JoBlo.com Premieres A Great New PINEAPPLE EXPRESS Clip! And Dewey Cox And The Hard Walkers Hit The Road!

Published at:  Dec 04, 2007 6:53:54 AM CST

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

This is a great exclusive for the JoBlo.com guys, and for my money, it’s the best thing I’ve seen online today. It’s a four-minute scene from the new David Gordon Green film that won’t be in theaters until late summer 2008.

Everyone I know who has seen PINEAPPLE EXPRESS at its early test screenings has absolutely flipped for the film. When I visited the set, I got the feeling that this one might turn out to be of the very best of the recent run of exceptional films from Judd Apatow’s company. This clip convinces me further that we’re in for a real treat next year:

In the meantime, Apatow’s got WALK HARD coming out in December, and one of the things that interests me most about the film is just how seriously they’re taking the music. I was talking to Devin Faraci the other night, and he was talking about how much he enjoys the music in the film, and how it’s not played as a joke. That was what made Spinal Tap work as a film... they could actually play. So Dewey Cox (John C. Reilly) is going to do a quick little mini-tour in character with his band, and you can actually go see them play a gig.

I’m thinking of seeing them Friday night in Austin at Stubbs. Eat some barbecue, see John C. Reilly live... sounds pretty fucking great to me.

Here’s the full press release that was sent out yesterday:

(Culver City, December 3, 2007) -- John C. Reilly, the star of the upcoming Judd Apatow produced comedy Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, will tour the country next month in character as his alter ego Dewey Cox, the mythic rock & roll icon whose music influenced a nation. Reilly will perform live as Dewey Cox with his band, The Hard Walkers, the scorching rock ensemble, for the year's most anticipated concert series, the "Cox Across America Tour"

Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers will hit the road for a select seven city run of rare live performances to support the December 21 opening of the comedy, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story."

Cox, the legendary showman and his mind-blowing band will launch their historic concert tour tonight at the world famous The Roxy of the Sunset Strip. Next up, the band will continue to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Wednesday, December 5 with subsequent shows in Chicago, Austin, Nashville, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York's fabled Knitting Factory (see full itinerary following).

During the "Cox Across America Tour," Dewey Cox & The Hard Walkers will perform classic tracks from "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," the soundtrack album from the film of the same name. The definitive career-spanning collection of Dewey Cox hits, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" (Columbia Records) will be in stores and online on Tuesday, December 4.

Each of Dewey's concerts will be preceded by special screenings of "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story." Tickets to the events will be made available through local radio promotions in each of the markets where Dewey and his band are performing. Tickets to these extraordinary Dewey Cox events are being offered to members of the Dewey Cox Fan Club (For information on all the benefits of Dewey's fan club, please visit the official site.)

"I have loved Cox from the beginning and I will be at every show
worshipping Cox from the foot of the stage." - John C. Reilly

"Not since Duran Duran toured America in 1984 have people been so
excited about a rock tour." - producer Judd Apatow

"You're welcome, America." - Dewey Cox

America loves Cox! In Columbia Pictures' new comedy "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story," John C. Reilly stars as larger-than-life musician and songwriter Dewey Cox. Behind the music is the up-and-down-and-up-again story of a legend whose songs would change a nation. On his rock 'n' roll spiral, Cox sleeps with 411 women, marries three times, has 22 kids and 14 stepkids, stars in his own '70s TV variety show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks - every drug known to man... but despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman - longtime backup singer Darlene (Jenna Fischer).

Columbia Pictures presents in association with Relativity Media a Nominated Films production, "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story." The film stars John C. Reilly, Jenna Fischer, Tim Meadows, and Kristen Wiig. Directed by Jake Kasdan. Produced by Judd Apatow, Jake Kasdan, and Clayton Townsend. Written by Judd Apatow & Jake Kasdan. Executive Producer is Lew Morton. Director of Photography is Uta Briesewitz. Production Designer is Jefferson D. Sage. Editors are Tara Timpone and Steve Welch. Costume Designer is Debra McGuire. Music is by Michael Andrews. Music Supervision by Manish Raval and Tom Wolfe.

"Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story" has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America for Sexual Content, Graphic Nudity, Drug Use and Language.

I've never seen him do comedy before (yes, I know he HAS done it). That bit about his favorite architect had me in stitches - so bizarre.

Its hard to showcase a comedy in a few minutes

    by bobo_vision

If you expect a lot of laughs in a short clip or trailer, it means it will be the type of movie with gags, gaffs, and punchlines, but sometimes the best humour plays out in a slower pace. I didn't think the 'Superbad' or 'Knocked Up' trailers were that good, but the movies were hilarious, as is the case with most Apatow movies. The word of mouth seems promising. But even in that clip, "smells like God's vagina" was hilarious.

    Seen Pineapple Express...

    by thedrizzle

3 times so far, and Walk Hard once. I can guarantee that if you liked Knocked Up and Superbad then you will also totally enjoy both these movies. PE is Harold and Kumar meets Hot Fuzz with an Apatow senese of humor. Walk Hard, is more along the lines of Anchorman or Talledega Nights BUT written by Apatow instead of just producing and in my opinion funnier than the two put together.

Never knew John C. Reilly was ever funny

    by skimn

until Ricky Bobby, and saw the outakes and adlibbing on the DVD (Although his role in Boogie Nights is deadpan comic genius), so it's nice to see him get a showcase in Walk Hard. It just seems to slim a premise to hang a feature length movie. Like those awful SNL flicks...Coneheads, The Ladies Man, Superstar, Roxbury...etc. I think I'll stick with the Steve Brule segments on Tim and Eric. This past Sunday's fight demonstration was hilarious.

    saw PINEAPPLE EXPRESS in Burbank

    by justanothermoviefan

Saw PE in Burbank a few months ago, and it was hilarious. There was a subplot with Rogen's girlfriend that needs some fixing (or just cut the damn thing out) but Franco is the star of the show. The action scenes are funny and exciting. It accomplishes what Hot Fuzz failed to do (even though I sorta liked Hot Fuzz), which is be funny and have action, rather than action for the sake of action. There was also an intro that will most likely be cut from the film, where the government is testing the effects of weed on a solider, who tells his boss to fuck off...and then they kill him. It's funny, but the film just takes a while to start.

    by applescruff

I saw this movie a few times and love it dearly. I even posted a review on this site a few months back. Releasing this clip was a bad move on all counts. The fucking movie doesn't come out till August and already we've got 4 minutes of footage?!?!?!?!? I'll say it like I've said it before, they should move up the release date and get this out sooner. Come to think of it, this should switch places with "Sarah Marshall". I saw that recently and for the record, "Pineapple" is FAR superior. Its also way better than "Walk Hard".

    WEIRD CLIP

    by thedohdoh

As much as I dig weed and weed movies, that scene doesn't click at all. I guess kids will begin making crucifix joints (can't believe Weeds didn't break that first!), but other than that, what's the point? The intro of the legendary Pineapple Express should be legendary, not casual and boring.

In fact the Clip was TOO LONG

    by steve trevor

Disagree with you Bobo_Vision. Clips of "Knocked Up" and "Superbad" WERE funnier. And you can make a good clip with laughs in three minutes. Just look at all of the Office and Family Guy clips on YouTube that run less than 30 seconds. Maybe this clip was actually TOO LONG. Surely the film will be good - hopefully - but this clip did not work.

  • Bitch bitch bitch, moan moan moan. These fucking movies are tomorrows classics. Do you think Caddyshack came out, and people thought "this will be a fucking classic in about 10 years"? Of course not you stupid fucking idiots. EVERY SINGLE Apatow/Rogen/WILL FERRELL movie put out is golden.

clip itself was a little boring, but still looks promising

    by freakemovie

I like the action/comedy angle, and James Franco looks like he'll be the real breakout from this...he's been stuck for a while starring in small movies that flop, once people realize he can do comedy that should open some things up for him.
