] people want, or stuff that [b] people are willing to put up with. The American consumer is on average wanting or willing to put up with spending money on generic, mediocre crap. This is not, repeat NOT, the fault of the entertainment industry -- or of any other industry, for that matter. If they have "lost souls", as you tritely put it, then it's not up to the biz to wag a finger in their faces and tell them what they **should** consume. That's elitism, no matter how low or how high your standards are. (It's also colossally bad business strategy.) It's easy to want to blame everything on big bad corporations, but that's the easy -- not to mention stupid -- way out. The American economy as it is right now is precisely 100.00% the fault of the American public. There is no overt or covert conspiracy to force upon people stuff they find intolerable. (Even if there were a conspiracy, it's up to the public to generate enough outrage to uncover the truth. There currently is no popular outrage for corporatism, which proves my point about 100% culpability.) Corporations have either the consent or the acquiescence of consumers (or both), and either one of those two is enough to make money off of them. Today's yutes are "messed up" because they're being raised by yesterday's yutes, who have similarly appalling standards which they're only passing on. -
The scene in the trailer where all the cops scatter looks like it was shot down near the Board of Trade, which was Wayne Towers in Batman Begins.
It's surreal to see a place I'd pass by on the way to study for law school in a Batman movie.
And yes, Ledger IS The Joker. -
Where's the damn trailer???????????????/
-
collectible. Enough of that ad.
-
Repeat until bored. Or until they post the trailer, whichever happens first.
-
But I doubt you ever see the Ventriliquist, save for a cameo.
-
Your counter argument proves my point. I won't leave it to assumption that you are part of the 'lost souls' I refered to, but instead a voice that felt necessary to come to their defence. Perhaps I was being to general in my last post but seriously, take a good hard look at what's being 'crapped' out of the music and movie business and tell me if it's original? That was, afterall, the point I was making.

-
does the idea of 8:28 come from?
-
I was drunk last night, and consequently failed in getting my thoughts across effectively. What I had been trying to say was that Batman is a unique character in comic book lore because he is fueled not by desires to right wrongs, but to prevent them and avenge their victims. Also, in comparison to other super heroes prior to the mid-1980's, Batman's costume in more similar to those of that period's villains than its heroes. Lastly, Batman is unique because he is willing to bend laws as a means to an end. For example, he does not acquire warrants before breaking into and entering another's abodes or implanting audio and video devices therein. Lastly, while he does employ a vast array of gadgets and martial arts when necessary, his foundational weapons-of-choice are fear and intimidation. In summary, while Batman is not a villain, he does, relatively speaking, exhibit unorthodox tactics that certain other heroes would consider beneath themselves.
-

OK Anthony Michael Hall, there was speculation he was going to appear in the film as "the Riddler" or the guy who becomes the Riddler "E. Nigma" or whatever his name is. And now he is playing a character named "Mike Engel" supposedly. Anyone know who exactly he is playing, and WHY THE HELL isn't he playing "The Riddler??!??" He seems he would fit the role perfectly.
-
Expect it to be online at that time.

My guess is, Chris Nolan didn't realize that you wanted Hall to play the Riddler so badly, hence he cast him in another role. If he had known how much it meant to you, I'm sure circumstances would be different.

you guys are sitting here bitching about the trailer, but didnt you just see the guy that posted the link to the boot legged 6 minutes of the movie? Am I the only one who saw that? It's fucking awesome. Anyway, It's still up: http://tinyurl.com/32299k .
-
I dunno if he could fit in this new "realistic" Batman. You know what fellas, brace yourself for TDK being the ultimate Batman movie and part 3 being sorta on the 'meh' side. Seems to be the way for most of these trilogies, that the third is usually a disappointment. Maybe not a total disaster, but a disappointment after the emotional peak of the part 2. I dunno though, we still haven't seen this one yet so, who knows...
-
STFU
-
Yeah I could see 3 becoming shit like most of the others have.
Two-Face as the main villian, is too comical. Can anyone imagine someone like that? I guess it can be done, but it's the one thing that can go wrong with it. And what about Robin? Think he'll show up? Riddler/Robin/2Face/Penguin can all ruin this more realistic version of Batman. But I'd still love to see what Nolan can come up with if they get their chance. -
Those TinyUrls never work! They never fucking start downloading.

The guy is rather infamous online. I only know of his connection to Star Wars. He's caused so much confusion by lying that he's got his own entry on the "Wookieepedia":
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Supershadow -
wtf is the matter with you?!
-
Apparently he was going to direct Episode 7, but kindly gave the duties to Ridley Scott. This site is joke - right?
-
Is that someone would actually spend time WRITING his goddamn biography! How weird is that?!

Obviously some star wars geek got worked up in a tornado of rage and jealousy over supershadows claim to know lucas that he wasted hours documenting his internet crimes - this trailer better be there in 8 minute.

-
Wow.. Nolan owned with that trailer. I mean.. The music, the ambiance, the perfomance, the Joker's voice, Bruce Wayne feeling powerless.. GOTHAM IS BURNING!!!!
-
So gay if it's not for someone in Central, mountain or pacific times yet.
-
The front page is the same except for a small, yellow "download now" link, which takes you to this page: http://www.atasteforthetheatrical.com/deathtrap/default.htm
-
not necessarily on THAT version of the Joker - but on the fact that Heath Ledger can definitely play just about anything...
-
And it is awesome!
-
Tastes good! HAHAHAHAHA!
-
I'm 5'7 and 150lbs, married to a smokin' hot latina and I'm father to two wonderful boys.
I just grew up reading comics, and reading you a-holes is a boredom buster for me. I can't help it if I am far more intelligent than 99% of you. -
Yeah you're lookin' pretty special right now...
-
else of Padme's line in the Phantom Menace trailer? Intentional, I think.
-

-
Everyone, please STOP so I can finish quickly! It's most resonable!
-
. . . .It was a good trailer and I’m looking forward to seeing it, but some of you think it’s the second coming of Christ. The way people were hooping and hollering about the bootleg or when they saw it at a ‘Legend’ screening, I was expecting something grand! Sorry, it just a standard trailer, and it was anti-climatic. I have a feeling that this movie is going to be so over hyped that the level of expectation is going to be a major let down.
-
IT WAS AWESOME!
-
So much better in Hi Def. Bruce holding his mask. Joker juggling a gun. A clown criminal next to him while he's using the missle launcher. I believe it's a funeral procession for the old commishoner, and Gordon becomes the new one. Seeing the Chase logo on top of that building. Really seeing the Joker in makeup. It's the details people.
-
Announcing that you're 5'7 doesn't make you sound like a tough guy. And having deep thought-provoking discussions about comic books does not make you seem intelligent.
-
You're response only proves it further. Please, please continue to wax on about your comic fetish and your intellectual superiority. This TB is in need of more humor!
-
Summer 2008 BELONGS to the Bat.
-
....that is all.
-
Haha! YES!!! Holee shit, looks like a home run! That trailer was friggin sweeet! Bring it on!!!
-
It was not all that great. Sort of clliche. I am even less sold on this version of Joker. I am all for new interpretations and love it when they work well but from what I have seen so far with Joker. Not so much.
Then again, I am the only one in this whole geek world who was bored to tears by Batman Begins. -
The origin of Batman in Batman Begins was pretty much fell in line with the comic books (except all that long, drawn out, training stuff with Ducard spewing cliche lines for an hour) so why be SO unfaithful to the comic version of Joker here? Wasn't Joker a guy who fell into a vat of playing card ink (thus the name JOKER) and his skin was dyed white ,went crazy from it and became JOKER? Cutting smiles in faces, putting on white make-up to "scare" people... it's all just too much. Besides if he wants to scare people, just hold a gun to their head. I just don't buy it all. Sorry.
-
We're all very upset that you're disappointed by it, no need to apologize.
-
Upside Down Johnson FTW.
As I've said in other TB's: This will be the best superhero film to date. -
That was pretty funny... I hate you...
-
Indiana Jones and the 5' 7" tough guy with 2 kids.
-
After the Joker is locked up... a nurse approaches him with the name Dr. H. Quinn. She works for the Mob. Gordon's daughter should be kidnapped and all that is left at the scene of the crime is a giant "?". Fade to black.
-
I am blown away by this.. Heath is going to steal this movie, no doubt. This movie is a bold move forward for the whole genre. 2008 is the summer of the bat. While "Begins" creaps up on you steadily for 2 hours, this one is going to smack you in the face and not stop.. This is what happens when studio suits get the fuck out of the way and let passionate creators do their thing...
-
heh. i thought the same thing. people are dying senator, we must do something quickly.
-
As if I could be intimidated, or even concerned, about you nerds is laughable.
Also, why attack me? I'm not the one calling batman a villain, or any of the other far more retarded comments in this forum. You guys attack me because I am right. Yup. You are all a bunch of insecure, overweight dumbasses that can't get laid, that have nothing to look forward to in life beyond Halo tournaments and WOW.
I feel sorry for you guys. I'm living a great life with a family, a good job, and have a future. You guys, well, you got nothing but cheetos stains on a white undershirt, chatting with Kevin Smith about how not to make movies.
Peace out! -
It's sad when Harry can get married and get laid, and all you poor porkers can't even get a woman (besides your own inbred mother) to even look at you. Sad.
Watch, next even Quint will get married ... you guys will still be "lovin' the hand lotion" -
I never said I was a tough guy... I merely commented that I'm not a fat fucker like most of you and "Comic Book Guy" from Simpsons.
I actually can control my eating habits, and not pig out because of insecurities. -
hey dude, are you brohawk?just askin'..and gee, that supershadow guy is sad.
