Producers Attempt To Defend McG As Director Of TERMINATOR SALVATION In EW Article!!

Published at:  Dec 05, 2007 9:58:00 AM CST

Merrick here...

The producers of TERMINATOR SALVATION gave a project update to Entertainment Weekly. Two interesting tidbits of news/non-news include:

Will Schwarzenegger be returning in any form?
KUBICEK: He may make a cameo.
ANDERSON: It still hasn't been determined, but if he does, it would be a very small cameo.

...and...

Terminator fans seem to be pretty supportive of the casting of Bale. They're a little more skeptical about McG.
ANDERSON: People can only speak to the body of work that they've seen of his [including Charlie's Angels and We Are Marshall]. Some people love it and some people don't. I think one of the things that we're certain of is, this is gonna be the next step in his career as a filmmaker. He's bringing all of his past experience and his amazing vision.
KUBICEK: McG is a huge Terminator fan. He is as excited as we are about bringing the franchise into the future. And again, Christian is such a committed, incredible actor. He doesn't choose the roles he takes lightly. So I think that's an endorsement of the script and certainly of McG. Somebody like Christian wouldn't have signed on for a project if he didn't feel he was in great hands with his director.

Ummm..."People can only speak to the body of work that they've seen of his".

Yeeeaaaahhhh. And...

OK. Why couldn't they have got on the Battlestar Galactica director's to do it. Sure, it's a huge movie, but the effects are great and it's the sort of raw, documentary style which would be good for this movie.

    by performingmonkey

For all we know they could have a fantastic script ready. Although what I don't get is what this movie is going to be about. It's not the end of the franchise, it's the beginning of a new set of movies, but where's the tension? We already know John survives through this and then is later killed by the Arnold Terminator seen in T3. We know that Catherine Brewster, John's wife (OK, so she's now called Catherine Connor - still a sucky name) was the one that sent that Terminator back to T3 time after it was re-programmed. We know that before that John sends Kyle Reese back in time to save his mother and become his father. You get the feeling WE SHOULDN'T BE SEEING THIS because the logic of the story is already hanging by the thinnest of threads! We were never meant to see John sending Reese back, it's a fucking great paradox that he sends his own father back. So all through Salvation John's going to be looking at Reese and thinking 'he's my father...' they'll share manly hugs and whatever and Reese will be like 'what was that for?' and John will be like 'well, it's just...you're like a father to me, is all...' 'but I'm 10 years younger than you or some shit' 'yeah...well...I'm sending you back AND YOU BETTER FUCK MY MOM OR ELSE I'LL NEVER EXIST!!!' Do you still want to see this movie? Maybe for the explosions and Cameron-influenced future vision.

McG has anything to do with Chuck still, I think he can pull it off as long as he has someone else direct the action scenes. Terminator is not a FAST action movie. One of the most classic scenes in the mall of T2 when they do the slow mo with the gun coming out of the thing of roses. What ever happened to Slow Mo? Slow Mo made action AWESOME! I hope there is some cool Slow Mo Rambo.

    A Terminator movie...

    by abin sur

...is NOT the place for on the job training, which is exactly what these producers are telling us. Whether it be Charlie's Angels, Fastlane, The OC...everything in his style is hyper-kinetic and reeks of ADHD, which is NOT what we need in a Terminator movie...Terminators are relentless, unstoppable, but NOT bad wire-fu and stop motion editing. At least Mostow understood that in T3. I guarantee we are going to hear set reports about clashes between Bale and McG.

Thanks god the internet wasn't around in the 50's & 60's (or even the 70's) when some of my favorite directors were making their first films or they might not have ever developed into the creative masterminds that they are.

People are really close-minded and limited these days. Everyone's a critic yet no one is qualified to criticize. For the record, I have no interest in another Terminator movie because I think the scenarios have gotten old and I want to see more original stories but I'll watch it with an open mind.

they better explain how in the scant 10 years or so between john connor at the end of T3 and john connor the soldier in the scenes of T2, humankind came out of the rubble and managed to develop freakin'Lazer guns and making them plentiful. The series kinda screwed itself with flash-forwarding to such high technology like it was the FAAAAAAAAR future when it's well within john's lifetime and there's no mention of it by his age in the last flick.

    by veritasses

for whatever his role is/was in bringing us Chuck. Love that series. However, if he wants to win over the fans and critics, I'd say he'd have to throw out all his previous 'visions' of what he perceives good movies to be. It's his 'previous body of work' that's giving everyone angst. The Terminator series represents classic action, not jazzed up, flashy, comical action. It's deep, fleshed out stories and characters not shallow, 'just make me look pretty' crap you'd find in a music video. It's caring deeply about the overall story arc and themes and not about first creating pretty vignettes and shoe-horning them in to make a 90 minute film. Terminator has substance. Well thought out, well made substance. If McG wants to make a Terminator movie that isn't going to get universally ridiculed, he's going to have to work so hard, blood will spurt out every pore of his body. He's better off proving himself with some other movie first. Get some respect as a director (and no, good box office results don't automatically mean good director).

Which was okay, although Nick Stahl was not John Connor by any stretch of the imagination. Christian Bale? I can see him as John Connor. That'll definitely work. Ok. No talk about who's playing the nemesis, Marcus? A marketing ploy to surprise us later or they have yet to decide which actor? I have a feeling that EW did ask but that part of the question was left out intentionally in the article...because they're going for the surprise. Well, not to worry, we got those reliable Hungarian paparzzis to find that out for us when they're on set. Hey, if it could happen to Tom Cruise "surprise" cameo for Ben Stiller's Thunder Tropic, it could happen for T4.

...someone has compromising pictures of Bale possibly copulating with some rare ostrich species or perhaps blowing a mountain lion. I just can't understand what he's thinking here (not that he's the greatest working actor but still T4 with McG??!?! really?!?!). Even if the script was stellar, it's still a somewhat exploitative take, story-wise (this series should have stopped at T2). I've been a fan of the Terminator series since '84 (not a big fan of T3 but that's another post); I think this "qualifies" me to put forth a critique. Sorry to the sensitive who don't think anyone should be able to say anything bad about anything (or just simply disagree with them). I love how you guys are like "You cannot dislike this movie unless you make a better movie!!" Yeah, nice one genius. Almost bumper sticker logic there. Hope you didn't set off the smoke alarms with that gem of an argument.I have no hope or faith but will be happy to stand corrected if this kicks ass. T3 was mostly worthless except for Claire Danes. I don't know...I can't say I have no desire to see the war ("it's what the fans want!! they want it!!! ALL fans want it!!!" well the "fans" wanted AvP too and look where that got us!) but it just seems we've now got an electric light parade around an already dead horse story-wise. I'd be happy to be wrong...but I doubt I will.

Not even the mighty Bale can save this travesty. The problem with time travel stories is that the more times you go back to the well to do an new story you run a risk of contradicting something you previously did. Also, I wonder how this will tie in with the new TV series? Oh, and somebody brought up a good point of how does a pretty much decimated world somehow develop advanced weaponry? McG, bless his little heart, sure Chuck's great but everything else he's done sucks and his style is so opposite the Cameron style that the two just don't go together, it's like Burton and Schumacher, the two style just don't match.

i just don't see how they are going to pull off a T4-like omar said- without tripping up on their own continuity. T2 was a worthy movie that gave the series the second curve of it's moebius strip of time. the 3rd one was like a needless tangent, causing more confusion than answers...and a fourth one would pretty much have to ba an alternate timeline to work- which would be pretty unforgivable.

T4 will be good if McG can steer the Terminator series back towards taking itself very, very, seriously - which is how T2 succeeded in my opinion - sure, there were some cool scenes, but the earnestness of Sarah Connor's narration and the conviction with which she wants to change the future, coupled with the emotion of scenes such as the playground burning really make the film. Without this, it will turn into any other random post-apocalyptic movie about killer robots...

"Doubya" is pretty close to what I'm talking about, but what I'm thinking would be the like reporters starting questions with "Doubya" instead of "Mr. President". I can't wait for the first President to start a speech by reading "Shit..." off a prompter like President Cammacho did.

I think the way to go is to drop the time-travel aspects almost completely: Make the story about something else - the first film could be almost like Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later - Connor leaves the bunker and gathers together some survivors as they run from the beginnings of Skynet's robot army and try and reach some place they can set up camp?

Or, do a Galactica rip-off and make it about the realisation that the Terminators now look human and they could be anyone, who can you trust etc...

But if the movie's central core is not going to be time travel, better to just pay it lip service and then leave it to one side.

i see what you mean, but i disagree.
that's like saying the alien movies were about ripley...and you see where that got us. it was fine to have ripley and sarah in the first two movies, you got to see how A) a human woman can overcome adversity, and B)how she can become a badass expert as a result...but beyond that, the next step would be self sacrifice, which ripley should have been left at in alien3, and sarah should have been able to do in T3, but she wanted no part of the movie, i heard.

With the TV series, this franchise has strayed far from the T1/T2 universe we know and love. It's almost like a different thing that shouldnt be called Terminator.
To bring people back, bring back the T2 nostalgia...the blue lighting, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick...familiar faces, sights for sore eyes. Thats not to say rehash...brand new story please...but bring the old universe back.

I liked T3, a lot, actually, and liked Nick Stahl as John Connor. And the ending was freaking PERFECT. That said, Christian Bale will probably be awesome. McG tho, man I dont know. I think one thing they need to do, story-wise, is destroy some of the Terminator continuity. Like have John's wife get killed, or something, or else all you're left with is "well it's all going to work out because it's already been preordained by the first 3 movies that John wins and nothing can change that", and you have no feeling of danger at all.

    McG ain't that bad

    by berbs

He's got a decent track record in regards the TV shows he's produced and his Charlie's Angels films did exactly what they were meant to. Visually, he's quite inventive (CA - Full Throttle looked like bubblegum on film. It was great) and in terms of making something watchable, none of his films have been boring. I'm quite looking forward to seeing what he'll do with the franchise. At least it'll be more interesting than T3, and anyway, in nobody's wildest dreams is T4 going to be some kind of groundbreaking masterwork. No fourth film in a series ever is. Gotta admit though, McG does sound like someone who should be directing hard-core gonzo porn.

use of guns in the series

    by zom-bot.com

when you get right to it- how pointless is gun use in the series- and yet, how heavy is it?
in T1 guns were useless against a termie, slowing him down a bit a best. In T2, even MORE useless against a liquid termie- and arnold's T should've known this, yet they keep plugging shotgun rounds into him (again, only slowing) and numerous handgun rounds. Same goes for T3. Eveytime we see arnold whip out his big symbolic gun, we all ooh and ahh but they don't do shit. In all three, it's only something huge and outside the normal means that destroys a termie...crushing-melting-electromagnetizing...so there must be some key to these 'laser guns' we see in the future. a sure way to fry the CPU's with a good shot?

    Technology after the war....

    by darth macchio

Not to defend this likely mediocre fourth Terminator film but the Resistance's use of advanced technology could easily be explained by raiding a Machines outpost and taking their weapons and equipment (they used the Machine's time displacement gear after all). Notice how in the beginning of T2 (the war scene), "800" series Terminators are fighting without any skin and also using hand-held rifles (as in, not built in like the silly "Terminatrix"). For example, it's my belief that the "Phased plasma-pulse laser in the 40watt range" from T1 is Machine tech, invented and developed by the Machines and then stolen and appropriated by the human resistence. Just a theory.

...and a lot of people I know and people who were film savvy that I knew from the video store I managed, loved it. Not just liked it, loved it! I also liked Harry's review and agreed with it. Some of you are too young, too jaded or too critical to see the good in it and that is fine. No one will say the Charlie's Angels movies were great films but they were giddy fun, adrenalin fueled movies aimed at teens. A lot of people liked the movies and the box office numbers verifies it and a lot of movie lovers will say the same thing. On the other hand, many people didn't. One thing I do know... McG will do a better job directing any movie over some internet critics who only spend their time bitching about things they could have done better rather than ACTUALLY doing anything. Let's wait and see if it is any good before we damn it. (I'm not a Michael Bay fan or a Transformers fan but I liked the Transformers movie.)

Unless the new movies is just in the future, no present or past. The moment they star traveling the thing unravels. Also, though the robots are a threat the little bit of the human population left would be more concerned with building infrastructure, electricity, water, communication, housing, not weaponry. People have lived under subjugation for centuries and in war torn regions too, what always remains the same is trying to live first then fight back. They have to figure out a stable source of non contaminated food and water in a radioactive environment. The weaponry would be built eventually but people have to be able to eat before thinking about building guns.

    T2 wrecked the mythos?

    by darth macchio

Perhaps, but one totally kick ass thing that was developed by T2 was simply that the technology behind the Terminators was never actually created or invented. A paradox yes but a very kewl one; send the T-800/Model 101 back in time...it gets destroyed but the cpu and arm survive. Take that 'found' technology and reverse-engineer it to develop what would eventually become the Machines. In other words, nobody/nothing created or invented the technology of the Machines. This paradox is even better than Conner meeting his 'many years younger' father in the future and sending him back in time to ensure his own procreation and existence. Where did the Machine technology come from since it did not originate in the mind of humankind?

    Re: Charlie’s Angels

    by veritasses

First of all, box office numbers don’t necessarily reflect the skill level of the director. A bad director can do well at the box office and a good director can bomb at the box office. The box office numbers aren’t part of the criteria we AICN geeks are going to look at when we evaluate the suitability of a director for a particular film. That’s why directors like say Roland Emmerich who made that hugely successful mess ID4, regularly get dissed here. The issue is whether or not people have faith, based on demonstrated talent/skill/style, that the director stands a good chance of making a good, faithful movie worthy of the franchise. Charlie’s Angels might’ve done well numbers wise and it might even be considered to have been a ‘good, fun, popcorn movie’ but it’s hardly a movie that demonstrates substance, depth, an understanding of human or social themes, strong story structures, character and relationships etc or even good, memorable action sequences. At best, CA was light fun. It’s also important to understand that Terminator is one of those movie properties that will appear on any geeks “Sacred” list along with Aliens, Star Wars, LOTR etc. It’s not the type of movie that geeks who post on AICN want just any director who’s had some success at the box office directing. It takes years and years (or maybe never) before the next Terminator movie might get made. If that’s the case and if they’re going to bother investing huge sums of $$ to make the film, we’d want someone who stands a much better chance of making a great movie then rolling the dice with someone who has yet to prove himself capable of making a solid, quality film. This is just common sense in any business. You’re not going to give a high profile, high budget project to a guy who has a mediocre resume and a mediocre portfolio. You’re going to give it to the guy who’s proven himself. Of course that doesn’t guarantee success, but it’s a much safer bet for all that money. If McG were directing the next Anaconda Dungeons and Dragons, I don’t think there’d be this big fuss.

He has done so well, I hope he doesn't flush it away with this choice. These producers are dickheads, and insult our collective intelligence by saying things like: "Somebody like Christian wouldn't have signed on for a project if he didn't feel he was in great hands with his director'," and "People can only speak to the body of work that they've seen of his". I'm not saying there's no chance this movie could kick unholy ass. I'm just saying their tone in the interview is patronizing, and their points don't sufficiently acknowledge my concerns. Now they'll have to do another interview, defending this interview, and so on, like an insane Mr. Show sketch.

Still suprised McG and Bale signed up though. I guess you can put out more cash when you don't have to feed the bottomless hole of greed that is Arnie.
Abin Sur: Yeah, because all that Wire-Fu in We Are Marshall really fucked that film up. It was like when the studio fucked up and hired Scorsese to do Last Temptation. Not a single fuck or pen to the neck. Idiots. I agree with some of the other doofus's here. Laser guns? Camerons Albert Pyun Future sort of set a precedent for a shitty looking cheesy future. Maybe they will just ignore continuity. You know what though? I don't really like McG for this...Even though I think hes a good director. Sort of like when they brought Jeunet or Fincher onto Aliens. Its just polishing a turd. Mostow and his team, even the writers, did a good job on T3...But the fucking franchise/concept is dead. Theres just no steam in it. Me: Mmm, ok. So, about this new Terminator film...
I hope the new film kicks ass. I'd love to see Bale and his soldiers blast the shit out of those motherfucking cyborgs. I want the scenes to feel as real and bloody and pulse-pounding as Reese's memory of the red-eyed Terminator break in. I want the sadness of what's been lost, the desperation and tears of the survivors, I want the screams of people being roasted alive in giant machine-driven ovens, and, most of all, I want to see sullen but steely eyed Bale bring humanity back from the edge.
    Make it happen, Joseph.

Every actor makes an occasional bad movie...

    by executor

...despite all good intentions. It happens. Bale has been amazing in everything he's been in for a while, and he'll probably be fantastic in this. But that doesn't mean a shitty script or a shitty directing job can't bring it down. There's not one actor out there who hasn't made a bad movie. Sometimes even with very good directors.

You wrote, "Sad but true, a great actor do[es] not a good movie make." I agree. Bale thrown into a clusterfuck of ideas won't produce a good film.
The key to directing a good new Terminator film, in my opinion, is focusing on mood and character instead of spectacle. I'm not sure McG is necessarily the man to do this, but I remain hopeful until he proves me wrong. We'll see.

It had drama along with the comedy, the stories were tight, and the action scenes were excellent. McG currently produces Supernatural which has a dark edge that might translate to T4. I'm not gonna totally write him off just yet...even though Charlie's Angels 2 sucked ass.

Thanks for the input, I'll check it out this weekend. As far as Charlies Angels defenders go, I'll admit, if you go into it with the lowest possible expectations possible, then there is some eye candy fun to be had. by messi

That movie shocked the shit out of me. When the gun kata starts I was like "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT! HOLY FUCK! THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME." Bale plays one of the baddest motherfuckers ever in film history. he gets touched once during a sparring session, the rest he destroys. Good film too, about misanthropy and human nature, but Bale destroying stuff is the movie for me. He also has the highest direct on screen bodycount with 118 victims to his guns of brutallity.

    On Equilibrium......

    by han cholo

Doc_Strange here. WTF is wrong with the logins? Anyway, as far as Equilibrium is concerned, that had to be Bale's best performance in my opinion. Someone mentioned above how he converys emotion without actually emoting, that, to me, is a measure of a good actor. The scene where he finds that secret room and just has to go and touch everything and picks up the paperweight, only to drop it when he hears Beethoven on the record player and breaks down is the best scene I have seen Bale do.

Sure it was made to piggyback on the success of the Matrix because of the look and feel of it but I thought that it succeeded so much more on different levels such as the fact that the fights were all done practically and based on a real theory, the acting was top-notch, and the story was coherent and realistic and you really identified with Bale's guilt and conscience after killing his best friend and seeing the woman he wrongly put in jail being burned to death as punishment for feeling. Yep, if you haven't seen this movie go rent or buy it now. Hell, even download it because after seeing it, you'll want to buy it.

    As far as Terminator goes....

    by han cholo

Well I can't say I respect a guy named McG. I don't think there's anything this guy could do to be credible at this point. I mean Charlie's Angels was just crap, so much I wouldn't even bother going near it. I then read he was going back to the drawing board to hone his technique after CA2 bombed at the box office and essentially made him a joke. Then We Are Marshall came out and no one saw it because it resembled all the feel good sports films that had come out the last 10 years. It could have been called Remember the Titans or Gridiron Gang, or even Coach Carter and no one would have known the difference. Now you tell me, is that the criteria any competent producer would use to determine whether a director is good enough to direct one of the biggest movie franchises? Hell, I would be looking all over for McTiernan at this point.

As for Bale being in it, maybe the script is good and just having Bale in your movie elevates it automatically. I think that if the movie sucks balls then at least he would have given it his all and put in a good performance. I think at this point the movie will either suck bad or be great but then again it's looking like it just might be mediocre but with a great lead. I must say T3 left a bd taste in my mouth and could have been great if they had put some actual substance into it and not made it a self-parody but yeah the ending had some balls but that was about it.

People keep saying that want Schwarzenegger in the film but really how would they go about making him look 10-15 years younger? He looks like an old bag now and has let himself go recently. Maybe some CG-youngifying? It would be nice but I don't see how they would do it without it falling into that self-parody thing again. I think at the very least if the producers want the fans to get behind the project 100%, they need to get a director with some credibility in the geek community cause this just reeks of that piece of shit Transformers all over again.

  • I could just imagine that stone cold look he did so well in Equilibrium translating over to Terminator, being a badass when he has to be and then seeing a more human side to him, maybe lamenting having to be a leader to a seemingly futile resistance. Now that I think about it, this could really be a good film if the script is tight and McG suddenly learns that wire-fu and T&A do not a good movie make. He really needs to study the Cameron's direction and the cinematography of T1 & T2, not to mention bringing back Brad Fiedel to do the score. T3's score sucked ass and didn't have that powerful, metallic oomph to it like T2, plus the theme wasn't used until the final credits and was done half-ass in my opinion.

If this thing's gonna be a trilogy I want to see how Connor becomes a leader, I want to see the slave camps where the machines put the remaining humans and how they escape and form the resistance. They need to show in detail how terminators are made up. Do they use existing human templates like bodybuilders? That would be a good place to put the Arnold cameo. They also need to show where the advances in technology came from. Then the filmmakers have to essentially make the film gritty, like those first few minutes of T2 and the flashbacks from T1. Only then will it be anything like the way Cameron intended, at least in my mind.

There is no slow-mo, there are no machines, there is no "fake reality", it has nothing to do with computers or bending the rules of the world. It's more like 1984, and it's about people controlling people through emotional retardation. Also, the fighting is based off a logical system of moves that come from percentage and predictability. It's actually not like the Matrix at all.

Guys if your girlfriend, wife, etc wants to watch a chick flick here is what to get - Return to Me. David Duchovny and Minnie Driver. Duchovny did a great job, and I wasn't even thinking Mulder everytime I saw him. The movie is predictable, but still funny and sad at the same time. The supporting cast is great - Bonnie Hunt, Jim Belushi, David Allen Grier, Robert Loggia, Carroll O'Connor in one of his last performances. Trust me, the old guys make this movie. Just a recommendation. If you need to make a compromise on date movie night, pick this one and you'll do allright.

This franchise, or more importantly, the future of this franchise seems to be dependant on the correct name being attached. Not a script, appropriate budget or nice concept art. No, none of that, but a fucking name. No Arnie boo, boo. Bale, oh yes this will rock, this will own, this will [insert lame phrase]. McG, dude get a real name (as posted by MclovinCameronAss01, cause that's a cool name), this movie now sucks. I bet if the next piece of casting, or the name of the DP gets announced and it's a name you "like" this movie will rock again!! Consider this; Bale does consider the weight of a script over a pay check, so he must see something. McG's movies have gotten better, that's Charlie's Angels Vs. We are marshall and then consider the fact they want to do a 3 film arc, that's got to be good.

    3. Your star is Christian Bale, which has absolutely NOTHING to do with T2, and despite a loyal following on here (and who I respect), is not exactly super starpower out there.
    4. The title credits will probably feature "Directed by McG." Please sir, use your real name.
Imagine the advertisers trying to produce posters and cut trailers for this thing! I'm sure the trailer will be very pretty and full of action/intensity, but how will you stop people from seeing it as a joke with the above givens?
I hope the producers know what they are doing.

Bale as Connor = genius casting!

    by darthbakpao

Say what you want, but who would have thought of Bale as the badass John Connor? He's born to play Connor!

    EQUILIBRIUM

    by lecter1914

I thought it was okay. I admit to being blown away by the action, especially the double shotgun to the motorcycle cops. Actually made me drop my jaw the firs ttiem I saw it. But I dont know, it felt like towards the end it began to really start to fizzle and the ending was just kind of blah to me and I was kinda pissed of about the anti-battle of Bale vs. Diggs. And I felt like the final villain was wholey underwhelming. But thats just the action side. The drama and story was pretty compelling, but the action began to fizzle as it went on. Came out with a bang and went out with a bit of a whimper to me. Also, didnt the film have another title in the beginning but they changed it to simplify it or something like that?

I believe the original title of Equilibrium

    by grammaton cleric binks

was called Cubic. I think it may have even been released under that title in Europe. I probably never would have rented it if it was called Cubic. That just sounds lame. Oh, and Lecter 1914, thanks for a real honest critique, not this movie sucks I'm right you're wrong, blah blah, like so many comments we see.

"instead of another guy is so she could "infiltrate" better. Think about it. If you're a 23 year old guy, wouldn't you WANT to get up close and personal with a hot blonde chick?"

Yeah, but not one that just runs at you with her claw-hand glowing blue the second she sets eyes on you. She did no 'infiltrating' whatsoever in that movie. She might as well have been a Terminatruck for all the feminine subtlety she had.

Since Sarah Connor Chronicles must be

    by grammaton cleric binks

set between T1 and T2 I wonder what the deal is with the commercials, since it appears we are going to see Terminators in this series. I mean it doesn't say it in T2, but it appears that Sarah hasn't seen another Terminator since T1, and John has never seen one. The series could work, but I'm not holding my breath. I just hate it when sequels, side projects etc. screw with continuity, Highlander being the prime example. I loved the first movie, and could never convince myself to even like any of the other shows/movies.

    The TV show lacks testosterone

    by gibsonusa

Yes, Cameron originally intended The Terminator to be an average looking guy, but the fact is they went with Arnold and thats the end of that...it became a pure MAN show like Predator. The whole Arnold on the bike versus Robert Patrick in the truck in T2 (added to Brad Fiedel's score) is just testosterone overload...its just a MAN movie, 80s style.
Look at this TV show...a cute skinny teenage-looking girl Terminator trying to look all tough...its like Terminator: Babysitters Club edition...the manliness is gone...sounds silly, but its true.

    TV series continuity

    by jacknf

    @Grammaton Cleric Binks
If you hate what they did with Highlander, you're definitely gonna hate what they're doing with the terminator TV series.

Sarah connor Chroncles is set AFTER T2, completely ignores T3, and will have NO continuity whatsoever with any films in the franchise other than 1 and 2. It's actually similar to how they justified Highlander and Buffy/Angel: take film as starting point (Highlander 1 / T1 & T2 / BtVS), establish in the pilot any differences between TV series continuity and movie continuity (re Highlander, they reference Conner's fight with the Kurgan, but it's made out to be jsut another battle between immortals and not really the final fight of The Gathering), and the just go at it ignoring anything else established in other media.

    Sarah Connor Chronicles

    by memnoch71

Is definitely set after T2, but before T3, but if that's the case then how does John not know for certain that they had not stopped Judgement Day, oh never mind.....

BTW isn't that Summer Glau as the new Terminator\Terminatrix in the series? The only other thing I remember her in was Firefly & Serenity.

So is Bale in T4, T5 and T6, or just T4. Cuz being in 2 francises might not give him a whole lot of time to do other things, and I like those other things. I'm going to go drink a flaming dr. pepper now.

    Oh, terminator

    by samurai sark

I don't remember who mentioned the dog from T2 not recognizing Arnold, but the reason the dog didn't suspect anything is because the T-800 (arnold) has organic skin, while the previous models were wrapped in rubber, which made them easy for the dogs to spot.

Oh crap JackNF you just ruined what

    by grammaton cleric binks

little hope I had for the series. I thought the John Connor character looked a little too old. I'm just like Annie Wilkes from Misery when it comes to continuity. If you painted yourself in a corner you better have a really good explanation. No cheating.
