Will The Original KITT Make An Appearance In NBC's New KNIGHT RIDER Television Movie/Relaunch/Pilot Thing??
Merrick here...
The ODI dropped me a line about a recent excursion to the set of NBC's new KNIGHT RIDER television project.
LAST WEEK we posted that the new KITT car had been revealed; many wondered if the original (Trans Am) iteration of the car might make an appearance.
I can tell you that The Hoff's Michael Knight does appear in the particular draft I read...but the original KITT does not.
However, The ODI grabbed some images during the set visit which suggest that...perhaps...the Knight Industries Two Thousand may not be forgotten.

of Knight Rider 2000? Or Team Knight Rider? I never watched the TK series, but caught the KR200 tele-movie. It was OK. The new KITT (red) was OK. The boat part was a little hoaky.

...I heard is Bernie Mac. Also, the main new feature in the KITT 3 thousand series is: More cup holders. You heard it here first. And the bad guys? Cars that have gone rogue, used to work for us, but can now think for themselves. This new generation of car actually look like humans - but when they belch you can smell exhaust fumes. Dead giveaway.

Not a T Top Trans-AM or for that matter look anything like the original KITT and there are enough replicas out there (see Hoff's first season of America's got Talent) that they could have easily used one of those. This is crap.

The trans am in the blog posting is an about a '89. The original was an '82. Knight Rider 2000 should have been black for one thing and all that useless crap they put in it.....yuck. BTW after Knight Rider 2000 the car was repainted and used as a cop car in one of those Power Rangers movies and then auctioned off on Ebay.
Movie studios have this thing with letting things rot apart on back lots for what seems like forever and never getting the full value out of anything.
This new Mustang will rot apart on a back lot for years too....and no one will care.

Seriously. That's how much faith I have that this show will be canceled before the end of the 1st season. The 1st episode will attract for nostalgic reasons but after that a sharp decline. Just like the bionic woman.

The funny thing is....there is an actual fanbase for this. The problem is NBS isn't listening or never cared to ask. There are several differnt business that make aftermarket parts to turn your trans am / firebird into a Knight Rider replica. There is a huge underground fan base and money is being spent to make K.I.T.T. replicas.
True fans have hope that Glen Larson will get it right because this thing is going to be a disaster. The Hoff should aviod this like the plague and go kiss and make up with Larson.
I will say this if either Larson or NBC cared about either the movie or series. They ask die hard fans that are the only people that are really going to watch it anyway...... -
This has to be one of the dumbest shows in the history of TV. I cannot believe that any right minded exec would even give a second of time thinking about this. Personally, I am betting that "BJ and the Bear" or "Supertrain" are not far behind. Pathetic.

The concept of Knight Rider is cool. The problem is someone that worked at the networks decided that the "car" was the star of the show and they should give it more and more stuff to do.
Knight Rider would have been a great show if it rather than focused on the car it focused on an actual investigation. The car was cool enough in the first episode to never do anything more than what it was capable that day. No stupid upgrades every episode and a rebuild every season.
Want Knight Rider to be a hit..make it "realistic" make it about a smart detective with a cool car that helps him solve crimes. Use the car more like a CSI tech lab, you know finger print analysis, voice analysis. Make it more in our world and less in fantasy land and then the franchise won't seem so silly. I should be a writer for a television show....LOL -

The ORIGINAL was an /82, but he was updated after about three seasons. In an episode, two guys are looking for a car to steal, one of them wants to steal KITT, but the other talks him out of it, saying the car is too old. KITT gets some sort of self-esteem issue, and begs to have a facelift. Next thing you know, an 85 or 86 model was being used for KITT.

Some one pointed it out; this idea of an artifical intelligent car was great--back when technology was still new and bloom. But now?! Technology is so advanced and has so much possibilities that this idea of a new Knight Rider seems so lame and aimed for an nostalgiac audience-NBC hope that its a huge audience. But after the Bay TRANSFORMERS, we all knew what a car can REALLY do. Plus the last few seasons of Knight Rider was just plain stupid that I stopped watching as soon as I saw KITT as a convertible or surfing; which ever came first. This whole project seems stupid at this point in time. Unless KITT is an Autobot, then I'm in! Hey, KARR can be a Decepticon then we've got the BEST SHOW EVER IN HUMAN HISTORY!!!!!!! KNIGHT RIDER, directed by Bay! Want a concept!
